I’m on day five (doing a 10 day AF challenge until Thanksgiving) I am also grumpy and my kids driving me nuts lol.
We had friends in town for the weekend. Starting Friday night....that went well with AF. Saturday they wanted to investigate the area with us in tow. They ended up searching for a winery(ugh). It was very beautiful and they had superb cheeses but they wanted to do wine tasting. I said I was not into wine and would pass, but they felt offended and said oh just try a sip. So I bent and sipped some even though I think wine is horrible. So instead of my Thanksgiving drink I guess I just had that Saturday and will AF with my turkey dinner. Wish I could have had more of a supportive reaction when I wanted to pass on the tasting. At least I stopped there as the three of them kept drinking for the next 9 hours.
Feeling blessed with at least keeping within my drinking limits👼

Day six of my 10 day thanksgiving challenge. So far it’s been easy to not drink and stay within calories and get intense workouts in but unfortunately the scale hasn’t been budging. Boo!5

Haha thanks @MissMay yes day six - today is first day I would really like to have a glass of wine and watch football. But oh well! I’ll save myself the calories and make some sort of flavored sparkling water3 -

Hello,
I am returning to this thread, need the motivation and common goals to reduce or be af.

I’m in. I’ve gained weight since I started drinking again about 8 months ago and I need to get back to an AF lifestyle.3

Made it through the weekend AF. It's always a challenge but the weekend is nearly over. In my cupboard I had half a bottle of vodka and one of apple smucker for apple martinis. I thought I would hold onto it in case I had guests over for the holiday...then I thought...hmph... if guests come, I don't HAVE to offer them alcohol. So I poured the bottles out. One more temptation out of my house. Just like when you get rid of cookies and chips when you start cleaning up your eating habits.... out with the booze... in with the Le Croix!9

I did not make it through the weekend. I started off on Saturday feeling motivated to work out, go to a support group I attend on occasion, make a grocery list, meal plan...for some reason while I was getting my nails done my mood shifted and I went to the store to get cider and junk food instead. Sat home, drank and ate, and by midnight was feeling *kitten*-thinking about how this was stupid and I didn't accomplish anything.
I woke up Sunday with an improved mood and I'm hoping I can keep my motivation up this week. Thanksgiving won't be an issue, because my family doesn't drink. My biggest struggle is the weekends, because my SO works weekends so I'm by myself. I need to plan better.
I woke up before work this AM and worked out, I want to make that a habit. I feel less likely to drink if I know I worked hard and would ruin my progress. I have to lose this alcohol weight-my pants are too tight!
Hope you all had a great weekend!6 -
Wine free weekend ✔️- it was actually easy except for yesterday evening. I just wanted a great glass of Cab and curl up and watch the game. But I distracted myself by planning for a big upcoming trip to Spain. I wish the wine free week translated to weight loss.4

@SanDiegofitmom Intense workouts mean your muscles hold onto water to heal, repair, and grow stronger. It's part of DOMS - Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness.
Also, make sure you're having a rest day after an intense workout. You need that so your body gets stronger in the rest/heal process.

Writing is one of the ways that not drinking has made me more productive and creative.
I wrote on my blog about less alcohol and my going over 9 months so far.

@Orphia You're going to have to be more shameless than that. I would love a link to your blog.0 -

Thanks @orphia - I definitely feel the water retention in my body. I try to constantly change things up - weights, running and plyos. I love using an app called Aaptiv that does amazing audio workouts. Still even if I don’t see scale movement. I know the lack of alcohol is definitely making my liver happy 😃

Tonight’s the last night of the 10 day no wine challenge I had for myself. Overall it was good! My hubby still drank several nights but he is a moderate craft beer drinker and I’m not tempted by beer. My weight loss goals were not as low as I hoped but I actually think it’s more due to water retention from very intense workouts. I do look forward to planned wine tomorrow for Thanksgiving. But after that I think I’m going to do another 10 day challenge with 1-2 planned drinking days for date nights.
Hope everyone has a Happy and safe thanksgiving3 -
I don't know how it happened but I don't take alcohol anymore. I just can't explain it, somehow, magically I woke up one morning and realized that drinking the liquor is a waste of time. So, my goal automatically was achieved5

MFP don't like people posting links to your own blog/site. They say it's because you might profit from it, not that I am! They don't mind it if someone else posts your link, just not the owner of the site.
I sent you a PM with the link.

