Lanette, thanks you so much for your good thoughts for me and me daughter.
To make a long story short, my daughter texted me and asked if she could come stay with me. Every thing inside me screamed no, but my mother's heart won out. I called her and laid out my expectations of her and told her there was no "one more chances". So exactly two weeks after leaving OK and driving back to Denver she packed up car and dogs and drove back to OK. The main factor in my decision of letting her stay here was the CPA firm that had offered her a position when she was here in January, very kindly offered to hold it for her for two weeks. She arrived late on Thursday, Jan. 30 and started work on Monday, Feb. 3. She has started her 4th week there and really enjoys the work. She has been working 50 hours weekly, but now due to tax season, starting next Monday they will go to 60 hours a week.
I have got her started on some supplements and a healthy diet and she seems to be doing well. Another of my concerns was she has two dogs, still pretty much puppies, but they are doing so much better than I expected. They seem to follow the lead of our two older dogs (11 yo this year) and love to run and chase squirrels in the orchard.
Love you my friends, please continue good thoughts and prayers for her situation.

Thank you, Carol. I was pretty sick with an eye infection and trying to settle in to this new routine. I really will try to keep up a bit better.

Amber: We used to take our kids to Chuckie Cheese for birthday party celebrations. I haven’t thought of that in ages. Your post put all sorts of happy memories in my head. Thanks!
Machka: You are absolutely right that all the successful weight loss plans boil down to CICO—aka Calories In-Calories Out..
Ginny in OH: I hope things go very well for your brother.
Sue: The stable was having a windy weather event and the horses were all edgy so my lesson was cancelled. It is about 15 miles from here and at a higher elevation. The weather there can be more challenging than it is here beside the river. There will be another chance soon. :flowerforyou:
Dawn from Roselle Illinois: Welcome! Best advice for weight management is CICO—Calories In-Calories Out. Measure your portions and count your calories. Try to get healthy exercise. That can be brisk walking, riding bikes, or many other activities that get your body moving and burning calories. I enjoy yoga classes, walking and horseback riding. I have found that if I enjoy an exercise I am more likely to do it.
Janet OKC: Great to see your post. I hope you’ll find time to stop by more often.
Our ovens are cleaned, the blower system is back with the rental company and life is better. YAY!!!
Regarding vitamin supplements-I take quite a few. My doctor asked for me to bring them in and she was satisfied that all are good for me. She wants me to have a daily glass of red wine for heart health. As you may remember, I’ve banned alcohol from my life. I’m having some problems with this request from her. I tried the red wine for a while and am not drinking it at this time. Advice would be welcome. :flowerforyou:

Thanks, Lisa. I'm kind of on pins and needles thinking its been too good to be true. I'm trying to just enjoy her and quit borrowing trouble, as my Mom used to say.

Ginny: May your brother rally and keep dementia at bay. He is lucky to have you by his side.
Janetr: Wonderful to hear DD is with you and thriving. No substitute for Mom's care.
Today's dementia rant and a question:DH got aggressive with DB a couple nights ago during a bout of sundowners. Nobody got any sleep, and the aftermath still lingers. I'm a wreck and DB has been staying at a hotel. I know that aggressive behavior in dementia can be an indication of pain, and he has been having diarrhea almost daily, which he completely denies. So, I'm going to get him to primary care physician this Friday and get another perspective. I've been resistant to putting him on any prescription dementia meds, but now feel ready to give modern medicine a try. I'd welcome any words of wisdom from those who have gone that route.

(((Rori))) Taking DH to a primary care physician is a great idea. Hopefully you will get good guidance. Perhaps there will be some sort of RX to reduce negative behavior.3

Happy Tuesday!
So my dentist cleaning was good. Blood doctor appointment is end of March. Not that far away, but so far away. Tried to get appointment for allergy testing. They want a referral and are a month out. Has anyone done the everlywell testing? Am seriously considering it. Or do I wait for blood doctor? Just tired.
I thought of a lot to reply to and have now forgotten. Will try to look up tonight as am on phone right now.
I didnt have a nickname until I was in my 20's. One of my friends calls me Ky. Otherwise, it is Kylia.
Lunch was romaine, spinach, lightly cooked asparagus and broccoli with black beans and a little ranch dressing. 1/2 orange for dessert. Such a pretty salad and 4 servings veggies and 1 fruit. Afternoon snack will be plain yogurt with raspberries, blackberries, and blueberries (only a few of each) with granola and cherry juice. I have been putting frozen cherries in it but forgot to get last night. Had tart cherry juice so added that. Will let you know how it tastes.
Speaking of veggies....i want to try to add more different ones to my diet. I picked up fresh brussel sprouts and cut up butternut squash. Suggestions on cooking? Brussel sprouts were boiled and buttered growing up-YUCK! Brussel sprouts, turnip greens, cabbage, and cauliflower are about the only veggies I tried growing up that I dont like. Suggestions helpful! I like sauerkraut occasionally.
Karen, I think, sorry for the loss of your friend. It has to be hard not being nearby, even if she wouldn't recognize you now. Hugs.
Gotta get back to work.

