@hamsterwheel6 hey well done! Seems like you managed the race well.

@hamsterwheel6 Great race!!! Always a positive when you beat your target time.1

Thanks, it felt pretty good!0 -
@MNLittleFinn That is incredible. I panic when I plan to do a 10K. Not sure how I'd feel if I thought I was going to do 200 miles!!! You are amazing, no matter the pace!
@mbaker566 Awww. What a cute little foster. You are a brave soul after your last episode only days ago. I think I'd be terrified for a while.
@PastorVincent That's not good! I thought it was bad when my breaks went out once. Not being able to steer and having a wobbling tire would be much worse.
@T1DCarnivoreRunner Oh no! I hope it isn't anything major and you get back to normal quickly.
@hamsterwheel6 Great race and great first race report! I have no advice as I still consider myself a novice runner and my longest run is a 10K. Would love to run that half one day - or maybe the AF marathon I just heard about in Dayton OH, since I am retired AF and spend close to 5 years at Wright Patterson.

Hello everyone!
I actually stuck to my plan today woo hooo. So got up at 6am, did some strength training then went for a run. I may swap those over because my knees after all those squats weren't the happiest, though they got better as the run went on. It was only 3ks today but a lovely 3k.
I'm doing a personal 8 week challenge, using fitness blender. I AM going to do the whole challenge. Feels good.

I had that happen once too. I had to choose between taking my entire family off a cliff and dropping my truck in to park while at speed. Cost me $2500 for a new transmission, but I think I made the right choice. This was very mild compared to that. I was able to pull off the road and call AAA for a tow. All in all, it went fairly well. Got new part on the Jeep and should be good to drive to work in the AM.

Are you doing the cross training challenge that is 3 days a week? I just started that today. I love FitnessBlender. I always use one of their yoga/stretching videos before I run.2 -
I'm sort of proud of myself this week. I did run 3 days this week, following my plan. I readjusted my schedule, so that the days I couldn't do anything I missed cross training days instead of running days. So, I had 3 rest days and one day of mowing the lawn. Anywho, I am also trying to figure out how to get a little faster and how to do the "long" runs at an easy pace. I know most of you hate the treadmill, but it sure does help me pace myself. That being said, on Friday, I did my scheduled 25 minute run on the treadmill. It's still too hot to run outside in the late afternoon here. I ran 1.5 minutes at 6.0 mph and then 1.5 minutes at 5.0 mph, then 1 min of walking at 3.6 mph. (I am doing the Jeff Galloway method and 10K training plan.) So, my pace for the 2.2 miles I managed in a little over 25 minutes was 11:47/mile. That's the first time I've had a pace under 12 minutes in years! I'm making progress. I'm also pretty much on track to make my goal this month. I'm at 23.55/50 miles.9

I ran 10.25 miles this morning. It was a really lovely run. I had to get up extra early today so I could be at church early to play handbells. I started my run with a beautiful full moon and ended it with a lovely sunrise. It wasn't quite fall weather, but it wasn't too hot. It was only 69°F, so under 70. 😄 I saw a couple of deer, a doe and a fawn and one cottontail. There were probably others I just didn't see since it was dark for a good part of the run. All in all it was a great run!

@quilteryoyo
Great job. The treadmill can be a great tool.
Yup. It's been a week. Idk, it didn't really scare me. It wasn't personal. I was in her way.
I could have opted out but they gave me a nice chill dog. He's currently snoozing on my lap6 -
Completed the Jack & Jill Downhill HM today. My 25th HM!! I will do my race report when I get home on Tuesday or earlier if I can get it done on the road. I also exceeded my goal for the month so I am going to raise it up to 75.

No run this morning, got up at 6am to pick girlfriend up from train station. Maybe tonight.
@mbaker566 Hope you're feeling better! How's the verdict on when you can go back to running?
@PastorVincent That was scary. Although you are quite fearless and cunning and have cheated death many times...
@quilteryoyo Sounds like you're doing great!
@hamsterwheel6 Great race and great report.
Yesterday I spent the morning watching the Japan Olympic trials for the men and women's marathon on TV - well streaming on my laptop and projected to TV but you get the picture. It was probably the most exciting race I've seen in a while - the leader got swallowed up by a 9-man chase group at 37km and the winner pounded out the last 2.195km with two guys hot on his heels, in 2'11", uphill! (More about it here.) Feeling quite inspired today.9 -

I should probably do cross training lol but no I'm doing the 8 week program for busy people, only 30 mins a day. I'm planning on running on NON-HIIT days. And I'm going to have to do my running before the workout haha.
I love FB. I lost 20kg using their programs and have kept it off.3 -

I wasn't trusting it - I was trying hard to hold it in, because I definitely didn't trust it.2 -

