Lisa in AR: I watched a programme on the Faberge eggs on BBC on Easter Mon. So beautiful!
I wondered about that Darwin picture. Apparently his personal hygiene was less than perfect.
Heather: I have a ripper outer. Wouldn’t use it in my lady garden though. Just on legs and the odd facial sprout. 😂 I was growing my hair out, so that’s not a problem either.
I’ve been making masks from fabric. They have a pocket for a removable filter. I am thinking of joining a group sewing scrubs for care workers.

Good morning ladies!
Here's an electron microscope photo of the latest health problem in my neighborhood:
Any guesses? Answer at the end of this post.
Some commentary on the glitter in our community:I'm excited that it looks like things are going to start to open up here in our state before long, the "new normal". So anxious to get our dogs to the groomer, for one, so hope they'll be on the early open list. Also, letting people go clamming and sport fishing. There are other "fresh air" activities in our very rural county that have been banned where grouping just doesn't happen except with family members. So we'll see.
I emailed one of our county commissioners yesterday and asked if there was a tally of where the 19 infected people in our county caught it. Were they working in a medical facility where infected people were being cared for? A high density setting such as a workplace? Or just "community spread" which is the one I'm particularly interested in. Even with stores posting the '6 ft social distancing" people do gang up in some areas during busy times.
She replied that I'm in good company, our State Senator is asking the same thing and our health department promised to deliver these stats by the end of the week. That will likely have a bearing on which businesses/activities will be reopened first.
Make it a good day, ladies!

Answer to the question....pollen! Those little spikes feel like cinders in my eyes. Cold packs really do help, by the way, along with over the counter steroid drops.3 -
Barbara, My suggestion about the Zoom line dance class is that the teacher mute everyone during her walk through and then ask anyone with a question to use the "raise hand" feature and she can unmute just the questioner and then mute them again during the dancing.
Yesterday was a super day for us. Stimulus check was in our account along with evidence that the check I mailed for the property tax was being processed. Then we got the tab for the car licensing that Jake had done online. We have always gone to DOL to pay the car registration and walked out the door with the new tab in hand and have gone to the court house to pay the property tax and walked out with a receipt in hand. It was a new level of anxiety for us to handle those things in a way that was not face to face.
For us, the stimulus check is going to be for emergencies. Our income has taken only a small hit because of the virus but we want to continue with our ways of intentional spending and not look at it as a windfall.
Today I go to Costco. I've gone over my list so often, I can recite it. I used to look forward to shopping but not now. I just have to be grateful that I can go at all.

Did my 5k. Not a cloud in the sky, but not too hot. Quite a few people out, but we managed to keep our distance. We saw a policeman moving on a person sitting on the beach.
I've just realised that the series I'm watching on BBC iplayer finishes tomorrow night at 10pm. Good job I checked! I'm going to watch two more hours this afternoon and that leaves me three to get through tomorrow. :noway: I can't bear not to see it through. I'm completely hooked and in love with the main character.
Must get to it! Love Heather UK xxxxxxxx4 -
No stimulus checks for my household we fell in the cracks y anything for JR will be eaten up by taxes owed. Navy Daughter will tho told her save it back since good to mask costs y more cleaners eating up her paychecks which I’m glad she’s getting . Today soup 🍜 y brownies that failed lacking too many ingredients didn’t want hubby out searching for them. Less he’s out the better.
Exercise like usual still on the same plateau yo-yo yo-yo 🪀 longest these last is a month for me so should budge soon .

Barbie
Yes, that seems to be the way Zoom works best. If two or more are unmuted, there's a lot of extra noise. Also if there is music or a TV in the background, that adds to the noise factor.
In my meetings, we mute everyone until they raise their hand to speak.

PS. No stimulus money down here!

My exercise today was a 1-hour brisk walk on the treadmill.
Distance: 5.57 km
Time: 1:03:14
Just walking because one of the many challenges I'm doing on Strava is a walking challenge. So some of my exercise times have to be a walk. I think I've got 10 hours of walking left to go this month, so I'm trying to get it done!
Today was rainy and wet which is good but meant that walking indoors was more appealing.
Back to studying! It's 12:22 am and I want to watch a 21 minute lecture before I go to bed.

Carol - My photographer niece is an absolute whiz with photo software like Adobe Photoshop, and I'm sure that's how she placed the map of the world in Micah's eye.
She posted a picture this morning of my brother (her daddy) in his truck, smiling - they met in a parking lot, never got out of the vehicles, more than six feet apart, just to see each other and talk for a little while. She had Micah with her as well, and he was waving at his "Big Daddy," through the sunroof... It broke her heart to not be able to hug her daddy... but he is two years older than me and smokes like a chimney, so is very much in the danger zone.
Pip - Woot! Well done!
Back to my doin's,
Love y'all,

Terri I've looked at many homemade masks online over the last month. That mask you are modeling is among the top 3. Excellent job!

