Good morning all! Happy Sunday!
Heather- Okay, I will set my brain to work on this puzzle (as it is NOT a maths puzzle). The pics of the girls getting their hair done are sweet. Did any of the color stay in after drying?
Karen VA- How absolutely adorable! A little guinea pig art museum!
Terri- lol Thank your for the Life of Brian video! Had to wipe the coffee off my computer screen (that stuff shot out of my mouth at first whistle). I love a little irreverence!
nannersp61- If I want to share video or articles from this site to another, I am able to by copying the link. To share onto this site, I usually have to download whatever it is to my phone or computer, then I can post it here using certain icons at the top of the reply box. (Like the attach image, or attach file) Hope this helps. *note some videos can't be posted unless it is put on something like YouTube first.
Machka- I might try the typing test. I took typing in school (along with shorthand, lol). In school I was quite adept at typing and my hands flew above 70 wpm. Not sure how I will fare as I have a wonky "y" key. It is loose (comes off when I hit it), so I either have words with no y, or I take the time put the key back in place and correct the mistake...lol
Bean soup is in the crockpot, apple muffins are in the oven for the kid's breakfast tomorrow, and I am working my way down my list of foods/meals to prep for this week.
OH! Here is a giggle for you: An ad for a fitness regime came up as I was browsing on Pinterest, yesterday; I had to put in all of this information about my "fitness and lifestyle" (nothing personal, just weight, height, age, body type, that sort of thing). Anyway at the end of the quiz, it is supposed to tell me how long it will take me to lose the weight I want to lose (read about 100 pounds) if I join their program. lol Are you ready for this?! Their program can help me lose 100 pounds by the end of May 2020. lol six weeks for 100 pounds. I am really curious what they would have me do, that would give those kind of results. Pretty sure I would be sore and hungry for six weeks. lol Small children and a hungry Miss Kelly is not a good situation! I will stick with my slow and steady ways.
I better scoot and get things done. ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)
😜😋😉No way the claims are true. (100# by end of May) Slow and steady is a perfect way to go🐢.i watched the new season of the biggest loser on USA network. One of the men lost 105 in 9 weeks, but he was almost 400 to begin with. The regimen is pretty tough, and they are under direct supervision, so I can see where 40 or 50 might be feasible. He was very unusual, losing 10# per week or more. He won $100k, which I imagine would go towards skin flap surgery. Losing so rapidly doesn't give you skin a chance to bounce back.4 -

Wow! I have bagged a delivery slot for Thursday evening after weeks of trying! There were just 3 slots open for next week when I looked at at 6.30 am .
Delivery is free and this supermarket has things I cannot get anywhere else, including the only AF wine I like. Hooray! I haven't bothered with fresh stuff, as I can get that around the corner. I hope the stuff I really want hasn't disappeared when it comes to delivery.
Now all I need is my cruise refund. We would be on our last day sailing home.

@MICHELE the days are running into one another for me too. Can tell them explicitly what you would like in terms of communication?
I have a friend who had 3 kids 18-25 living at home in the city and who were often out and she had them sign up to paper posted in kitchen to say which evenings they would be home or not home for dinner.
Would Colby and Jess pitching in financially and in basic helping out (food, cleaning dishes, etc) make a difference? Would it be better to just have Jess there and not Colby or would it be more of a pain to have her alone? I have at least 2 college-age students who quickly locked down in family home with their boy/girlfriend in addition and it seems to be going fine; but they are about 20 yrs old. it surely depends on the characters of the kids, the BF/GF how they are contributing, etc. One of the students is extremely good natured and communicative so if her significant other is also they are probably a boon to the household. Weirdly i realize that at least 3 of my 4 siblings had their GF/BF living at our house as teens or in very early 20s for at least a couple of months. Sometimes it was nice and sometimes a bit heavy, and sometimes a decent if imperfect solution. It sounds like they are not an ideal couple to have around and then it sounds right to say no thanks. Or discuss it.
@MACHKA at least partial shutdown will surely continue until September, here anyway. Great news about your husband's lesser pressure. A DH who cooks, sews and gardens sounds like a keeper.
@LondonParisTexas i'm in France too. welcome. are you in the city or the countryside in france?
@Margaret, me too, keeping trips to a minimum. Since i have many shops around in the "pre-confinement" days i would most often pick up things at least 2x a week. Now 1x a week (to freshen up fresh veggies and fruits and odd bits) is the norm. I only get fruits and veggies than can last long enough to get uncontaminated out of fridge or can be peeled.
@Barbie Sounds like good shopping. and you strip and shower after shopping too.
@Tracey your instructor could type 60WPM with 2 fingers! that's amazing. i was not into my high school typing class. i imagine my grade was just average. I'm really sorry about your work issues.
@Alabaster, 2 simultaneous (world and local) disasters could be hard to deal with.
@Tina Great typing speed!
@Sharon I have never sewed my own clothing. a few attempts over life not really worth it. my friend who is an avid sewer says that for basic stuff (jeans, shirts, etc) the pattern+ good quality cloth (and you need to buy good quality cloth, not thin sheet-type cotton) generally costs more than buying the clothing item, so it's more for pleasure and personal taste than for economy as it was probably in the 30s and 40s (my mom's day).
I'm way stocked except fresh veggies which will need a reboot in maybe 3-5 days.
The senior times are early mornings so there are less germs in the air when they go. That caused a problem for my sister in Ny state though because the senior hour is something like 6-7 but they couldn't buy beer before 8 am (for her DH) in ny state.
@Cathy if we go to supermarket we can have stuff delivered but ordering online at present is only for the the frail etc according to the website (at our own discretion).
So I shop live and for a very big lot i have it delivered (since i'm on foot in the city). Yesterday i would have had delivered but no deliveries on sundays.

