Just found out today that my fourth grandchild is on the way... or as my daughter put it, her "third and final."
Speaking of which, Michele! How are Denise and the new baby doing? Enquiring minds want to know.

Got behind again but spent this rainy day catching up. So many emotions when reading so many pages.
Lisa- I thought vets could go to any doctor and Tricare would pay. You shouldn’t have to wAit for prescriptions. Congrats on the new grand baby.
Tracie- you mentioned the Giants Causeway a few pages back and I wanted to tell you how much we loved visiting there when we were in Ireland a few years ago. I can still picture the sheep grazing with different colors of paint to identify the proper owner. Good luck with the job interview, saying prayers for you.
Rye- so happy you popped in to let us know you are ok. Miss you.
Barbara- thanks for your kind words regarding my headaches. Still dealing with them but determined to conquer them. Yoga helps a lot but only have it twice a week. Did some on my own this morning and the stretches helped.
Sharon- thanks for letting us know how the surgery went and glad you are doing well.
Didn’t take notes so can’t remember anything else.

Pretty tired right now. Got stuff set up for conference, sat in a meeting for the afternoon. Committee went out for dinner at a fun place-pizza and salad. Logged everything pretty close I believe. Since I got 17,000 steps in and 139 active minutes in I think I’ll be ok. No way I’m eating back all of what I’ve been given in exercise calories.
Turning in, hope I can sleep in hotel. Even though we have an early start, I should be able to workout in am. If not, I know I will get quite a bit of walking in. Planning on making good food choices tomorrow.2 -
Rant warning.....Sitting in the lounge at the airport hotel. Our room isn’t ready yet! I admit I am spoiled, but when hub spends 70+ nights with this brand, I expect a room to be ready, especially since it is 3 1/2 hours after check in time!!!

NSV ... I have two weddings coming up and I just don't think I can pull off black pants at a spring wedding and a summer outdoor wedding in June so I decided to bite the bullet, even though the scale had bounced up today, and go shopping. I haven't worn a dress in probably 15-20 years due to both my weight and bulging veins in my legs. Frankly, I don't even like the styles but I decided to try on a knee length dress, in a print no less, and it was too big. I tried a smaller size and it was too big. And then I walked out of the Women's Plus department and entered that foreign world called "Misses" and much to my dismay tried on a sheath/shift dress in a XXL that actually fit. I spent a good bit of time wandering around all those small little clothes ... needing the largest size there of course ... but still ... it was the Misses Department!! I bought the dress and will probably agonize over it for a while and then return it because I don't like my legs ... but it was definitely a fun afternoon! And talk about motivation to continue on even when you are discouraged by the scale...

But why not go for a long skirt? I'm wearing one today that goes to mid-calf. There are all kinds of pretty maxi dresses for summer.

Machka- My older sister sleeps with her eyes open. She uses eye drops (lubricant) and a gel mask (to keep her eyes shut). It was very weird sharing a room with her as a child.
I used strong/advanced formula lubricant eye drops last night and I think they might have helped a little. However, I'm still waking with very red eyes.
I'm going to see if I can find a mask today.

Machka: I love the cartoon!! I had metal fillings, too—silver amalgam. They’re all replaced now, I think. The silver is not a healthy thing to have in your mouth. :noway:
My recent fillings are a plastic rather than anything metal. I think that's the way they're going these days.

Orthopedic appointment went okay today. Saw many people who have injuries much worse than mine. I choked up when I first saw the xrays of my feet on the computer screen. It so easy to take feet for granted, and I was moved to just stop for a moment and thank all the delicate bones and ligaments that have kept me mobile and taken me through many fun and interesting times.
On a less warm and fuzzy note, I was advised to keep boot on ALL the time, including sleeping....Holy Farts! Also have to keep other foot in a compression band most of the time. I'll do my best, but as a side sleeper, I'm really dreading feeling that boot on top of my other foot. Next appointment is in 4 weeks, and he thinks that by then I'll be able to transition to a hard soled shoe. Also, I can slowly increase how much I walk as long as it doesn't cause swelling. For now, I'll still be needing to have groceries delivered in order to keep between 2500-2800 steps a day.
That video of the gals sitting and getting up with no hands is playing over and over in my head as my recovery goal...
All this rest is giving me an opportunity to catch up on Netflix shows. This week we're enjoying Tidying Up, the show where Marie Kondo helps people reorganize their homes using her method. I never read her book, but am loving the program.
KareninVA: Thank you for the CBD info. I've benefited greatly from a balm that is 50/50 CBD-THC. User dabs a bit on pulse points, and it gets absorbed into bloodstream.
Mary in MN: Arnica is an extraordinary healing agent. I have been using the gel, as well as the homeopathic tablets to alleviate the bruising. Works wonders!
While driving today I was listening to a podcast about cats and learned that there has been research showing that a cat's purr is at a frequency range that promotes the healing of bones. So, I'll be doing my best to keep Mars purring like a motorboat.
Okay, 'nuf about me. Hugs and good energy to all.