Long boring cloth mask discussion:Cloth masks are more helpful than some people think…but mostly, they protect others. Those that simplistically focus on the size of a virus particle compared to the filtering capacity of the mask are indulging in a theoretical exercise that has no basis in reality. The viruses do not exist in a vacuum, all by themselves, just floating about in the air, willy-nilly, in their own tiny little micron entities. They are floating on tiny bits of aerosolized mucous and saliva, and also abound in larger droplets and spray. The aerosolized particles are tiny and light, and can float around, but the droplets are too big and heavy to go much further than about 6 feet from the sneezer/talker/laugher/cougher. Even though the aerosolized (tiny floating) particles are…well…tiny, they aren't nearly as small as the hitchhiking virus.
Cloth masks, especially those made of several layers, +/- a filter in a pocket (like Terri's), are actually encouragingly effective at keeping wet stuff from getting out into the environment. They are the most effective at keeping the droplets, rather than the aerosol, contained. If a person sneezes or coughs (think forceful, high velocity), some aerosolized particles will still get through the mask, but the velocity of the particles that make it through is slowed by the cloth layers. In a well-constructed mask, no big droplets should get through.
Now let's consider the effectiveness of masks in terms of protection of the individual wearing the mask. Considering that aerosolized particles from an infected person will land on your everything, including hair, face, clothes, exposed skin, and most importantly, your eyes, wearing a mask (properly, with the nose and mouth covered) will be, at best, only modestly effective at protecting the mask-wearer from other people's cooties. A multi-layered mask will stop wet stuff from getting through from either direction, as long as the mask itself is not overwhelmed with moisture. Will it keep every single aerosolized particle out? No, it will not. But walking through an invisible cloud of aerosolized viral-laden fresh sneeze gets the Bad Fairy Dust on your whole body anyway. If you are wearing glasses, or better yet, goggles, you get some protection for your vulnerable eyes.
If you are not in full PPE with N95 respirator mask and goggles you are not adequately protected from aerosolized particles.
That doesn't mean that wearing a mask and your glasses doesn't help protect you at all. Unless the mask/eye protection is mishandled after leaving the public space, the mask and glasses certainly won't increase your chance of being infected. And they probably do provide you with a modest amount of protection.
In China, if someone is in public without a mask, other people get really mad at them and yell at them to put on their mask. There is a reason for that. They understand that the masks are worn to protect other people, and they expect others to be courteous and responsible just as they are. In this country, people think that wearing a mask mainly protects themselves. I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing. American attitudes are much different than Chinese attitudes towards society as a whole.

Mowed the lawn yesterday, which got me sneezing. I have a whole new movie in my head when I sneeze these days. Plus Lanette's new picture. Sneezing from pollen will never be the same. It used to be kind of satisfying. Not so much now.

An old friend from junior high called yesterday, and we were both in tears by the end of the call over nothing but our enduring friendship. She has the cutest baby goats, the little pigmy type full of antics. So adorable. The day Pam moved to our little Southwest Nebraska town in 1966 was the gift of a lifetime. We were getting ready to go into 7th grade that summer, and we took to each other as if we'd always been friends. This spring we were planning a get-together with our other friends at her house, the first time since our friend Lynette with Alzheimer's disease died last fall. But the gathering is postponed, we all agree, so I mentioned maybe we should try Zoom, and she was very enthusiastic! Wish us luck as we iron out the wrinkles and plan our little Zoom virtual get-together. I'm excited. I hope it won't be technologically disappointing.

Hope those that are not posting are busy and well.

Beautiful day out today. Took a walk on the beach and watched dogs racing and playing.
I forced myself out of bed this morning with a mind to pull out of this depression. Hope I can fake it all day. That should pull me out some. Going to up my vitamin D. Already taking some but will add more.
Finishing dishes and coffee then doing wash today. Another relaxing thing standing in the sun. Gotta take care of my garden containers too!

Terri If you have a pattern or at least the dimensions and basic instructions, my partner is very interested in how to make that mask.3 -
So many things to be grateful for today. Here are just a few.
- Awakened to another healthy day.
- The hot shower I took this morning.
- The wonderful leftovers I had for lunch.
- That since "lock down" I have been eating breakfasts and lunches with silverware on dishes.
I hope everyone is having a good day.5 -
Meet Paul and Judy Brown. She is currently living on an upper floor in a skilled nursing facility, so he hasn't able to see her recently. Their 50th wedding anniversary was coming, and Paul wanted to celebrate with Judy. He collaborated with the local fire department to figure out a solution. They both put on their fancy clothes, and here they are:

