Just stopping by to say hi to everyone. Busy with holiday stuff, so eating and exercise are a bit of catch as catch can. Got a 6 mile walk in yesterday. We’re supposed to be having some nice weather into the weekend. Trying to maintain mindful eating and minimize the holiday poundage. A few folks on my feed are doing push-up and planks challenge. Going to do that after New Years. Y’all be good!4

Hello folks! Lovely to check-in with you all. I have a nagging leg injury that has worsened since my Bursitis recovery - it's not the same pain at all but still painful nonetheless and has really derailed me and my feeble attempts to get 'back at it'. Couple that excessive inactivity with increased access to holiday foods and you can probably guess the outcome I am experiencing!!
Since it (the leg) seems to be marginally better again, I intend to see my physical therapist this week and see what he suggests. Cannot keep sitting around, that's for sure! And I have fallen behind on decorations and other holiday prep - but am taking in a few special events and visits which really lift the spirits.
My new plan is:
Seek advice from physio
Implement advice!
Do balance exercises daily, even if just for a few minutes
Walk daily and work on modestly extending time & stamina, again even if just for a few minutes
Streamline my holiday decorating etc and at least get the tree up by next weekend!

@BCLadybug888, I'm sorry to hear you've been struggling with leg issue. It sound like you have a great plan for moving forward from here, though: Good show.
Not lots going on here.
I'm a bit over half way through the Concept 2 Holiday Challenge (200k rowing machine or 400k stationary bike or a combination, between US Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve. I'm at 123,560 meters as of Saturday (combination of row+bike with the bike meters counting as half in there). Yesterday was a rest day, back at it later today. This isn't super hard, 40-45 minutes 6 days a week at moderate but energetic intensity. The main challenge is just staying on track consistently: I've done this several years, and early on I got behind one year. Catch up is really challenging, so now I try hard to stay on schedule!
I've got some medical stuff going on now, too, but not sure what it is (worried). I had blood tests, H. pylori test, chest/abdomen X-rays, all of which looked normal. (I guess that's good, though I was hoping for a simplistic diagnosis.) Over the next couple of weeks, I have chest and abdominal CT scans scheduled, so we'll see whether those shed any light. Meanwhile needing to take more meds than my usual minimal ones (for hypothyroidism, mostly), which I don't like. Oh, well.
Weather here keeps cycling between snow, freezing to sub-freezing temps, then back up into the 50s F (13-ish C). Typical for here in November/December . . . it likes to keep us guessing about suitable wardrobe.
Not having immediate family, I don't have much holiday frenzy, just a small bit of extra socializing with friends, which is nice.

Posting after a long time away. Anyway, my main source of exercise right now is walking. I got an opportunity to try a free 12 mile mission with Conquerer Challenges, so started with that today. Haven't done the CC before because each mission has an entry fee, but what a great concept! Maybe it will keep me motivated and perhaps I'll purchase future missions. The missions track your progress on a map, includes way-station "postcards", and at the end you get an actual medal. And the real benefit (beyond health) is the program goes toward planting a designated number of trees and collecting designated pounds of plastic ocean garbage based on the miles you walk/run/swim/row, etc. Lol - The one I really want to do is Hadrian's Wall because I'm such a Roman history buff, but that one is 90 miles long so it would take me awhile.3

Just finished my Conqueror Challenge for Machu Picchu. The goal was 12 miles and I actually did a little over 15. Pretty good for three days!5

I'm still plugging away at my Concept 2 Holiday Challenge, but only 10,632 meters to go by Christmas Eve, so I'm pretty confident I'll finish unless something drastic happens.
How is everyone else doing? Holiday fun or holiday stress? I hope more of the former than the latter!

I haven't checked in here since October 26th. It's good to see so many familiar names and some new members as well.
I continue to serve as my wife's caregiver. She's been in refraction (remission) for two years now, but she still requires someone to keep an eye on her. She's still pretty weak, physically. I drive her to medical and infusion appointments, prepare her daily meds and other assorted tasks as needed. She continues to drink, which is a source of constant irritation for me. I have resigned myself to the fact that this will never change.
Still fighting the weight gain. I haven't gotten back into a good routine of exercise and calorie control. Here's hoping the New Year provides a little extra incentive for me.

It's good to hear from you, @alteredsteve175. Your steadiness and generosity for your wife is exemplary: This is a long and hard road ( . . . as I have some inkling, from a somewhat adjacent but shorter road in my past).
I think you can and will re-find that healthier path. The "when" may be variable, but best balance is individual, eh?

General update:
I got through the Concept 2 Holiday Challenge again, around 13k over the 200k goal. Since some people (including people our age) log literally millions of meters, that's not objectively impressive, but it makes me happy to hit the basic goal again.
My medical weirdness continues. Feeling neither great nor horrid, have had chest & abdomen x-rays and CTs, H. pylori test, blood tests - nothing shedding light so far. Some additional worrisome stuff (in addition to the nighttime ribcage pain I've had for 6 weeks or so) in the last couple of days, haven't heard back from a call to my doctor's office earlier today about next steps. I don't like not knowing what's up.
Happily, I don't feel terrible. Maybe a little more fatigued than usual, but NBD.
Strange weather here, 40s-50s F (4-10 C). It should be freezing or below, typically, at this time of year, with maybe some snow. I got in a nice trail walk with a friend earlier this week, pleasanter in this vs. sloppy weather - that's a plus, at least.

@AnnPT77 Fighting an unnamed opponent is frustrating. I hope you get answers soon. As they say: comparison is the thief of joy and I think you did a wonderful job in the rowing challenge 🙂
My daughter announced her engagement over Christmas and they have set a wedding date for July 2024. So I now have a timeline for my weight-loss. All the treats are out of the house and I have one more "event"; a NYE get together to which I'll take bacon wrapped jalapenos and also a dessert (gingerbread trifle). Then it's time to buckle down!
Our weather is terrible. I'm used to x-country skiing every other day this time of year but we broke another high temp record yesterday that was 122 years old. We have absolutely no snow and my ski pass sits on my dresser, mocking me every time I walk past it. The other day we drove an hour to a small town at a higher elevation and did some skiing, but even their snow wasn't great. My dogs loved it though. And a poor day of skiing is still better than a good day in the house. Between walking with friends and walking my dogs I had over 15,000 steps yesterday, so there is that. Just not as much fun as skiing!
2024 is just around the corner and it's a clean page. How great is that?6 -

Happy belated New Year to you all, very much looking forward to 2024 and am optimistic I will be more successful than last year (net gain of 7 lbs, year over year).
Live & learn, right 😉? And I'm still here, not allowing myself to fully fall away, so that's something. I am hanging onto a loss since joining MFP August 2021 and hope to add to that significantly this year. Since I am still recovering from severe bursitis (out of nowhere last August) in my hip & subsequent fall/mild concussion, it has really brought home that I cannot take my good health for granted, and really must make more of an effort towards healthy eating AND moving.

Over the holidays I got the flu type A and then pneumonia.
Needless to say I did not have a weight gain and unlike a character in The Devil Wears Prada I am not celebrating illness to achieve weight loss.
Be aware that symptoms for those over 65 can be very different than for younger people. With the pneumonia I actually had my temperature drop and was so confused I couldn't put 2 thoughts together. Fortunately I have a friend who had the good sense to take me to the ER and I am finally on the mend.
