KAREN: Those are too funny!
HEATHER: I know nothing about Great Britain so am wondering if you will be able to visit your cancer friend easily. I know your visits mean so much to her! So glad you have people to pack you up!
LISA: Great getting to sleep in your new home.
I could not sleep at all last night. Very bad reflux and worry about getting the tv/internet moved without being too costly. So, I just tossed and turned and will try to take a nap later! This has been a very costly month for me.

Oh, I just wanted to touch base with all of you by an experiment I tried on myself. We (our little group here) were talking about turmeric (again) and the benefits etc, a couple of weeks ago. I had been taking turmeric capsules since January or February, to help my slightly aching joints. I felt good for a while, but then just began to feel very achy, stiff, and, well, old; like I really felt all of my years and then some. AND I NEVER feel that way normally. So...about three weeks ago, I saw an article about turmeric NOT being good for some people; so I thought about it and the turmeric was the only thing I was doing differently this year, so I decided to stop taking it. That was three weeks ago. I feel much, much better. My hips, knees, elbows and back, especially, do not ache anymore. Just thought I would toss that out there. For those that are using a herb or spice to aid with something, if you aren't getting relief, just stop; maybe it's not going to work for you. lol Weird, but I feel so much better.
I was having some of the same symptoms as you when I took tumeric ... plus ... I had gone 108 days without a period and was all excited about counting up to 12 months. Started taking tumeric, and about a week later, my period started and lasted 2 weeks. It could have been coincidence, but there is some evidence that tumeric messes with estrogen or acts like estrogen or something.
I stopped taking it, felt better, and my period stopped. I'm up to 44 days and counting.

HEATHER forgot to say I read the decluttering book you recommended and I have done a lot of clearing out cupboards and drawers. It really was a lightbulb moment for me

Kate - I believe it's the same Broken Brain that played earlier this year. If it is, Episode 3 is the one I really took to heart - a lot about how diet and exercise help folks with dementia and Alzheimers. And it mentioned Dr. Bredesen's studies.

Raining again........thinking of Heather and Lisa and so happy for them. Going to pick up the next book for my book club from my friend. It is called The Great Alone. Good day for reading as it is too rainy to do anything outside. Suppose to play golf but that is cancelled.
Have a great day.

SUE: The news was talking about flooding in Austin. Do you live near there. I have a cousin whose whole family lives in Austin.0

Very uneasy today. DH supposed to go to San Antonio (drive) today. In the best of times I hate him going but with the weather and flooding I am a bit of a wreck. . Silly of course but there it is nevertheless.

Lisa - FANTASTIC! How great to be sleeping in your new home! It probably feels really strange at the moment, but soon you will feel like you've been there forever.
Carol - Yes, trains from Brighton take 50 mins to London and there are direct trains from Hove station. If I catch my very local train I have to change at Brighton, but it's only a few minutes journey.

Well, the Freecycle people have been and taken away a sofa in their van. They are the same nice couple who took the cabinet yesterday. The guy is obviously some kind of handy man, so we offered him a whole lot of offcuts of timber that were in the garage and he took them. Then I remembered all the pictures we had from DH's old house which we have never put up (not my style) so I offered them two of the better ones.. They are Bali batik pictures, probably worth something, but we can't use them. So they took those. I really don't care if they sell them on, because I can't be bothered to market them.
This afternoon we went to the dump and the charity shop, so a very good day all round. I the dump.
I bought a bright PINK 2019 diary from the charity shop. Hooray!
Hairy Bikers tonight.

Lisa, What joy for you to be arranging your office and the rest of your life in your new home. I am so happy for you.
Heather, You have been an inspiration to all of us in the way you have walked through all the uncertainty and the reducing of possessions needed to finally be able to move to Hove.
Allie, It's time to focus on your gratitude list instead of thinking about what was good about going to Florida with Tom. Your life is so much better without him.
I had a great walk this morning--first both dogs and me, then both dogs and my friend, then Sasha and my friend, then just Sasha and me...over 7000 steps.

Barbie- you are right...
Right now I am home from grocery shopping, but bought lots of good things...
I am at Tom's house and have set up the Alfie cam so that I can keep an eye on them when I am gone...
I am thrilled to be here with the boys all 3 at once and Alfie is enjoying the fenced in back yard. It is a bit chilly but have the back door open a crack so he can go back and forth..
I have signed up to volunteer to help next Friday for Halloween on main St down at the nursing home...
Homer is thrilled and is on my lap and Aflie can't get enough of the outside...😁4 -
Son's room is done awaiting his arrival. I'll take a pic later. It looks Japanese!💗. I took out his childhood stuffed cats and put them on the bed.
Had a banana bread mini loaf, and getting ready to head to the commissary.
Going to be a long day!!!