Janet- One day at a time....I agree with your Mom....dont borrow problems. I am happy that today all is well for you.2

Ginny- I remember feeling so helpless when my oldest granddaughter broke her collarbone falling out of bed. They were in FL at the time. I think she was 3. Since then she has broken her ankle twice in the same 4 months. When I broke my hand a few years ago she was with me when they removed the first cast. I was worried as it was my first cast ever. She told me not to worry, it just tickles some and wont cut my skin . I bet he is fine today. Hugs to you and his parents.2

Rori- I agree dr visit is a solid plan. Dementia is so hard! Hugs!1

Janetr - Good for you for stepping up. The job will do her a power of good.
Rori - Alcohol has a lot to answer for. HUGS.
Singing was with another substitute teacher. Our normal, wonderful teacher is back next week. The first part was not so good, but we enjoyed the classical section. We often sing songs from American musicals and it makes me think of you all. We sang Clambake from Oklahoma.
When we came out the heavens opened and the wind blew up. We were soaked, even though we had umbrellas.
Duck legs tonight with parsnips and cabbage. Potatoes for DH.
I'm still pondering his blood test recall.

Thanks so much for the nice birthday wishes. It was a lovely day yesterday, and now I'm ready to take on Lent. I hardly ever do anything for this period, since so much of it seems to revolve around giving up food, and that is something I practice year round . So, I think I'll challenge myself in the coming 40 days to be more mindful about other health choices. How that will take form is still a mystery, but it's still Fat Tuesday today in Sweden, at least for a few more hours, so I hope I'll be inspired by the time I wake up. If your tradition also observes Lent, then I wish you joy as you experience the benefits of this practice.5

Heather - thinking about you and your DH. I hate it when the doctor's offices call you and say, "come in to discuss your blood tests." Horrible waiting like that.
Rori - not very happy that your brother left you with your husband when your husband was obviously extremely unsettled. I worry about you. I keep seeing my grandmother with two black eyes when my grandfather struck her in his own dementia, something he wasn't capable of before the disease took him away. Just... be careful, dear heart.
Love y'all,

Hugs to Rori and Janet and all who need them!
I'm having a good day. I had a date that went well. On the other hand I hurt my neck/shoulder doing too many crunches, and missed the gym yesterday. Oh well.
Getting fit is not a straight line.

Katla, could a non-alcoholic red wine provide the same heart-health results? Or maybe even just a resveratrol supplement?
I take perhaps too many vitamins and supplements, but they seem to work for me. I start the day with lemon juice, apple cider vinegar and honey in 8 oz of lukewarm water followed by another 8 oz with Metamucil. Then I drink 32 oz of water mixed with Spark and flavored collagen. I also take a probiotic the Do-Terra Lifelong Vitality pack of vitamins. Then not every day but most days I have a cup of detox tea early on and bedtime tea at night.2 -
Lisa - I know he has an enlarged prostate, but he has never been to the doctor about it, being him. He just gets up four or five times a night. I'm sure he didn't mention it at his health check and blood test. He wont have flu jabs or do a poo test. My best hope is that it is giving a false positive from being enlarged. That is very common, the internet tells me. It does not mean cancer, though that is a possibility. Only two days to go until the next blood test. It was the receptionist who rang him and she couldn't say why he was being recalled. I would have asked for a doctor to ring me, but he is not me, so he didn't do that. I am wondering about his back pain, which may, or may not, be related.
Oh well. They will fathom it out eventually. I have to decide when to tell the insurance company for our cruises. In the small print you have to tell them if something is under investigation.
I can see it knocked him back, though he should have expected a positive, because he freely admits his prostate problems. Get medical help? You are joking. This is the first time ever he has had a health check of any kind. He had a day care hernia repair a few years ago. Other than that he has never been near a hospital for anything.

