Kelly Congratulations! Adorable new grandson! Thank you for sharing pic
Allie So sorry you have so many stressful things going on at once!! Hoping you have a chance to catch your breath soon! Hugs and prayers for you in the meantime. Glad your daughter and granddaughter are okay!!
Rita Scary reactions to your medicine! Sure hope it is under control quickly!!
Welcome Newbies! This is a wonderful group of women! Hope you enjoy the interaction and support as much as I do!
Today was a really tough day recovering from the baby shower. I still suffer ridiculous pain whenever I overdo since my injuries 11 years ago. I was unable to do anything but a little bit of stretching and DH rubbed my back for a few minutes. I wish I had access to a hot tub!! I get to a certain pain threshold and am stuck on the recliner in agony! I couldn't sleep at all last night...I finally drifted off for a nap this afternoon around 5. Still only a couple hours off and on. Hoping I can rest tonight and get going again tomorrow! There is not a place on my body that doesn't hurt today! Sigh!
Thanks for letting me vent! I try not to let anyone see this side of me, but you all are so open and kind I feel safe letting you know! Thanks, again!

Luci - of course you can vent here. Hope tomorrow brings you less pain!

Insomnia in Arkansas... the kids and grands are asleep, all piled up in the living room, so the work to put the spare bedrooms to rights was all in vain. But my daughter, who's 7 months pregnant tomorrow, can't get comfortable other than sleeping on a couch, and they all want to be together.
The dogs are asleep in the kitchen, and their presence in the house makes my husband very tight-lipped. Also means the cat is staying outside all night... I put her food and water outside. They're staying until Wednesday afternoon, so Egg will have to survive a couple of nights outside. She makes her own choices, too... *sigh* If you're wondering why we're putting up with it, it's because they're moving, not just visiting, so my yard is also completely filled with two pickups and two large panel trailers as well.
And, as far as Egg goes, even without the dogs, she won't come in the house when there are people here, either. Bless her, she's a cranky little kitty.
Not to say it's all been tension-filled, it hasn't. S'mores outside with the grands was fun (I'll steal pics from my daughter later, none on my phone). My husband put in an 11-hour day at work today, and probably will tomorrow as well, but it's that season for him. I've taken a day's vacation, so will spend the day surrounded by kids and dogs and catering to my lovely daughter, who is at the "I'm really tired of this" stage of pregnancy, bless her.
Ah well, hopefully I can head back to sleep. It's going to be an interesting week...
Love y'all,
Lisa in AR4 -
Popping in to say Hi
Finally heard from the kitchen fitter/electrician and plumber, work is starting on my new kitchen at the end of this month. It's going to cost quite a lot more than I thought it would. Hope it's going to be worth it!
Taking Maggie the cat to the vet for her last (I hope) follow up appointment, her eye seems a lot better now, and she is eating okay after having had 3 teeth extracted.
Allie sorry for your loss, but thankful your DD and DGS are okay.
Heather hope you feel better soon.
Luci hoping you get a bit of respite from your pain, constant pain is so debilitating, vent anytime it gets too much.
Kelly congratulations on the new grandbaby, he's gorgeous.
Time to get moving, I've been so long catching up time has gotten away from me again.
Have a great day everyone

Matchka thanks for combining all our answers to the hobbies challenge! Interesting variety but a lot of commonality too!
RV Rita enjoying the morning 60’s then afternoon 90’s here at Bottomless Lakes!
It is an interesting variety but with commonality ... and a lot of creativity out there.
Future Hobbies: At some point, when I've got some time, I'd like to continue learning languages and piano.
I've got some French and a tiny bit of a few other languages but would really like to become as close to fluent in French as I can ... and I'd like to learn the basics in Mandarin.
Way, way back when I got to Grade 3 piano (Royal Conservatory of Music), but stopped there. I keep thinking I'd like to get a piano and continue.

Good morning/afternoon/evening Gals.
Allie: (((Hugs))) Glad DD and DGD aren’t badly hurt.
Welcome Newbies! This is a wonderful group of supportive women! We’re prolific posters, but no one expects people to comment on all the posts. Just jump in as and when the spirit moves ya! 😂
Getting ready to go out to Patchwork Group. Back later.