Hope our American friends all had a nice Thanksgiving.
Don't beat yourself up if you had a few drinks to celebrate.4 -
Hi! Thank you Orphia. I had a nice Thanksgiving, just ate too much, of course. Today is day 16 AF for me! I am so proud of myself. Yesterday wasn’t hard at all as my husbands family where we went don’t drink. Yesterday was exactly 2 weeks, too. Hope everyone is well! Have a good weekend all!5

Took a little break from the internet during the past week. Holiday went well. Dinner out so not all day eating of left overs. And only had a hot coffee with hazelnut liqueur in it at dinner time.
This month will be my driest month ever since January 2018. I can claim I drank total in one month, what would be a "normal drinking DAY" for me. Before I started serious alcohol moderation.
Congrats to everyone keeping it under control either with AF or mindful drinking practices. Let's get through the end of the year with success and gratification.
Cheers to all of us! 🍵5 -

That’s awesome! I’ve been having wine in moderation since Thanksgiving. Monday I will kick off another challenge for myself, wine, calories and exercise all included. I find the challenges really appeal to my competitive side3 -

I am also doing another challange - the Say no to late night snacking. Very helpful thread
Welcome both @dommylifts and @anglilacs. If you pop over to page one at the very beginning of this thread there is a ton of helpful information put out by @Orphia to assist you on this less alcohol journey.
Glad you are here.😊

Thank you! I went almost a month without drinking and had a large binge. Since the binge (20th) I’ve had at least one drink every night. My goal is no alcohol as I dislike how I feel! I’m excited for the accountability in this group.2

Just a little comparison as to where I was and where I am.
I think it was 2016 Thanksgiving day. Woke up early to watch the TD parade. Hubby took the cork out of the champagne and we began drinking at 8:45am. In between watching the parade I was getting dinner started because it had to cook most of the day (drank the bottle dry). After the parade we went out to a friends pub to spread the holiday greeting and of course to drink more(probably several strong cocktails). At 3:00pm our dinner was ready to come out of the oven(opened another bottle of champagne). I was so pie eyed I skipped making mashed potatoes because they seemed way beyond what I could do at that point. I don't remember eating, but my husband took a picture of me sprawled out on the sofa DURING dinner time.
That was only one of the many times I regret out of control drinking.
I have come slowly to the level of alcohol awareness I am at now. And it is so much nicer to remember an entire day than to look at a photo of myself passed out not remembering any of it.
Thankful for this thread.6 -
"Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference."
Just found out that my drunken ex-son-in-law across the street gave my 14 year old grandson a [small] Brandy Alexander over the holiday. Where in the above prayer does that fall ?? My initial response was gratitude that I was far from home and my loaded shotgun...
Now calmer, there seems nothing can be done without creating a multi-state family drama and entirely upsetting my grandson's life.
Ex-SIL and I have a distant but cordial relationship, probably because I've never confronted him about his nightly drinking til falling down drunk.
He is not an alcoholic, he just gets a little buzz on, no harm. No reasoning with that attitude.
On day 161 AF, and will have 162 tomorrow, in spite of the things I cannot change. Thanks for being out there in the ether and allowing me to vent to maybe someone who can empathize.5 -
Really not being judgemental and alarmist, alcoholism runs rampant on both sides of my grandson's family tree, and I don't want it to continue with him.
Many of us here had a first "taste" of alcohol as teenagers without harm, but why tempt fate ?? Or invite the Devil in on purpose ??5
