    There's a thread going in another subforum entitled: What do you do to avoid boredom?

    My response:

    Work full time
    Go to university part time
    Cycling
    Cycling club participation
    Running
    Walking
    Lifting some weights
    Going out to theatre, symphony, films, etc.

    That pretty much fills my day!


    My mother had a policy ... if we complained about being bored, she could always find us something to do. Like cleaning our rooms or doing the dishes or something. We learned quickly not to be bored.

    I didn't add that I also take care of much of the "adulting" stuff ... for both my husband and me now. That keeps me surprisingly busy too.

    Welcome Cindy, we're glad you're here. I too am a late evening snacker and eating high carb snacks only makes you want more. Try having yogurt, low fat cheese stick or lower sugar fruit. Is is at all possible to remove the offending snacks from your home? High protein foods help you stay satisfied longer. I'll be 69 in just over a week and I've lost 35 pounds since the first of the year by cutting out carbs. Daily exercise is also very important.

    Hang in there you can do this, you're in the right place for help!

    Thank you for the welcome Janet (and happy early birthday) I have removed a lot of the unhealthy foods from our home, but Hubby loves his chips & dip. He's down to 275, since June....."maybe you should try my diet!" (said sarcastically with lightning bolts coming out my eyes!!!!!!) MEN.

    Anyway......I do love Laughing Cow or Baby Bele cheese. Fruit and Yogurt too. Even our unhealthy snacks are low sodium. Had a bit of a setback last night. Wings, Fries, Onion Rings & Beer for dinner. Needless to say my weight is up a bit this morning. Gotta go take the dog for is morning walk.

    Beth Aleve works for me, but can't take it regularly, I get covered in bruises if I use Aleve regularly. :'( Hope the rainy/windy day is a bonus for decluttering and puttering--my favorite past time.

    Had a rare night out with DH and a friend to see Wanda Sykes (funny :p ). Fun maybe because it doesn't happen so often?

    Back to a restorative Saturday, it will have to mostly be indoors, today we have high winds, rain and cold--perfect to staying indoors and gets some rest--perhaps a nap?

    All-intrigued by the yogurt idea. Yogurt is one of my staples and we buy a lot of it. Will have to do some math to see if it is worth it-I buy big tubs from Costco, but Costco is a hike and a once-a-month thing.

    NYKAREN: I love Wanda Sykes-she is freakin’ hilarious-glad you got a night out!

    Cindy: I’m curious too! Which Ontario?

    Lisa: You have a great attitude about all this. I get what you say about the interim CEO having a job to do, but she seems to be going about it the wrong way! The whole thing about the program director being assigned to the small office with no communication is ridiculous and short-sighted. If you want someone to leave, just do it-don’t force them to quit by not giving them the tools to do their job!! I hope the rental house is rented out soon! It would be nice to not have the pressure financially!

    Heather: I’m so happy that things are progressing so well with your move! But very sad about your friend.

    Rebecca: so nice to see the pictures of your boys! What a handsome crew!

    Things are good here. Puppy can now be crated for a few hours so DH and I can do things like go to the grocery store together! He will also be going to doggy daycare a couple days a week-he LOVES it because he loves all other dogs and loves people. He was so tired after his first day on Thursday. It’s not cheap, but worth it. He just gets cuter and cuter

    Research has been showing that controlling food and calories are the biggest part of weight loss and I have to agree. I haven’t been able to work out consistently at all, but if I track my food and stay at or under my calorie goal, I continue to lose. That being said, I’m starting back with personal training on Monday and am looking forward to it-it really helps with my mood and I feel much stronger.

    Love love love all the photos of gardens, families and pets!! And, of course, all the pictures of you beautiful women!!!

    Elizabeth: That is one cute puppy! Glad he loves to be around other dogs. My Pom hates most dogs he encounters but loves people.

    Alison: Please listen to the good advice that so many others have given you. I really think that If you keep insinuating yourself into Tom and Elena's life it is just going to end up making for more unhappiness. You have wonderful friends and just remember that we are all here for you.

    Very damp cold and windy here today. Grandson has a lacrosse game at 3 today and I just don't know if I can stand to sit out in it for an hour.

