@rheddmobile - I had to look up leucistic blue jay. Very cool and very rare! I hope you can get a picture! I have been very intrigued by our local finches who seem to be very attracted lately to the block wall outside my office. There must be bugs or something there. Also we have a family of hummingbirds that are fearless and seem to watch all the goings on in the backyard. They come right up on branches, just a foot or so away, land and chatter at me.

I took my watch in yesterday to see if it can be fixed. They had to send it out and are saying 5-7 days for the turnaround... but also said they usually just replace it so it could be later this week. I am hoping maybe Friday as I would really like to have it back for my long run this weekend. I feel like I am going through withdrawals without it. I don't think I realized how many things I depend on it for during the day beyond just time and workouts (notifications of texts and calls, bugging me to stand up and move, weather and temps outside, etc., etc., etc.). I keep looking at my wrist like a dummy, for something that isn't there. I also have a very obvious watch tan line that looks pretty strange.
Non-running day for me today but I have strength training this afternoon! I think we are going heavy again today!10 -
5 miles today. I remembered that I can program my treadmill, so I set it up for what should have worked out to 9 miles, but then I didn't feel like running for that long, so I didn't. Maybe tomorrow.
The car flashed it's light at me when I started it today, instead of just as I arrived at my destination. Still haven't addressed the spare. My husband said that one of his friends had the sensors removed from his tires. "But," I said "that would mean the light stays on all the time." "Yes," he said. "But, if I didn't have a problem ignoring the light, I could just leave the faulty sensors in the tires!" Do you guys think I should use electrical tape or school glue and maybe a small sequin or button to cover the stupid light on the dash? Hot melt glue? I don't want to leave any sticky residue or damage the dashboard plastic. I tend to drive my cars until they're ready for the junkyard (not so much a next driver) but I'm trying to be hopeful about replacing it before it crumbles to rust in the driveway.

Another 2-part run day, this time before and after work. I sat around a little too long this morning before deciding I really should get out for a short run in case I didn't have time after work. The dog started laying it on thick with neediness about that time, so I decided that although it never works very well, I'd try the kill two birds approach and try a short run with the dog. It worked marginally better than I expected. She was game for the first 10 minutes or so and then started lagging behind and wanting to stop and sniff ever two feet. And then the brakes went on a couple of times. I kept her moving pretty well though for about 20 minutes total and we finished about 1.6 miles.
I brought run clothes with me to work also with the thought that I might, but probably wouldn't also run after work for a little while. It was an exhausting day so I really didn't want to, but when I went outside it was so nice. I changed my clothes and got in the car - in another two birds attempt, I decided to park at the grocery store and run the trail from there so I could grab food for dinner after. The run was almost thwarted by having brought only shorts with no pockets and no flip belt or anything else to carry my keys and phone. But I struggled on by tying my key to my shoe and carrying the phone. I don't know why I but I also felt very stiff and sore getting started on this run. It was not my favorite run but I wanted at least 3 miles and ended up with 3.5, so good enough.
Closing in on my goal for the month. With two days left I should in theory have no problem getting 4.7 miles done. But both tomorrow and Saturday's schedules are weird (I'm putting long run off to Sunday) and I am having trouble solving the puzzle of when to get a run in either day. 6:30 tomorrow morning is the correct, but unpopular answer.8 -

You could pull out the dash and remove the light bulb.1 -

Me too! Cool, will have to watch for them... though I have not even seen a regular blue jay here yet.

@autumnblade75 - most craft type stores and even maybe Target and Walmart have lots of fun decorative tapes used for planners and such that you could pick from to cover it and change out as your mood shifted...
@katharmonic, @rheddmobile and others who go out to eat, shop and/or run errands after you run... How do you manage being all gross and sweaty after you run and then doing these things? Or maybe it is just me who is all drippy, sweaty and gross and would never go anywhere except a shower like that. I even take a jacket/cover of some type for after I do strength training at the gym, if I need to go somewhere. I have thought about going to Starbucks on some long runs for an iced something that I could order and pay for with my phone but I haven't even been able to do that...
Oh and a replacement watch is coming... soon I hope...soon...2 -

This is something I have always asked myself as well when I read or see photos of people doing stuff after a run! No matter what deodorant I use, I STINK after anything longer or harder than a couple of very easy miles.

You could pull out the dash and remove the light bulb.
I know I won't go back and put it in before I sell, though. I know I suggested it, myself - but it really seems like too much work.1 -

I actually spent some time shopping for small stickers last time this happened, before it reset itself. I had a mental image of a pink donut with a smiley face on it... But I really am concerned about residue. Something in the "post-it note" category ought to fit the bill pretty well for low-residue.