LANETTE I agree with you re Alzheimer's series mostly stuff we've seen before
My DSIL same age as me is deteriorating rapidly in spite of never drinking or smoking healthy eating lots of walking and socialising reading crosswords etc
Makes you think doesn't it
HEATHER Hope you feel better soon

Hi all!
Feeling more energy today. Let's hope it continues. I feel as if a cloud has lifted. The whole world looks different!
DH is still suffering. I hope he can go dancing tonight, but I can go on my own if necessary.
Lisa - feeling for you. Guests are a very mixed blessing, but it is so good for you to reconnect with the grandchildren.
I have to get my tax return in by the end of the month. I still do it on paper, which I prefer, but have to get info online about savings interest etc. It never takes long once I get started, but I find myself resenting it as I am always way below the tax threshold. I haven't paid tax for many years, but because I have a tiny writing income, I still have to fill in the forms. DH 's is automatic. Of course, I'm always hopeful that one day my writing will earn me a fortune!
Struggling with editing my memoir and getting it into a readable form. At the moment it is all in fragments. Yesterday I made a start and found that the cutting and pasting was repeating itself, so I'm in a muddle. Grrrrrrr!
DH is worrying about his younger daughter who will probably be made redundant on Friday. She is in a highly paid editing job at a magazine (a dying trade) and has a London mortgage on an apartment she was trying to sell. In her late 40s she has the lifestyle of a 30 year old in London. Out every night, travel, etc. A seismic shake up coming, I feel. We have seen this coming for some time, but it doesn't make it any easier. Major transitions are a real shock to the system. Even if she survives this round of redundancy, it will come eventually.
I think there is a better, less superficial, more fulfilling life ahead, but DH just thinks I am being a Pollyanna.
Love to all and welcome to the newbies. Most of us don't do Friends, but just chat away on this thread.

Rebecca: 😂 🤣😂🤣😂 Winter canning!!!
Machka: Happy Days! You con do online at your leisure.
Heather: Glad you are feeling better. I always find the transition back to RL after a cruise is a bit of a downer. Hope DH is up to dancing tonight, although I’m sure you will make the most of it either way.
Doing tax returns can be such a bore. I’m fortunate that DYD is a chartered account, and does my tax for me. I did hope I could stop doing returns after we sold our rental property, but no such luck!
Much sympathy on the edit. I’m trying to edit/collate my poetry anthology at the moment, and it’s so time consuming.
Not good news about step-daughter. I hope she has had the sense to save some money against a rainy day.
Got on well at Patchwork. I am making a Christmas door wreath and managed to cut out most of the components at the session this morning.
Weather has turned cold/damp again so will be staying indoors this afternoon. I am planning to do some de cluttering!
Must get lunch started first.

Dad with Dementia- Finally found out what he needs so searched found blue jeans online cheap, stretchy, wrangler like he likes for his Birthday coming up y Christmas. Thought I was done discovering Daughter May possibly get leave for Christmas so now hurrying around to prepare her things to get Christmas stuff off her bed! Searching for things to do when she’s here etc. No time in the day!
Teaching JR words to get him advanced he’s starting to speak...or demand things not sure which lol. I want a Cat! I want shoes! I want cookie!

