I remember a time when the boards were active and sometimes youd have to hunt for a board you posted on cause it had flew onto the second page..
Someone told me it was scammers... but that didnt really make sense to me.. lol

I agree I too think the boards have been less busy. I miss reading all the posts.5

Kind of disappointing when you're stuck inside and it's like a ghost town almost for conversation and discussion2

Hypothesis: Hanging out on the boards is something that goes with being in active diet mode, either because it's fun to talk about dieting when you're losing weight, or because you're in knowledge-acquisition mode as part of gearing up to get serious. But right now, many people are either (like me, now) hanging on by a thread to their diets during the depressing, monotonous quarantine, or (like me, a few weeks ago) not really dieting at all. AKA binging. It isn't as fun or engaging to read and chat about dieting when you're not fully in diet mode.
It'll be back. Right now, everyone's hunkered down, trying to find something they haven't already seen on Netflix, and wondering whether it's worth the mortal risk to make the trip to acquire more Skinny Pop.37 -
It's been quieter since the stay at home orders. I'd guess a lot of people simply aren't emotionally equipped to think too much about losing weight right now in the middle of this, so they don't have as many questions.
The covid and food porn threads are still pretty busy. I think it's just about where people's heads are right now.23 -

I've been around here over seven years, and it's pretty much like January gym memberships. I think also with coronavirus, a lot of people just have their plates full with other things ad likely can't be bothered to do a bunch of hand wringing over calories.12 -
See now that's what I told the guy who told me it was scammers and he told me I was wrong lol... I said people must not be emotionally able to diet during covid..
I knew it didnt make sense... cause I was like...how could someone scam someone on a message board? And do it enough to make people leave... lol

Its also easter......1

Well easter hasn't been 3 weeks long.. lol but yeah the weekend doesnt help the deadness3

My take is that people have other things to worry about and are letting the boards slide. I've seen many new people signing in and some are asking for help. No one is going to the gym, so all those threads are dead. People also aren't interacting with others out and about and those threads, and rants, are also gone. People are just trying to get through this as best they can right now. They'll be back. Many on my friends list disappeared for a couple of weeks, but are back now, exercising as best they can. However, their logging streaks are gone and they're back to 0. A lot of adjustments for us all.13

All good possibilities. I've noticed over the years that people post most during the week, and a lot less on weekends. It's really noticeable in the summer, when I'm online more in general. I don't post from work, so I post on weekends or during summer weekdays. Bottom line is, a lot of folks post from work. Perhaps b/c of all the already stated reasons, and not having the habit of posting from home, people are generally less active here.12

I'm assuming PM. I sent one too, but the messaging system seems hit and miss if you aren't MFP friends with someone.2 -
I usually check my notifications page before checking the boards via topic area. Judging things like my AM new notifications count, I think most of the volume may still be there, but more focussed in particular threads (that "Coronavirus Prep" one is very, very busy ).
It does seem like there are fewer new general/miscellaneous posts, though.
Longer term, I subjectively think volume is down . . . like it felt as if this January 1 wasn't as busy as last year. Maybe the trend has moved on to Noom, or some other site.
There's a lot of "calorie counting doesn't work" content in the popular blogosphere (I still have subs to some mainstream e-newsletters where I see this, for example). I don't know whether there's more of that (more focused, if not more numerous) than previously, though. There are trends within dumbness, though, for sure.
Note to self: Unsubscribing stupid newsletters I mostly ignore would be a good use of quarantine time.15 -

I have noticed that, too. A huuuuuuge influx of "calorie counting doesn't work" stuff all over the web, like just in the last few weeks.
Must be some kind of post-New Year's resolution post-mortem thing.
It's odd that year after year, the one thing that actually works and is completely proven and dependable for weight loss is decried as the thing that doesn't work. It's like reading year in and year out that if you want to take a trip by sea, the one thing you absolutely cannot do is use a boat, anything else is OK but for God sake do NOT get on a boat.14 -

... oh yes, it still amazes me how calorie deficit seems to be the biggest farce to people lolol..
I agree about unsubscribing, I somehow ended up on one for politics by signing a petition lol.. I get all kinds of useless garbage in my email lol3 -

Was sending you a pm dot dot dot lol1 -
I didnt get it. Lol.
Now I really AM curious2 -
coming from someone who used to post a lot...
I don't because I got sick and tired of being jabbed at and poked at and reported for inane stuff...that was alright one day then bam it wasn't without warning.
For example one day I reported a poster for being under aged...and let them know that I had reported them...just as an FYI...and not in a mean way (or that wasn't my intent)
I got put in Jail for that...without any recourse...I and many others had in previous times posted to underaged individuals that we had reported their profile as people under 18 aren't suppose to be here...without incident then all of the sudden it's not okay.
So there...when you silence people boards become quiet...and you are going to find that it becomes more and more quiet as people are silenced more and more...
I post a bit now and then but not nearly as much...I usually read the stuff that is repeated over and over again and see the same information being requested and given...and with the fear of saying the wrong thing to the wrong person or people assuming tone...no point in posting back usually.
*shrugs* I fully expect to get in trouble for this post.
Oh I understand that, before I left I'm pretty sure my image had permanent jail bars on it most of the time.. lol.. I remember having to set a timer so I knew when I could post a message again.. I actually forgot about all that until you mentioned it!2
