Oh, Lisa! That woman sounds like the sort who would say, “I’m just being honest!” when what they are is brutal, abrupt, and cursed with a critical lack of insight into what work is worth. The fact that she considers your travel a benefit when you obviously see it as a drawback should tell you something. I’d be tempted to send an email to her acknowledging what negatives you honestly can and asking her to consider your alternative point of view as to how you benefit the organization because of that travel and explaining in a non-complaining way, if possible, some of the personal cost to you!

Drkatiebug ... I would love your help!! But given your quite a ways away, I'm going to have to brave it alone ...

Barbara ... I decided to research some of my meds ... I've been continuing with the RXs through the stomach flu, but nothing OTC. It seems my Aleve (NSAID) 2x a day might be the culprit. I suffer with vascular problems to begin with and according to my research Aleve can worsen edema problems. So I take Aleve for arthritic symptoms ... the answer there is going to have to be less weight and more gentle exercise. The difference in my ankles is significant.

Felicia .. my older son has congenital issues the affect his kidneys and until this last year never really bothered him. What kind of diet is kidney healthy?

It's been a rough week, but it's over. The weathermen are promising a miserable weekend, so this is perfect time to get some things done inside.

Took the water aerobics class today. The plan for tomorrow is to do part of the Slim in 6 DVD.

Barbie, Kim, Barbara and everyone else who responded to Allie – BRAVO for your posts to Allie. BRAVO

Cindy – Welcome to a great group

Barbara – your way of handling lawn care is the same as mine. The reason I did it last year? For one thing, I wanted to use up the grass seed and Weed and Feed and Vince wasn’t doing it.

Exercised, then dropped off a bathing suit of mine to this gal who does sewing for me. See, it’s chlorine resistant but I think the chlorine wore away the elastic on the legs. It ate away the lining (or part of it). I’ve asked her to put in more elastic for me.

Then I went to the Salvation Army. SCORE!!!! I’ve been looking for ankle weights but with weights you can take out/put in so you can gradually increase the resistance. Well, I found a pair, look brand new, for $8.00 for the set. Very happy with that find.

Then made an angel food/pineapple cake. It’s cooling right now. Basically, you take angel food cake mix and instead of water use a 20oz can of CRUSHED pineapple. Prepare as you would an angel food cake. Angel food cake can be so “blah” tasting, but the pineapple just gives it a little “zing” for not many extra calories. Then roasted the last of the spaghetti squash, made crab cakes so I can put them in the refrigerator to firm up and then cook tomorrow. Now have some garlic bread in the broiler for Vince. I like to have some in the freezer

Katla – I’m so sorry about your friend.

Not sure why, but lately I’ve been itchy. Not all over, under my chin, last night my one arm, sometimes my hip, but always around my waist. I remember one time a long time ago I had the same kind of itching around my waist. The MD kept insisting it was a food allergy. I insisted it was a heat rash. She prescribed prednisone. We went camping in a much cooler environment. The itch went away. I didn’t realize that you needed to gradually wean yourself off the prednisone. I stopped it cold turkey. But no harm done. Now I’m not sure what it is. I eat different foods, so I doubt highly it’s a food allergy. The weather is cooler so even tho I sweat when I exercise, I don’t sweat as much. Also, my lips are so dry. But that could easily be because it just got so cold. Just read that antihistamines help. Don’t know if we have any in the house.

    32. Itchy, crawly skin

I've been "blessed with 29 or 30 of those symptoms during my years of perimenopause. Evidently I went into perimenopause back in about 2010 or 2011 ... and I'm still there.

And then, not only was I having the itchy, crawly skin in general, in 2016 I got the measles and since then I have not been able to wear half my wardrobe. I can only wear perfectly smooth clothes, and preferably nothing around my neck unless it is fairly loose. No seams or tags that rub. No textures. No scarves.

I have a small selection of nice merino wool clothing ... they're all a big "NOPE" now. :(

I put on anything with even the slightest bit of texture and within about 5 minutes I'm almost in tears trying to tear it off. And even looking at people wearing textured clothing makes my skin crawly.