Can you prop the boot foot up on pillows in front of your non-boot foot when you're on your side?
I sleep on my side too (mostly), but like the two furthest right images, top and bottom.

I am the proud owner of an eye mask! I want to wear it now, at work. But I suspect that wouldn't go over very well.
Instead, I've had to make do with applying some lanolin cream around my eyes. That has seemed to ease the pain around my eyes a bit ... made them relax a little perhaps.

Lanette: The girls in your clip were getting up using the same technique I use. I bet you can do it, too. Yoga has been a real blessing for me. My body thanks me for going to yoga classes regularly.
RV Rita: Cute little dog. I hope to hear from you again soon.
Tracey: Congrats on getting the call! I hope all goes well. :flowerforyou:
Bananas&Oranges: Pot legality is decided on a state by state basis. Medical MJ was legal in Oregon for years before recreational pot was legalized. Colorado was first to legalize recreational pot as far as I know, then Washington & Oregon were after Colorado. Alaska and California have also legalized recreational MJ. The City of Washington DC was an early legalizer, too. Now there are additions to that list. On another topic, the cat poisoner in my life lived across the street from us many years ago. He put poisoned meat out in his garage to attract and kill cats. His wife was my neighbor’s best friend. My neighbor told me about his poisoning our cat and others the day we moved away.
Snowflake: Sending good thoughts your way.
Beth: Congratulations on your weight loss success. Smaller sizes are proof that you’re doing the right things and getting healthier.
Rori: One of my yoga teachers is a proponent of arnica. It works very well for her. I hope it works well for you, too.
I am planning to go to a county park this Saturday that my horse friends are attempting to improve. They envision a roadside rest area for horses. People will be able to let their horses out of the trailer, move around freely and stretch on their way to the coast or on their way back home from the coast. I’ve seen one such corral on Interstate 80 East between Portland and Pendleton. I think this improvement will happen, but it will require some fundraising and public support to become a success.

Beth that is heartening news about your pooch. Would you share the specific CBD product or link? Is it Karen in VA's bluebird botanicals? Scooter is still rallying, went downstairs by himself this afternoon for the first time in awhile.
Lanette T'ai Chi in the park, wish I could be there. Back in Boise my first T'ai Chi experience was in the Botanical Garden. The environment was lovely and sometimes birds or squirrels or once a duck seemed drawn to join in
Machka and Okie I too talk to my parents and twice Papa talked to me. I do visit the cemetery where their bodies are buried whenever I'm in California, perhaps twice every 10 years, and do some serious crying and talking, but you're right, they aren't there, they've gone ahead.
Connie in KY I too have been double D since 12 or 13. When Mama suggested reduction surgery to ease the back pain, I did a little research. It stopped at the line "first they slice off your nipples..."
Elizabeth congrats on the 5!
Rori fingers X'd for good news from orthopedist.
Tracey we have Skye Terriers. Can you put your designs on a hoodie or sweatshirt? Thank you so much! Wow you are creative, those cards!
Heather I know how anxious waiting for news of your friend is. My friend cut off all communication 3 days before he died and since I'm not on his HIPA sheet the nurse couldn't tell me anything beyond "he's no longer in the building."
Only up thru pg 18 but can't muster the energy to even read more, much less do anything. Made it to dog group today, that was my big victory. Going back to bed and pulling the covers up over my head.

Off to Dublin after lunch, and thence to Croatia, and a new place to discover. Planning to have a week with as much time off grid as possible. Will only log on to preserve logging streak.

Barbara in Oregon - sending many hugs your way.
Heather - to you as well, for your friend.
SueBDew - Vets must use the VA clinic if there's one within 50 miles, and only if you're further away than that are you able to use Veteran's Choice and see a civilian doctor (with an appointment-by-appointment permission garnered online). Vets are not on Tricare if they're not retirees, just the VA. They will send you to a civilian doc if a VA specialist isn't available for whatever your primary care doc refers you to - as they did with my knee replacement (thank goodness).
Which reminds me of one of my neighbors many, many years ago who was listening to me getting cranky about my now-ex-husband (Air Force sergeant at the time) working another 12-hour day, and said something like, "but think about all that overtime!" Military members do not get paid overtime, no matter how many hours they work, of course. She also thought we didn't pay federal income taxes! SMH. At the time he made so little we were actually eligible for food stamps. We ate an awful lot of beans in those days.
Another day begins... happy Thursday, whether it is in progress or in your past...

