@hist_doc Yes! That was me. I've been hemming and hawing about doing a full for a while. I do A LOT of training on the mill. My kids are 6 and 3, so I run while they sleep. I also have parents in the area who come hang w/ my kids while I run cause they are amazing people. I'm thinking I'll do a tune-in half marathon in August/September. Thank you for the advice. I'll be doing two a days I am sure.
Also, I love my Garmin. The app is fine, but I don't do too much with it.
@NiigataA Welcome to the club! It's an addiction. You've had great advice. My last piece: stay hydrated, buy two pair of shoes, invest in good compression wear if you run long distance
Tonight is my first club run. 6 miles with them, speed word and hills. I don't have a clue how to fuel for an evening run. I usually run fasted (anything below 5 miles) since I run early early early. Suggestions?
I lifted and TRX'd this morning, so I know I have to replenish well before tonight.2 -
Hi all! I am pretty new to running. I have actually never really enjoyed it, lol, but I started doing C25K in the beginning of May and somewhere along the line I have gotten hooked. I am still doing run/walk but slowly progressing. We have some decent hills in my neighborhood and I run up the hills and walk down them. This gives my knee a little break as the downhills can be difficult on it. Currently, my goal is to run more than walk as I progress and it's been slow progress, but I'm still on track and headed in the right direction.

@Teresa502 ya, and the same people say "oh you are so skinny, you can afford to eat all the cake/pie/pizza". Lie. Just don't believe it no matter how good it sounds!
Sitting at Baylor waiting my "10 minutes before you can go post steroid shot, so we know you're okay". No Dr dreamy today. But the doc I had was chatty and kept my mind off of the anxiety, I did good thanks to him. Not a cry baby today. Hip is wonderful. If only the leg was stronger and healed, I'd run 10 miles today.
I almost rescheduled today with a migraine. But work wants doc notes, so figured I'd come down and get them.4 -

It was another 63F morning for my run. The humidity was higher than yesterday and the dew point was higher, so it wasn't quite as comfortable as yesterday, but it was still nice, especially for June. I ran 6.1 miles. I got some light rain this morning too starting about halfway through the run. It did help to keep me cool. It was really an uneventful run, but I enjoyed it a lot. Tomorrow morning is supposed to be another nice morning (maybe nicer than yesterday). I'll enjoy it while I can. Next week it looks like we'll be back to lows in the mid 70's.

6/12 - 5.0 miles, cool and humid. Slower than usual pace.
Currently at 33.9 / 110 miles for June.
@katharmonic - Either IMT Des Moines or KC for full. Still on the fence - never done one and not sure I can get the long runs in with my kids' crazy school / activity schedules, especially longer mid-week runs. Maybe all train for the I-35 challenge too! 13.1 + 13.1 = 26.2 in ~24 hours3 -

Yeah, I've also triggered them in the early hours of the morning running as slow as 8 mph. And just think about that 13 mph PR for a bit...then think that that's the speed that Eliud Kipchoge averages for his marathon races. It's mind-boggling.5 -
I've been on call all week, and thankfully today is the last day (until my turn comes around again)...so it prevented me from running late last week due to various production issues going on. Yay.

My husband and I got back from Iowa late Monday night. Thanks to everyone who weighed in on grief counseling. It really helped me to understand that how my sister and her husband are reacting and feeling is totally normal under the circumstances. She was very tearful at the beginning of the "Celebration of Life" and then seemed to hold it together for the rest of the afternoon. I think that it helped that so many family and friends showed up in support. I believe that she is going to pursue grief counseling. My niece admitted to me that she too has started going to a grief therapist.
We offered to drive my mother (who doesn't drive) back to southern Indiana, which included another 5 hours of travel time. It was a long weekend of being sedentary....so was hard to get back to a normal routine. I kept telling my husband...."I can't wait to do yard work". Just moving felt so good.
Yesterday I mowed the grass and then went off for a goal of 8 miles run. I have to admit that I cut out a little before making goal. It was probably a little too ambitious. My legs felt sluggish. The weather was great though.
Of course, I haven't been able to keep up with the posts. Will try to catch up on my lunch break tonight.

This is exactly the math I'm using so I can just say I'm marathon training or going to marathon group instead of having to insert the extra word "half" in there.
Speaking of marathon group, I'm getting ready to go in a bit and the weather is FABULOUS. Should be a great group tonight.3 -

We usually just get what we want. Avoid the whole gift giving mess. Dh sent me a pic of a tool box, 400$. I just said “ouch“, but I bet he comes home with it. That all fine as long as I’m not eating beans and weenies next week, wait... unless it’s a side with some bbq.

Tonight was my first run with the group. It was amazing. We did 6 miles at a very easy pace, truly a recovery run from Saturdays half marathon. I felt amazing at the end. I'm still energized from it. This is my first group running experience and inreally liked it.

