Y’all do amazing things to support each other! I am proud to “know” you all.
AIM is the one we all did as a virtual race a while back right?
I went back to see if mine was visible, and looks like my image is gone. Not sure why, but here it is again. I am not at home and do not recall what it looks like off hand. So dunno if you can see it:
Yessir, I see it, just right of an airplane in the center.. Hawaiians love SPAM side out.3 -
So I've been logging food but not in the forums. Work has been crazy. I've been struggling with depression.
But some sadistic coach assigned me like 140 miles for April. And my response? 🤣🤣🤣 so my goal is 110-140. 🤷🏼♀️14 -

4/1 5miles, 30 minutes TRX routine
4/2 5.86miles (tempo intervals)
4/3 rest
4/4 7.25miles (6miles, 6 strides)
4/5 10miles, 30 minutes hip exercises
Felt good today. No weird heart rate jumps. I did wake up with post nasal drip and a scratchy throat. I wonder if that is why my heart rate was abnormally high yesterday?

I remember that AIM virtual race well - I was on a trail running weekend and we'd done a hilly 8 mile run that day - but I insisted on going out again at the appropriate time to complete my run - I did it a pair of approach shoes, on the roads around Dartmoor - thankfully our guide came with me so we didn't get run over!!! happy times for not so happy reasons. We should plan a group run again this year - last year was our 24 hour run. Watddyareckon?9

Yesterday evening I did my final pace run before my marathon, 6 miles with the middle 4 at 8:20-8:30. It was a pretty good run despite the crazy wind. I did the run from work, which is a pretty hilly area. When I went to leave the building, I thought the door was broken because I could not push it open to get out. Then I realized that it was the wind that was making the door nearly impossible to open. Of course, the direction of the wind just happened to be right in my face as I climbed up the hill for my final pace mile. I felt as if I was standing still, but I still managed an 8:28 for the mile, so mission accomplished for the run.
This weekend the weather is supposed to be nice, with Saturday temps close to 70. I have not run in any weather near those temps. The last time I ran Boston, temps were in the 70s at the start due to the late start time. I had done one or two training runs in mid afternoon to prepare and I was grateful for that, as a lot of people struggled with the heat. My plan is to do my Saturday run of 8-10 miles in the middle of the day to prepare. It's probably not enough to save me if we have weather like last time, but at least it's something. On the other hand, if it's cold, raining and generally miserable, I should be plenty prepared!11 -
I couldn't do the AIM virtual at the proper time... probably due to injury... but it was memorable when I did do it. It was my first Parkrun and Kody's first race. I had my second fastest 5k time, at the time, in spite of two poop breaks (for Kody). I wore the shirt and carried the medal with me. It's hanging from Kody's neck in the photo.

4-1 Rest
4-2 7k easy
4-3 7k easy
4-4 rest

April Total: 21k
April Goal: 150k
Next year when you pop in here claiming your December 2019 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
Run at least 4 5k races.
Get under 30:00 and a PR for 5k.
Average at least 135k per month, which would put me over 1,000 miles for the year.
Run the Year Team: Five for Nineteen
With my first 5k of the year coming up, decided I'd run a little harder than I usually do to see how ready I am. Turned out pretty well.
2019 Races:
4-13 Shine the Light 5K (Registered)
6-1 Freedom 5K (Will be off the schedule due to another commitment)
6-30 Strides for Starfish 5K11 -

Well. I’m unable to run, but if there’s a cause to support, I’m in. Maybe @HonuNui wants to do AIM again? I think that’s a lot of work for her though. Ideas?
It can’t be just any willy-nilly event. We love supporting one another so I’ll have to be something personal, something we can get behind.5 -

My heart rate always goes up before the onset of an illness. I can tell from that and my blood glucose levels when I’m about to get sick. If I have a fever, it really skyrockets.2 -
I'm still at zero miles for the month. I was going to run last night for 3 miles but decided another two days of down time for injury recovery would be better for me than 3 miles.
Tomorrow. Tomorrow I run.15 -

I'm glad you clarified the poop breaks. 😉15 -
@zdyb23456 - lol on holding back the nice rack comment.
@7lenny7 - hope tomorrow is the day!
@rusgolden - congrats on the 10K!
I'd not heard of nettles either. I tried to catch up and read about all the scary things where people live, but what started it? Did someone get bit by a snake or eaten by a bear or something?
I am afraid of the brown recluse spiders also. About 20 years ago I remember reading about an office building in Orlando that was infested with them and a bunch of people working there had gotten bit and were missing big holes - and they showed pictures! I never could forget that image!
I did the AIM race - but I forgot when it was. Time just absolutely flies.
Biking tomorrow for me and not sure on Sunday yet.

