Heather: I am impressed with your organizing. We haven’t moved in 20 years and don’t plan to move any time soon. When we moved here, we had both homes at once for a while, so we brought stuff here bit at time. The only things done by movers were the transport of my mom’s piano and the refrigerator. The distance was about 45 miles. We would need to hire movers if we ever move from here because of my husband’s health situation. :ohwell: It is so good to see that you’re in a place that makes you happy. Yay!!! :star:

Linda in N Ontario: I hope your foot heals swiftly. It is sure good to see you posting again. :star:

Kate UK: My daughter in Illinois just got a rescue dog of mixed heritage from Tennessee. He seems to have a bit of Pitbull in his family tree and is settling in well.

Lanette, Evie, & Margaret: Thanks for the idea of the grumpy old men audition. It put a smile on my face. I’ll remember it for the next appropriate occasion.

Allie: Good luck with the request for a raise. I hope they treat you right. :star:

Michelle: I’ve had cranberry jelly, but I don’t remember ever eating a fresh cranberry. If you try one, let us know what you think. :flowerforyou:

Dana: I love the paintings that you shared. There are some great examples of western art at the Bufflo Bill Cody Museum in Sheridan, WY. There are also artifacts, & weapons along with the art and other items. I would go there again if we travel that direction. :star:

Alison: Bullies are unpleasant & not quite right in the head, IMHO. Have you talked to the higher ups? :grumble:

Lisa: You seem happy. YAY!!!! You’ve earned every good thing.

Barbara: My Medicare plan says Hospital part A and Medical part B. The fees seem to go up annually. Medically, I’m a cheap date but DH is not. I have two prescriptions, and neither is expensive. I take quite a few supplements at my own cost. My health insurance plan also pays for my gym membership. DSIL has a medicare plan through United Health Care that also pays for a gym membership. :flowerforyou:

    Sharon: I hope your upcoming surgery goes well and gives you the results you need. :star;

Lisa: Congratulations! I hope your new job is a great fit and you are able to settle in for the long term. :flowerforyou:

Penny: Love the mental imagery you shared regarding Lisa’s job situation.

Sue: Sending good thoughts your way. Your volunteer job teaching swimming at the Y is perfect for you. They are so lucky that you are available! I hope the chemo does the job for your DH. :star:

Michelle: This year Thanksgiving was breaking my heart because our kids are so far away. DSIL invited us, but DH has such an exacting dietary situation that it wasn’t wise to go. Instead we invited our niece to share the day with us. We’ll be having Thanksgiving on her day off. We expect that it will be just her and her significant other, but maybe her youngest son will be along. He is also on a FODMAP diet, and our food would be just right for him. It breaks my heart that we can’t share the day with our children, but it isn’t feasible. Christmas last year was lonely, and I expect it will be lonely again this year. The good news is that we have one another. :star::heart:

Mary from Ontario, Canada: I am glad you are finally feeling better. I love your Happy thanksgiving message.

I have empty humming bird feeders and need to get out of the computer room and fill bird feeders. I hope you all have a great day.

The blind man came and gave us an estimate. Very expensive! DH had completely forgotten the price we paid for the blind in our old bedroom. I hadn't. It was as much as these three blinds put together. I explained to DH that I could buy cheaper ones on Amazon, but he would have to take responsibility for the measuring and put them up. He soon decided he would rather have the expensive blinds! I think we will go with that. We will have to replace the main window itself before next summer as it doesn't open. As it is west facing I think it will get hot in the evening!

Happy Thanksgiving for tomorrow for all you folks in the the US. I am fortunate to have so many friends across the pond. I will be thinking of you tucking into your turkey. :o

I ordered our artificial Christmas tree today. This year DDIL has asked for clothes for the girls' presents. I will also buy them a fun small thing. Max wants a "game" . I'm glad because last year was an overload of plastic toys that I was not happy about. They have so many toys! This year DDIL has a war on plastic. :D

I asked for a bike from DH , but he did not look pleased. I found some second hand, reconditioned ones from a bike hire shop that would suit me, but I think he is feeling poor at the moment. :'( He may come round.

    Love Heather UK xxxxxxx

Well, all the recipes I found for fudge (including the Fantasy Fudge one) say to use a candy thermometer. Guess that's something I need to buy.