Oh, I'm for sure gross and sweaty. I wouldn't go to a restaurant* or shopping for clothes or anything, but I will run in to the grocery store or to get coffee. I will sometimes throw on a sweatshirt or long sleeve if I can. I usually have a towel in my car too. But really, I figure I'm not the worst thing people have seen (or smelled) and they can tell from how I'm dressed that I was just working out/running - and stay clear . Who cares, really. There are a couple of coffee places I frequent after running, as do a lot of other runners, and they often ask how far I ran, or how it was today. Go get that Starbucks if you want it! I promise no one cares.
*Actually, I have done this a couple of times with a group of runners. I managed to change at least my shirt if not my whole outfit and use wipes to clean up a bit.

There is a coffee shop walking distance from our weekly Parkrun. About 30 of us go over there every Saturday morning to visit while the organizers post results. A few runners change shirts in the restroom but most don’t. Several of us choose to sit outdoors in the patio. We see many runners in there that were not part of the event too.2

I have done the "duck into the bathroom and change clothes" thing to go eat with other runners. But I did wait a while to cool down so I was not pouring saltwater out of my pores all over the place first

Same here. I don’t think I sweat excessively but I do sweat easily, even after an easy mile or two. My gym has bathrooms but no showers, so I’ll bring a small towel and a change of clothes and do a sponge bath if I have errands to run. I’ve done the same thing after races if there are immediate food plans.
When I first started running I was terribly uncomfortable being seen in public in workout clothes - I have social anxiety disorder, so anything that causes even the slightest bit of embarrassment can be crippling. It took a long time before I felt comfortable being seen by people on the running trail, and even longer to be comfortable around random people on the street, but I got there eventually. I used to cross the street during the two block walk to the running trail if I saw someone coming (I used to do that even when I wasn't wearing workout clothes - progress!). I'm still not quite at the point where I could go into a business after running unless I'd had time to cool down and was going to duck into a bathroom fairly immediately. I'm working on it.6 -
i need to clean the poo up in my backyard. so then i can use the full back yard instead of sticking to the cement. i couldn't run the puppy. it was late and i didn't want to hook up the other 3 either. so i did a 5k on a .02mi path. the puppy joined me for some of it carrying a stick. joy wasn't thrilled about staying out. cuddler was happy to sit and survey the yard.9

Notes:
Once again it's been a few days since I last updated; life is getting really busy again! I had an amazing track workout Tuesday night, definitely a huge break through moment for me. Was planning to do 4x 1M repeats with a goal of 7:30 per mile and 3' rest between them. The first one was a little fast (7:24), and I felt so good that the rest were even faster! Only took 2' rest between instead of 3, and I managed 5 repeats instead of the planned 4! The other four were 7:16, 7:16, 7:14, and 7:03. I left the track with the biggest smile ever on my face!
My legs were, predictably, very tired and sore on wednesday. I was planning to run in the morning before work, but decided I needed the extra sleep so instead I drove out to the trail after work and did my usual 5.5-ish mile loop. I took it nice and easy, and even walked up part of the two steepest hills to give my poor legs a little break!
Yesterday was another workout run- 5 miles at goal HMP with a mile each warm up and cool down. I recently bit the bullet and purchased a pair of the nike vaporfly 4%, so I figured this run was a good chance to test them out before race day. I could tell right away that my legs were still not recovered from my tuesday track session and that this run was going to be a struggle. I managed to push through all five miles and keep it under goal pace (goal was ~8:00), but my HR and RPE were much higher than I had hoped. Mile splits were 8:04, 8:01, 7:54, 7:51, 7:43 though I stopped for ~1 minute during mile 3 to wait at a light and another ~1 minute after mile 4 to catch my breath. Honestly the only reason that I didn't stop and jog it in after that 4th fast mile was that I didn't want any 'serious' runners to see me slow jogging in the 4%s
My legs are super dead today. I'm planning to run home from work, but I will probably walk the last half mile to my apartment which is all uphill (100+ ft elevation gain in that half mile ). I am seriously looking forward to having an easy/taper week next week!
Also, officially hit my mileage goal for the month (180) as of wednesday! With the runs I have scheduled today and tomorrow, it looks like I will finish the month at 199 miles, so I will probably have to add an extra mile somewhere to make that a nice, even 200. Highest mileage month ever!