Rebecca, I am so happy for you that you will be able to spend time with your son before he goes to Japan.
Allie, what a happy thought of you together with all three dogs. Gratitude has always been my solution for moments of self pity of sadness....also volunteering to help people who are not able to do things for themselves.2 -
Heather & Lisa - so happy for you both! Glad that you will be settled in soon!
Rebecca- it's sounds like you have set up your sons room to make him very happy and comfortable!
Allie- it sounds like you are very happy with all of your fur babies!

"Machka - So happy for you, and him, that he has made such great progress. It is a tribute to his strength and fitness, and your devoted care, that he has done so well. I'm sure the cycling is contributing greatly to his recovery. I know there are still challenges, and probably always will be, but I can remember that terrible blackness and despair you were in earlier in the year. It looked so very bad. The brain is so very much more flexible than we once thought, thank goodness, and you have been a great team. Well done!" Heather said this so much better than I ever could have!
Heather, congrats on only one waking hour during the night! I suspect that once the move is done, you will have less sleepless nights, so happy for you and your hubby.
Lisa, Woohoo! So nice to spend the first night in your "new" home! Great big smile on my face reading your post!
More to come, I'm sure, just doing this one page at a time so as not to lose my post!

has anyone heard from Wendy or Penny? DJ? hope all are well miss there input..
well we all took a nice nap, then I enjoyed soaking in a tub .. all i have is a stand up shower...fed the boys and took them a walk, kinda hard to walk 3 dogs with on retractable leashes lol, but it can be done with some fancy footwork..the boys are thrilled that I am here and spending so much time with them,...and I am enjoying them2 -
Very late checking in today, I had to drive an hour and a half away to pick up a proposal to drop off at a clients this morning and the guy I was meeting moved the time ahead by one hour in the middle of the night. I made the drive in one hour, thankfully no speeding tickets were gotten.
Lenora - My brother bought a generator a few years ago after having a power outage that lasted for 7 days. He said it's his insurance that he never has another power outage now.
Machka - Great news about your husband. I started on this post shortly after he was injured it looked so dire at the time.
Heather - When do you actually move? I bet you are so excited!
Lisa - It must be so nice to be in your own house now, do you have to do a lot of cleaning at the old place yet?
Allie - I would never survive with just a shower, I feel so claustrophobic in them. I prefer baths. You must be in heaven with the dogs.
Tracey in a sunny Edmonton3 -
Allie - Penny is fine, but v busy. She asked me to send her love to all.
I must say I am worried about Wendy. I messaged her, but no reply. Any one else want to try?
I am moving on the 30th. House is being packed up on the 29th. Will be left with a bed, a sofa and a tv.
Tomorrow we will empty any flower pots and decide which ones we are taking. We definitely have far too many. Also declutter my bedside table drawer.
DH managed to get the mail redirected online. It didn't like me when I tried.

Forgot to say this morning that I had a similar reaction to Turmic as KJ. Didn’t have any aches but got the pills for DH. So I took them a couple of weeks and my elbows and knees started aching.

Yes, in the early days, the doctors thought he would end up in a full-care nursing home. They didn't quite tell me that at the time, but did tell me that later. He was in Post Traumatic Amnesia so long, his brain injury was classified as "extremely severe".
I had even started looking for full-care nursing homes for him and a small apartment in the city for me.
But he has amazed everyone.
There were a lot of people praying for him from all over the world ... and here too.
He also had health and fitness in his favour.- I was told that if he had been a smoker, he would have likely died or been in a vegetative state. But he had quit smoking over 20 years ago.
- Alcohol really slows brain recovery and causes numerous other problems ... but his alcohol consumption had diminished to just a few drinks a year, and he hasn't had a drink since the accident.
https://msktc.org/tbi/factsheets/Alcohol-Use-After-Traumatic-Brain-Injury - His fitness level was good. Yes, he lost a lot of fitness, but he started at quite a high level. And there's evidence that exercise helps the brain.
https://www.brainline.org/blog/getting-back-bike/what-brain-derived-neurotrophic-factor-and-why-you-should-care
Also I'm not sure if it helped or not, but I kind of pushed the limits with him from time to time. For example, they told me to play him only really quiet instrumental or classical music. I did play some of that, but also played some of his favourites from the 70s. And he wasn't to watch TV when he was coming out of PTA, but I put it on for a little while each day anyway. I watched him and if it seemed to bother him, I'd turn it off, but there were times when he seemed interested and other times when he would laugh at things in the shows.
And I had him out walking up to about 2 km (with breaks, of course) when one of the OTs told me I could start taking him for 300-500 metre walks.
So ... it's good. Much better than anticipated.
He's still got to go for a neuropsychological assessment to be cleared for driving and managing finances etc. And he's got to see a neurosurgeon about his back - he had injured a couple discs. And he still struggles with fatigue and a few other things. But we'll get there ... one step at a time.

I didn't notice more aches and pains, but with my stomach "pouch" being about the size of an egg, it hurt my stomach, I felt like I was going to pop like a baloon. It went away when l stopped taking the Turmeric.