Allie, I'm glad that you wrote that note to Mary, if for no other reason that she now knows that you are aware of what she is up to. SHE gave you the hours?? Oy......
Barbie, the soap opera comparison cracked me up! lol You are absolutely right, never a dull moment on those shows! So very glad I have stopped watching them, don't miss it, don't bother with any reality shows on a regular basis either. Will watch "Say Yes to the Dress" or "My 600 lb Life" every once in awhile and have watched a few seasons of "The Voice". The "banter" between Adam Levine and Blake Shelton started getting to me tho, too much time was spent on it, time that should have been on the performers, in my opinion.
Michele, you don't really need a candy thermometer, it does make it easier to judge the temp, but I always just used the soft ball method. Mind you, my fudge didn't always turn out great.... tasted good, but was often grainy, which I now know is because of scraping down the sides of the pot. Now I don't make it, I would eat too much of it!
Katla, you are absolutely right! You do have each other! It's unfortunate that hubby's sister doesn't believe that his food issues are a real thing, sounds like it would be a wonderful fit if your niece and her family joined you tho! I'm sure they would all be more comfortable knowing that the food would be safe for her son to eat with no after effects.
Went to the gym and did my intervals on the treadmill again. Not quite as easy feeling as yesterday, apparently I did work a few new muscles yesterday, but that's okay, I was still on there for 48 min, 400 cals worth, so that was good. Then spent some time on the TRX, found out my fitbit has an interval timer on it, goes 30 sec at a time, with about 10 sec in between to rest, or in my case, change positions. I really like the timing, can use it for so many things, but it only goes for 28 "moves", where I would prefer it would just keep going til I shut it off. That way, I could do my exercises and stretches without having to re-start it a few times. Oh well, first world problems! Laundry is folded, well, except for the load that just came out of the dryer, so I think I'm going to see if hubby wants to go up to Home Depot and look at some chicken wire! Oh we live such an exciting life! lol
Hugs to those needing them, congrats to those celebrating and welcome to any newbies!

    Hi Gals,

Busy day, worked this morning – first time in a garden since the Camp Fire started, we finally have breathable air 😊 It started to rain, finally! So I worked in the greenhouse, which needed my attention too… then home to meet with clients, and to cook! Just taking a dinner break with you all. More cooking to do, and somewhere I need to find time to do some more embroidery, I have taken on extra jobs as the gardening was not an option, and the bills are still there.

Hope everyone has a great American Thanksgiving – even if for you it’s just a random Thursday!

I am still a bit dreading Thanksgiving, with the family drama – but did have a talk with my Mom yesterday and while I think my communication is clear – maybe even too blunt, this time I think she really “heard” me that I was not just getting lip service. She is a person who can talk without taking a breath for many many minutes – then say nice to talk to you, Bye- and you may have never said anything since “Hello”

    Family what an adventure.

