Hello all: I thought we were to meet with someone on the financials today but all they did was take last year's tax return as proof of income and ask my DH to sign a paper requesting foundation funds. She told us they do this for all of their patients as some drugs can be as much as $30,000 per month. DH is on Medicare and we have Part D coverage. They have approved the drug but there is still a co-pay of about $3000 per month and we will end up in the donut hole and then turn around at the beginning of the year and pay the deductible and then be in the donut hole again right away. Yuck! Biopsy on Thursday. They are sure this is cancer that is not curable but are doing a biopsy because this type of cancer is usually seen in people who are alcoholic, have hepatitis or other liver injury. None of those things apply to my DH. Emotions all over the place.
Karen - Glad the grandson is doing so well. He may find he likes math after all.
All of these fudge recipes are making me hungry for some but I will resist.
Thanks to all of you for your caring wishes, Sue in WA8 -
Sue in WA - crossing fingers foundation funds come through and help out, also saying prayers the biopsy shows something hopeful. This Medicare Part D is still a mystery to me with the "donut hole" part. Looks like it is going away in 2020 but then premiums will likely go upward. Sigh.
Is your DH feeling pretty well otherwise? Able to eat, sleep, have a fairly normal routine?
Hugs to you both!

It is so wonderful to find you all still here. I missed you all so much, but life has been hectic this year. I have popped in and lurked from time to time. But you are all so prolific it's difficult to keep up. Maybe I will, have more time in November to rejoin the fray.

This has been a rough day. I've had a tooth that bothered me all weekend and I got to see the dentist this morning. I expected that he'd say something like it was a filling to be replaced and instead he sent me to an endodontist who did a bunch more tests and now I'm scheduled for root canal on Monday morning. That really knocked me for a loop and I had trouble getting motivated to do anything for the rest of the day. I took Jake with me so there would be a second set of ears to hear what the dentist had to say. She was darling and looked only slightly older than a high school student but was quite competent and explained everything very well.9

Good evening y’all,
I went to the heart doctor today and all is good. The ventricular tachycardia is under control with the decrease of meds. I was taking too much causing too low of heart beat. She wants me to do “regular” exercise! I’m trying. I did go with DH for a walk this evening. I have to admit. I enjoyed it. Plus I ran into a church friend and she goes to the Silver Sneaker classes at the Y. That gives me some motivation!
I have an appointment with my neurologist on Friday with results of the MRI and our plan of action for my back surgery. He’ll refer me back to my neurosurgeon for that.
Sue Have you thought of a GoFundMe account? I started one for my daughter and have helped her a lot. If you want to know more message me.
KarenUK cute little boy! You should be proud!!
Heather I thought you would never move to Hove! I’m happy you are finally moved in. You will have fun settling in and decorating I’m sure.
Lanette, Katla, Barbara About my daughter’s job: She is a Yoga instructor and she had private clients and at some studios. She also worked at the Sheraton Resort at Bay Point. Sheraton is not reopening but they are giving her some emergency unemployment thru next month. Jessica was heart broken about it. She loved Serenity Spa and working with the tourists there. She also worked for a chiropractor, but his offices are closed, but had s temporary office open. She has gotten some privates in Destin and a friend told her she could use a room at their offices for a studio there. It even has a exterior door.
She has a lot of friends and she’s a hard worker. I know she will get thru this.
It’s nice to be back!!

Did 30 minutes of HIIT. You get the same calorie burn in half the time. Supposed to go to the Green Room today. The plan for tomorrow is to take the water class.
Heather – thinking of you today and hoping you have good weather. Update: horray for you!!!
Janetr – I used that recipe once. For some reason, it didn’t hold up for me. Wonder what I’m doing wrong? Must be that I’m not using a candy thermometer.
Felicia – about the fudge: do you find that it takes longer to get up to temp than the 4 minutes they say? Maybe since I didn’t use a candy thermometer, it would have taken longer than the 4 minutes.
Wizzywig (is it Viv?) – there are times when I check in multiple times a day and at other times I just skim. I think that’s how most people do it
My sinuses are still acting up. Took the decongestant last night again, got 1-1/2 hrs of sleep. The bad thing is that even tho I’m not sick, my voice is very raspy. Update: went to the MD, I have a sinus infection. Am now on amoxicillin. Not sure why she prescribed amoxicillin. Any time previously I had a sinus infection, they always prescribed a Zpac
Lanette – we looked into an absentee ballot for Jess. Seems they have to mail you the ballot. It’s not something that’s online that you can download. Then you have to send it back. Carol – that’s a great suggestion, just make sure you give yourself enough time to get it done.
Rebecca – who is that scary person????
Karen in VA – congrats to your gs and YOU too
Sue in WA – good thoughts being sent for your hubby and YOU. Be sure to take care of yourself thru all this
Terri – welcome back. Please pop in and just say “hi” whenever you can
Dana – happy you got such good news from the MD

