Tonight was a bit of an eye opener for me. Memorial day weekend meant a bbq party. Yeah I had a little to drink, but nothing crazy and ended the night feeling "sober" (meaning yeah I had some earlier but by the end of the night felt totally fine again) since I stopped drinking earlier in the evening AND made sure this time to stay hydrated by alternating to water. Anywho, I watched a family member get really, really drunk. I have seen people boozy drunk before but not this drunk. And granted this person was definitely pressured BIG time into drinking and they wanted to please them and they have social anxiety. It all lead to this dragged out, exhausting night. And because of this I do NOT want to drink anymore! I feel cruddy just having had a few today throughout the day. I dont ever want to feel that way. Tomorrow is AF since today was my drink day for the holiday. Ready for Monday after company leaves to get back into working out as well.
I hope everyone has a wonderful and safe holiday, and that you are able to stay within whatever goals you have set if not, tomorrow is a new day and that's what this group is all about! Also, thank you for listening to me to rant.8 -
@WinoGelato
Ah, you are rooting for the Boston Bruins. Well, I do love Chara and Bergeron and of course Tuuka Rask. Everybody hates Marchand even though he is a really good player. Original 6.
However, St. Louis has never won a cup and were in last place at the beginning of January! I actually saw them play in Colorado in '97 when Brett Hull was still with them and Pierre Turgeon.
So I guess that I am hoping to see the Blues finally win a cup.
It will be a great series.
Definitely not going to have drinks for every game like I used to.

My plan for May will be 5AF days per week.
May 01 - AF
May 02 - AF - planned night out for dinner, drinks, a concert Friday night the 3rd. I am okay with that, I do it seldom.
May 03 - 1/2 litre of wine + 2 drinks! Off the rails with food too - this happens when we consume alcohol. I had a good time, but it is bad for the waistline.
May 04 - AF
May 05 - AF
May 06 - AF
May 07 - AF - really felt like having a drink just now, but came on here to record an AF day, which really helped me to abstain.
May 08 - 3 drinks
May 09 - AF - I have a deficit of 1900 left for today (very active day), so a couple of drinks would be within range - but - no drinking 2 days in a row, and I am going out tomorrow night and don't want a puffy face and puffy belly.
May 10 - 3 drinks. The show was sold out that the plan was to go to. Instead, worked my butt off getting the garden going, then fell to what most people are feeling like this time of year, a few drinks on the porch after working hard in the sun. All good.
May 11 - 3 drinks. Oop, 2 days in a row! Won't be having any over the next few days.
May 12 - AF - barely going to squeak out my new goal of 5AF days per week.
May 13 - AF
May 14 - AF - Almost didn't reach my 5AF per week. Really felt like having drinks but I knew that I needed to be AF to make the goal.
May 15 - AF - Yet another day where I really felt like having drinks, specifically a Cosmo. I kept delaying until I could talk myself out of it. Turned out well because the San Jose Sharks and St. Louis Blues went into overtime, which would have meant more drinks had I been having drinks.
May 16 - AF - Tomorrow will be too, but probably not Saturday.
May 17 - 3 drinks - I completely changed my weekend plans around and ended up watching the hockey game with a few drinks. Not feeling that great this morning, I will need to sweat it out with a good workout.
May 18 - AF - Hair of the dog probably would have made me feel better - 3 drinks didn't use to affect me this way. Toughed it out.
May 19 - 3 drinks
May 20 - AF
May 21 - 3 drinks. I actually did better when my goal was 4AF days per week, when I often had 5 or 6 AF days per week. I am going to go through May with this goal, but I might bring it back down to 4 for June, I'll see. I went from drinks 7 days per week for 6 months at the start of this, and didn't want to fail by making too huge of a goal for myself. My first goal was 2AF days per week and I progressed. Might not be ready just yet.
Like I have said in the past, I went from eating ribs weekly (1700 calories for a good feed) to once per month, then once every few months. I am not going to never eat ribs again, nor am I going to cut out having wine with my girlfriends, I am trying to cut back like I did with the ribs.
I am going away for 5 days where I likely won't have wifi so won't be checking in unless I don't leave until Thursday morning. Not sure if I am going to be having drinks or not while away, likely will be.
Even after these months, it would be pretty easy to go back to drinks every day...except...for the waistline and puffy face. I really cut drinking back for those visible reasons, and will need to keep it back. Alcohol really does affect the weight and the appearance.
May 22 - AF - going away in the morning without wifi for awhile.
Home from being away May 27, going to log the previous days - back to wifi and tracking, reading what you have all written.
May 23 - AF
May 24 - 1 glass of wine out at dinner.
May 25 - 1 glass of Port and kept it to that.
May 26 - 3 drinks
Running total: 16AF days out of 26 days so far - not really reaching my 5AF per week goal, but reached my 4AF per week that I used to do until this month. There are still a few days left in the month4 -