There was a big speech from the french prime minister yesterday.
1) the usual rate of contagion without precautions is each person gives to 3-4 or more people. Since lockdown in France the rate of contagion has been 0.6 (10 people with COVID give it to 6 people).
2) Lockdown will apparently end on May 11, meaning we will not have to carry a certificate to go out and will not be limited to 1h per day outing, nor to 1km from home outing. We will be able to take subways again (i get around by scooter) but probably with required cloth masks. Most schools will not open but they talk about schools for those who have had NO online contact over past weeks. (people w no internet contact etc).
3)NOW they say they will NOT do serological testing, only disease testing from mid-May. That is bad news. Since i'm in a city with a big rate of COVID and was in contact w many people in the weeks before they started talking about lockdown, and i had 2 potential diagnosis of COVID (one on March 15 "possible contamination" and one last week), i could very well have caught it. According to what they said yesterday (but they change their discourse every few days) I would NEVER know if i had had it or not. There are SO many of us in Paris in the same situation. We could quite possibly be living peacefully without terrible concern and instead we'd have to live years with uncertainty. They are NOT testing in France unless you are having serious breathing issues, unless you are over 70 or unless you are a health-care professional. France has among the lowest level of testing rates in Europe.
4) On the other side there is a lot of financial support. Many people who are temporarily out of work are getting paid 86% of their net salaries. (companies pay net and don't have to pay Social Security type, etc charges at this point.) I'm not sure how different countries stand out relative to this and that.

Hello everyone.
Ah, it is the start of my work week. It is going to be another busy one as I have quite a bit of "if" analyses to do. I will be stretching my brain which is always a good thing for me. I am so very fortunate I was a production planner in my early days. The experience has paid off through the years.
And, yes, it is that time of the day for me as there are many things to be grateful for today and all days.- I awakened to another beautiful day.
- I have a challenging job.
- I have a comfortable home.
- I am healthy for my age.
- I live in a day and age where I can perform almost all essential tasks from my kitchen counter.
I hope everyone has a beautiful moment today.
Hugs and prayers to all.

Morning ladies
Had to go to the supermarket on Friday, been trying to get a delivery, but no slots for weeks. I have tried a company called Parsley Box which deliver ready meals that can be stored in the cupboard (rather than the fridge or freezer). I ordered some for my mum and decided to put an order in for my son - I did try the lasagne, and it was very tasty. Unfortunately they don't do vegetarian meals, but are planning on adding them to their menu in the Autumn. My daughter is a veggie and I try to eat vegetarian when I can.
I've not been able to get any flour since before March. I'm hoping that as with the toilet paper, this will resolve itself soon, surely everyone must have enough flour by now!
I've been trying to work out Heather's puzzle, thought it might be mph to kph but no. Back to the drawing board
Keep safe

10 contains 8 lines
52 contains 10 lines.

Then had a very short sit outside
Then cleaned for maybe 2h
and i feel so tired.
Need to rest after 1-2h physical activity.
Need to send mails and reserve zoom classes (or get codes) concerning next days' classes.

BRAVO! Machka wins the prize! :drinker:
I dreamt up the puzzle when I was sitting on my recumbent bike and looking at the numbers on the screen. My alarm clock has the same system.
My son and family haven't cracked it, despite all the clues, but DH got it in a second. But he is a quizzy kind of guy. We have a programme over here called Only Connect which has similar teasers.

