@Womona Great attitude and way to stay on track and not derail over one incident!
@MissMay Nice job on an AF concert!
An AF weekend for me! I ran 20.2 miles yesterday...not fun, not great but I did it... hobbled through the last 6 miles but I finished the whole thing... and no cravings last night, not even food cravings. I just wanted to crash in my bed...9 -
Husband does accounting work (payroll) and last week his boss made an error, a costly error, where several people were overpaid in vacation pay or paid time off or something to that effect. Anyway boss lady asked my husband and a few other people to work over (he's salary but usually home between 5-6:00 pm) and find the errors and correct them. He worked until 3 am. He's never done this before and his boss never asks much of him. She felt awful and apologetic. Anyway, today she gave him a $100 gift card and he asked me if he could buy a bottle of nice whiskey with it. It's kind of humorous to me that that is the first place his mind wanders to. Of course he worked for it and it's his and I want him to enjoy it but I just thought that was kind of funny.9

bourbon_n_barbells wrote: Β»I haven't been looking forward to this day for a couple of weeks now but I made it! We went to TWO surprise birthday parties today, one was at a local brewery with a lot of my friends who I like to enjoy a beer or two with on occasion. The first one - at the brewery wasn't too difficult - I ordered a soda water with lime and just enjoyed the food and time with my friends. The second one was tougher - I would have appreciated a drink to just loosen up because I don't really enjoy small talk and/or big groups. I powered through it with a cappuccino and a pb cookie.
Glad to be home and planning my boot camp class for tomorrow morning. 8 more days!
Keep fighting the good fight, MF Pals!
NOW THAT'S IMPRESSIVE!2 -
I feel so much better not being hung over! Back to normal today, and AF to boot. Thanks for all the hugs!6

