Ok....so I’m sitting on a bike at the gym as I write this. I have never heard of the running clothes brand Oiselles that some of you mentioned today. Didn’t google it or anything. And it just now popped up on my Instagram feed. Are they reading stuff that I’m reading? Can someone explain the “inter web” - so creepy!!!!1

@kimlight2
Now that’s what I call multitasking! Impressed!!!1 -
@polskagirl01 Awwwwwww that little girl is a warrior and she deserves a medal and so much more. That is so sad... I love your reasons for running. I love them! You're a smart lady, thank you!
@ContraryMaryMary Thank you! Your girls are blessed to have such an inspirational and insightful mother!
@quilteryoyo & @Camaramandy648 Thank you, you are some sweet, sweet ladies!
@bearly63 Thank you, so so sweet... And, I am 100% sure our messages here are being read elsewhere. I had that happen to me twice lately. It is super creepy and intrusive but of course, it's to better "enhance" our experience or, truthfully, their bank accounts. Yes it's so so creepy. I logged on to Facebook twice after having conversations here to find immediately in my news feed advertisements or pop-up ads, whatever they are called, to what I had been discussing here.
@7lenny7 @PastorVincent @autumnblade75 @Camaramandy648 Thanks for your opinions. I'm a little surprised, happily though. 75% trail, 25% road preference. Well I signed up for a trail Marathon days ago, no idea what I'm getting myself into but I'm looking forward to it nonetheless. I bought nice trail running shoes.
@T1DCarnivoreRunner I'm interpreting your response as I don't care what it is as long as I'm running it because you just love to run. Correct me if I am wrong, please.
84.9/80 miles, goal hit for this month but I have been slacking almost two weeks now. Oh well, on track tomorrow with new goals.4 -
So I went to REI yesterday because I had a few things to get (Picky Bars especially) and check out the new Topo shoes that came out in January. I knew I wasn't going to buy them because the only color REI had was orange. Ummm yep, not going to buy them. Look what came home with me though! 😂
Shoe porn below the cut... I did have a $20 off coupon that paid for a part of the Picky Bars and the socks I bought. Then when looking for my REI car I found an REI gift card with $90 on it! Score!
Now to go on my Leap Day run in my new shoes and close out the month!12 -
-
@LoveyChar Yes, sign up for both trail and run.4

Quick update as I finish out the month and move over to March. Met the basic goal of 100 miles+ but not the stretch goal of 200k. I started feeling pretty yucky towards the end of the month, and cut back this week on distance, while ending the calorie deficit. I think I'm starting to feel better, Parkrun was fun today, but we'll see how I feel after tomorrow's race.
Regarding running shorts, I'm picky, especially for longer distances, because seams of any kind, and certain fabrics/styles can cause chaffing. I like the slightly longer, tight shorts, especially those black ones from Decathlon with the big phone-sized zipper pocket in back. I may buy a second pair cause I wear them so much in the summer. And getting my husband to tell me if my butt looks ok in them is pretty pointless but amusing. So I just don't care. They look good from the front, anyway
Regarding tracking... recently my browser told me it was blocking social trackers when browsing outside of the social site. So that made it sound like yes, Facebook etc. does know what I'm looking at, even when I'm not even currently on that site
February goal 100 miles (stretch goal 200 km)
Upcoming races:
Mar. 1 - Bieg Tropem Wilczym 5889m race (in memory of underground soldiers 1944-1963)
Mar. 7 - CityTrail 5k (#6 of 6)
Mar. 27 - "Green Shoelaces" HM (Puławy, Poland)8 -
Anyone else having issues posting? Tried to post my final February update and getting an approval message. Haven't seen that in ages...

So tomorrow is supposed to be close to 50F, but when I counted out the miles in my training plan for Feb when setting the goal I accidentally counted the long run for tomorrow. Since it was still nice and sunny and wanted to make my goal, went for my last run today. I was a little cold for the first mile, but after that I warmed up and was comfortable for the rest of it. Now I’m anxiously awaiting dinner as the timing of the run wasn’t really ideal (no real lunch) so I want to eat all the food! Thankfully, husband ran too so early dinner it is!