Welp, pre-summer is officially here. Temps in Austin hit a high of 91F yesterday and the humidity was 97% when I started my run this morning. Like running draped in a hot, wet, wool blanket.
Oh, and there is a 60% chance of severe thunderstorms tomorrow morning for my half. I foresee a soggy, hot, humid run in my future 🙄
Why do I live here?
Anyway, I still enjoyed my run this morning. I picked my favorite trail from last month and revisited it. I still have not bought trail shoes but I did buy a hydration pack. The icy water bladder thing helped A LOT.
Anyone still getting snow? Do you want to send some down here?
April goal miles ? / Miles to Date = 17 miles

Morning all. Its Saturday morning here. I plan on a short run today. Will see if it happens. Today will be filled with yard work (no self respecting kiwi says yard work, we say gardening and lawns! I've been hanging our with y'all too long. Dear God, that's another one. Sigh) and cleaning. House is listed but no bites so far. I'm still getting moments of excitement with a little panic. I'm dreading Tuesday when I tell my boss but will be glad when it's done.9

I forgot about chiggers...ugh. And fire ants. The fire ants were super busy building on the trail I ran today.
Funny story about when I first moved to Texas. I found out that cockroaches FLY down here. One landed in my hair the first time I tried to walk on a green belt after moving south. I did not go outside for a week....shudder.10 -

Today I got to run 1.65 miles - I decided to try running to the gym instead of bussing there and running back. I brought a change of clothes so I didn’t feel like a sweaty monster on the bus, though I still felt a little awkward. At least I didn’t have to sit next to anyone. I love my gym, but unfortunately it does not have showers.
More importantly, although my legs felt pretty heavy and a little touchy running to the gym, I still feel pretty good! A little tired, but not painful. Hurrah!
In racing news, I got an email a little bit ago with a guaranteed entry code for the Twin Cities Marathon 10 Mile race - they launched a rewards program this year and registering for three of their other races gets you a guaranteed entry in the 10 Mile (usually it's lottery only for the non-elites). Of course, one of the three races I signed up for was the TCM 10K, which is the day before the 10 Mile. I'd only planned on doing one, but now I've got the idea of doing both in my head. I'm going to have to think about it - thankfully I have until the end of May to decide. I'd been looking at doing the 3 race challenge (5k, 10K, and 10Mi) but it actually costs substantially more than signing up for the races individually - I'm guessing the premium is because you bypass the lottery?
The other question mark is the 26K the following weekend, but I'm actually not too concerned about that. The 10K is the only race of the three that I'd want to run hard, and 10 miles seems like a perfectly reasonable training run a week before a half marathon plus a bit. Well, no decisions need to be made yet - I haven't actually run more than 3-4 miles in a single go since early February, so maybe I should focus on that first.

Dog owner question.
We have two. One needs groomed religiously (half border collie /cocker spaniel) but is an outside dog so poor thing gets it once maybe twice a year. It’s that time of year. The second dog just needs his potty area trimmed. How a dog can have the hairiest backside? It’s like an alpaca back there. Dig out the clippers and they no longer cut. Anyone groom their own animals? I’m sure I put the clippers up dirty, never bothered to buy the cleaning oil they need run in. So, ya know... dh tried to help. Bought new clippers (-200$) and the oil bath cleaning tub of stuffy stuff.
I can get the one trimmed where she doesn’t look like “ yo mama cuts yur hair”. Second dog? nah he looks stupid (but is a border collie, not really the grooming kinda dog. I make him look like a lion. So dumb.)
Any tips? Clipper care or dog care?3 -
well poop
i just came down with the cold everyone in the office had
headache, runny nose, fever in waves
and my first 26.2 tomorrow.
if i at least start, then i can see how far i can go. i wasn't trying to make any records other than to finish. minimal pace is 15mph before the sag bus grabs you. i think there is 1 at 10k and one at 13.115 -