Good afternoon ladies
Well I had a knock on the door..
The lady I told you was sick .has the virus like I said and so this is the 2nd in our building she is in the hospital and here is hoping she recovers..9 -
Awe, Katla, I'm your sister (inheart), you know that. I think what troubles me so about my middle sister is that I have literally poured and cried so much emotion into our relationship it amazes me I haven't cracked. I now distance myself from her a bit, keep the connection though. I will always be the one that initiates a text, will always be the one cultivating our relationship. I know my eldest sister in Montana has cut her ties. Its easier. We both mourn our sister and the shallow person she's become. That's what drugs and alcohol did.
Oh Luci your grandbaby is so precious! I am a happy light head of green envy for you! 😁💚. Sometimes I get in a headspace and am so sad that I'm not closer to my Athena. She does not know me! Then I think about my grandma that lived down the road all during my childhood. She was my best friend, and I have to remember that was unusual and oh so special. Not many kids have that luxury. If course I do not have many memories of events prior to 3 yrs old, so heck there's still time. Athena will be 1 yrs old come May.💖
Oh today I am paying for some over eating yesterday! I opened my eating window early at 11:00am, when we were stuck in the commissary parking lot with a dead battery. While husband found a guy to jump us, I ate some roast chicken. Then I had a taco salad at home at 2:00 pm. Then the real feast began..... I had 1/2 a little can of wasabi almonds, then 5 large marshmallows, THEN a container of gelato raspberry parfait. Oh just shut the dang window Rebecca! On the good side, my digestive tract rebelled and so I had about 5 bathroom sessions (I know tmi). AND today I'm up 1.6 lbs. There's a surprise! Lesson learned, eating windows are meant to protect you. Eating windows help you stay the path. Today, I feel like crap, because I ate like crap, and didn't shut my dang window.😁
💖Rebecca

Grandmallie- Be careful hopefully it hasn’t spread to more in your building .
Funnies
Cloth masks some are made well enough to filter others are not but I rather have it than nothing at all. It does lower your chances of getting it by a little that may be all you needed to stay safe if PPE like N95 are not available3 -
Lanette: It looks like a chives blossom. Pollen didn’t occur to me due to color. I always think of pollen as yellow. :flowerforyou:
Barbie: So far, we don’t have stimulus checks in our accounts. :ohwell:
Allie: Sending good thoughts for your neighbor who is in the hospital. I am hopeful that since the British Prime Minister has been treated and released many others will also be able to recover. My guess is that he started out healthy and was able to battle the virus. I fear that those who are already weak or sick may not be as lucky. I am trying to stay optimistic.
We have an interesting view of workers leveling the house next door. I am hopeful we will not need this kind of work.

Katla - what does 'levelling the house' mean???
Watched another two hours of my series. Only three hours to go by 10 pm tomorrow.
AF today. Had an AF beer with dinner.
Still learning my Norwegian on Duolingo. Not quite sure why. I'd like to finish the course.
A quiet day, but so glad I went running. I am well in credit with my calories.
We haven't had any rain at all for weeks, just glorious sunshine. Hoping for some rain for the garden on Friday or Saturday.

Son's family came over before lunch and we had an outdoor visit for about an hour. Sat on picnic table chairs 6 ft apart while the two children played. The sun was warm and it felt really good.
Carol in GA5 -
Karen in VA - thank you for that mask discussion. Am I correct in assuming that if I or a family member is sneezing or coughing for any reason, even with wearing a simple cloth mask or a fancier version, STAY the bleep HOME. Don't wander all over Walmart for an hour looking for Aunt Sue's pickles.
Guess I worry a little that if a person has a mask, a few feel they are good to go and common sense goes out the window. Wish there would be more education regarding this on TV and in the public service ads.
From what you've described, it seems a sneeze or cough hard enough to blow through fabric or out the sides sprays way too much aerosolized glitter-carrying moisture into the atmosphere.
My usual calm zen breathing, not so much.

Heather: We live in a townhouse community next to the Columbia River. We have an attached house so two are side by side with common walls. Across the walkway is another set of townhouses that are attached to one another. The whole development is near the edge of the bank facing the Columbia River. The two townhouses across the walkway from us are in a precarious situation at the moment because their foundations have been compromised by settling &/or bank erosion. Our house doesn’t appear to be at risk at this time. I hope it stays that way and that their foundations are repaired promptly. :flowerforyou:
Karen in VA & Lanette: People who I’ve encountered inside stores here in our town are wearing masks and quite obviously healthy. Those who are not healthy or have health issues that need to be protected from disease can have store employees shop for them and deliver their items to their waiting cars.
My “face” here is a photo I took of our view. We have spectacular sunrises and moon rises. The State of Washington is on the other side of the river.

Hi ladies. I'm back like a bad penny! This lock in is making me crazy. I did exercise for an hour today; 30 minutes each cross trainer and 9Round workout. I hope you have been well. Back soon. Meg9
-
Heather, I’m not sure I was adequate in explaning the leveling of the neighbors homes. Some settling due to erosion has weakened their foundations & the inside floors aren’t adequately level. They’re working on fixing the problem.3