At the beginning of August I had set my goal as 40 miles since I wasn’t sure how my hip would do. Things went remarkably well and I currently am at 48.4 miles for the month. Parkrun tomorrow morning will put me just over 50 which was last month’s goal. I’m looking at using a 15k training plan to continue building mileage. I found one that includes yoga/core/strength training on alternate days that I think looks reasonable. I’m not training for a race, but I like having plans in life. I don’t do spontaneity well. Perhaps that’s something else I need to work on.8

I have thought about going to Starbucks on some long runs for an iced something that I could order and pay for with my phone but I haven't even been able to do that...
Oh, I'm for sure gross and sweaty. I wouldn't go to a restaurant* or shopping for clothes or anything, but I will run in to the grocery store or to get coffee. I will sometimes throw on a sweatshirt or long sleeve if I can. I usually have a towel in my car too. But really, I figure I'm not the worst thing people have seen (or smelled) and they can tell from how I'm dressed that I was just working out/running - and stay clear . Who cares, really. There are a couple of coffee places I frequent after running, as do a lot of other runners, and they often ask how far I ran, or how it was today. Go get that Starbucks if you want it! I promise no one cares.
*Actually, I have done this a couple of times with a group of runners. I managed to change at least my shirt if not my whole outfit and use wipes to clean up a bit.
We walk after running so usually cool down past the actually dripping part of being sweaty. I have a towel and wipes in the car, and I swap shirts. My hair stays pretty wet during the summer though, but it’s up so it’s not obvious. I also usually sit outside on the patio or in a less formal seating location when possible. We don’t go anywhere very formal, usually a sandwich shop.
I grew up going out with friends after horseshows while covered in dust, mud, and muck, sometimes to very fancy places, so I have no shame.7 -

Great job on the runs everyone. I am on my way home from another trip to Florida where I did NOT do any exercise to count. My granddaughters and I did go out for a couple of bike rides and a very short walk/jog. They are 7 and 10 and think they can do more than they can. LOL At least they wanted to do something this time. Usually they don't. I'm pretty sure the 7 year old wanted to jog just to see what my Garmin did. Hey, anything that gets them out there. Right?
I am going to do my best to get back on track after I get home tomorrow. The minor league baseball season is over, so that is one less thing to take up my exercise time. I had found a 5K race I was going to do the end of Sept - the Conquer the Cave 5K in Woodville, Alabama. Went to register, and registration is already closed. Shoot! They limited it to 600 people, I think. That was going to be my motivation. Need to find something else that looks interesting to me. If anyone has any suggestions, I'll take them. Would like to find something within about a 4 - 5 hour drive from Greeneville TN.
Google the State of Franklin Track Club. They have a race calendar for races I Kingsport, Johnson City, Bristol and surrounding areas.1 -
I hope to get 50 miles this month. I had an uneven start.
8/2...2.12 miles.
8/3....3.1 miles.
8/7....5.27 miles.
8/9...Indiana State Fair.
8/11...4.2 miles.
8/13....4.11 miles.
8/17.....6.2 miles
8/21...Cutting the grass. Too late for a run. Sun had already set.
8/23....4.01 miles...After cutting the grass. Able to get a short run in before the sunset. Weather was cool, in the 70's.
8/24...7.06 miles. Weather was a little warmer,in the low 80's but not humid. No leg fatigue but noticed that I wasn't able to relax. It seemed like a long run.
8/28....6.08 miles. Weather in the 70's. I ran late in the day. Was able to get most of these miles in before the sun set. Really good pace. My legs felt strong.
8/29....7.33 miles. Cool weather. Ran these miles in the middle of the day after visiting my dentist. Wanted to quit after 3 miles....gutted the rest of the miles. Only managed a couple of sprints which I used to "not get hit by cars" at those crossroads.
total....49.48 miles
goal...50 miles.
Oh. I wish I knew how close I was. I plan to run a couple of miles after my work shift. I should make goal.
It is my last shift before going to Yellowstone park. So excited!
My husband went to ortho surgeon on Tuesday and was diagnosed with a sprain. He has been limping for weeks.
Probably will be running low miles in September due to the Wyoming trip. I am hoping to do some hiking with my husband, but it depends on his knee.

8/30: 6.3mi recovery run. 60min. Tonight I’m hitting the high mtns with friends to run some peaks!

Today was not an ideal run. Not sure what happened. I ran only 1.7 miles and then had to stop and empty my guts on the side of the road. I stopped my Garmin and started to walk home, but then was feeling better so ran 9 more miles. 🤷♂️9