@hamsterwheel6 great job on your 1st race report! As far as helping getting through those last few miles, I would say just keep training consistently and increase mileage a bit. It's amazing how the body adapts to challenge.
WTG @shanaber on your 25th HM!!4 -
Got up fairly early yesterday and ran five miles. The temperature wasn’t too terrible - I will be glad when Fall arrives to Georgia. I will be in the Finger Lakes, NY next weekend, so I am greatly looking forward to the cooler temps there instead of my normal sauna. 😁

@PastorVincent Yes, I think you made the correct choice to demolish your transmission rather than your family. Fortunately, I was in town when my brakes went out and, with coaching from my husband, was able to continue and drive it to the shop before it closed. It was scary though. Glad you have managed to avoid a catastrophe with your vehicle issues.
@mbaker566 You are awesome. Glad you didn't take it personally and that this foster is chill.

Yesterday's workout called for goal pace repeats.
15 min warmup, 8 min cooldown
3x3 min at ~10:08 = 9:51, 9:43, 10:02
5x30 sec at ~8:38 = 7:33, 8:20, 7:25, 7:37, 8:27
As with my speed repeats earlier in the week, I ran them too fast. It didn't feel too hard though so I feel really good about it. For most of the recovery periods, I walked 2/3 of the time then started running slowly before the next interval.
When I got home and took off my socks, I found a bruise on the top of my foot. A bit of internet searching, followed by a visit to the urgent care ruled out a fracture. I am able to walk on it, doesn't really hurt. Running was a little tender. Possibly a stress reaction. She said I can run - easy - lay off the speedwork for a week and ice after every run, but pay attention. If I follow her instructions and it still hurts, or gets worse, then I should return.
Today is a rest day.12 -
Congrats to all the racers over the weekend! I read and liked all the reports. Fantastic job, everyone!

Monday morning run for the second week in a row. Hopefully this is a schedule I can keep up with for the next couple of weeks at least until my taper begins. It was a nice fall-like morning at about 59 degrees and I was trying out a new pair of shoes. After yesterday's long run I definitely knew I needed those shoes ASAP, so I went to Fleet Feet and got fitted again. I went with Brooks Ghosts instead of the Glycerins I had been wearing. They feel good so far, a little lighter than the Glycerins, and I definitely noticed my knees were feeling better during this morning's run. New cushioning is much appreciated.12 -
My intent was to get up early yesterday and run 10 trail miles but I didn't hear my alarm. I no longer had time for a morning run so stayed home and worked on our landscaping instead.
I really wish I had gotten up early enough. It was low 60's F at that point. Instead I went out just before sunset when it was nearly 80F. What a slog. Between the heat and the sore legs from the run Friday, I was not having a great run, but I did get 9 miles in and am now half way to my Sept goal. I finished the week with 40 miles, my highest weekly total since the end of March and I might make this my highest mileage September ever and, baring injury, I'm on track for my highest mileage year as well.
I have the Surly Trail Loppet Half Marathon this Saturday, a race sponsored by a local brewery. I'm trying to decide how much, if any, I want to taper. On one hand I want to do well and beat last years time of 2:08 (This is my 3rd time running it) and on the other I want to continue my build up for my 12 hour race next month. I'll probably cut back a little just do short, easy runs with some strides, just to keep my legs fresh.

@rheddmobile Congrats on your finish, and congrats to your husband as well!
@ariceroni first 50k, how exciting!!
@T1DCarnivoreRunner glad you had a fun 5K. Did you move to Memphis? Good luck with your upcoming marathon
@Lazy_Bones_85 forgive my ignorance but what exactly is a "pace run"? A run at target race pace? Threshold pace? I don't think I've heard that term.
@JMNagain phones are notoriously inaccurate for tracking distance during a run. It's what pushed me to buy my first GPS watch. If a new one is out of the question, look for a used one. I've bought three, all used, and all significantly less than the retail price. If you have an account with Strava (they're free, with an option for a "premium" account) they have a feature where you can create a route online so you can check the distances you're running. Not 100% accurate, but more accurate than your phone. I think you could also do this with a free account on mapmyrun.com
@autumnblade75 LOL!!!
@hamsterwheel6 great race report and great job on your first HM! I like writing race reports for two reasons...first, it helps me relive the moment. Second, I've often learned something from other people's race reports, particularly when I first started running, so perhaps someone might learn something from mine.
@shanaber - 25 HMs! WOW!! I've done 2. 6 if I count trail HM's.

Run with the youngest child, we did 5km at 7m/1m run/walk. Was a real battle for them but they pulled through. I am quietly very proud.
I then had to do an extra 1km, but with all the stop/start and the walk back to the house I didnt feel as though I got the full benefit.
7km next Sunday.
