Less Alcohol - DECEMBER 2019 - One Day at a Time

Lost my darn long post!
Any ways.........everyone have a great day.2 -
@dawnbgethealthy your mulled cider brewing or mulling (which ever is the correct term) looks delish. And that beautiful stem ware you teased us with.... GOURGOUS! I had iced tea last night in festive Christmas stem ware while people were over and they knew no better that it was AF. Lol
Did you suffer Christmas shopping headache @LoveyChar ?, UGH. 🤕
It wasn't too bad...the busiest place we walked into was Ross's. The line extended out half way through the store. We were buying shoes for my little guy and since it wasn't a Christmas gift, my husband just asked if he needed those today. I said no and we put them back and walked out. I can't stand shopping but when I'm buying anything for anyone, I take my sweet time. I was buying body wash as stocking stuffers (they get candy, face masks, lip glosses, all sorts of things...) and I smelled them all. You could see my husband getting more impatient by the second. This is the reason we seldom shop together. We finished yesterday, though, and kids can get whatever else they want with gift cards and money after Christmas.3 -
6:33 am in Vegas another 24,wow that was a whirlwind shopping trip@LoveyChar! I wanted to go to the fancy mall on the Strip but I know there's probably 10,009 people there and my nerves are already shot so that might not be a good idea to go haha! It is always decorated so festive though but think I'll skip it this year, everyone sounds great, have a fabulous day all 🤗6

My goal is 16-20 AF days for the month.
I didn't get there in October, ended up with 10 or 11AF days
November tally 19AF days out of 30 days.
New month : - )
December 01 - 3 drinks
December 02 - AF
December 03 - 3 drinks, Tuesday.
December 04 - AF - Time to rack up a few AF days before all of the holiday festivities. Or at least try to get back to 2AF days in between drinks days.
December 05 - AF
December 06 - 3 drinks - I felt them more than usual, just 2 AF days, but they really hit me. Mind you, I barely eat during the day when I am running around working. I am thinking of you @Womona when you say that they are hitting you more strongly since you have cut down. Many glasses of water since the drinks, and off to bed soon.
December 07 - AF - had the urge several times, just waited it out.
December 8 - A bunch of drinks starting with a tree decorating at a friend's place. Tried to keep it at a half shot per drink to stay less alcohol. Kind of lost track, but they were all very small. All good. Planning on AF tomorrow. Tuesday is yet to be seen.
December 09 - AF
December 10 - AF - Yes, it is a Tuesday, my designated drinks day, but I am having a very busy week and have a party to go to on Friday where I might have drinks, so skipping the drinks tonight.
December 11 - AF - Really fought that urge many times after work, but stayed AF. Trying to rack a few up before all of the holiday parties.
December 12 - AF. Made up a pot of Mulled Wine to take to the party tomorrow night. Tasted it a few times with a fraction of a teaspoon and adjusted the sugar, but am not counting that. I really wanted to have a few glasses of it because it tasted so good, but I will have some at the party tomorrow. AF 4 days in a row for the first time @MissMay!
December 13 - Mulled wine. So glad that I didn't give in to it Thursday night while cooking it, because it tasted amazing having sat 24 hours. Feeling a bit foggy today (the 14th).
December 14 - AF
December 15 - 3 drinks. Started with the leftover mulled wine that wouldn't fit in the vessel to take to the party (2 or 3 ounces), then kind of went "well, not going to be an AF day. That is how it goes for me. AF tomorrow for sure.
December 16 - AF
December 17 - Tuesday, 3 drinks. I definitely eat more, and different things when I have alcohol, which is one of the very big reasons to decide to cut back. At my own pace. Your post about other ways to de-stress @MissMay is so lovely and important. I am still using booze to numb myself and relax after stressful days. For sure I understand that deprivation leads to bingeing, so I am not depriving myself by giving myself "drinks days" but I still think that I can do better. I still eat sandwiches, but I only eat 1/2 of one now, for instance. By cutting back on drinking I am limiting the days that I do it. Work in progress.
December 18 - AF - Planning on Champagne at midnight at a party in Northern Idaho with some close friends on NYE. I have decided that I am going to make and bring hot spiced cider to have around the bonfire and leading up to midnight. Not a heavy drinking crowd. I won't be AF for the last night of the year, but I will be less alcohol. Yes, planning in advance.
December 19 - 2 drinks. Extremely long work day, I didn't even have the energy to pour my 3rd drink.
December 20 - AF - Made a batch of mulled cider as a tester for a substitute to yummy mulled wine. It turned out pretty good and got me past a craving.
December 21 - 3 drinks. Delayed 6 times and was in situations where drinks were offered, and then finally...caved. I have at least 4 more drinks days planned before the month is over (including NYE) so I really hope to scramble together at least 4 more AF days before the month is over. Made up a giant pot of Mulled wine for 2 of those, but didn't have any, just a quick taste and yet again needed to add more sugar. It is mulling, as am I.
December 22 - AF - I made another substitute today, getting a repertoire of AF drinks together. I do love peppermint schnapps in hot chocolate when it is snowing like it was today, so I made Fry's Cocoa with peppermint extract and a bit of stevia. 20 calories total, and turned out pretty good! I will have to get some brandy extract too!
Running Tally: 13 AF day out of 21 days so far.3 -
drank half my normal last night. had bad dreams and woke up shaking, sweating, and in pain but i do not think it was from the dreaming.
tonight i do not plan on buying a bottle. probably should have tapered down longer but i realize i finish the bottle or pass out. hopefully i see you all tomorrow.
12/13 - well i made it till 7pm. then the wife found out only one day tapering before drinking again on the weekend. we went out and got a bottle to ration out. i set a less aggressive goal that shouldn't shock the body to much. slept great!
12/14 - had my rations last night. slept good. same rations today. less tomorrow. never has a bottle lasted so long
12/15 - epic fail.
12/16 - new week. i know i have the willpower to food diet so today i start my alcohol diet. again.
12/17 - slightly less. slept way to good. if i can resist buying a bottle on the way home, tonight will be just one night cap.
12/18 - well i did not catch a buzz from the night cap, i woke up many times last night, that means that i must have fell asleep just as many times, over 600 calories under goal without my normal whisky calories. going to try and not pick up a bottle till friday.
12/19 - did not have a good night. less then 2oz in the vodka bottle, drank it at 6pm. layed in bed at 11:30pm - followed my rules and didn't get out of bed till morning regardless of any sleep.
12/20 = very rough night but big dinner helped - 1100 calories under weight loss goal. first AF day since April 2.
12/23 - drank all weekend and entertained my best friend and his family. i am not sure if i will have an AF day this week due to holiday but i will strive for less.5 -