Thank you, Sharon... I really appreciate the advice. I have actually written that exact email out twice, and deleted it each time. Now that I'm calmer, I can see that her assessment of my worth (or lack thereof) to the organization is born out of her own filters. She's not here to say "you're doing it right," she's here to fix things, that's literally her job. The other piece of it is that while she pays lip service to the drive to have a "mobile workforce," everything she does, says and a number of other changes she's made show that she literally cannot admit that a remote grant manager has any worth.

    It's also not just me.

The CEO just announced yesterday over email to the entire staff that the program director who is in charge of eight different program specialists will now report to an office in a very remote part of our council every working day. This makes it literally impossible for her to visit the offices where the program specialists are housed, as they are based in eight different cities spread across the entire 93,000 square mile council. It was humiliating to the director to have it announced in exactly that way to the whole staff, and literally prevents her from doing her job, as the office she's been assigned to report to daily has neither working Internet nor working phones.

Who does the CEO report to? Is there a board that hired her?

Again, I'm wondering if the organisation is going under or needs to downsize and this is the way they're going about it.

I also have mild contact allergies to things like nickel and nylon, and a more serious dust mite allergy ... these things don't help the itchiness at all.

Allie: Ditto what others here have expressed about you cooking for Tom and Elena. I'd rather see you keep the food for yourself, and use it to break in your new Instapot.

Lisa: Hang in there. If you need a reference, you have my number.

Beth: Glad you've figured out the source of swelling in your ankles.

NYKAREN and other yougurt makers: I use Fairlife 2 percent milk. You can totally skip the heating/cooling step because it is ultra-filtered. https://thisoldgal.com/instant-pot-no-boil-yogurt/
A half gallon of milk makes approximately 48 oz of finished, strained Greek style yougurt. I put the whey in my blender and use it to whip up 3 smoothies at a time.

Cindy from Ontario: Welcome. Hope you'll keep coming back.

    Heather
: Your decluttering inspired me to tackle the kitchen junk drawer. Now the pantry awaits. You have us all hanging and waiting to hear outcome of email from your friend's husband.

Rebecca: Awww, cute selfie with DS.

Katla: So sorry for the trajectory of your friend's life. Just reminds me again how good health is my wealth.

Vicki: May you find peace and string together at least a few nights of good sleep. ((hugs))

    Felicia
: I think your approach to eat right, exercise, take vitamins, etc. is right on. It's been my experience that acupuncture helps promote kidney function, so maybe that's an avenue to research.

    Evelyn
: The Beck Diet Solution sounds like a book I'd like. Will try to find it as an audio book. Congrats on your Chamber award.

Michele: Yay on finding the ankle weights you've wanted. You've reminded me to knock the cobwebs off of my pair and get back to wearing them around the house.

Machka: Sorry you can't wear textured clothing. Must be a challenge.

    SueBDew
: Your garden area is beautiful. Must be amazing to see the monarchs in person.

I had my therapeutic massage yesterday, so feel terrific today. Two of my friends have recently had hip replacements, and are doing well. They shared how it started as a pain in their groin, and that gave me pause, as what I thought was a groin strain from swimming, sounds so much like their hip issue. It's also on the same side as my foot with Morton's Neuroma, so I wonder if there is something in my gait that is throwing my hip off. Will try to be mindful of the discomfort, and start with chatting with my chiropractor.

To all in the path of the impending Noreaster, take care~

Here, today was a spectacular, sunny 67 degree fall day, and it's expected to stay this way for the next few days, so will start now to convince DH to take a drive somewhere scenic. We are still a little over a week away from departing to Puerto Vallarta. I can hardly wait. Ordered a new swimsuit in a size smaller than what I was wearing this summer, and it fits!!! Non-scale victory. Yay!!! Okay, celebration over. Time to hop on the recumbent bike and burn some bonus calories.

Stay well friends. We can do this.

    Mary - thank you!