Good morning all! Happy Tuesday! I am home now, and back to my normal "hobby" of working and caring for my family. Due to Miguel taking his time being born, my vacation was anxious and exhausting (but I wouldn't trade my time there for anything). During Lauren's labor (24 hours) they had tried everything to get this little guy moving out. With every contraction, Miguel's heart rate would drop dramatically. As the time passed, Lauren's blood pressure dropped down to 80/48. They finally decided to do a c-section. When they got a hold of the baby, they found the cord was wrapped around his arm and shoulder and preventing him from moving any lower into the birth canal. But he was perfect. Lauren, however, spent the next 12 hours violently ill and with an allergic reaction to the drugs used in the epidural/pain control IV. We were also dealing the fact that my son-in-law's employer would not let him leave his post (he is in security) for the delivery. I had an angry and stressed pregnant daughter, an angry son-in-law, and a confused grandson (Joaquin) because he couldn't understand why he wasn't with mama or papa. But...it all turned out well. Everyone ended up where and how they were supposed to be. I got a giggle when Joaquin met his baby brother. Lauren had them both in the bed with her and she told Joaquin "This is your baby brother! This is baby Miguel! Baby #2!" Joaquin glanced at the baby, raised his eyebrows, and closed his eyes and turned his face away from him. Ignored him completely for the first day! lol This is the reaction I predicted, because this is the reaction I got from him while they visited us last summer. A very "if i don't look at you; you do not exist." lol
Anyway, at the beginning of the visit, we agreed to try to keep everything as normal for Joaquin as possible; so I would drop him at daycare in the mornings and then either head up to the hospital to be with Lauren while Jaime went to work. Jaime would arrive at the hospital after work, I would leave and pick up Joaquin from daycare, feed him, play and hang out with him until about 7 or 8pm, then head back up to the hospital to spend the night with Lauren and Miguel, then back to the house by 4:15am so son-in-law can go to work and my day would begin again. In the four days I was there, I got about six hours of sleep; (four of them were on Saturday night). Adrenaline is a powerful thing. lol
Rebecca the pics of Athena and family are wonderful!
Heather- So glad that you and DH enjoyed your cruise and I hope you both are over your illness. Hopefully, it was a matter of being very tired from vacation?! And needing some rest.
Rori- Ugh! adverse reactions to meds can be so scary! Hope you are feeling better!
Suebdew and other DFW area ladies- I just have to say Wow! I was so impressed with the hospital that helped Lauren! Texas Health Harris Methodist. Beautiful facilities. Large birthing and post partum rooms. Very helpful and accommodating to families. Wonderful bedside manner of all of the docs, nurses and surgeons. Can't say enough good things!
Machka- Hmmm...hobbies. One to make money...I guess that would be my job. (Children are a hobby, right?) HObby for exercise- that would have to be walking or hiking (I love being outside), hmmm...my current creative hobby is getting the house in shape. As I become a little more financially stable, I could see the hobbies changing to something a little more enjoyable and of my choosing. Like many of the others travel is a desirable hobby for me.
More of you I want to respond to, but kids are already here and I have been writing as I work. I better stop for now; before the patients take over the asylum. ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)5 -

I will have deadlines when the assignments are due, and the course is longer than the spring/summer courses I've taken which I'm not entirely thrilled about ... (about 13 weeks instead of about 5 weeks) ...
But not walking to/from the university 1-2 days a week and disrupting my work day will be very nice.
And not having to attend classes means that I can do my work anywhere. So if I take a break and we head off to a quiet cabin somewhere, I can work on my assignments there.
What I'm finding amusing is that this course is offered through the Marine department ... but my own IT department can't put together an online course if its life depended on it!!!
Rainy here too and supposed to be for the rest of the week. I suspect I'll be exercising inside this week .. and I got wet on my walk home!

Kelly what a gift, what a blessing that you were there for Lauren. All the best as you get back into the swing of things at home and pay off that sleep debt! You ran on adrenaline and love, now get some much needed rest.
NYKAREN3 -
Kelly, same thing happened with me with my first, he got stuck and his heart rate kept droppingso emergency c section, i ended up having an allergic reaction to something, and they kept Dan isolated . was in the hospital 11 days.. they never did figure out what it was.
but both my children are healthy thank the good lord.., doing laundry and then will run to walmart to get small travel stuff for our NYC trip.. change of undies and another shirt and thats about it. tonight the wake...3 -
KJ - Really hoping you can get some rest. What a wonderful mother/grandmother you are. I only got about a one hour visit from mine. My DMIL picked up the pieces, which is why I'm determined to be a good MIL/granny.
I was bright and breezy this morning, but, having been out to the shops to buy a card for DH, I now feel ropey and joint achey again. DH is definitely sick, so we won't go to dancing tonight. They will be rehearsing for the Performance Ball on Sunday, which we do hope to attend, so I'm not too sorry. We've missed two previous weeks of the rehearsals.
I will make his cake this pm. Edie specially requested the Whole Orange cake I made for her dad's birthday, so I boiled the orange this morning. The grandchildren will be coming to tea on his birthday. We also have Swedish meatballs.
Terri - I was all set to do some serious editing this morning, but when I turned on my laptop it told me it was updating and 'It will take some time.' Let me off the hook! I moved some photos around on my tablet instead.
Much love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx

