So, what MMORPGs are everyone playing? A few weeks ago I just started playing WoW for the first time ever, which actually surprises my friends because they all assumed I'd been playing since launch day (it is exactly the sort of game I would play). I hadn't because in the past I generally avoided subscription-based games. The free trial was fun enough that I got a one month subscription, I'll see how that goes and decide if I want to spring for BfA.
I'm open to suggestions. I think I'll try the demo for FF XIV, any other games worth checking out? FWIW, I have Path of Exile, but haven't played that in a long time.0 -
the only one I play is LOTRO (lord of the rings online).
I was in Best Buy back in the winter and was talking computers with one of the employees and mentioned I played that, and he looks at me and says "that game is actually still online?" *sigh*
I find that I can't play most of the newer MMORPGs because I get motion sickness from the controller style these days--the mouse controls the camera in a lot of these games and you can't seem to lock the camera from one angle or zoom out far enough for me to be able to handle them. It only takes a few minutes to hit me, too At least with LOTRO, I have the old school style where you point on the skill you want to use and the camera stays fixed where you put it, unless you turn lock on target on. But that game has its areas I can't play for long either, especially in the dense forest regions or windy dungeon areas (hence why I still have never completed Mines of Moria, despite having bought that expansion years ago.......)
I tried Arch Age when it came out and while I liked the game mechanics, I hated the game play and rules.2 -
I ran across this in one of my Facebook groups for programmers. I still think it's hilarious!

Speaking of motion sickness, I'm not one to generally be bothered by it in video games. But I recently got an Oculus Rift S (on launch day, in fact), and the one game I have issues with is the race car driving game "Assetto Corsa". It isn't nausea, more like dizziness or disorientation. I'm pretty sure it's because visually I see that I'm sitting in a car and driving, but my inner ear can feel I'm really sitting still. The worst is when I'm in a corner so the car is rotating, and I turn my head at the same time. Then I get the feeling that I'm tipping over on to my side!
The space flight sim "Elite: Dangerous" (which is spectacular in VR, BTW) doesn't give me the same sensation. I think because you don't have the same up-close visual motion cues like you do in a car on the road.0 -

I went to the local Ren Faire on Saturday (and dressed up of course!) I had been given 2 complimentary tickets but couldn't find someone to go with me, so I just gave the other ticket away. Probably for the best, though: I was able to enjoy the faire and geek out to my heart's content, which also means getting to spend 45 minutes with one of the people running one of the games talking LOTR books versus movies, her favorite sci-fi stories, RPG games, and story worlds we'd love to invent and play in. The lad running the game next door also came over for input. It was a glorious conversation and we had a blast - and I didn't have people looking at me like I needed a straight jacket, either
It's refreshing to have folks who understand when I talk about having characters in my head who talk to me and argue with me; most people I deal with on a day to day basis, including my family, think I need to be put on medication!
speaking of which: did anyone else see the movie "The Man Who Invented Christmas"? In the scenes where the characters seem to come to life for Dickens, especially near the end when they are arguing with him and he's trying to escape them but they pop up everywhere he goes - that's what I'm talking about. Sometimes I think I spend more time in the world in my head than the real world......lol6 -

LOTRO it is. Its aged. But its still fun and the story is there. Grindy at times, I don't mind much.0 -

It does have its grindy moments for sure, and I hear it can be worse down in Gondor (because sadly, I've been playing the game for 8 years and still haven't gotten to the end game content lol) but I still love the scenery and the story for the most part, the other players who are actually helpful usually. Nice thing about an older game is that you don't tend to have all the troll-types playing there.

I'm playing divinity original sin for the first time. That's proving to be a fun experience. Though challenging too. I'm in the second area, and finding almost all the fights are ,4-10 levels higher then my party is. Maybe I'm just wandering into the wrong area's, but I've had my party 1shoted, and two shoted a few times now.1

I've never actually played a pen and paper RPG, but have always wanted to; it looks like great fun! My best friend and I have tinkered with various systems over the years, but neither of us have ever actually played before, so its kind of hard to figure out how a game is supposed to be run while at the same time figuring out how to play.
I recently picked up a copy of Basic Fantasy, hoping that perhaps I can figure that one out, and because its old school. Anyone have any experience with that one?
I don't know anything about Basic Fantasy, but do you have the Dungeon Masters Guide?
I have an old school copy of D&D from 1983. This was before TSR went bankrupt and WotC took it over.
Though, we have quite a few guides from 3rd, 3.5, 4th and Essentials as well.
Seeing this brings back memories....
I used to have a vast collection of all the books for D&D of that era. Not just basic. But, all of the AD&D 1E, 2E (MASSIVE amounts of books for 2nd...) and 3E. Started playing when I was 7, and continued well into my 30's. Was even a TSRO for a few years when TSR started on AOL, then moved to the web.
But, due to work, family, etc. I wound up getting out of it because my group fell apart and the next closest one just didn't mesh with that well.
Sold my entire collection. But, kept the PDF's from the 2nd Ed. CD rule set a few small dice and a half dozen miniatures. Wound up buying the 2E books again when they came out in the silver covers.
Ahh, some of the best memories were from gaming.2 -

So a couple years ago my neighbor told me grass and plants shoot up and basically explode the day after an electrical storm. My brain, of course went there, and a friend made me this -

well, I suppose if we set it on a cliff and it got knocked off on the head of a troll it would be worth the sacrifrice - if it managed to take the troll down in the process