Oh no I’m in STL and a Blues fan! I was thinking you were rooting for the Sharks in the last series, not sure why. Yeah, LGB!1 -
Proud of myself! Only one drink each day of the holiday weekend. Oh wait, one and a half last night to kill off the bottle and free up space in my refrigerator. But still, pretty dang good in my book!
Also got to spend two glorious days on a sailboat getting Coastal Cruising certification!7 -

Thank you so much for the support from my crappy Thursday. I really appreciated having you guys to talk to. It sure helps. I have been wanting to come back and share more all weekend, but just couldn't put words together. I also had a crappy Friday night. I will spare the pre-details and get to the point of what I want to share and what I learned. Friday we were evacuated due to flooding. I didn't handle it well. At the time I think I did. I can justify all my actions. I don't think it's near as bad as my son and husband treated me, but bottom line is, I did have 3 beers and a glass in me when it happened. Without those, I may not have reacted as freaked out. I wasn't as freaked out for myself, but a close friend's mother who lives down the street and who also has Alzheimer's. I wanted to spare her the "craziness" of all the flashing lights, strangers knocking at the door. I wanted my husband to be the one to drive her out of there. She knows him well and feel's secure with him. He wasn't as concerned for her as he was his house and the grandkids. I appreciate that, but I felt we all were fine. Our house was farthest away from it all. After a couple of days my husband and I talked about it. I was upset that they accused "my" drinking for my over reacting. I explained I would have acted that way without the beers. I was upset at him for not doing what I thought was most important. My real anger though stemmed from him not taking any of this serious previously. I work in the county clerk's office. I heard the emergency workers all week long talking about what "could" happen. Thursday night I went home and prepared the basement. My husband the next day asked if I had moved everything in the basement and why. When I told him, I had NO IDEA he was putting everything back. When I got home I was angry at him for it. Then we were also dealing with tornado's Friday night BEFORE the flooding. So it was SOOO SO dang stressful. I knew I already had Tuesday planned as my new day one for going AF for 30 days. So I did not care about their attitude Sunday and Monday when I cracked open a beer. I did not get "boozed" up, because I did not want to feel crappy, but I had enough to satisfy. I even thought of the last one as "my last one".
Thanks...…...AGAIN for listening. So looking forward to calmer days, and less drama.

@forestdweller1 so sorry you have to watch your children hurting over losing their father in so many ways. I hope as they move through his illness they are able to find comfort.
@amberrea82 I'm glad you're with us. I understand the feeling of alcohol all around us. Every activity, family function, etc. For me it's kind of scary wondering how I will handle these future events because I enjoy participating so much. But I am learning to change my thinking so that I see the benefits of not drinking more.
@beebva4 Sorry about your experience and that it takes something like that for us to see what we really need.
Have a great day everyone!! I am going to Yoga tonight and staying AF!

May 27 - AF
May 28 - 4 drinks
May 29 - AF
May 30 - 4 drinks - just felt like it.
May 31 - 3 drinks - my discipline slipped a little this last 2 weeks, I will try better in June.
Running total: 18AF days out of 31 days so far3 -