@bearly63 thank you!
@katharmonic a for sale sign on my
Butt lmao i laughed right out loud
I got my twelve miles in !!! It actually felt pretty good for the four miles in the gym, then lifting. I could feel myself wearing out, though. At some point i remembered that I forgot to eat anything this morning.
By the time i got to the trail for the other eight, i ate a couple of gels and that certainly helped but i think i had already burned through so much that at that point, I was just trying to catch up.
Today’s run, per the schedule, really should have been eighteen miles but since I only ran a few miles last Saturday and nursed my IT band all week, I thought it would be wise to just do twelve and not risk hurting myself more. My legs definitely felt stronger, but i was TIRED. After just a week off, my endurance didn’t seem to be quite up to par. It was harder than it should have been but i just kept telling myself - It’s okay! You’re recovering from an injury! You’ve been off a week! Just do what you CAN!
Turns out I’m really glad i didn’t push for eighteen because on the loop back I could feel the pain returning. It was so frustrating but I kept my negative self talk at bay. Pushing myself too hard is likely how this happened in the first place and I really REALLY do not want a repeat of that.
So here I am, Netflixing on the couch, one hour til i pick up my kids. I have showered and foam rolled and now i am TIRED!6 -
Had a great time at Parkrun this morning. A good run and great conversation over coffee with friends. At 51.2 total miles for February, I exceeded my mileage goal. I also met my goal of avoiding further injury. My hamstring feels stronger and has less tightness each day.8

The procrastination was strong with me today.... between general weekend laziness... and the fact my current regroup has progressed far enough that I was on the dreaded C25K - W5D3..... you would think I have regrouped enough times at this point... and lived thru that particular workout enough times.... and lived thru a half marathon.... that that particular workout would not still be able to intimidate me like that....
but... brain worms are weird. So, I remembered to bring a towel to cover the dreadmill screen, dropped the pace a bit.... and lived through it again.
I then proceeded to mostly walk, but did add a small bit of running, to bring my total miles to 2.9, for a nice leap day mileage.
So, 2.1 yesterday, and 2.9 today = 30.3 / 25 mile goal like number.

Closed out Leap Year with a 10 mile run. Crazy thing though is I signed up for a 5K tomorrow! It’s the one that’s part of the series. I don’t expect to do great, especially as it’s a hilly course, and it’s been super windy the last couple of days...But, I get points for showing up, so hopefully will move up in the standings for the series.
Still thinking of the other 5K next week too lol. At least I’m getting some racing before the HM. That’s my plan and sticking to it.
Really want spring to just get here already.
9 -
Running shorts - I prefer the bike type shorts too, and need to get some with pockets. I’ll look at those you guys mentioned.
When it’s really hot and humid, I do wear regular running shorts, but still have to find some that don’t ride up, but that’s probably because of my legs lol.3 -
Finished out the month with a 13.1 mile run. We got some snow overnight so I waited for daylight and the roads to improve before heading out. It was still windy and cold but the sun did come out and that helped. 10 miles was the longest I’ve run in the last couple of months but I have a two person 50k relay in a couple of weeks so I needed to get my mileage up.
I ended up with 114 miles for the month exceeding my conservative 90 mile goal. Time to move on to March and Spring!,7 -
20 miles, 3.5 donuts and 2 beers for the day.
That gives me 133 miles for February and the most monthly miles since October. The crazy thing is they were nearly all weekend miles. I only had 13 miles over 2 runs during the week. That's not good.12 -
MFP isn't letting me post my final results and I am still getting that 'approval' required message. I guess if they all ever get approved there will be a bunch of the same post because I have tried all day. Maybe this shortened version will work.
I took my new shoes for a short spin and they were as awesome as I had hoped. Initial reviewers felt they were super stiff and required a break in period but I thought they were fine. I do need to re-lace them so they aren't tight over my arch but tight enough so my foot doesn't slip.
Almost made it to 100 miles (just over 98 with today's run) this month even though my goal was only 75. Now on to March and keeping this trend going!

Late posting my 9.25 miles for yesterday. I thought we were done on Friday - I had forgotten all about leap year.

My last post for the month:
02/02 8km
04/02 5km
06/02 4km
07/02 5km
08/02 7km
11/02 5km
15/02 5km
18/02 5km
21/02 5km
23/02 8km
26/02 8km
29/02 5km
Total 70km of 70km for February - goal!
Sneaked in the last 5km for the month. I had thought about doing a long run, but then i figured if I just met goal with a 5km, I could go out Sunday 1st March as well and get ahead on my March goals. Is that cheating?!
Thank you all for being so supportive to each other - it's been an absolute pleasure taking part in this challenge. And I'll see you all on the March challenge thread!

@shanaber - wasn't there a thing at one time where a certain number in the post triggered the approval message? I bet it's something like that because clearly you can post, but something about your miles is flagging it. I wonder what the secret number is this time. You could always make a picture/screenshot out of your miles list and post that.
Glad you liked the new shoes. Those are zero drop shoes?
Congrats on going way over your mileage goal too!