Ouffff! Tired today. Not sure why. Too much eating and drinking and not sleeping well, I presume.
I dragged myself through my exercises and will go for a slow run this afternoon. I have a 'wet cut' at the hairdresser's later this pm.
My friend was online early this a m, so I sent her a loving message. She doesn't need to reply. She has so many friends I know she finds it hard to respond to all the demands.
Yesterday evening was pretty wild. The kids were exhausted from a birthday bank holiday and the two young ones were near the edge. Poor Bea was beyond tired and had a lot of shrieking and crying. DH came in handy with cuddles . Max was on good form though. The fish and chip supper was chaotic, but all ended well. DH and I escaped to our French Circle which was a beautiful young woman enthusing endlessly about Proust and an older woman singing French 'chansons'. Hilarious really. The older woman looked like a dumpy, frumpy granny who couldn't get herself organised, but her singing and banjo playing was terrific!
Our next outing with them will be a morning guided tour to the old town prison, in the town hall. Meeting at a 'French' café before hand. It's all a bit surreal!
Beth - I echo Machka with the maxi dress, but I do find that instant leg dye (a sort of brown gel you rub in and it washes off) hides a multitude of sins. I hate my legs too. Mine are thick ankled and super white. If I'm wearing a best occasion dress I either put on the leg dye until just over the knee with a suntan applicator glove or I wear 'hold up' stockings. They are good if your thighs aren't too big, but they were no good when I was fatter.
Lots of love, Heather UK xxxxxxx2 -
Beth ~ So happy for your experience shopping. As Machka and Heather said, perhaps a long maxi skirt in a pretty pattern with a summer like blouse. My mom always favored them and she always looked very pretty.
Lisa ~ Congrats on another grandchild.
Rori ~ Hoping you can stand sleeping in the boot. I feel for you!
Tracey ~ As Lanette said, fingers, toes, etc crossed that your interview will be successful.
Heather ~ Glad you heard from your friend.
We found an assisted living facility for our BnL and my husband and son are moving in the necessary furniture today. I had no idea that even though these places cost a fortune, the person moving in is responsible for all furnishings, bedding, and anything necessary for everyday living. The facility furnishes meals and gives out meds. They do check on patients with memory problems.
Good wishes and health for everyone!

Beth WTG, Hooray for new dress sizes! Keep it up, and have fun looking at yourself in a new size. I think Maxi dresses are super comfortable but as a short lady, they can be overwhelming. Still, savor the new size, try on lots of things just for the heck of it.
Rori I will be purring for your bones quick healing as well.
Ladies, I'm heading off to a professional challenge Friday and Saturday so will check in briefly with you all for my dose of grounding reality. Fingers crossed that the kids I meet are excited to learn, the rehearsals will be quite intense and long, hours and hours of rehearsing tomorrow and Saturday, concert at 2:30 p.m. Oh why oh why do I say yes to these things!!! (cause they stretch me professionally and I usually don't regret them in the end, though I whine and moan and stress before hand )

Lisa .. I am appalled at the treatment our service members and their families receive. I learned not too long ago from a coworker whose son-in-law was heading overseas on a mission that he had to purchase his own meals on the boat headed over!! He was a marine and was on navy ship. It was a huge stressor for his family! This just boggles my mind. My coworker ended up paying for it.
Machka ... I am looking at long skirts too!

Rori - sleeping with the knee newly surgerized and dead weight got a little complex for me as a side sleeper, as well, as I couldn't bear my other knee touching it. Putting a pillow under my knees helped some to allow me to sleep on my back, but I kept waking up incredibly stiff, my body just didn't like it. Hope yours is of short duration. Hope Mars' purring helps heal you quickly, as well!
An entire 48 hours without rain in the forecast (fingers crossed). My husband came home soaking wet at noon yesterday - the entire crew had to unload a truck in the rain, and as it's a landscaping company, and the crews couldn't go out to mow, they just sent everyone home. Here's hoping they can play catch up these two days, it's been two weeks since they could get to most of their customers, and it makes it hard on all the crews. Lots of unpaid time off.
Later,
Lisa3