As usual, I am going to try for 16-20 AF days for the month.
I just made it to 16 for December.
Wednesday January 01 - 3 drinks
Thursday January 02 - 3 drinks
Friday January 03 - AF
Saturday January 04 - AF - Had to delay and delay and delay today, really wanted to have drinks...but I didn't.
Sunday January 05 - 3 drinks
Monday January 06 - AF
Tuesday January 07 - 3 drinks. Although I have skipped some Tuesdays in the past, it is my designated drink day. I felt off the rails today and know that I need to make some changes with jobs, because the Tuesdays are increasingly just too much for me. Tough to find another job at 59, but the stress is ridiculous. That first sip of alcohol was nicely numbing. I know intellectually that it is not the best way to decompress, but it certainly is surefire and quick.
Wednesday January 08 - AF
Thursday January 09 - 3 drinks - worked early morning until 8pm today, started thinking by 7pm of having a drink when I got home after a grueling day...and I did. I sure am not racking up many AF days this month so far! I know that I won't get rid of that 5 pound gain over the holidays (which took me 7 months to lose!) unless I stop the alcohol. Work in progress.
Friday January 10 - AF. Planned wine tomorrow evening with a friend.
Saturday January 11 - Wine and Brandy. The conversation flowed so easily as those of you who have imbibed in alcohol know how that goes. I was pretty good about having a water in between each drink, that made me feel as if I was "drinking less". Ready to get serious about racking up some AF days soon.
Sunday January 12 - AF
Monday January 13 - AF
Tuesday January 14 - 3 drinks. Pretty much 1 for 1. Going to try to do a little better. No regrets for having drinks tonight. I am never going to be an abstainer, but definitely want to drink less.
Wednesday January 15 - AF - halfway to the lower end of my goal for the month.
Thursday January 16 - 3 drinks - wanted the 4th, but knew that it would make me throw up, so didn't. I want to get back to trying to get 2 AF days in a row each time in between.
Friday January 17 - AF
Saturday January 18 - AF - It was touch and go there for a couple of hours, I really felt like having a couple of drinks. I am sure that I will be happy about it in the morning that I managed to resist.
Sunday January 19 - 3 drinks. Definitely will be AF tomorrow, Tuesdays are usually a very busy day for me.
Monday January 20 - AF
Tuesday January 21 - AF - Very busy day tomorrow working out of town. No booze today!
Wednesday January 22 - 3 drinks. Helluva long day. I realize that I reward myself with drinks for working ridiculously long, or the opposite, having a good relaxing day. Thinking about that.
Thursday January 23 - AF. Dinner and the Ballet tomorrow night where we usually have wine. We'll see, really trying to get back to 2 AF days in a row between drinks days.
Friday January 24 - AF - The Ballet was great, "Anne of Green Gables", a Canadian Classic Story set in PEI re-imagined as a Ballet. Usually my girlfriends and I have drinks with dinner and wine at the Ballet, but nobody did since everyone was driving, so it was very easy to be AF tonight.
Saturday January 25 - 3 drinks
Sunday January 26 - AF - I am battling a flu/cold, so a glass of red wine or a Brandy would have been nice, but shouldn't do 2 days in a row with drinks.
Monday January 27 - AF - Made the lower point of my monthly goal, tomorrow is Tuesday, we'll see how that goes. Can't believe that there is only 4 days left of the month, that seemed to go so fast, but I guess that I was just very busy with work and it flew by.
Running tally: 16AF days out of 27 days so far.6 -
@dawnbgethealthy hope you are on the mend with your cold/flu. Good time to be AF especially if your taking cold medicines. Congrats on goal setting.
@Womona glad to hear your back on your track. Only a bump!π
@globalhiker agreed on @bourbon_n_barbells post.
@brittgreenlikethecolor88 love your transformation photos. Your doing great with easing into less alcohol.
@LoveyChar thanks. To each their own when it comes to spending. I am sure he more than earned the $100.00 bonus. At least he asked for your thoughts on the purchase. Nice job with 20k+ miles.
I still see you out there @whitpauly π€ rolling the dice with ANOTHER AF day in Vegas! Sorry to hear you iron levels are off. Hope you can get them where they need to be.
Yes....only 4 more days in January and I also feel it has flown by. A reminder we will be continuing this LESS ALCOHOL discussion in February. I will be creating the new February link soon and posting it here for all to follow. This month I kept track of how many participants we had posting, commenting and contributing for January. It is a whopping 45 participants. Even if you just stopped by to voice your own success or struggle one time, we so appreciate your support to our thread. π

I've really appreciated being inspired and encouraged by all of you. We're each on our own journey and it's been awesome to do this "together".
HOWEVER
I do not feel like it's flown by! It feels like January 78th. I'm really looking forward to Sunday (I started on Jan 2). But I know I'm going to take it easy, even though I will be drinking with friends during the Superbowl. It occurred to me that whatever example or impression that I've made on my kids or my friends by being AF for a month could be undermined quickly and easily by binge drinking on Sunday. So, I'm holding myself accountable to keeping it on the rails.6 -
@Lilylady3k the event sounds very cool. Always looking for new ways to raise money for charity. Thanks for sharing.
@dawnbgethealthy it was an Eagles tribute concert we attended. Would have been awesome to see the original Eagles in my lifetime but that never happened.
@shorepine you are getting in some good numbers on AF days. CONGRATS.2 -

Yes - I'd like a Feb link. I'm not planning on a completely AF February but would appreciate accountability for maybe limiting the days or at least being more aware of when/how often/and why I have a drink.6 -

So sorry this month has felt like forever for you @bourbon_n_barbells. I get so pumped up when I read your posts. I can tell you the honest truth, my first encounter 2 years ago was such an emotional roller coaster. I started head strong, with wanting to add an AF day inbetween each drink day and then increasing those AF days by one each time. I would get derailed. I would also worry about, like you, scheduled drink occasions that would be unavoidable. I then found it was my own worries that was causing the anxieties because I was afraid one non AF day would ruin everything. It really would end up turning out so much better than I expected.
Give yourself credit for having the AF days you have. I believe you will do the right thing for yourself when the time comes to have alcohol. We will all be behind you 100%, so it may be a bit crowded, where ever you are that day. LOL π

Thank you @MissMay!

