I can’t do the quote thing for each answer here because I’m short on time BUT here is the schedule for the last seven (or is it six now?) long runs until marathon day (April 25!)

    This weekend: 12 miles
Fifth weekend (also Portland): 20 miles
    Fourth weekend out: 12 miles
    Third weekend out: 22 miles
    Second weekend out: 12 miles
    Last weekend out: 8 miles

I think yeah, only six long runs left!

@enaliba yes! I have never been so my *hope* is to get up earlier than my twin brother and get a few miles in. He is not a runner .... he’s more of a beer, wine, and food guru and he loves his cigarettes (i understand - i used to smoke too). Also I am slow and a 20 mile run would take HOURS. This wouldn’t be a thing but I haven’t seen him in four years and I don’t want to take one second away from spending time with him. So ...

Would it be just absolutely stupid of me to do the 20 mile run THIS weekend or the weekend I get home instead of Portland weekend? I also need a cutback weekend to coincide with the weekend that i have the kids for Spring break, which is actually the weekend i get back.

So can i manipulate the schedule to 20 this weekend, however and as many as I can next weekend, then another cutback, then 22? What is the best way to maneuver this?

Also - @LoveyChar remember everyone said that after they run a marathon they fall into a drifting state until the next thing. You’ll pull yourself back up! And. I want that cookie. I’m still trying the plant based diet to see if it really does help with inflammation etc ..... tomorrow is no-tuna, tuna salad. I’ll letcha know how it goes rotfl

My son is still miserable and i am due back at work tomorrow.

My sister is LOSING HER MIND over coronavirus. I’m not sure I buy into mass hysteria, but my concerns rest with the legitimacy of the issue. There’s a part where we need to do all that we can (wash. Your. Hands.) but also.... i really don’t want to be quarantined.... but also .... people that could die from the virus would be grateful if it were contained. It’s not just me I have to care about.

    But also.

I don’t want them to cancel the marathon and I don’t want to have to miss out on Portland.

    We shall see.

So are you asking about doing 20 this week, and 12 next? That is a possible option. You need to judge your own body and condition and work from there. It is certainly a reasonable option. As is just skipping the run if you must.

@PastorVincent yes! Does it make sense to do that?

I have to manage my IT Band - but i think if i keep being smart i will be able to manage it!

@Tramboman you are really kicking butt! You are so consistent! I think you are going to exceed your goals and surprise yourself. Any thoughts on what your fourth race will be?

Thank you. That's another benefit of being retired.
I want to do the Solon Days 5k in July.
I also like to schedule about one per month from April to October. Just waiting for the schedule to be finalized.

    got our run in
I wasn't going to take speed demon but i put on my running belt and she started crying. so we went. the plan called for hills so i went to a local park. hills but not nearly as bad as remember. sunday will be worse. by at least double.
she wanted to go fast. she cried whenever i stopped for a picture. we saw deer. the deer were very curious about speed demon. we stopped at a few small waterfalls. and sunset. it was a beautiful run. it helped some, the physical struggle, working thru some of the empathy of someone who feels he has nothing left but to stand in front of a train rather than hurt their family again. i know that pain.

i told my friend at dinner the other night, i couldn't do that because someone would take my Old Girl, there might be fights over her...but no one could take Speed Demon being a recovering feral. no one i know could deal with her. so even on my darkest days, i have to stay. I stay and run in those that can't like my friends who didn't have any fight left for them.

20 hour fast and I won't be able to get a long run in with little man wanting out of stroller but it will be a good run, nonetheless. I'm excited to mow grass tonight, more good cardio. I love mowing the grass, maybe I'm weird. Hope that everyone has a great day ❣️

    3/1: 10 miles
    3/2: 3 miles
    3/3: 5 miles
    3/4-3/6: In bed with flu
    3/7: 2.25 miles
    3/8: 3 miles
    3/9: 3 miles
3/10: Total body strength- 35 minutes
    3/11: 4 miles

Catching up on all the conversations. This board is prolific! So as of today my half marathon is still on with 17 days to go. If they do have to, I hope they postpone instead of cancel. Not only was this my first half in a while, it is supposed to be my mom’s very first 5k, just shy of her 70th birthday.

Dusted off the double running stroller. My kids have just about outgrown it but I’m preparing for the probably inevitable fact their schools will close and I’ll have to figure out what to do with them for a few weeks. I’m thinking lots of runs and walks where we don’t touch anything..

@Avidkeo I think four hours is a good time for a marathon.

@Avidkeo It truly depends on the Marathon.

I ran in 100+ degrees of heat last summer almost every single day. It's hot, hot, hot here already and getting hotter and I am not looking forward to the heat.

@Avidkeo I can get the online calculators to line up and predict all of my other race distances, but the marathon predictions are off by almost 40 minutes. I think they assume you're perfectly trained or something.

@Avidkeo This has to be wrong since there is a cutoff time of 7 hours for this one, but here's what you could look up (particular Marathon you are interested in) and it might give you the average time of last year's race which would better help you, I think.

@Avidkeo yay, you go girl! I'm impressed (and secretly a little envious lol). Re: swimming.... I started going once a week (usually). I am a bad, slow swimmer but I find it useful for low intensity resistance cardio. It also seems to really help get the knots out of my calf muscles. BUT I often feel it in my quads, it gives them a good workout.
Marathon times... I'll be looking for one with a 7hr cut-off when I eventually get brave enough for that level of commitment.
@polskagirl01 really really sucks about your race. And school. And general mass hysteria. They closed the schools in Madrid and a couple of other places today for 2 weeks, and as soon as they announced that on Monday all the supermarkets were out of milk and chicken within hours. Makes more sense than toilet paper though I guess.

If they do cancel mine I will probably run the HM distance, but not at race pace. Then, I dunno. We have a hiking holiday in the north booked for Easter week. We're not sure what to do about that, the idea of flying isn't very appealing right now. We might drive up. Depends how things play out over the next week or so.
I'm also signed up for a 5k this Sunday and a 7k on April 19th, which are part of a local series. No word about them yet.

@Avidkeo 4.5 hours seems really hardcore for a cutoff! A lot of fit women and even slower men run five hour marathons.

The race predictions for me are off no matter what calculator I use. My PR is 4:38 and some think I can go as fast as 3:23!

@Avidkeo i saw somewhere (Can’t remember where) that whatever prediction you have, add 20 minutes for your first marathon.

I find McMillan to be pretty close for me - and the 20 minute addition for my first was also pretty much dead on.

My Garmin thinks I should have finished both marathons almost 90 minutes faster than I did (it also thinks the rest of my races should be rerun faster than my fastest ever mile ever recorded at a max HR 20 beats over what It “should” be. So I’m unsure why Garmin thinks I’m dogging it so badly in races. It knows how fast (slow) I am. And it’s LT estimate is pretty much dead on. So...???