It was indeed a beautiful night for marathon/HM training group with really low humidity and a nice breeze. The workout once again was hills. I did hills Monday with the regular run group and had planned to just base run tonight but the track was really busy and I didn't want to run alone so I went with the group to the hill and just did it at a bit slower pace. Again.4 -

Hobbes and I headed out for a run this morning but by the time we got out it was too hot already to run so we just went for a short walk. At one point I walked him over to a yard with sprinklers on just to get his feet wet and he just laid down in the wet grass. Took him in the pool for a short swim though when we got home just to cool off. He doesn't normally go in willingly but came in for some string cheese and seemed to enjoy it (the cheese and the swim) 😁10 -
I desperately want a Garmin too... I hinted like crazy before Mother's Day, and got really excited when a box arrived. It was a mug. When I 'joked' about thinking it was a Garmin my husband told me not to be so *kitten* dumb, like he's spend that much money on a present for me. Well, that certainly told me!
I just got home from what was actually my first enjoyable run in a while. My legs were finally happy today, possibly because I headed for the dirt track beside the river instead of roads/pavements, and it was cloudy so not as hot. I went with what felt like a comfortable pace, not exactly easy but not pushing either. Picked up the pace a little and didn't take walk breaks over the last km and if it hadn't been for an encounter with a playful young labrador with terrible manners and a cute but idiotic owner I think I would have finished the 5km within the time I need to stay under for each half of my 10km race on Saturday evening, so that made me feel a little more confident. Mind you, I'm always faster on dirt than on paved surfaces.
Re: the dog... luckily I'm familiar enough with dogs to realise he wasn't going to hurt me, but someone who didn't know dogs would probably have freaked and I don't know how he would have reacted to that/what the outcome would have been. I've sometimes come across dogs in the middle of nowhere that I've looked at their stance/expression and slowed to a walk, turned round and calmly walked away from (while freaking out inside). On one memorable occasion last year I even climbed up a tree once I got out of its sight and waited for it to go away!)
Anyway this morning as I came down the track I could see a guy and a dog way ahead of me. As I got nearer the guy heard me coming and called the dog, which had stopped a couple of metres away from him and was looking at me. At that point I was still far enough away that he could have walked up to the dog and caught hold of it. Except I later discovered it wasn't even wearing a collar. But nope, he called it again, turned around and started walking away in the same direction I was heading. Of course, dog decided to ignore him and come play with me, so raced towards me. I slammed the breaks on and pretty much put my arms out and pushed it away in the air as it jumped up at my chest, after which it just kinda bounced round me in circles. He did nip my hand very slightly, but he was obviously just really really playful and overexcited. By the time the guy had walked (yes walked, really slowly, good job I was handling the situation ok but he didn't know that!) back to us dog had decided to find me a stick for us to play with. He went "ah yeah, this dog has crap manners". I started walking but dog wanted to come with me! So I stopped again and just stared at the guy, who finally realised maybe he should restrain his pet and pulled a strip of rags (like a strip ripped off an old sheet or something) out of his pocket and looped it round the dog's neck. Totally clueless ffs! I didn't want confrontation, but now I'm thinking I really should have said something because if that had been someone who doesn't understand dogs they would have been pretty scared by it, and he would probably have sent me flying if I hadn't seen it coming and reacted.

I drove up to visit my parents yesterday (they live in a small town north of me), and had a hair appointment there beforehand. I had a few extra minutes before my appointment, so drove over to the nearby park and ran around it. Even as I was considering it, I thought, Who is this person? I knew I wasn't going to have a chance for much activity otherwise, as dad just had knee surgery and mom has COPD so isn't very mobile. In the past, I would have just gone in early and sat around until my stylist was available. I only got about 1/3 of a mile but it was better than nothing!
After my appointment, I picked up Subway sandwiches and drove over to my parents. My dad was mowing their front yard with a push mower when I got to their house, two days after knee surgery. That man doesn't stop! He said nobody told him not to....lol. He's obviously doing well. Mom just got a portable O2 machine so she can get around more. She said now she can go down to the local fitness center and start exercising! My dad goes down there once in a while, and since membership is free for them through insurance, I really hope she will join him.
This morning, I took the dogs out for 4 miles. My knee spoke up a little when we were going up a slight incline, so we walked that, but I was able to run again after the top of the hill and had no more issues with my knee.
I DID experience cadence lock with my Garmin for the first time though! It showed my HR had shot up near the end of the run but it didn't feel any harder. I slowed way down and it didn't make any difference, so stopped completely and did a quick manual check. That didn't match up so I started running again and just ignored what it said for the last half mile. It seemed to resolve itself after I stopped though.

I don't know if it could possibly have been any nicer this morning. It was 60F and just starting to get light. It wasn't cloudy and the sky was a perfect light blue. I enjoyed my run so much. I ran 6.22 miles. I'm sure next week we will be back to typical Texas summer mornings, but I sure have enjoyed my runs this week. It was a pretty uneventful run, but just a beautiful morning to be out.
@eleanorhawkins That is crazy! Some people should not have dogs! But some people, like @shanaber, definitely should. Look how happy Hobbes looks!