    Lisa- Been reading your posts (and blog posts) about work and the interim boss/manager. What I know of you, I know you to be a person who ponders what was said, then sets her jaw, and does what is best for her. I love that about you, and I know you will take the pressure and crapola that this woman fed you and use it to spur you onto something wonderful; either with this same company or with some one else. Deep breaths, and remember we are beside you giving you support! <3
    Heather- So sorry to hear of your friend, Shirley. I do remember her (and your escapades together) from your book. My brother in law had ALS as a thirty year old, dementia wasn't a part of it, but the inability to move, care for himself, and communicate made it seem like he wasn't "there". Maybe dementia is a part of ALS when your older. It sounds odd, but I would almost hope that some one ISN'T all "there" mentally when their body and ability to communicate fails. Too be perfectly clear headed and trapped in a body that doesn't work or speak would be nightmarish. :'( Sending love to you as you deal with life, friendships, and moving to a new place. I am sure it sets your emotions on high! <3

    Rebecca- I am sure your boys appreciate you traveling so that they can spend some time together. AND I think brothers bond and make memories just as easily playing video games as doing something active. Enjoy these days of hearing their voices, together and laughing, in your home.
    Suebdew- Omigoodness! So many butterflies! I see some Queen Butterflies in with your Monarchs. They are the ones with just a dark outline, and white spots on their wings. The males will have two black spots on the lower wing vein. I love to think of all of these butterflies stopping to eat as much as they can to continue their journey into central/South America. Your roses look beautiful!
    Cindy- Welcome! I too am a chip lover. I don't buy them but am married to a man who loves his "snacks". I make him keep them in his office, so I am not even tempted. One other thing that I have had to change in my routine is tv. I work all day, so I tend to sit for an hour or two at night and watch a movie or tv show. THAT is when I tend to snack. This week, I am actually getting rid of the couch I sit on and the tv! lol Extreme; maybe. But the couch is old and needs to go anyway, as is the old box tv. I don't plan to replace either.

    Had a nice time at uncle's visitation. Lots of photos, memories, and family. THEN, had a nice evening with hubby (that's all I will divulge) >:) . Time for me to get moving. I borrowed one of my daycare parent's Instant Pot and I am making my yogurt today while I work in the yard! I can smell the spices that she uses to cook with and am thinking my yogurt might taste a little "savory". We will see how this works out. ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)

    Cindy - welcome from me, as well... and family sabotage is about as real as it gets for so many of us. My husband cooks for us, and it took some serious education when I began this year's journey as to what I'd be willing to eat. He works at a physically demanding job, often in the heat, and burns every calorie he takes in and then some, and loves high-fat meats, gravies, and junk food. I work at a sedentary job, and unfortunately, brain work doesn't burn calories worth a tee-diddly. I've told him what chips I hate (Fritos, sour cream and onion anything and barbecue) so those are the ones he buys for his lunches, and so on. He's been amazing, and genuinely tries to keep me in mind. When he cooks something I shouldn't or won't eat, which is seldom, I generally eat a bowl of oat bran for dinner, which keeps me on the straight and narrow.

    However, our son is living with us until sometime up in the spring, and my 25-year-old boychild is a sugar addict, and one who's trying to put on weight. Much like Kelly did with her hubby, I told him to put all the sugary and fatty snacks in his own room, which I wouldn't enter on a bet, and keep them out of my sight!

    Kelly - thanks for the comments, both here and on the blog. You always make me think!

    Elizabeth - that is one sweet puppy. Makes me want a dog again. Stop that. :smiley: We can't get a dog until we get the fences all repaired, as I utterly refuse to put one on a chain. Thanks for the comments on the boss. I'm in a peaceful place about it right now, and honestly, have survived much worse situations. In the end, resilience will win out, whether here or elsewhere.

    Time to hippity-hop in the shower--got things worked out so that I can stay in this hotel instead of switching to another one today, so that makes me happy. Got things to do, and all involve indulgences like museums and other things that I'd have to drag my family through, but since I'm on my own, I can go do what I choose.

