Lanette: Oregon is also a vote by mail sate, but I don’t know whether there are any poling places that a person can go to. I tend to doubt it. I haven't seen any ballots in our mailbox yet. :noway:
Heather: CONGRATULATIONS ON BEING IN YOUR NEW HOME!!!!! You two look happy and the backdrop is lovely.
Sharon near Seattle: In our area the Rufous hummingbirds stop by for the summer. The Annas hummingbirds live here year around. We keep our feeders filled all year. The ones we use stick to the windows with a suction cup. The house helps to prevent them from freezing. In really cold weather we rotate them during the day so that there is always sugar water available. We love the little birds.
Karen: I share your grief for the families of slain Jewish worshipers in Pittsburgh.
(((Sue in WA))) You and your DH are in my prayers.
Irish Terri: It is good to see you! :flowerforyou:
Barbie: I hope the root canal solves your problem and eliminates pain. :flowerforyou:
Dana in AR: I hope for the best for your DD. Teaching yoga is wonderful, but I don’t think it is lucrative. I really appreciate the yoga teachers that teach my classes. I know the pay is minimal, and their own gym membership is most likely part of it.
Rita: We’re getting through a load of repairs, bit at a time. I really can’t complain. Our latest repair was the water heater, and the cost of that was low. An instant water heater is something to consider if this repair isn’t satisfactory. Thanks for the suggestion. :flowerforyou:
Snowflake: I love the cartoon!
Tonight is trick or treat here in Halloween Town. I don’t expect many trick or treaters, but I have some candy just in case—individually wrapped Reece’s Peanut Butter Cups, 80 calories each. I hope I don’t end up eating them all.
:embarrassed:
Katla in Beautiful NW Oregon3 -
Katla - I have full sized candy bars. They are calling to me. So far, I have managed to ignore them.

Heather, welcome home!
I'm thinking November is looking better and better. I'm pretty much ready to see the back of October, for sure.
Lisa, who is, at least, back in Arkansas3 -
I'm late to the October party. Cheez, I almost missed it entirely! But various teaching duties have had me running around like a headless chicken. On the bright side, I've also been running for exercise (and to get the stress out of my system) and have scraped together about 90 miles this month. That makes it nearly 375 miles since July 1st, when I started counting.
Halloween is celebrated on the actual day up here in Longyearbyen. The sun has already gone down for the year, though we still have a bit of twilight in the middle of the day. It was dark by 6 pm when the trick-or-treaters started coming.
Here's how I greeted them at the door:
For extra effect, I scratched and scrabbled on the inside of the door before opening it and knelt so my head was level with the kids'.
See y'all next month!

Lisa: I totally agree with your thoughts about putting October to rest! It has been a very expensive month for me. In addition, it feels as I get older, it is so difficult to not to get vastly upset about glitches in my life.
Heather: You look so happy!
Carol in GA5 -
Margaret -yes the bird feeder is away from the building near retaining wall...I put mealworms and shelled seed so there is no waste and if I need to will get a drop tray so none hits the ground...I investigated alot before I put it up...will see if I get to keep it.
Heather- you both look so happy how wonderful for you....2 -

Did 30 minutes of HIIT. You get the same calorie burn in half the time. Supposed to go to the Green Room today. The plan for tomorrow is to take the water class.
Heather – thinking of you today and hoping you have good weather. Update: horray for you!!!
Janetr – I used that recipe once. For some reason, it didn’t hold up for me. Wonder what I’m doing wrong? Must be that I’m not using a candy thermometer.
Felicia – about the fudge: do you find that it takes longer to get up to temp than the 4 minutes they say? Maybe since I didn’t use a candy thermometer, it would have taken longer than the 4 minutes.
Wizzywig (is it Viv?) – there are times when I check in multiple times a day and at other times I just skim. I think that’s how most people do it
My sinuses are still acting up. Took the decongestant last night again, got 1-1/2 hrs of sleep. The bad thing is that even tho I’m not sick, my voice is very raspy. Update: went to the MD, I have a sinus infection. Am now on amoxicillin. Not sure why she prescribed amoxicillin. Any time previously I had a sinus infection, they always prescribed a Zpac
Lanette – we looked into an absentee ballot for Jess. Seems they have to mail you the ballot. It’s not something that’s online that you can download. Then you have to send it back. Carol – that’s a great suggestion, just make sure you give yourself enough time to get it done.
Rebecca – who is that scary person????
Karen in VA – congrats to your gs and YOU too
Sue in WA – good thoughts being sent for your hubby and YOU. Be sure to take care of yourself thru all this
Terri – welcome back. Please pop in and just say “hi” whenever you can
Dana – happy you got such good news from the MD
Michele in NC
This one?
Its my youngest Navy son. He's on his laotop, completely oblivious to the fact that I'm digitally dressing him up, using the Messenger app! Haahaa!