Hi Gals,
Michele – I use the same recipe that Felicia and Janetr do but mine claims to be grandma f’s special recipe!
So my scarecrow costume is ready, I’ll get a picture taken tomorrow and will post, easy, cheap, cute, comfortable = what a costume is supposed to be.
As many of you know I do a variety of things to make ends meet (and lately not just meet but add to some savings) and one of those is take friends to the airport, I have a pretty good sized group of friends and live within 1 hour of 3 international airports, I ask that folks cover my costs (tolls and gas) and tip me what ever they want. It’s been a busy time in the airport run business – most months I am lucky if I go to one airport twice (a drop off and a pickup) in the last 2 weeks I have been to san Francisco airport 12 (yes twelve) times! I have one more trip on the books for this month and it is tonight, the flight is delayed a full hour, maybe a bit more… luckily I found out before I left home, so I have caught up with you all. This one was to land about 9:30 pm and won’t land till 10:30, get luggage, pick up, drive them home, drive me home --- it will be after midnight and tomorrow I have to be up by 5:30 - these are tough, but nice people and they usually take good care of me.
I went to a talk on lowering energy use in your home, and I am really good at keeping my bills low, but I do it by no air conditioning, no heat, one light at a time,…. So I guessed that this would be more about tricks to do it and not live the “caveman” lifestyle I do..and I was right, a bunch of stuff I would never be able to afford, but some I can, and probably can DYI or get done for pretty cheap. So I am going to look into some. A lot about eliminating drafts – with caulking and/or spot insulation. Outlets and can lights are big culprits of drafts, and I have those and I have a couple of places that I know are drafty.
I did have to giggle a family stood up and told about their experience, they spent $40,000 and got $9,500 in rebates and lowered their energy bill by $31 per month - Now they did say the house is much more comfortable but – that’s not a great return on investment – it will take 81 years 9 months to break even I think they were in their 50’s looking at them.

I have never owned nor used a candy thermometer in my life.

Halloween is done and dusted for another year. I saw a grand total of 2 kids dressed up out there as my husband I walked to the store. It's just not done here.
However, my work is having a Halloween/Farewell tea tomorrow, and we were asked to bring something "spooky". I had no idea what to bring, so we went to our little local store this evening, and I found some Dark Tim Tams. They'll have to do.
If I have the energy, I might dig out my cat ears to wear. I think I know where they are.

Happy Halloween Ladies - We are expecting thunderstorms today so our neighborhood has delayed the hayride/candy grab to tomorrow night. I'm sure I'll have some singles coming by tonight and then tomorrow night when the hayride stops at our house I'll get all the kids at once and be done! The more candy that is gone, the better. Hubs will take the rest to work when he gets home.

Happy Wednesday!
Barbie glad the dds sent you to an expert. Root canal = no fun = but long term it saves the tooth. I am probably looking at the same procedure, will find out at my visit next week.
Low key day today, I have zero expectations for teaching today—kids are truly ramped up for Halloween. I will stay calm and do what I can. The faculty in this building goes overboard with the junk food—I will take a pic if I can but I am completely prepared with good choices so it won’t upend my healthy lifestyle. Not being righteous just practical.