Machka - she's on contract through the national organization. As someone who brings in donations, I'm in contact with the chief financial officer almost daily, and we're actually in really good financial shape, better than many similar-size councils. And they're not downsizing, but on the contrary, looking at expanding the staff in the upcoming year. Pretty sure this CEO is having a hard time envisioning me as part of that future, and honestly, at this point, I'm having a little bit of a hard time seeing it as well. Respect should be a two-way street.

Rori - I had planned to ask, thank you very much for the offer! I am determined to land on my feet, whether it's in this organization or another. At this point, the CFO and I have both suggested to the CEO that I go on contract as a grant writer, and she's "thinking about it." It would resolve a number of issues, but not sure she'd be willing to put the guarantees in the contract that I would insist on having there. There are hazards to that path, and I'm well aware of them.

    Rebecca
    - such a lovely thing, seeing all your sons in one day! No, it's not wrong to orchestrate. :) It's what moms do best.

Tomorrow is museums downtown, I'm thinking. There's the off chance I won't be back this way, so will take advantage of the days off to enjoy the good things about this place. Today was a very good day, as well as being beautiful weather.

    Love y'all,
    Grateful you're here, always,

I haven't seen middle son and dear daughter in law since last February, when husband had surgery. Time passes so fast sometimes! He and her are such a cute couple, going and exploring their new city ( well since last November), so almost a year. The fact that they go and explore, gives me hope that their relationship will just get stronger over time. They were both so young, and first loves so I was worried!
We picked a meeting place so both of us had the same amount of time driving. It seemed the fair thing to do. My middle son is growing quite the beard and mustache! My cuddle bug!

Cindy from Ontario: Welcome to a great group! Are you from Ontario, Canada, Ontario, CA or Ontario, Oregon? :star:

Heather: It seems like you’re on the countdown for the move. I hope you are able to enjoy the adventure and don’t have too many stresses in the process. :star:

Vicki: It sounds as though you took the initiative and are reclaiming your home and privacy. Wishing you the best of luck. :star:

Felicia: We live in an area with shorter days and longer nights this time of year. Vitamin D3 is a good friend. :flowerforyou:

    Lanette: Loved the introvert link. :bigsmile;

Lisa: I love the picture.

Rori: I agree with you and share the blessing of good health. It is a huge gift. DH is medically complicated, but he is also feeling better and doing more. Yay!!! The RV makes him happy & feeling happier improves his health. Congrats on the smaller swim suit. WIN! :flowerforyou:

I have been offered a riding lesson on Sunday. Yay! That is two weeks in a row.

I slept 10.5 hours last night ... and felt like I could have slept 2 or 3 more hours.

But I had to be up because we needed to drive the route for the event we're hosting tomorrow. It's a 100 km cycling event. Unfortunately they are doing some construction on the route so there are a couple sections of gravel. That's not good. But fortunately, the sections are only short.

We would have liked to go for a ride too, but it is quite windy today.

"Good to hear about your doings Heather.

Ten or twelve years ago Shirley had to give up work because she was beginning to lose mental and physical co-ordination. The condition continued to develop and now she doesn’t recognise any one or respond to her name and can’t move or communicate. We have been able to care for her at home for these years, but in fact in a few weeks I am moving, and she is going into a nursing home near where I will be in Devon.

One of our sons lives very near and his wife and he have played a great part in caring for Shirley. We have three lovely grand-daughters who have also played their part in caring - now 23, 21 and 15 – so they knew Shirley as she was, which is great for us all. Although I am moving away from them now it has been great to be with them as they grew up. I wish you and John well in your move to Hove!!

You and Shirley were very close childhood friends, and I am sorry not to be writing with more positive news, and that I can’t let Shirley know you have been in touch.

You didn’t say whether you kept up your writing – I hope you did.

    With love"

This is the reply I got from my friend's husband this morning. :'(:'(:'(:'(:'(
I somehow thought there must be something wrong because these days most people are traceable.
Those if you who have read ME I AM, my memoir, will know how much I loved her when I was seven. <3<3<3<3<3<3<3
Anyone know what it is she has?

Heather, I'm so sorry that the news from your friend wasn't better :( . Allie may have it right, that it is Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, or ALS. Apparently, dementia can accompany the disease.