    November Gratitude’s
    1. Smell = clean dog
    2. Technology = smart phone
    3. Color = sunrise
    4. Food = herbal tea
    5. Sound = silence, but heard the coyotes talking, and loved hearing them
    6. Nature = the waves
    7. Memories = I think one of my favorite memories, is a conglomerate of memories – in the summer when I was a kid – Dad and I would go out to the grass to “pull weeds” we would pull a few, but really we would look at the clouds and point out the things we saw, or make up stories about were the airplanes were going overhead, who was in them… We were not in a flight path but way way high you would see a plane occasionally. And sometimes a small plane those were even more fun to make up stories about.
    8. Book – oh so many I love – but the harry potter series as my god-son and I got them together and read them and talked about them almost every night
    9. Place – I think the Grand Canyon – I did a 10 day rafting trip down the river for my 50th birthday and it was a life changing event and helped me grow and believe in myself enough to face coming home and being laid off 10 days later.
    10. Taste – sweet or salty – for me it is always sweet! But favorite taste is my mom’s marinara sauce with meatballs, it cooks all day, and I could smell it from the corner of our street and knew one of my favorite dinners was that night
    11. Holiday – tough one, I have a love of Christmas but it is also the day I was beaten by my domestic abuser so it has mixed memories…
    12. Texture – I love cashmere
    13. Abilities – I’m very thankful for my abilities – I think the one that comes to mind right now is planning, I can look ahead and figure out how to plan out things that need to be done to make the most of the time and money available.
    14. Sight- my god daughter smiling at me…
    15. Season- I love them all – it’s winter so it is my favorite right now.
    16. Body – I have great thick hair with very little “grey” and actually the “grey” is mostly white, my paternal grandma had beautiful white hair… here’s hoping
    17. Knowledge - I think the knowledge that I am in charge of setting boundaries to keep me physically and mentally safe, and how to do it…. I don’t always remember to do it, but I do know how.
    18. Art – I have always loved Monet, I read somewhere that he was very nearsighted and his soft focus style was because he painted what he saw – and if that is true it makes complete sense to me as without my glasses my world is the world of Monet. My favorite of his is Water Lilies – probably because when I was in England it was at the National Gallery in London. I spent a lot of time there and always started and ended my visit with 5-10 minutes in front of that picture. I would sit in a slightly different place and just look at it – I never tired of it and it always had just a bit of a different look.
    19. Touch – So Ok I know I spoil Levi, but yes my 55lb dog sleeps with me – so the touch is Levi always in the morning, but sometimes in the night if he is really cold or I have a bad dream, he’ll reach over and set his paw on my shoulder or give my cheek this little gentle kiss….
    20. Person in your life – I’m going to say my best girl friend Lynne, we’ve been friends since college and have stayed closest friends for all this time.
    21. Song – I’m not much into music, as I am partially tone deaf – So the lyrics are important but the music or beat are pretty much a mystery to me. That being said, Helen Reddy’s I am woman has always felt like it was my theme song.
    22.

3.4 km walk to the radiology clinic for MRI on brain ... and back.

    That was my lunch break.

However, on the way back, I stopped in at an OP shop and picked up "The Secret Garden" and a few 'easy listening' relaxing CDs.

I have actually put "Rest" on my calendar!! It's after my TMJ procedure and my specialist told me I'd likely need to rest that evening, but nevertheless ...

    Go Willow!!!!!

Evelyn – so many times I’ve made fudge and it’s NEVER turned out as good as the stuff you buy in the store. So I’m going to try the candy thermometer. Maybe that’s what I really need. Made a pie for Vince, wasn’t sure why you needed to bake it since there were only sweetened condensed milk, chocolate chips and vanilla. But it did come out fudgy. I’d probably make this again. Sounds like your life is an exciting as mine….lol I have this app on my phone that has intervals. I can set it for quite a few series of intervals, not sure how many since I’ve never gone that high.

Put out more Christmas decorations. Vince put the lights on some of the “fence”. We put out the extension cords.

Barbie – thanks so much for sharing all the side effects Jake had with his chemo. I honestly thought that the only side effect was nautiousness

Katla – Waiting to hear how your MRI went.

    Happy Thanksgiving Eve!

My DH and went shopping early this morning and bought too many pies and cookies for just us, but we won’t have to shop for a while. I bought a sweet potato pie which I love! It’s a southern thing and if you haven’t had one try it! My grandma used to make them and it brings back memories!

I made cornbread stuffing today with onion and celery. I just have to bake it in the mornjng. I bought a turkey breast so it won’t take long to bake it. I prefer one of those since it’s just my DH and me. I’m going to fix mashed potatoes and gravy and peas. I was going to fix a salad but there was an ecoli scare so I thru it out. Even though I ate half of it I don’t want to push my luck!!

Rori I love cranberries too. I get the dried kind for salads. So tasty!! Thanks for the tips.

Heather Yes blinds are expensive installed. I had custom faux wood blinds put in the entire house when we first bought our house. I don’t have really do love them. They will last for many years to come and they look so nice from the street too.

Katla next time I’m in Cheyenne visiting my oldest daughter I’ll have to drive to see the William Cody Museum. That’s would be really fantastic to see it. I have seen the museum west of Denver where his grave is. You can see the Kansas border from the mountain top! He wanted to be buried there.

Willow I know how the fog is. I take Gabapentin for nerve pain and sometimes, more than others, it drives me crazy! I can’t even think of words I want to spit out! Ugh!!

Michelle you don’t need a candy thermometer for marshmallow fudge. You melt the chocolate chips and store the marshmallow cream into it. Very simple. Add vanilla and nuts and that’s it!

