So... how come mfp is so quiet now?

I'm keeping to my regime but veering towards maintenance/recomp since I don't have much to lose now. In terms of the boards being quiet, I don't tend to be all that active here but I am finding that I am spending much less time on all boards I used to frequent, whether to read or participate. Mostly it's because I am finding everything in lockdown takes up SO much time. I had fondly imagined box sets and loads of saxophone practice but no. By the time I have cooked, cleaned, washed etc (plus spent ages shopping) the day just flies away.4

You must have kids or a big family?
I'm alone with a cat, besides the dishes i dont really have much to clean, and cooking for one is pretty low on time consumption as well, I've been pretty bored out of my mind lol
My day is:
Breakfast, watch tv, lunch, more tv, supper, go downstairs and watch stuff on the phone til tired, sleep lol
Cant workout cause of a foot injury and I've left the house twice since I've been off lol5 -
Usually always quiets down after New Year's resos have reset.
Usually as the warmer weather comes this place the dust settles.
Also I would hazard those who frequent here during work hours don't find it as entertaining as things they can do at home.4 -
When I go back to work may 1 it will be different for me because we arent allowed to be on our phones in any common areas, not that I have the time anyway, pretty busy with the residents, setting tables, serving meals, doing dishes, cant do that with a phone in your hands lol2

I'm working, and it's still easy for me to toggle over, as the work I'm doing is sitting at a desk writing stuff on the computer, when I'm not on the phone. However, the discussion about non coronavirus stuff seems way down (to the point that I think "yay, a sugar thread" which is not normal). It's partly always quieter this time of year than January, but I really do think that a lot of people are finding it harder to think about dieting stuff and so we don't get so many newbies in particular, who tended to make up a lot of the question-based threads.
Debate is way quiet too, however.2 -
Well I am pretty sure I almost died lol...
A couple of my packages came today which is a nice break in the monotony lol... but I wasnt prepared for what was to come...
I ordered a 30lbs weighted blanket, which is 5 pounds heavier then the recommended one for my weight but I like heavy so.. lol
I guess I wasnt expecting the heavy blanket itself to be inside something similar to a duvet cover. I picked it up out of the packaging and that 30lbs blanket slumped to the floor leaving me holding an empty cover.. lol
So I pushed the coffee table out of the way and tried to spread it back out, after 15 minutes of bending over, sweating to death, I was still no closer to getting it back to normal as every attempt to pull it down, bunched up the top lol
So... I picked it up and dragged it downstairs to the bedroom, I have my own duvet cover to match my decor so I made an attempt to put the blanket inside but that was even worse.
So I decided to put it on the bed and just cover it with the cover loosely on top, I got it on the bed but still could spread it out and when I would pull it, the fitted sheet plus the mattress cover kept being pulled off, I kept having to redo them.
Finally I got fed up with it and pulled the weighted blanket out of its original casing and was finally.....FINALLY able to spread it across my bed and put the cover loosely on top and remake the bed.
If I haven't lost any water weight these last 2 weeks... I sure did now... what a struggle!!!8 -
coming from someone who used to post a lot...
I don't because I got sick and tired of being jabbed at and poked at and reported for inane stuff...that was alright one day then bam it wasn't without warning.
For example one day I reported a poster for being under aged...and let them know that I had reported them...just as an FYI...and not in a mean way (or that wasn't my intent)
I got put in Jail for that...without any recourse...I and many others had in previous times posted to underaged individuals that we had reported their profile as people under 18 aren't suppose to be here...without incident then all of the sudden it's not okay.
So there...when you silence people boards become quiet...and you are going to find that it becomes more and more quiet as people are silenced more and more...
I post a bit now and then but not nearly as much...I usually read the stuff that is repeated over and over again and see the same information being requested and given...and with the fear of saying the wrong thing to the wrong person or people assuming tone...no point in posting back usually.
*shrugs* I fully expect to get in trouble for this post.

I feel your frustration. Being back here again after losing 165lbs the first time and having gained almost all of it back, makes me feel like a fraud for offering advice to others..
But I also try to tell myself, maybe my words can prevent them from becoming me.. someone who has to put my own advice into practice.
Do you know how or why it happened? There must have been various points during the regain where you saw what was happening and tried to regroup but couldn't for some reason. Yet you must've had tremendous self-discipline and determination to lose the 165 lbs in the first place. What changed? I am extremely interested in hearing more about this if you're up for describing it a little.