A certain number? Really? Ugh!
Now I am tempted to make a post with some random numbers in it to see if I can figure it out2 -
Took the dog for a walk/run for a HUMUNGOUS BIG 1.75 miles yesterday. Looks like I ended around 41 miles for the month. HAHA5

An interesting article in today's New York Times on Women Marathoners, heading into the Olympic Trials in Atlanta that was staged yesterday. Hopefully you can read without subscribing. I am amazed at marathoners in general. The fact that they are qualifying for the trial with a 2:45 time and I can barely finish 7 miles in an hour and half.🐢

@bearly63 Thanks for posting that article, it’s inspiring reading about so many different women and their paths to greatness!
I finished February up with a leap day run which was planned to be 10k easy at WC Johnson Park in Collierville - but as we pulled onto the highway we were met by a stream of cars driving the wrong way back towards us down the on ramp! So we turned around and got off, which was wise because as it transpired a fatal Jeep rollover on the highway led to the road being closed for the next three hours. Not only that, but Winchester road and North Germantown, the two closest ways of getting around the highway blockage, were also closed for the investigation, making the nearest route to Collierville several miles out of the way, an hour long drive through the middle of town. It would have been dark by the time we got where we were going, so we ended up backtracking to Shelby Farms instead. By the time we got to Shelby Farms it was too late to get 10k in, especially at an easy pace, so we did 5k and then fartleked around for two miles instead of our usual cool down walk.
I’m glad we did manage to get a run in because it was truly glorious springtime weather.
Sunday was the awards ceremony and afterparty for the Winter Off-Road series. The venue is a bar with a stage, pool room, and a bunch of restored antique pinball machines. After the winners were announced there was live music.
A tiny bit of drama leading up to the awards ceremony - remember how I thought I was tied for third, but actually fourth because of coming in slower in the longer race, then discovered I had forgotten the bonus point for doing all the races in the series and was third after all? Well, a couple of days ago I happened to check the results again (because I am a little tiny bit obsessive compulsive) and instead of being third, I was listed in fourth, with no bonus point. Although I would have been fine with being fourth in the first place, finding out I didn’t get an award after being told I was going to get one was disappointing. The language about the bonus point on the race site is confusing and I figured I had just read the rules wrong, whoever had totaled the scores originally had done the same, then someone else had caught the error and fixed it. But just in case I wrote and asked why the total had changed.
The next morning I got a message saying the series totals had all been recalculated due to an error which had nothing to do with me, and they had failed to notice that I had the bonus point, so I was back in third! Yay. But also, whiplash! Glad I pointed it out!
So after that I didn’t feel at ease until they called my name and I had my medal in my hot little hands!
We had a good time talking to people outside of a race setting. Got to know the people at our table, introduced myself to the lady who was fastest in my AG (she took second master so was ineligible for AG awards) and congratulated her, went for a walk in the park, then had a nice supper at a midtown bar which serves Cajun food. Altogether a pretty good day!
[/spoilers]9 -
@rheddmobile That's sad about the fatal crash. Glad you didn't get caught up in the mess. Wonder why they didn't close that on-ramp if they were going to let people make it an "off-ramp." That could have been disastrous in itself. Also glad you DID get your points straightened out and received your medal! Congratulations!0

@pastorvincent - if I remember correctly it was something like 111.1 but I think they fixed it a while ago.
This time I narrowed it down by systematically removing parts of my post and it had to do with what I wrote about site tracking. Will try putting it under the split and see if that works - honestly it was nothing bad, no bad words, nothing...On tracking, most sites at least in the US now have to give you access to your PI as well as the ability to opt out of cookies, tracking and/or the site owners providing your information (search history, site history, etc. to other partners or businesses or selling that information). On most sites including MFP I have opted out of the cookies, tracking and providing of information to any other site or business. I also use an ad blocker so I don't see the ads here or on any other site (also means I get blocked on many 'news' sites) and I rarely go on FB, maybe once or twice a month and then only to check on groups like my Vizsla groups and MFP.
@katharmonic - while most Topo's shoes are 0 drop and that is what I typically wear, these are 5mm. They have a 'elastomer stability plate' that aids with 'propulsion during plantar flexion'. I don't know much about that but they were really comfortable. They are also a bit heavier than my ST-3s but I didn't notice it either.
@rheddmobile - yay for getting it straightened out and getting your medal!