JanetR So good to hear from you. I'm so glad your motherly heart won out. It sounds as if this gamble may pay off. There is nothing to be gained by waiting for the other shoe to drop. You must be so proud of your daughter.
Katla If your doctor recommended red wine, it may be because it is a source of
reservatrol, which protects plants from diseases & stress damage. It's less clear if it protects humans, but there are tons of dietary sources: peanuts, pistachios, grapes, red & white wine, blueberries, cranberries, cocoa, and dark chocolate.
Rori Base your decision-making on what will keep everyone safe. That will make it easier to know what to do. (((Hugs)))
Heather Waiting for an appointment to discuss lab work is torturous. Our medical facility is walk-in, so our patients don't have to go through that. Also, providers call their patients when there is a significantly abnormal test. Never a receptionist. I don't like that. And we see a ton of patients, 100-150 per day. It's not like we are a concierge facility.

My friend Lynette, with her strong constitution, is still alive in the nursing home in Colorado to, though her respiratory rate has doubled, and the hospice nurse says "today is the day". Apparently she is getting morphine every 2 hours, but the last 24 hours she has been restless and struggling, which distresses those surrounding her. I wish there were better options for end-of-life decisions. We are all wretched at this point, even those of us who are just waiting for a text.
ADD: as I was writing this, Shona texted us to tell us Lynette died 20 minutes ago.

Rori, my heart goes out to you and your husband, I'll keep you all in my prayers. About 4-5 years ago my MIL started having problems it got worse and worse so Jack's brother wanted us to come. The poor thing was sure "they" had listening devices in her yard, all over her house, her TV, everywhere. She was totally not ok. We took her to the hospital and the doctor recommended we take her to a psychiatric hospital the next town over. She refused to go and as no one had a POA we had to take her home. A few days later she did agree to go to the psychiatric hospital. They recommended an Rx that they said worked particularly well with Sundowners. I cannot begin to tell you the difference. She came home in about 10 days and she still sees the doc regularly and they tweek her meds, but she is back to keeping house, cooking, doing laundry, etc. She'll turn 89 in June and is perking right along. I think it saved her life.

The Liverpool Care Pathway, which my mother had, has since been banned by law. It was a blessing for all concerned. Restless and struggling is not necessary. Now your friend is at peace. Peace. Lots and lots of love to you.

Took the Power Hour class today. The plan for tomorrow is to do a 20/40/60 workout on the treadmill.
After exercise went to Aldi then WalMart. Realized last night that there are some things that I really don’t need so I returned them. Then came home and laid by the pool. It’s getting cloudy right now. We have absentee ballots and you need *2* witnesses so I just got one of my neighbors to do it for me. Another lady came and invited us to play cards at her place tonight at 7
Barbie – I put those books in my “favorites” with hoopla. I tell ya, my list of favorites is getting longer and longer with this club’s recommendations. Unfortunately, you can only get three books/audiobooks per month. And for some reason you can’t return them once you’re finished, even if it’s in less than a month.
Amber – thank you, just finished listening to Pandora’s Lunchbox. Quite interesting. Yea for smaller pants. I read somewhere that if you have pants where that zipper doesn’t stay up, to put one of those key rings that you get in craft stores, then zip your pants, and put the key ring on the button (or whatever) at the top of the zipper. Sometimes I have to do this mainly because the zipper for whatever reason just doesn’t stay up and it works quite well. No bump (except for my fat stomach)
Annie DE –I don’t think I’ll try the meditating lying down. I’d probably fall asleep….lol
Welcome everyone new
Dawn – oh, girlfriend, what a familiar tune. But you are doing great!
Amber – one year when the kids were little we were out shopping. Vince said that “maybe we should take ma out to dinner for mother’s day. Where do you think we should go?” They decided that I’d like to go to Chuck E. Cheese. They were so proud of the fact that they’d thought of it… We always smile about this
Rori – (((BIG HUG))) Do think an antidepressant will help dh any? I believe that’s what they gave MIL when she sundowned.
Karen VA – your friend is no longer in pain. My sympathies to you.
Michele now in FL but not for long enough

Kylia - Brussel sprouts are tasty roasted or even shredded and sautéed in a bit of olive oil and balsamic. Ina Garten has a great recipe this way. I like them like potato chips. They are flaked into “chips,” then roasted with olive oil and salt in the oven. Both ways are delicious. I also do this with Kale.
I pretty much love any veggie roasted with olive oil and salt. It brings out the sugars so nicely. They are great for snacking this way.
Vitamins - I take a daily multi-vitamin for women and an iron supplement. I find that I can’t seem to get all the vitamins I need on so few calories in a day.
Hugs to those in need and happy thoughts to all.