I have binge eating disorder, I've had it since I was a small child, I was over weight my whole life, even as early as 9 and people with binge eating disorder live in a continuous binge and restrict frame of mind, so any efforts to lose weight over my life were met with a binge cycle following it
It took me a long time to find a doctor that would listen to me that it was an issue because I had diabetes too and they were only interested in putting me on insulin and not addressing the underlying issue.
I was finally able to see a psychiatrist at the eating disorder clinic who was able to put me on a medication called vyvanse.
I didnt realize it at the time but the medication was simply prolonging the restrict cycle, which is how I was able to lose the weight, but I didnt even get to transition to maintenance before everything started falling apart
Before I knew it, I was exhibiting habits of bulimia, trying to control what was slipping through my fingers and I was terrified because I kept trying to restrict and restrict more to control things and it just kept snowballing
I was 135, I looked sick, my bones were sticking out, I was so tired all the time I could barely function anymore, and eventually I just ran out of fight and the binge part of the loop returned.
I made a couple of attempts to stop it before it got worse but was unable to succeed.
I'm back on vyvanse now but it's not the same as the first time, its helping tho..
My eating disorder psychiatrist told me that while mfp is good for most people, with someone like me, with an eating disorder, calorie restriction, even tho it's a choice made by me and not a severe one, it's still the same, my brain is allowing me now to have this restriction, and I could get another 2 years but it's just perpetuating the binge and restrict cycle.
So for now... I'm here and doing it because I need some weight off for my health, but he insists that i receive a certain therapy that's designed for people with eating disorders that allows them.to achieve a healthy weight but not seem like I'm purposefully restricting so that it breaks the binge and restrict cycle I'm forever stuck in. I'm just unable to cause covid and insurance isnt going to cover it.
thanks for this detailed answer to my question. I never heard of Vyvanse before and didn't know there was such a thing as a drug for binging behavior. I've been on a good, successful diet for 10 months, but all my previous ones of the 3-4 month, 25-40 lb variety entailed gaining all the weight back and then some, after horrible and I mean insane binging I know I still haven't fully conquered, though I've gotten a lot better at regrouping quickly - like the next day, instead of 4 years later LOL But the tendency is still there, I know I haven't beaten it. I think about that a lot and how fragile this whole diet thing is, even for those who have their "system" down and can opine all day long on what works and what doesn't. It works until it doesn't, is my thinking. It's really a fragile thing. I appreciate your insights.
This insight resonates for me. I'm a binge eater. I have been since adolescence (40 years). With effort and time, the intensity of the binge and restrict ends of the pendulum have moderated. I still go overboard (unplanned), but in general it's a few hundred calories instead of a few thousand, and the frenzied IDGAF mental state lasts an hour.
I also agree it works until it doesn't. I often ponder why it is that I can stay on-plan with seemingly little mental struggle for a pretty long time--several weeks-- and then I find myself off track and wonder what happened that was different. Paradoxically, accepting that it's a fragile thing helps everything -- it helps me accept my behavior when I drive into a ditch, it helps me move on, it inclines me to make careful choices vs. cocky choices. If I could go back and give my 20 year old self encouragement, I would say press on because even when it seems like more effort than it should be, the effort adds up and it really does get better over time. And start lifting weights. (That was good advice I actually got in my 20's but ignored.)5 -
I agree, that's why I'm trying to be sympathetic to myself rather then critical cause honestly.. sometimes it's not even anything I did or could control, the pendulum as you put it, just swung the other way.3

After a few weeks of losing myself I'm back logging. I need the routine, discipline. Actually we have more time to prep and cook our food so I know many people eating healthier and taking advantage of getting outside to exercise every decent day they have.
I was so use to going to my two studios; For two weeks I did well and then things with hubby's health went off track and combined with being overwhelmed with all the news I got lazy. The next 3 weeks I did walk a few days a week but only did my strength work 1x or 2x week. I slowly have climbed out of the lazy mode and treating myself to comfort junk as I'd say. Now I'm getting back on track and my psyche is pumped to best this 'stay at home' .
**I'm not gonna let this virus derail all my work and keep me from the healthy lifestyle that works for me** So bring it on, I'm gonna beat it down!4 -
All this home cooking has my cranky pants fitting a bit tighter than usual. I'm trying keep out of trouble.5

I'm actually having an easier time... with covid, I dont wanna order take out, so I haven't had anything in weeks now. I've cooked only at home.
Of course I've spent way more on food then usual lol3 -
I have been doing more baking. Fresh homemade biscottis are so good.3

This is my problem too. Now I'm trying to figure out what I'm going to do with a 4 ton bag of flour that I got at Costco today. I had two partially used 1kg bags, and both were expired (2018 and 2019). That's how often I use them. I started baking muffins and biscuits these last two weeks. Now I'm looking at bread starter, tortillas, and pancake mix. It's actually kind of nice to have some time to go back to basics around the house.4 -

I have ordered some take out, but much less frequently than I had been. The last order I put in with Boston Pizza, I noticed they are now delivering alcohol, which they never used to do. I had to pick up a bottle of wine, just because.2 -