    Felicia: I’ve been taking Vitamin D3 for many years. I take more in winter and less in summer. I’m told this is a common need among people who have summer birthdays. I have taken up to 5 daily in the darkest part of winter. Now I take one every day that is a higher dose than those I took in the past. I hope you find a happy balance that keeps you feeling good all year. :star:

    Pip: I have a rug on my living room floor that is a twin to the one in the photo of your dogs, although it still has a fringe on the ends. I love my rugs. :heart:

    Kelly. Ack! I hope the silicone seal doesn’t transfer savory flavor to your yogurt. I have a silicone ring for making yogurt only. And another silicone ring for savory dishes. I will never make a cheese cake in the instant pot because everyone tells me how amazing they turn out—-I do not need amazing cheesecake in my life!!!

    Everyone is listing great strategies for keeping trigger foods out of the house or out of sight—it is such good advice. Another strategy for me is to make sure I eat regularly so I am not tempted when walking past lousy food choices—snack and dessert tables and yes, buckets of candy at work :#

    I do a few things to keep nighttime snacking at bay mostly because I eat at night time.

    1. I do 19:5 fasting which means I only have five hours during the day which I allow myself to eat. I eat after 3 PM until 8 PM.
    2. I eat a keto diet high in fat and protein. That keeps my body feeling full and satisfied.
    3. I exercise in the morning and drink a lot of water during the day.

    You don't burn a lot of fat or calories during the night. My calories and fat burning happens during and after exercises. Mainly because I do strength building exercises.

    I have a stated goal to have fun every day. There are loads of things that are fun—starting with yoga classes three times a week. I volunteer on a community advisory committee, ride a horse that belongs to a good friend, and DH & I have started having RV adventures. Staying in touch with the ladies in this group is also an important part of feeling connected.

    I will be glad when Halloween is over. I have a bowl of candy that I raid every now and then. 😬

    Long time traveling yesterday, even though I didn't do the driving, I do try to make it fun! Engaging in conversation starters, my husband can talk politics all day! Then he doesn't whine about the long drive. Then I don't feel so guilty about not driving. There is a method to my madness! 6 hours on the road wasn't the fun part of the day! Getting into Tacoma and wandering around was! Then son got out his phone and was offering suggestions that got us into the correct part of town.

    Getting to know my daughter in law over the years, our meetings now aren't as stilted. She is about 2 months along, and her due is May 11th. No morning sickness to speak of and she isn't really showing. Dear husband brought up the subject of if they were still keeping their dogs after the baby is born. Sheesh! He has not a clue about pet emotional attachments. They both kind of gave him a duh! look. I defused the situation with a conversation about all the great videos showing dogs meeting babies etc! Both their dogs are great fetchers, so I can see this baby learning to throw their toys out of their playpen and the dogs fetching and dropping it back. Built in play pal for both dogs and baby!

    After all the rain yesterday, its bright blue today. Have to head to commissary and need eldest son to help pay for it. I asked him last night, and he decided on an amount limit, which I can work with. He had said no more than $200. At the time I had $80 worth listed on my list. So I'm glad son isn't bent outta sorts with my asking for his help. I try to make treats for him, with notes saying Eat This! He gets 2-3 meals a week from me. Plus baking stuff. Is that worth him paying for a shopping run now and then, I hope he thinks so. Our arrangement has had no snares whatsoever since we moved in last April.👍

    Thank you my friends for your support over my childhood friend. Of course I have been thinking about her all day.

    We have been very busy preparing for the move, mainly labelling furniture for rooms, sorting out garage and shed stuff and I've been packing the things we want to take with us in the car, like bedding. Plus a couple of plates, pans etc so we don't have to unpack immediately. A box for cleaning stuff , a box for food. Etc etc. Lots of planning. I'm taking a frozen chilli to have the first night with microwave grains, so I'll have a freezer box ready.
    The guys are packing up most of it on Monday, so we will be parking the car next door so the big lorry can get in.. My cleaner is coming in the afternoon and we will go round together. On the Tuesday the slightly smaller lorry will come and get the rest. We have designated a corner of the living room that they are to leave alone for our car to transport. I'm packing a suitcase in case I can't find anything to wear! ! Must put the hoovers in the pile.