Morning, all,
Got home at 1 a.m. this morning, after delays in Dallas due to a pilot that didn't show. Got back to a driving rainstorm by the airport, but by the time I drove up the mountain, it was down to a mere sprinkle or two.
Up early anyway, because when Egg is calling me, her "meow" sounds an awful lot like "Mom!"
Glad to be home.
Love y'all,
Lisa in AR6 -
Up early so I can walk the dogs enough before driving Jake to his weekly blood test at 6:30.
I voted absentee when I lived in California from the very first time we were allowed to do it without a special reason (traveling, disabled, etc.). In Washington we vote by mail and I love it. Jake and I voted last week.3 -

Good morning all! Happy Wednesday and Happy Halloween for those who celebrate! I am all dressed up in my little black dress with my pinstripe button down under it, white simple button down sweater turned backward tied around my waist as an apron, and one of my red tablecloths turned into a hooded cloak (with safety pins so it can still be a tablecloth). Handkerchief lined basket filled with goodies to take to Grandma's house. Not what I planned, lol, but it will work! So far I have a puppy, a llama, and a bat coming this morning. Not sure what the two babies and the four year old will be dressed as. The four year old has NOT been a willing participant in dressing up in the past three Halloweens. He is obsessed with space right now, though. If his mom is smart, she could probably talk him into being a planet, the sun, star, or astronaut. Anyway, house is decorated and ready to go. My whole wheat pancakes have been made with the whey left over from my yogurt making and I have added some pumpkin to them. They are yummy! (I allowed myself one bite to see if they should be served). Today's activities are: A Mummy making race (wrapping dollies up in toilet paper), making ghost ribbon dancers, making pumpkin muffins, and a walk around the block (in costume) to deliver treats to the neighbors. Then lunch and nap! Whoo! I will try to get a pic or two of the goings on.
Heather-How did you sleep?! So happy for you!
Karen VA- My mother was a candy maker also. Those are very vivid memories for me. I, however, don't make candy.
NY Karen- I am with you on the sugar overload that seems to surround kids and kid activities on holidays! One reason I am so glad I set all of the "snack" rules. I think you are smart to prepare some healthy choices for yourself while you are at work!
Kids are here, breakfast has been served and they are ready to move on to the next activity. I better get moving! (lol it took me two hours to write this little blurb!) ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)4 -

I was very stressed about signing my ballot this year. I have a couple signatures I use, and I couldn't remember which one was for voting. But I do love the way Oregon votes. It took me nearly an hour, but I was able to really study the voter pamphlets and feel good about my decision. And no waiting in line!

I decided to go back and try again to vote. The best part was I found a parking place right across from the voting site. 1 hr and 30 minutes later, I had voted. Knees hated it!

I haven't got a lot to say but thought I would share this conversation with my husband last night regarding the Halloween chips that are for the ghouls and goblins tonight.
Me: Those chips are really tempting me
Rodg: Laughing, I have been thinking about them too. There are 50 in the box, that will still leave 48 for the kids.
Me: I wasn't thinking about the kids, I was thinking about the calorie count.
Rodg: Well one of us in this relationship needs to have a conscious to do what's right, I always thought it was you, but apparently not since you aren't worried about the kids.
Me: What kind of chips do you want? They're small bags, do you want 2?
I had one bag of my favourite ketchup chips, counted it, logged it and exercised to burn it off. Hopefully tonight the other 47 bags leave in pillowcases and orange pumpkins.
My Grandchildren are coming to my house and doing their trick or treating from there. I'm so excited to see them!

Our new helpers! Lol
Our assistant hosts came in finally yesterday. We have yet to set up a schedule with them. A funny side note.... they show up and the park now had spots available! Karma???
Katla, we bought an instant heat water heater and bypassed the one that runs on gas. Ours is electric. Works great! We just had to replace the toilet then discovered a new leak that drenched everything in the holds. I figure repair costs are a lot lower than house repairs of the same problems!

Barbie you are motivating me. I went to the dentist yesterday too. I have a cracked tooth that has the potential to become a problem if I do not remove silver filing and have a crown. After hearing your story I will do it sooner than later.
Allie is the feeder away from the building. The problem this time of year they can attract mice and that might be their reason. If you can convince them you will keep it further out that might help your argument.1 -
A lovely bracing walk on the sea front.
Still chaos here, but the two girls came over to visit us. Very excited.
We've introduced ourselves to the local shops and the next door neighbour.
No Internet, no TV, no phone. But we are good.
Much love, Heather UK XXXXXX17 -