26 Days AF and today WILL be 27....
However, tomorrow I have a work thing where I will be expected have to drink. It's all good though as my plan has never been to be tee-total LOL
My measure of success will be if I can jump back on the wagon again afterwards. Especially not drinking for the sake of it or out of habit.
I really admire you guys who can cut down and have just a drink or two but I realize for me I need to just keep a lid on it except for special occasions.
Good luck in the last few days of the month everyone!!! I'm really looking forwards to seeing everyone here again next month!
Oh and anyone like me, who was drinking every night who wonders if they'd find it easier to loose weight not drinking I've dropped 6KGs (13lbs) this month.7 -
Hey everyone, I'm still here. Failing miserably at many of my health goals this month, but I AM doing good with drinking less. So that's good, right?
Jan 1-7: AF (7 days)
Jan 8: 3 drinks (2 glasses of wine and a small bit of brandy)
Jan 9-13: AF (5 days)
Jan 14: 1 drink (1 glass wine)
Jan 15: 2 drinks (2 glasses wine)
Jan 16: AF
Jan 17: 4 drinks (date night)
Jan 18-20: AF (3 days)
Jan 21: 3 drinks
Jan 22: 5 drinks
Jan 23-27: AF (5 days)
AF days so far in Jan: 21/27
My current five day streak is all the more impressive because my husband is out of town for work so I'm handling all the family stuff on my own (we have two young kids and a horse farm, plus I work full time). Normally I would definitely crack a bottle of wine in the evening while making dinner or after the kids go to bed to unwind. But, I'm not even really thinking about that! I plan to have 3 more AF days this week, then Friday is my birthday so I'm going to enjoy something.6 -

That's impressive that you've been able to pass all week, and it sounds like you have a good plan!

CONGRATS @shorepine on the 5 day AF streak. Nice work very impressive. Hope your health concerns are not serious.5 -
Today is day 23AF. It's still pretty easy at home. Big test coming up this weekend.
We travel to my in-laws for a late Christmas gathering, which usually involves too many beers for my brother in-laws, me and DH having more wine than normal to better tolerate some of the obnoxious behavior, and often a related argument.
Thanksgiving was BAD, but it made my DH see that he didn't want to participate in the chaos. He's been AF with me this month and informed family that we wouldn't be drinking this weekend. Shock and horror was the response, so I'm curious how strong the peer pressure will be. I think I will stick to my guns, but not sure about DH.
Good luck to everyone as we get close to the end of the month!6 -

Will not drink about this today but I may have one extra tomorrow at the concert
January 26 - AF - Forgot I still had Sunday to go before my concert
January 27 - 5 drinks - 2 before the concert and 3 after at the hotel bar. I stayed sober at the concert because I didn't want to give my front row spot up to go get a drink

Happy to share with you all some good news finally! Reduced daily drinking to less than 1/3rd of what I used to drink. My sleep improved a lot, now I wake up happy and energized (no longer drinking before bedtime). Got thru week 1 of "no restaurant/take out/bars" challenge with husband and it wasn't even hard. Bonus - I increased my running time to 4.5 miles (with no stopping).
Thanks everyone for your stories - YOU ALL helped me to stay motivated to keep progressing11 -
@globalhiker Big deal, congratulations! I remember not being able to run 1/3 of a mile. Now I'm running twenty! Keep striving to get where you want to be! Nice job!7

Day 29 AF. As this Dry January comes to a close, I can say I learned a lot about myself, why I started drinking in the first place years ago, and why I'm continuing on this journey to greatly reduce the amount of alcohol I consume. I have a goal to not drink more than 30 days total this year, which is approx. 1/3 the amount of days I drank last year.
This year I am finally doing something that I've wanted to do for years. I'm flying to New Jersey to go on a Cathe Road Trip in her gym in Glassboro. I went on one of her road trips to Chicago last year and it was awesome. I hope that by getting ready for that, I will want to greatly reduce the amount I drink.
Hope everyone is having a good January and are doing well, no matter what your goals are.13
