I hadn't checked back to this thread in a long time. Not sure why? I'm 67 and feel pretty good. Probably healthier than I was feeling back in my 20's-60. Took me way too long to treat myself right and worry about my own health.
Retired but keeping busy. Miss my job(some days) and the income but wouldn't trade it for free time.
Stay well everybody and enjoy your day!6 -

Congrats on your healthy lifestyle. Retired here too. Don’t miss the job at all (and I had a good gig!).

Glad to hear you're hanging in there, @alteredsteve175, despite the challenges, including those truly wilting/withering heat levels in your area. Hoping the onco appointment goes well for both of you - I'm sure there's hope and anxiety ahead of it.
On another front, I treated myself to a Covid test yesterday. I'm all vaxed, but was having a set of respiratory symptoms over a couple of days that included some things not typical of my annual seasonal allergies, so decided to go for a test out of an abundance of caution. (I'd profoundly hate to shrug it off, later learn I'd passed the virus to one of my friends who has health challenges!)
Being retired, it was easy (though a mild annoyance) to stay away from other folks until I got the test results, which were negative as I'd expected. Test itself was easy to schedule, done in a drive-through clinic at a former auto service facility, took less than a hour despite a bit of a line, and I never had to get out of my car. They'd said results could take 2-3 days, but I got them back just a bit over 24 hours after the test, via an online portal. Easy peasy, and relieved to have evidence I'm not creating risk for others (even though I was assuming it'd be negative).
Hope everyone else is having a great week!
Hey Ann, same deal with BH and myself. Fully vax’xed, but came down with some respiratory stuff (ie summer cold? Kinda odd, since we continue to mask and social distance). Got tested since we were soon off to visit new grand baby. Went to county site. No wait, and got our results in 5hrs. Happy Thursday!2 -
Thanks for the good wishes, all.
Unfortunately, wife's potassium levels were very low, even though she was not dehydrated. Oncologist sent her to the ER. They administered potassium intravenously and she was admitted to hospital for two or three days (I hope that's all) for observation. Now we will be monitoring her fluid intake and trying to get her to drink something with electrolytes in it.
The fun never ends. 😟8 -
I do hope she'll be home very soon @alteredsteve175 & stays well. It's always hot as hell during the summer here in central California. Fortunately this year it doen's feel too hot in our house. One of our sons put up new drywall in our kitchen last November & sprayed texture on it. It looks beautiful plus that part of the house wasn't insulated so it made a difference along with new window air conditioners & a barrier curtain in the pantry area that goes out to the backyard , so not complaints but the heat does take alot of energy out of me & I do take my dogs out every morning but it's already warm. I'm glad it's half over.I've been learning to be more creative with calories since mfp gives me low calories to lose weight since I don't have a lot more to lose but it's not easy & I'm still going over most days with a few successful days in between3

FWIW, if she likes sweets, a good brand of blackstrap molasses has a meaningful amount of potassium, tastes good in lots of things (oatmeal, smoothies, baked goods, etc.) - once she's home again.
It sounds like the hospital admission will be a good thing, out of caution. I know you'll be there with her a lot, but I'm hopeful it may give you a bit of chance to catch up on sleep when at home, or other such self-care. Sending strength and well-wishes to both of you!2 -

It's hot summer for you in the US, but it's winter for us here in Australia. We have tropical weather here in Queensland. I live on the tableland so it's 4 degrees cooler than in the city. It's hot and sweaty in the summer in the far north Queensland too. So, I prefer the cooler weather in our winter of cause. Take care everyone. 🌄5

And hello back.
I need to wrangle with the VA over a couple of issues. I’ve been putting it off. Sigh. But it needs doing.
Other than that? All is quiet on the home front. Which is exactly how we like it.1 -
Checking in.
Wifey is back home. All that hassle checking in and out of the hospital for one day. AARRGGHH! She's feeling better, though, and was alert and fairly coherent this morning.
I appreciate the kind thoughts and words, everyone. The frustration is overwhelming sometimes, and I let it show. Back to working on my "attitude of gratitude" today.
It's helpful to vent here, though. Helps me maintain what passes for sanity in my world. HAHA! 😁
It's inspiring to see you all keeping on. A good reminder that life goes on, regardless of our individual travails. Now I need someone to kick my *kitten* out of bed for early morning workouts. That's the one thing I need to get into the daily schedule.