I am also one who has struggled with sleep problems since I was 7 years old. I assure that it had nothing to do with Alcohol, I was 7.
I do what you do, try to stay in bed and if not sleep then at least just rest my limbs. I have tried to get up and stuff, but that only gets my brain busy again.
The best that I can do is try to think of funny things or beautiful places. Ah sleep, so illusive.
Our busy world and our inner crap.
Hope that you are doing okay.
i used to say i wish days were 36 hours long. then i could sleep for 12 hours and stay awake for 24 hours. if i am not drinking i am tinkering with something.

@marcvb35 .....APRIL 2ND! WOW that is impressive. Congrats on your AF day you deserve a huge applause.
just a guess but 2019 has had the most sober days in my adult life. i did 20ish days early on this year, not in a row but tried to only drink on weekends. i would like to get back to that. or just a night cap.

Hi all! Merry Christmas to all those who celebrate!
Went on skiing vacation and got back a few days before a Christmas. Haven’t logged in to any trackers at all, so welcome all new people and those that haven’t been around in a while.
Good news is that when you ski every day, you burn so many calories you can pretty much eat what you want! Bad news is that I had my old two glasses of wine every night on vacation and slept terribly all week. So, back to one glass per night a few times per week, starting last night. I just couldn’t drink that 2nd glass of wine I poured.
It was good for me to be reminded of why I got away from being a two glass daily drinker. Going back to that on vacation made me realize how lousy it makes me feel.6 -
Merry Christmas!!! 🎄 Hope everyone has a safe, happy day!7

Hello all, hmmmm can not remember when I posted last LOL. All days run together this time of year.
Had many gatherings and folks here the past 7 days. Luckily I was controlled in my drinking. Only 4 standard drinks within a 7 day period. But, I had 3 days consecutive with one drink each day. GOOD NEWS is, it has been since June of 2018 ( a year and a half) since doing a 3 day consecutive drinking thing. WOW that shocked me. YAY YAY YAY
Everyone I hope had a great holiday whatever it is you celebrate. Yesterday Christmas I had a ton of cooking to do and stuck to hot peppermint tea and also stuck to not eating snacks late after dinner.
Going to be a GREAT 2020.
Happy healthy and LESS ALCOHOL wishes to you all🌲🕛❄9 -

We had a nice, although rushed Christmas day with our combined kids (adults 25, 36, 39). Had only 1 drink, some spiked eggnog early in the day... was on my feet with lots of cooking and last minute wrapping, so tired by the time I went to bed, overly tired and sore, took me a long time to fall asleep... but feel great this morning. No over indulgent after effects, and best of all no regrets or forgetfulness! Merry Christmas to me!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all of You!8 -
Hope everyone is doing well, I know this is a busy time of year for us, exhausting really but a fun time, 7:43 am in Vegas another 24 💖5

