Daily weigh-ins? Yes! What are your thoughts?

I am all for daily weigh-ins! For me, it holds me accountable on a daily basis. Others I have heard it discourages them; however, it doesn’t for me. I like to know wher I am at everyday, especially when I am trying to lose weight and achieve my goal!
I know others disagree, what do you think? Do you prefer daily or weekly weigh-ins?

I am pro daily weighing. I use an app called Happy Scale to log my daily weigh ins. I like the extra data I get.11
-
for me yes, because it lets me identify trends in sleep, heavy workouts etc - other ppl it makes obsessive5
-
Awesome! I am going to check out that app!0
-
I weigh daily, but only update my stats Sunday morning14
-
I downloaded Happy Scale, cool app!1
-
I weigh daily first thing in the morning. I also use Happy Scale to track trends.3
-
I weigh daily, but the number on the scale doesn't trigger me to have a good or bad day. For someone who has a lot of emotion tied up in that number, weighing less often would be a better idea. It's very individual.16
-
I do daily. i look forward to seeing the number mostly some days are a bust with water retention but that's life. Using a weight trending app keeps me focussed and i am able to take the peeks and the lows.5
-
I weigh daily so if it starts to move up I can nip it right away.6
-
I weigh daily to keep myself on track especially when maintaining. I hate putting higher numbers into my trending app so I try to keep my weight range where I want it so I don't have to. It's a game I play with myself, but it works for me.2

Weigh daily, have a wifi scale so I don't even have to type numbers in. Updates Libra, MFP, Garmin and trendweight.5
-
I weigh daily; it helps keep me accountable, and drives my food choices for that day. I use the Libra app.3
-
Used to do daily...now two or three times per week. I wouldn't say it necessarily holds me accountable...more that it just gives me more data points. Body weight fluctuates all over the place...I can gain or lose a couple pounds day to day and it actually has nothing to do with what I did the day before and it doesn't drive my current choices...ie, "oh noes...I'm up two pounds this morning, I better cut back."
A lot of people get discouraged because they don't understand normal and natural weight fluctuations and they don't understand why they've done everything right (which they have) and the scale went up a pound or two from the day before and don't understand that it has nothing to do with them, but rather, simple physiology.15 -
Hi am going to check out the a Libra app as well. For me as well it doesn’t bother my emotion of weighing myself everyday. I like to keep track!0
-
Ahh you need to buy the scale for the Libra app. 👍2

I weigh first thing every morning after using the bathroom. I then log the weight into the Libra app. I don't worry much about fluctuations and just pay attention to the trend.
Weighing daily helps me adhere to my calorie deficit.1 -
It reaaally depends on how sensitive you are lol-- My husband has to hide my scale until my two week weigh in because we know if I see even a .1 gain (which is always from water weight but my emotions don't factor it) I will be devestated! I super envy those who can microtrack their weight, good for them!11

I weigh daily.2

The good thing I also found with Happy Scale was that I could also see when it was that I had spikes in bloating and stuff due to period - i run iPeriod also and put in stuff like moods etc. The two combined made me learn a lot about my cycle.
I did it for a few months - weigh every day and iPeriod updates and discovered things like I have a ravenous beast hungry day about 7 days before my period, I get this woosh of weight loss the day before I get bloated just before my period - seriously - like i'll drop a kilo bam from the day before and then the day after it will be like 2 kilos up. And sometimes when that special day pops up on my official weigh in day (Friday) it makes it seem like i had this wonderful week and lost so much when in reality it's some weird thing my body does every month.
I'm not doing it at the moment but it was a very interesting data gathering exercise to do that for about 4 months I think I did it.4 -
The best thing is to find whatever works for you.
When I don’t weigh daily, I just start lying to myself and slipping up. Weighing daily keeps me accountable and I don’t stress about the fluctuations - I know what’s just a normal fluctuation vs real gains where I need to start reevaluating my choices. Plus, I like having the data and I like that Happy Scale gives me predictions of when I’ll hit my next goal or my ultimate goal weight.12 -
If it helps you with accountability then fantastic.
I wouldn’t get caught up on the numbers though. There are sooooooo many variables that can effect what you weigh on a given day. Such as:
Hydration status.
How much food is in your digestive system.
If you’ve been to the bathroom or not.
Stress levels.
Muscle loss or gain.
Stored muscle glycogen.
And that’s just the similarities for both men and women. For the fairer sex you also have to account for your monthly cycle. This means that day to day can give you a inaccurate representation. A fair comparison would be between the same points in your cycle.
I don’t weight daily. Actually I hardly weigh myself at all. I go off how I look the mirror. I do this by taking a weekly photo. Taking measurements could also be a good option.4 -
Weigh myself once every few weeks or so. I like seeing a bigger shift in the numbers, and day to day fluctuations are meaningless anyway.
I tend to measure shorter term progress by how loose my belt feels.
The belt don't lie!3 -
I weigh daily so I can see what's going on with my weight. I know there are fluctuations to be expected but it keeps me on track to see those numbers in the morning.5
-
I weigh every day, but only record changes. When I get 3 or 4 consecutive readings under or over my target range, I’ll change my calories. Individual readings mean nothing.5

The happy scale app is awesome! Plugged in my info yesterday and will start putting in my daily weight,0

??.
No, Libra doesn't need a particular scale. You can use the app and put your weight in it daily.1 -
I have tried it both ways - and settled somewhere in the middle - weighing daily taught me how much my weight can fluctuate so I actually obsess less. Now I weigh myself most days, only recording my weight when there is a loss. If I stay at a plateau for more than 2 weeks (no additional loss), I know I need to change something in my routine - add more exercise, change the types of foods, watch my salt more...… so far I have seen slow but steady loss since September a total of only 22 pounds but many NSV's as I have been steadily changing my habits3

Thanks! I went back and now using!0 -
I weigh everday. I love seeing the trends.5

I weigh in daily, but I have a long term and realistic mindset. I've run a few self experiments to see how much hydration impacts my weight and noted that my weight varies ~5 lbs throughout the day.
I would say that if someone has an issue with daily weigh ins they either don't understand the process very well and/or need to seriously consider changing their mindset.1