Hi all, I love reading all your posts.
Lisa in AR I am so jealous it sounds fab, warm kitchen, kids and grandchildren and animals everywhere. My family are scattered all over this tiny island, the nearest being 2.5 hours drive away. There is just me and my OH and our dog living in a quiet village. Sometimes the peace is lovely but others I just wish the house was full.
Weigh in this week was my first and I only lost half a pound. Sulking but not giving up I was madly digging the garden on Saturday must have burned loads of calories! I am digging an area ready to grow veggies and berries. We have a large area left to clear of rubbish then we will get chickens. I also want a peaceful area to sit away from the house and OH when he is working on his old Landrovers.

The 7-months pregnant daughter is in full "nesting" mode, so went to the grocery store to get everything to make meatball subs for dinner with her dad's meatballs from the freezer. The funny part is, she never looked at what we had, so bought eveyr spice known to man, as well... No worries, they'll either take them with them, or we'll use them eventually. I leave both her and her father alone in the kitchen - they're the territorial chef types, and I could care less if I ever stirred another pot, so it works out I cooked for 27 years with my first husband, and don't miss it at all with the current and final husband.
Kim in the UK - Yep, I get how wonderful it sounds, and I actually enjoy the noise and the chaos, dogs and all (for short periods of time). Our Heather on this thread actually moved not that long ago, so she'd have that availability of being there with her grands. What I'm not fond of is my husband being angry with his daughter, having informed her he didn't want the dogs in the house when they spoke about it in July, and his not being willing to confront her and get it over with. He's the one with the objections, not me, but I get to be the one walking around on tiptoe, waiting for a blowup that probably won't happen, as that's a fear from MY childhood, I think. I need to get over it, as well. He will still love her, and she knows it, so she pushed it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Not my circus, not my monkeys. Or my dogs, for that matter. The best part is, being this age, I know it's not my problem to fix, it's theirs.
I'm thinking it's naptime - gray weather's come in, and brought massive sinus pressure with it, and me and the pregnant lady are retiring to separate bedrooms to nap while her hubby takes care of children and dogs. Yay!
KJ - I thought Joaquin was trying to disappear... and so glad that everything turned out well for young Miguel.
Love y'all,
Lisa in AR3 -
Katla was trying to comment on your 7 years logging in daily achievement when MFP went wonky on me. Con VERY gratulations on your inspiring dedication!
Allie thankful DD and DGD unhurt and that you were there for them. Would $15 in NYC even stretch to a hot dog and a coke? SMH.
Rebecca “winter canning” LOL!
Ginny, bruising from the foam roller? Did you do that yourself or did someone do that to you? Sounds extremely painful to me...
Michele please share more ceramics pics?
Kim in N. Calif thankful your Mom's visit was pleasant over all... and that the power didn't go out while she was there
Luci this is the safe place for sharing pain, tho' I am sorry to hear of your agony. Is there anywhere like on a patio or deck where you could put a small “portable” hot tub? If not, do you live near a large enough city that has a fitness/rehab center with a hot tub? Sounds like this is a therapy you really need.
Lisa I can just see your grin “surrounded by kids and dogs” and glad Corey can escape to work 11 hours of the day Are your kids and grands moving somewhere closer to you?
Viv New kitchen, hooray! Going to cost a lot more, alas, so it always goes.
Machka Last lecture today . . . Hooray!
Kate so sorry to hear about your DSIL's decline despite her healthy lifestyle.
Heather Polyanna on, your vision may be just what DH's younger daughter needs. saved by the automatic updating
Amber you are doing a great job with JR.
Kelly I'd say the inventive way you educate and entertain your charges qualifies as “creative” . . . BIG time.
Have a looong (I know you're shocked ;} ) story about Joe and miracles, but he just announced that Tumble is antsy and I should consider getting up from the computer. Donch'a just hate it when they're RIGHT?