Barbara ... you put water in the fudge waiting for a soft ball ... LOL!
Karen UK ... that grandson is a cutie!!
Heather ... Hurray!!
Karen VA ... success in math is nothing sneeze at! Your grandson's comment that he didn't get anxious just touched my heart ... so many years my younger son dealt with anxiety and school. You are doing a great, great thing!
Well, yesterday was a difficult one. Took my older son to the Cleveland Clinic for additional testing regarding his recent bouts with acute kidney failure. I'm still processing, but bottom line his congenital issues make further testing, let alone treatment impossible. While he's stable at this time, dialysis is most likely in his future. He is not a candidate for a transplant. Assuming his dad and I live to old age, he will not outlive his parents. None of this information was new, but it was framed in a way we hadn't heard before. It was a quiet ride home from Cleveland to Buffalo. This morning I gave everyone a heads-up ... we will not entertain a glass half empty ... woe is me ... the end is near mentality here. My son's kidneys (only one undersized one really ... the other is non-functioning and rarely found on scans) have gotten him through 32 years and we will do everything we can to keep it/them healthy for as long as we can. Who knows what the future holds? Fifteen years ago they told me they couldn't treat a heart abnormality either and then a few years later a cardiac pioneer found a way to improve his heart function. Frankly, all of us have a condition or situation that will eventually result in the end of our lives. My son just got to have his named for him yesterday. Lucky, huh? When my son was born I was told he wouldn't live 24 hours. We chose then not to focus on the statistics and the negatives. Really, what is the point ... who does it serve? And if someone had told me back then that he would eventually need dialysis ... I would have said ... "we'll deal with it." And that's exactly what we're going to do ... deal with it when the time comes. And that, I'm happy to say, is not today. And then I told them all to smile and have a good day or I'd slap them ....
It is just a miserable rainy, windy day here near Buffalo. I bought one small bag of candy in the event that some brave soul comes to the door ... but it's unlikely on our dark county road.
Happy Halloween!
Beth near Buffalo

Elizabeth in Atlanta: Have you voted and how long did you have to wait in line?
Carol in GA (Marietta)
Carol in GA: : DH and I are going tomorrow AM. The closest polling place has only 5 voting stations and apparently there has been a two hour wait during the day. We're going to show up at 7:00 AM and hopefully get in and out!1 -

Beth: I'm inspired by your outlook. The most important organ for our health is our brain, and you are so right to feed it positive, smiling thoughts vs. self-pity and worry. Bravo to you.
Love all the Halloween photos. No kids knocking here which is good because opening the front door gives Mars the cat wrong ideas. :h We had a treat tonight...scallops! I was saving them for a special occasion, so we are celebrating Heather and DH moving to Hove.
Tomorrow is start of a new month. I'll have to find my October intentions and prepare my report card. New folks, be watching for Barbie's post with the link to the November thread.
Stay well friends.

Beth - you have an inspirational outlook on life. ((( Hugs to you and your family )))

Happy Halloween. We won't get any trick or treaters as we are a half mile up a country lane. Oh what to do with all this candy???
KJ thanks < I think > for the adults only fudge recipe. Will try it with rum and pecans.
Karen in UK the GS pic, the Cornwall location and especially the red tennies.
Karen in VA what wondrous memories, how blessed you were in your Mother. And how blessed your grandson is in you. Brava!
Heather, I can hear the champagne cork popping from here!
Sharon ugh indeed! The only way I can make half portions of oatmeal is to make full portion, eat half and fridge the second half for tomorrow
Sue in WA ditto Lanette's prayers the biopsy brings hope. Rx costs in the US are shameful.
Barbie root canal, ugh! Only thing good about them is they are way better than losing the tooth. ((Hugs))
Dana so glad for the good heart news. Your daughter's yoga expertise will be much needed during the recovery, hope many venues/opportunities open up soon!
Kim SMH at the 81+ year ROI story really. And that at California's exorbitant energy rates :noway:
Machka oooh those dark TimTams look addictive. Lucky we don't have them here!
Elizabeth in Atlanta "Sugar season" how apt!
Tracey SOMEBODY has to be the grown up. . . but it doesn't have to be you ALL the time
Heather Hove! By the sea! HOME!!!
Beth What Okie, Barbie, NYKaren, Rori and Sarah said. Brava!
Katla, got my ballots last week. You might want to check with your county clerk.
Okie "full sized candy bars" :noway:
Penny, glad to "see" you back
pip the pics!
Flags at half mast today for the Tree of Life Synagogue victims. Puts all my little annoyances in perspective.

Katla: I agree with Barbara. We all got our ballots more than a week ago. I would contact your county election people. I assume that is who mails them out.

Beth, you made me teary, you are truly an amazing faith-filled Mom. I've been wallowing in self pity for several weeks over family woes that absolutely pale in comparison to your situation. God sent your son to you because He knew what a fiercely loving Mother you would be. Hugs and praying for all of you.
However you did make me laugh with "And then I told them all to smile and have a good day or I'd slap them .... ". We love you!