My daughter Jessica who lives in Panama City went by her house today to check on things there and there was a big red sign taped to the door. UNSAFE it read. Great. The house needs so much work. Now the city posted a sign. She sent me a picture of it.
    kamgjqp2a78p.jpeg
She’s been in a condo for a month and only has half the amount of work. Then she heard her ex just got a DUI! Great!
He keeps doing more and more dumb things. If he loses his job she won’t get child support. Oh dear!! Too many worries!

She’s driving to St Pete to stay with friends for the weekend. I hope she enjoys herself! I’ll miss her coming up here and I’ll miss the kids too.

Gratitude, a song that I’m grateful for? https://youtu.be/r5L6QlAH3L4. I love this song! It grounds me.

    I hope y’all have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

My sister-in-law posted this and I thought it was good ...

    lkzkyg4kxd5w.png

    Nov 1 - smell. My roses. :)
Nov 2 - technology. Social media and staying connected with family and friends.
Nov 3 - colour. Blue. The blue of the mouth of the river/bay/start of the ocean out my window. The blue of the sky. My new blue sleeping top that was nice and comfy last night.
Nov 4 - food ... cheese. I ate a lot of grilled cheese sandwiches when my husband was in hospital. They were my comfort food. Also cheese has calcium which I think I need. Unfortunately, cheese does tend to be a bit high in calories so I shouldn't eat too much of it. But anything cheese-y is comforting. :)
Nov 5 - sound. I like listening to the waves and the birds, but I think the sound I'm most grateful for today is my husband's voice. Just the fact that we can talk to each other again. :)
Nov 6 - "What in nature are you grateful for?" ... That's hard to narrow down to one thing. Oxford dictionary describes nature as "the phenomena of the physical world collectively, including plants, animals, the landscape, and other features and products of the earth". I am grateful for all of it. I find that getting out into any sort of nature helps to relieve stress.
Nov 7 - "What memory are you grateful for?" ... Another one with so many choices!!! Recently, I've been grateful for two memories. 1) June 2017 ... my husband and I had a wonderful visit to Canada and did several things to make great memories ... hiking, cycling, visiting my family. I clung onto those memories during the months he was in hospital. 2) When I was 9 years old, my family moved away from where my grandmother lived. One of of the last days there, my grandmother took me to her window and showed me a full moon outside. She told me that on every full moon, we could both look at it and know that even though we were far apart, we were both looking at the same moon. That's a memory which has stuck with me all these years, and every time I see a full moon, I think of my grandmother. She's 97 years old ... but not doing so well ... so I've been thinking of her a lot. And I've also been very glad that my husband and I were able to see her when we visited Canada in June 2017.
Nov 8 - "What book are you most grateful for?" That's easy ... The Bible. :)

I've enjoyed reading all your memories. :)
Love the discussion about books! :)