If it's of any use to you, I ran my PR 5k with a cold.
I know a marathon is a lot different from a 5k, but sometimes mind over (snotty) matter can make a difference.6 -

You should be able to walk a 15 minute mile, but it’s a brisk walk. That would take you seven hours though, which is a long time to be on your feet with a fever, even at a walk!
Terrible timing, hoping you wake up feeling much better tomorrow. Take care of yourself!6 -
Hi everyone....finally posting my April goals. I've been hit and miss on the forums lately. Will try to do better this month. I missed my goal last month by 2.45 miles. Will set goal for 50 miles this month.
4/2....5.28 miles (Monon trail)
4/4....5.34 miles (Monon trail)
Tuesday's run was the first after running a half marathon on Saturday. My quads were trashed but not as sore as Sunday. Mostly ran in zone. Lots of hard wind, but temperature was 54 degrees. Noted no hip pain. Felt good afterward.
Yesterday was a light drizzle throughout the run. I forgot my running hat...so getting rained on, but thought to myself....it could be worse. Had difficulty deciding whether to run 4 or 5 miles. Felt great after the first 4 miles...so opted for 5 miles.
Total was 10.62 miles thus far. Good start for April.7 -
Well, gave up my run today to wait on the AC repair man, who was on the schedule to be the exact guy who came out for the estimate and to arrive at 1 pm. At 3 pm I called and they said he was on his way. Instead, another random guy arrived with no knowledge of what he was supposed to be doing, never having seen the work order, and lacking the equipment he needed. Went off to the warehouse for the equipment and was never seen again. The interior of my house is in the mid 70s now and tomorrow is supposed to be in the 80s. And also I was planning on making up the run I missed today.10

Was away for a couple of days enjoying a visit from my DD and not checking in here... have skimmed through the posts...
@rusgolden - Congratulations on an awesome PR!!
@7lenny7 - hope your Achilles are felling better so you can get out for a run soon!
On the healthcare BC discussion... never had much issue and never really used BC. Medically did not seem I would get pregnant and everyone was surprised when I did (yay have a beautiful grown miracle daughter!). Now I no longer have to worry about those monthly issues and it is a relief but healthcare in general is such a mess. Like waiting for months to see the ortho or podiatrist for my foot because the x-ray did not definitively show a stress fracture because they don't usually show... I also hate the way some healthcare organizations 'work' the system to get more money, essentially driving up the cost for everyone. Case in point the state supported University med center where I see my nutritionist bills out my 30 min appointment with her under the medical doctor that has (administrative) responsibility the clinic overall. That doctor happens to be a cardiologist so they bill it at that rate ~$600 for a 30 min visit to a nutritionist! I have never seen this cardiologist, pretty sure they are never even in the clinic.
@ddmom0811 - I am not exactly sure how the scary thing discussion started but I know @rheddmobile was talking about spiders and critters in the bathroom on her trail and @girlinahat brought up nettles.
I have not heard of nettles in So CA but we did have them in Idaho, along with poison oak, ivy and sumac. Here we have earthquakes too, like @simcon1 mentioned but I think we may have them a bit more frequently. I am somewhat used to them but they still freak me out a bit - we had a 3.5 on Wednesday morning that we all slept through so...
I am really really afraid of spiders and while I learned how to handle snakes, lizards and other critters when I worked in a zoo, I am still pretty afraid of snakes in the wild. So after all the discussion here I did find it coincidental that this was on the trail today!I had no idea what kind of snake it was until I got home and looked it up. We inched by him, turned, took the 2nd picture and then he was gone! So Fast! It is not poisonous and is called a Red Racer, known for their speed! Maybe he wanted to race me 🤣
@elise4270 - no clue on clipping dogs. We have only had one dog ever that had to be groomed and we took him to have it done. Hobbes the Vizsla rarely even needs a bath and I just brush him out with a rubber kind of brush. His fur is so short and there isn't much of it. Well at least it seems that way until he starts shedding.
@mbaker566 - is there anything you can take to stave off the symptoms? Maybe even just going to bed now and resting... I hope you feel better!!!