Margaret.. Good luck with the VA. I put stuff off too that I need to do. Need to schedule my colonoscopy since sept of 2020 , waited for the pandemic to quiet down so need to do now cuz looking like we may be headed for delta variant issues now. Not looking forward to the prep as I worry about the prep making me dehydrated and passing out and feeling yucky. I will make appt on Monday, I had a positive cologuard test in 2020.. Enjoy your quiet home front!!5

I hadn’t been feeling great lately like feeling tired, achy and stomach upset and sore throat. I’m vaccinated but wanted to get tested just to be sure I was ok and could go to work. I did a rapid test at an urgent care and got results in an hour. I was negative thank God. So I feel reassured and can now visit my 90 yr old mom wearing a mask. I’m less worried now. I can also better focus on MFP.7

Hey Steve! Vent away and hang in there!

Lots of luck with the VA. My husband is in the midst of claims from agent Orange and it's an ongoing series of lost paperwork. He has had kidney cancer as well as now an undiagnosable neurological disorders the fun just keeps on going. Best wishes.3

Hey Steve! Keep the faith and hang in there! Glad to hear you want to get a schedule to work out! That’s what I need. You can do it, whatever you can try!2

I got some of the VA stuff wrangled. But not all of it…. Monday looms over my weekend peace.
We did get an off brand cologuard from the VA earlier this week, and I managed to give my husband clear enough instructions, and was able to then, err…. ummm… “obtain the sample” yesterday. And got it properly sealed up and sent off to the lab.
No greater love hath (wo)man than she will literally dig in (redacted) for her husband’s healthcare.Lots of luck with the VA. Are you going through a good Service Organization?
We used the African American PTSD Association, and they were amazing. But even so it took a few years. Two and a half? I think? And it was a series of “we need more proof/information” until I finally sent off what I call my “45 page polite F-U letter” which was an indexed and annotated compendium of everything we had already sent.
He was approved the next month.
And ya. My husband is an Agent Orange vet too. It caused his diabetes. Even though he was an athlete. Runner. Take Kwon Do black belt. Etc. One big reason why I get pretty rankled when people are simplistic about the causes of T2D.1 -
Grand kids everywhere but hopefully by later afternoon rest time.6

For those of you dealing with VA. We are not going through a service organization (probably should have) but now they have all his medical records from Dr and the 11 lbs of records we sent. He had his VA appointment and the Dr approved several different things on c!aim so now it's wait and see. Thanks to all for your imput. Have to love time with grandkids. Last time we were with our 5 year old granddaughter I was her horse, boy did I ever get a work out.2

I had to get up especially early to take a friend to a dr appointment. That shot the whole morning and half the afternoon. But their appointment went well. They learned some stuff I wish my dr had told me before my diabetes diagnosis.
Which means they’ll be over to use my NuStep daily.
I gave them permission to use it during our regular dinner time. Hopefully that will keep it free for when myself and others in the house want to use it.
Gotta start counting the miles to Rivendell soon…. See who gets there first. LOL1 -
Checking in. Weight is on a downward trend. Been walking more - eating less - it's like magic. 😁16

Today is the memorial service for my lovely daughter in law’s mother.
She was, by all accounts, an amazing woman. But disability, distance, and the kitten pandemic kept me from knowing her anywhere near as well as I wished to.
My daughter in law held the memorial service over Zoom. Which was smart. And a whole new experience.
Her family is kind of big in the world of filk, so the music was lovely and funny and uplifting. Hearing her husband sing tunes he had written for her twenty five years ago brought tears to my eyes.
If the nickname “MamaCon” means anything to you, light a candle in her memory.5 -
I had my hearing test today. The result is worst than I expected.
But I'm looking forward to be fitted with my hearing aids in 3 weeks time. It will be great ! My weight is still go up and down . Take care everyone. 🍎8 -
Checking in...been busy remodeling houses so I have been walking less because I am very active now. Weight is actually a little lower than I would like it to be so been snacking more to compensate. Tracking keep me in line.5