Nov 9 - "What place are you most grateful for?" This is not an easy one for me because I don't have the sense of "home" that many people have. I've moved too much for that.
So ... I've had to give this one some thought. What place?
    Well ...
I'm grateful for our current house. It's comfortable enough. It's not very big so it's fairly easy to manage. And it has a great garden which my husband has been able to work in since returning home from his accident. It is also close to a couple beaches, which is nice. :)
Nov 10 - Taste! Hmmm ... salt. In the "Do you crave sweet or salty" discussion, I fall on the "salty" side.
As it happens, I have a diminished sense of taste and smell for whatever reason, so I divide foods into the basic tastes: sweet, salty, sour or bitter, and from there it's harder to distinguish precise flavours. Although, I do seem to have some odd tastes like, for example, meat and tomato taste metallic to me, and I don't like that. If I salt them well, the metallic taste goes away and they taste salty, which is OK.
Then, one of the side effects of my husband's accident is that he has lost most of his sense of taste and smell. He has regained a little bit, and they say it should return very gradually. But he'll comment that dinner has no flavour, and I'll think, "It just tastes salty to me. Is there supposed to be more flavour than that?"
Nov 11 - What holiday are you grateful for? Christmas!!! :)
I've always loved Christmas. I even picked up 3 Christmas CDs yesterday. I like having a decent amount of time off ... not just one day ... so I can get things done. I like all the decorations. I like the music. I like the services and celebrations.
Nov 12 - Texture. Smooth. Very, very smooth. Clothing with no texture. Textured clothing is unwearable. Smooth clothing is good.
Nov 13 - Abilities. Right now, it would have to be organisation. While I feel like I'm in the midst of a chaotic whirlwind (and have been for the past 8 months) and I don't feel very organised, surprisingly enough, stuff is getting done.
Maybe I should include things like endurance and tenacity ... "skills" I've honed from my long distance cycling carrying over to "real life".
Nov 14 - Sight. What sight am I grateful for? The ever-changing view out the window of our house looking over the bay and the surrounding hills. Right now it's all grey and misty but it still looks good.
Nov 15 - Season. The season I am most grateful for is summer. I love summer. I'd love it if the year were divided so that there was 1 month of winter, 1 month of spring, 2 months of autumn, and 8 months of real summer weather. We're coming into summer here and I appreciate each and every summer-like day.
Nov 16 - What about your body are you grateful for?
Sometimes I think ... "less and less" these days because I'm literally falling apart.
But ... I'm grateful for my legs which are one of my main methods of transportation.
Nov 17 - What knowledge are you grateful for? -- The tacit knowledge of cycling. Being able to ride a bicycle. It has taken me all over the world. It's how my husband and I met. It is stress relief. And it is part of my husband's healing process.
    https://www.brainline.org/blog/getting-back-bike/what-brain-derived-neurotrophic-factor-and-why-you-should-care
Nov 18 - What piece of art are you grateful for?
That's a difficult one. I've taken an Art History course, and enjoyed it very much. And I like going to galleries. But I haven't really felt a connection to any particular pieces.
However, the one that is probably my favourite piece is:
Umberto Boccioni, Dynamism of a Cyclist, 1913
    a2kfga9qpewz.png
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dynamism_of_a_Cyclist
Nov 19 - What touch are you grateful for?
My husband's hugs!! This was something I missed so much when he was in hospital!!
Nov 20 - Who in your life are you grateful for?
The obvious choice would be my husband, and I am grateful to have him in my life still. However, I have been very grateful for my parents who have been so supportive through the challenges this year.

Nov 21 - What song are you most grateful for?
My taste in music changes with my moods but I've been listening to this one a lot this year ...
    Jesus Loves Me
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=osWLvRlniNo

Nov 22 - What story are you most grateful for?

    The Christmas Story. :)

I have some of it memorised, and have done since I was about 6 years old. But I can hear it over and over.

Lin: It is good to see you, even if you’re here now and then rather than all the time. :star:

(((Michele))) I share some of what you feel. DS and DDIL will be visiting my daughter and her family for Thanksgiving. I am happy about that, but just a little sad that we can’t be there, too. :ohwell: We made plans to have my niece and her significant other over for Thanksgiving –on Saturday. My niece has to work on Thanksgiving Day. This will be good for all of us.

Meg: I am so happy that you stopped by. Happy Thanksgiving back-atcha! :flowerforyou:

Sue: HUGS for you and your DH. I hope his treatments go well.

Kim: I love your gratitudes. :star:

Michele: No MRI’s for us at this time. DH hasn’t had one in a couple of years, and for me it has been many years since I had my only one, a horrible experience. I will be happy if I never get another. :grumble:

Machka: I am also grateful for the Christmas Story. It gives me hope. :star:

I’ve had a good news day. My son and his family will be visiting my daughter and her family for Thanksgiving. I’m thrilled they will be together, but a little sorry that we won’t be there, too. Perhaps we'll be able connect by phone or skype. I’ll take the blessing of them connecting with one another. They haven’t been close for a long time. This is a step in the right direction. I'm happy that we will be celebrating Thanksgiving with our niece & her significant other on Saturday and I’m looking forward to the celebration with them.

Dana, our church choir sings that song; it's a good one.

Music is one of my joys, so it's really hard to choose only one song. My favorite is "The Sound of Silence." I like the original, but even the one by Disturbed sends chills down my spine. But gratitude needs a more inspirational song. Casting Crowns has several that I love. The song I'm grateful for is "Blessings" by Laura Story. It changed my perspective.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XQan9L3yXjc

I'll have to listen to the songs that have been posted here. :)