OMG!
DH set about researching the cruises we looked at while we were on board and looked at the different cabin prices. A superior twin in the same corridor as our suite was available for almost half the price . So we have booked it! :drinker:
It's ten days in Norway in the spring. Visiting the country's biggest fiord, plus Ålesund, an Art Deco town.
OK, I have just had a phone call from Saga, and they have given us more money off as frequent cruisers.
Well, that has cheered me up!
It is the last season for the old ship, so it will be a sentimental journey.
Love Heather UK xxxxxxxx7 -
Barbara - yes, they'll be about a six-hour drive away, up in Kansas, instead of 18 hours to North Carolina. Sounds just about right to me, as it's great for like a four-day weekend, but too far for an every month kind of thing. I'm fine with three or four times a year, or even just twice... Corey saw the daughter and granddaughter in July, but this is the first time I've seen them since we left North Carolina in April 2018.
On mine and Corey's side, It's possible we've become too self-sufficient, too complacent in and of ourselves. I do worry about that on occasion... but still revel in a partnership that's as complete as ours together. Unfortunately for the kids, they either come see us, or they don't get to see us, at least for the next few years, as we're head down, getting the house & cars paid off before traveling.
Still debating on being there for Levi's birth, which right now is slated for Jan. 13 (third C-section, so there will be a good date ahead of time). His other grandma will be there, my son-in-law's mother, and really wants that very much... and I was there for my granddaughter's birth, and she couldn't make it for that one. Still thinking about it. Just might do it, but stay in a hotel, and let the other grandma do in-home childcare, which was my job last time. Something to think about.
And (not a political comment, I swear), but as they're both Army, things could change quite quickly with everything blowing up again in the middle East. We watch the news carefully... when my daughter isn't pregnant, she's part of the administration of a MASH unit, and my son-in-law is a Bradley tank mechanic. She's not eligible for world wide duty again until 90 days after Levi's birth, but the son-in-law is eligible anytime prior, or within 21 days after the baby's born. And Corey and I are the family care plan for the kids, should they both end up deployed. It's not an every-moment tension, but a low-key worry, especially when things are all scrambly overseas.
Anyway, off to my nap...
Love y'all,
Lisa in AR5 -

Kate I watched an interview with the wife of a man who had Alzheimer's disease. She noted how cruel it was that her husband, an intellectual academic who challenged his brain his entire life, led an active, healthy lifestyle, and in essence did everything right, ended up with Alzheimer's. She said it made her feel defensive on her husband's behalf when people would repeat the commonly held beliefs on how to prevent or postpone dementia, and that she felt much of it is just magical thinking. We all have to do the best we can, but also understand that we do not actually have control over many health conditions.
Carpe Diem!

Karen - I wholeheartedly agree. Too often people are made to feel guilty for entirely unpreventable and undeserved horrible illnesses. I am currently reading the new Susan Sontag biography, and she was one of the first to rail against this practice.. I hate it when people talk about 'battling' cancer etc. A devastating disease has nothing to do with your moral qualities. It is just life's lottery and NOT FAIR!
Too many marvellous and brilliant people have developed Alzheimer's. We can only hope.....
Love Heather UK xxxxxxxx7 -
Allie--glad your DD and DGD were not hurt.
Heather--Sounds like that cruise is just met to be. I love traveling with you.
Cool and windy here today and working 12 hour shift today and now picking up 8 hours on Saturday. Overtime is nice with Christmas coming, but I would love to have a day just to sleep.
Eating is better last couple days and happy about that. Even took the dogs for a walk last evening. Jake the pug wasn't happy about it, but I told him we have to do this and we both will live. Oscar was just happy to go.
Blessings, Vicki GI NE1
