Hey guys! I want to do a liquid diet for a couple of days and I want to do it successfully! I have been eating garbage (figuratively) and I want to just be very easy on my body for a couple of days. Does anyone have any advice or favorite cleanses?

Why do you want to do a liquid diet? Why do you feel liquids will be "easier" for your body than simply eating a variety of foods that meet your nutritional needs?12

These don't go together.
You're going to get advice, but it won't be what you want to hear.22 -
That's entirely not necessary. Just start reading the getting started posts and go from there.4

Sorry, but not sorry, there's no right way to do a wrong thing, and what you're proposing, is a wrong thing.
If you want to stop eating garbage, just stop eating garbage. If you feel adventurous, investigate into why you eat garbage in the first place.21 -
Your body doesn’t need a cleanse, your kidneys do that (hopefully). I know people always talk about cleanses but that’s just a fad thing. And that won’t be easy on your body, just eat healthier that’s the best for your body. :-)9

I have sensitive skin so I cleanse with a baby formula liquid soap. It is very easy on my body.19

I'm curious about what this 'garbage' OP has been eating is made up of. I probably eat what some would consider garbage every day.4 -
Advice: don't do it.
Don't like the foods you're eating? Change them. Drop the idea of "junk" or "good/bad", food is just food. Only you can decide whether a particular food item is worth it in your overall day or not. Treats can be planned for. Eating pizza or take-out can be planned for. Focus on the long game of learning how to eat well so you can be successful the first time.11 -

I agree, it bugs me when people label foods as "good" or "bad". I know someone who says...I was so "bad" today I ate a slice of pizza...oh brother!8 -

What is worse is if they are intentionally baiting people in hopes of being praised for their restraint for only eating a slice. And even worse when someone falls for it and actually praises them.
It is good for the diet though. I find the exchange so nauseating I don't want to eat for at least an hour.

Me too I was hoping we could lure it out of her3 -

I know...I was talking to someone recently who was saying that all they had was a salad while the rest of the family ate pasta and I said why not have pasta too just eat in moderation. To me once you start denying yourself, it always backfires at some point.7 -
You'll drop some water weight and be able to *kitten* through the eye of a needle. But it won't cleanse anything. Instead of focusing on the negative (like I don't want to eat "garbage" - thankfully not literal), focus on what you do want. Do you want to increase your servings of fruits and veggies. Make a commitment to have at least one serving with every meal and have fruit for snacks along with a slice of cheese. Personally, I find exercising regularly tends to naturally gravitate me towards a more balanced diet. I still fit in some treats though. No need to label items as good or bad (garbage), it is the overall diet that is either balanced or not.15

*kitten* through the eye of a needle is the best thing I've read here in a while Oh, and the rest of your post was good too!12 -
The only thing it will do is make you drop 'poop' weight and 'water' weight, barely any actual 'fat' weight. And you'll most likely be so ravenous after you finish your fast, that you'll quickly undo any deficit you caused. It's really pointless.
The best way to lose weight and KEEP IT OFF is to build sustainable, simple habits that you can do every day, forever, with no problem.
Things like:
- Reduce portion sizes
- Add more veggies and lean protein to your plate and fewer sugary carbs and fatty foods
- Find ways to do something active every day
- Swap sugary drinks for water, diet soda, tea, black coffee
- Do more biking and walking, less driving
- Cook more at home, save restaurants and fast food for special occasions8 -

Quoted for truth, times a bajillion. If half of America followed your "things like" list, we'd all add 10 years to our lifespans and the national issue of obesity would self-correct.5 -
You came to the wrong place.

Soooo much of that at my work.1 -
You came to the wrong place. We don't do cleanses and liquid diets here.6

We don't do cleanses because they are a complete waste of time, money and effort.7 -

LOL, seriously. Why would anyone volunteer for a colonoscopy prep?

Rather than a fast, I'll make a pot of soup loaded with vegetables and some chicken for protein. Easy to digest, full of nutrients, and lots of water to rehydrate.4

Arguably, since it takes the body a period of time to literally physically adapt to changing one's way of eating, it would be most "easy on the body" to change habits gradually. For sure, it's easier in a practical sense.
In my understanding, it takes the gut microbiome a couple of weeks if not more to adjust to new foods. I wouldn't be surprised if adaptation of digestive enzymes, etc., were incremental as well.
For those of us who've been hanging out in the MFP forums for a while, how many stories have we read from people who've done a complete and abrupt eating overhaul, and gotten "bloated" (whatever the heck they mean by that - so euphemistic!), gassy, constipated, etc., etc.
Gradual change for the win, on several fronts, I think.

Hi @sierramcanally015
I hope you are still reading this thread. The cleanses/detoxes get a lot of hype. In my opinion, if you'd like to go a bit easier on the body, try baby steps. Start by logging your food. Look for ways to incorporate healthier foods for some of what you are currently calling garbage. Think about your goals. If your goals are to have a healthier diet, consider swapping out 1-2 foods for healthier choices at a time that meet your goals. If you try to eliminate everything you consider garbage all at once, you might not feel so great and find it very hard to stick with. If you have a medical reason to avoid certain foods elimination of them may be necessary, but most of us likely still eat a bit of "garbage" within our calorie goals. There are lots of people here who are very supportive and can give you ideas to make things easier on you. I wish you much success.1 -
Eating food is part of taking care of yourself. A liquid only diet doesn't belong in the same paragraph as taking it easy on your body.
What you need is moderation...not extremes.9 -
The only human who benefits from an all liquid diet is an infant. Adults do worse.4