Annie our vets are open, you call from your car and they come out and take the pet in, leaving you in the car. Worked for Tumble’s annual and Shadow’s nail clip.
Tracey so sorry to hear about the Administrator causing you such pain. Please take extra good care of yourself during this stressful time.
Tina Mister must wait til June to see a specialist? Surely such a specialist is essential and not locked down? Horrified to hear all that doesn’t work for his pain. Praying he gets some relief soon. At this point, I would skip urgent care and go straight to the ER, preferably one associated with a teaching hospital.
Allie oww! What were you trying to build?
Sharon “…still believed in the perfectability of mankind” Ah yes, those were the days. Had two mini dresses for special occasions, wore my black velvet bell bottoms down to the threads. And Yes to delusional vs cynical! I was in Berkeley then the East Bay from ’68 on, and you?
Kay those bagels look yummy!
Cathy likewise those keto cakes. Angel your isolation partner!
Sue your visitors.
Michele surprised the Salvation Army is open and accepting donations, all our non-profit thrift stores here are closed. The list of places you’ll go worries me. Know your heart is in the right place and you’re doing all this for others, but please reconsider, reduce to essentials and at least decontam after each stop. Take care of yourself!
Beth 110-115 wpm? WOW a speed demon!
Kim “almost nothing is on special sale” yup. Just looked at Freddie’s weekly ad, no bargains, no real sales. Omigosh Kim, that is a BIG snake. What kind?
Julie do you think your fatigue is physical, emotional or spiritual?
Rebecca that sleeping Athena Rose is just the image I needed. Thank you.
Started typing when I “worked” in Daddy’s Railway Express office as a child for a quarter and a Nehi Cream Soda. Didn’t realize he was babysitting me He taught me to type with two fingers, building up to typing the monthly statements for sending out Eventually learned to be more accurate (due carbon paper). Typing I and II in high school on manual typewriter. Ditto what’s been said about IBM Selectrics, keyboards, word processors, computers, Word Perfect and MS Office. Rejoiced at word processing, did not mourn the loss of carbon paper at all. Yes I can still look someone in the eye while typing, but I’m not really listening unless I’m taking notes for meeting minutes. 72 wpm minus 1 for typo.

Last day of my holiday. Tomorrow I'm back at work ... but at home. However it does mean that I'll have to drag myself out of a bed about an hour earlier than I have been doing. I'll also have to deal with about 100 emails ... I've seen them come in but have ignored them.
Anyway, I'm still working on 2 papers. Today was technically the due date but we've been given 5 extra days.
I'm well into the the first one and if all goes well, I should be at the writing stage tomorrow.
I have a system for my papers now.
1) Do a little bit of research on the important terms in the instructions so that I have definitions and a few alternate terms.
2) Search for articles on the Library website that talk about the important aspects of the paper. I may have to use alternate terms to find some of the papers. I try to aim for about 5 papers per topic.
3) Create References from the articles I've found. I may delete some if I decide not to use them, but I feel better when I've got a good references page with at least 15 references and in some courses, that alone is worth a few marks.
4) Create Title Page, Contents Page, and structure with all main headings. If I'm running out of time, I don't want to be fussing with this stuff at the end.
5) Read the articles and copy/paste sentences and paragraphs into the right sections of my paper complete with the appropriate in-text citation.
6) And at last ... use what I've got to write my paper. There's a lot of summarising and deleting involved. If I start to run out of time, I tend to be a tad quote-heavy. If I've got more time, more summarising takes place.
My husband and I got out for another beach walk. It's lovely out there. I wanted to take Rhody out for a walk around the yard, but it was rainy and windy all day.

We have a huge pile of these flowers along the fence. My husband's sister gave us a packet of seeds and I had no idea how big they would grow!! Or how long they would keep blooming.

Sitting here steaming as I try to cool down from my 30 minutes on the elliptical... and a warm kitty in my lap is not helping. Bless her, she's in kneady-pointy-soon-to-be-stabby mode, so she's kneading my thighs, and gently using her claws at the tip end of each movement, not enough to make me cranky, just enough to make sure I know she's in need of some petting. If I ignore her, it gets to the stabby level.
Workwise, I'm in that head place where there are too many deadlines, and time seems to accordion - as if I have all the time in the world, and then suddenly no time at all, and then I realize I have plenty of time once more, take a breath, and then snap right back to feeling pressured. No fun, but not unusual, as it's completely self-imposed. The answer seems to be to put my deadlines into two or three different visualizations, a calendar, a report, a connected Smart-Art, and then I can finally breathe again.
It was a lovely weekend, lots of yard work Saturday, rainy day on Sunday just getting some of the domestic things done. And I did complete the draft of one painting. I'm learning to paint on multi-media paper first, instead of canvas, so I can make mistakes and they're forgivable (to me). Waste of paint, but necessary for my own perfectionist tendencies. The painting is now firmly lodged in my head, and I just need the time to do it...
Welcome to those who are new - welcome back to those we haven't seen in a while.
Love y'all,