Good morning.
This time of year we all get run down, I thought it was just holiday hecticness wearing on me. But it appears I may have caught the flu from my client that was ill. Ugh.....oh that feeling, pretty much like a horrible hangover. Try to stand, start to sweat and head begins to spin. Sit or lay down for a few minutes( while dog thinks I am dying and tries to lick me back to life, I believe she could get a job on an ambulance crew) Anyhow this is the exact feeling I used to highly regret from consuming to much alcohol all at one time. Glad it is not from that any longer.
So after an hour I finally got all my ingredients into the crockpot to work it's magic to feed husband chicken cacciatore tonight.
Wishing everyone a wonderful last Saturday, last weekend in December and of the year.
Will post the link later today for the continuation of this thread for January 2020 to start off the new year.🕛

@MissMay feel better!!!! The flu is pretty nasty stuff. On the bright side, easy way to not drink alcohol!
Went to a party last night, only had one glass of wine. Huge improvement over the last two weeks! Next step is to cut out these holiday treats. My weight is creeping up at an alarming rate! Oh, but the Christmas cookies.....7 -
@MissMay I'm sorry you're sick! I'm a hairdresser and get soooooo pissed when customers come in sick cuz I ALWAYS get it! I swear my immune system was better when my blood was 80% alcohol all the time😆(bad joke) but it's true I do catch everything, I was sick Christmas Eve and Christmas day so it really put a damper on my happiness and ability to engage in what was going on and I almost had a resentment that I wasn't drinking , I became a non drinker to be present but I wasn't very present during the holiday cuz I was just to sick🤮 anyhoo, 6:58 am in Vegas another 24,@Womona hope you've enjoyed your holiday and it sounds like you've done a great job on limiting drinks, I've been a cookie eating machine too haha! Waves to the gang and wishes for a great day!6

December 23 - Mulled wine and other things. Likely the same for today and the next day too.
December 24 - AF - I cancelled my plans for tonight because I didn't think that I could resist drinks, and want to feel awesome tomorrow. I am taking the mulled wine tomorrow.
December 25 - Mulled Wine and other stuff.
December 26 - 3 drinks - running out of days to make my goal
December 27 - Mulled wine and other stuff.
Running Tally: 14 AF day out of 27 days so far.3 -
I’m in. Going AF (again) starting today. Need to lose 25 lbs and the scale just keeps going up. Time to get drastic and then create some better habits. Any help appreciated!5
-
Ladies I'm here checking up on y'all and cheering you on. It's been a busy couple of days. We celebrated Christmas Thursday and Friday. I'm trying to run my miles in for the month, see what I can get in. I hit over 100 today but I'm going to get a long run in tomorrow. Not sure if I'll have a drink on new year's eve or not...
@MissMay I hope you feel better soon.5 -
Wow, @strugglng18 , another Mainer on board !! Welcome and good luck.
Cutting back on the alcohol will certainly help the scale go in the other direction, if you don't add other things to your diet to make up for the "drink". Been there, done that, oooppps.
Lost 30 pounds last year by going AF for several months at a time and putting my nightly chicken\salmon\steak on a dinner plate full of mixed greens rather than pasta\polenta\rice....Back to eating whatever I want, but keeping a watch on my morning weigh-ins.
Holiday eating sure makes that needle creep up. The "Just have a little glass of wine with the cookies I baked" elves will get back onto the shelf after NYE and the scale & I will be friends again.
Been doing VERY well with moderation after 4 1\2 months "on the wagon". [Sprains arm patting herself on back for uncapping AF beer instead of uncorking Chianti].
WARNING..."getting drastic" is setting yourself up for failure...IMHO. Slow and steady will get ya' there with fewer bumps in the road.
Feel better @MissMay . Good thing cacciatore is even better the second day.
Just a couple more days to meet your December goal @dawnbgethealthy . January should be easier for everyone...Whew...4 -
Thanks for the well wishes everyone.
Welcome @strugglng18 you will get lots of help and support with us. Set very small do-able goals to begin so your not disappointed.

Just popping back in to say hello. I haven't done an AF day since about the 22nd but I kind of planned for that. I'm now on holiday in Belgium until 5 January so am letting myself have a break to make the most of Belgian beer and I'll get back on it when I get back home.4

Two more days left for December '19.
I hope you have had a successful December in your goals. I have read many positive posts in here and the feed back has shown good results.
I am rounding out 2019 on an uneventful note this year because of this flu bug I had. I do not want to over do it by getting all crazy this New Years Eve and having it come back. So slow and steady easement into 2020.