Good morning ladies!
Karen in VA - that time lapse of the gal growing up is fabulous!
Has anyone heard from NYKaren? I think she was taking some time off from us? Hope her Rachel is home and everyone doing well in her family. I made a big pot of lentil soup a few days ago and dumped some curry paste into it, thought of her.
Carol - have you heard anything re Lenora? I think of her and her family too - her own fragile health.
New ladies - as you can see, once we get to know you, you become a part of our "family" ;-).
Typing - I used to type around 60 WPM. I was born with oddly short pinky fingers, so have learned to substitute ring fingers for some of the keys depending on the keyboard. Glad I learned it!
Kim - do you know what kind of snake that is? I could use him in our garage: I've caught 5 mice traps out there in the past week.
We're supposed to have a sunny, warm day. The plan is to attack more of the garden and flower bed area - get the tomato holes dug while the dirt is still damp, before the clay soil sets up.
Wishing you all a good week.

It's a little cooler this morning but I have the right clothes and walked the dogs for 40 minutes before breakfast. It is so nice to see the sky getting light between 5 and 6 AM. I love the prospect of a day with no plans except doing what I want to do.
Michele, I, too, am concerned about all the places you are going. Maybe NC is different from WA but it seems to me that what you are doing far exceeds going out for essentials. You went out to more places yesterday than I've been to altogether since March 12.
I didn't take the typing test because for me, one of the joys of retirement is not having to take tests. I learned to touch type in high school and type well enough to do all the things I need to do. When I'm on a roll with my thoughts I type continuously and go back later to correct, and when I'm thinking as I go, I correct my errors as they show up. I never got any good at typing numbers so I always do them hunt and peck.
Yesterday I figured out just how shallow I am. The only thing I'm looking forward to when the virus measures are over is the opportunity to buy grind it yourself peanut butter.

I hate group projects and even chose my master's degree program because the university promised no group projects. Like Machka, I usually ended up doing most of the work and got frustrated by my groupmates' lack of effort. I was beyond furious when one of my instructors in that program made us do a group project. The good news is that my 2 partners actually stepped up and one of them is now a very dear friend. I even still keep in touch with that instructor.
However, I still hate group things and I hate talking on the phone, but much prefer that over a Zoom call. The appeal of Zoom happy hours escapes me.
Tina in CA
I was hoping that a Masters in IT would involve us each working on our own projects on our own computers ... but when the number of students in the program increased from about 100 to about 500, the teachers started wanting group work.
I've had a few group projects that have been successes. Of all the group projects I've done over the years, they probably amount to about 10%.
In one, each group had to present a topic each week for 5 weeks ... something like a 5 minute powerpoint. There were 5 of us in each group and we were told that we could arrange the workload however we wanted. Most groups stood at the front in their group of 5 and each did a small section of the topic. Our group looked at the number of topics and looked at the number in our group ... and decided to each take one topic. That worked really well and we got a great mark.
And that is, I think, how group work should be tackled. Divide it up and each work on your own section. After all, in business, no employer hires 5 people to do one job. 5 people might be on one project, but you're each working on your own section.
In another, complete opposite, story ... I was in a group where we had all sat down and divided the project. We agreed we would each work on our own sections, and on a certain date, we would share them to see if other group members had feedback. Then we would put it all together. 3 members of the 4 were really good. 1 kept emailing us, wanting to meet so that we could all tell her what to write. I kept offering her suggestions but told her that we were each doing our own sections Finally right near the end she came up with about a paragraph combined with a long whiny email saying we had excluded her. The other 3 of us ended up doing her section and it was a mad scramble to get it in on time. We didn't get a great mark ............ and she wanted to complain to the teacher that she had put in all this work and didn't get the mark she expected!!!
But probably the worst one was another group of 4 where one would not participate in anything at all ... and then near the end, he started sabotaging our work! We were all supposed to be working in one particular shared drive ... and after we discovered what he was doing, we moved it all to another one without telling him.
Personally, I like to work at my own pace on my own stuff, and I will take whatever mark I'm given. Most of the time I think it's a fair mark given how much effort I put into it.
Fortunately the two papers I'm working on now are individual.

Barbie - What is grind it yourself peanut butter? PB was unobtainable once this crisis started. It was on the same level as TP. Normally I will only eat Whole Earth Crunchy, but I went on Amazon and found two jars of something similar. I'm enjoying it right now.
I've added to my supermarket order, putting in some treats for our 'meeting anniversary' on May 6th. It will be 17 years since our first date. We met up at a pub in London after work, after finding each other on internet dating. The rest is history.......
