Pouring rain today. The dog is sad she has to wear her raincoat but when she gets soaked it takes hours for her heavy coat to dry out. Doing well with eating and exercise today.
Rori - Sending you strength and angels.
Katla - We are in the agriburbs and have a whole herd of blacktail deer that move through here regularly. You can approach within about 10 feet of them without them moving off. DD has chased them off only to have them follow her back when she turns back toward the house. We have put up really sturdy fencing made of handy panels and deer netting from TSC. That is about the only thing we have found to stop them. I wish they would munch on all the blackberries.
Everyone take care, Sue in WA3 -
Did Reebok Cardio Tone DVD. The plan for tomorrow is to do Billy’s Boot Camp DVD. This is a new one for me. Hope it’s not all kickboxing, that’s not something that I’m into.
Amber – good for you teaching RJ Spanish. How I wish my grandparents had taught me Polish, but I understand why they didn’t
Hmmm…can’t seem to find my post from yesterday. Oh well.
I do remember sending a big hug to Rori
Ordered more cat litter from WalMart. It’s so handy to have them deliver it. They even put it in the garage for me. 35pounds can get real heavy. The only other thing is that Target sometimes has it on sale and I can save $2.50. But then I have a lot in my garage. This was I only have to order 3 to free shipping
Barbara – boy, you reminded me of so many games from my childhood. I remember wearing as colorful a babushka as I could just so I’d have all the colors for “Mother May I”
SuziQ – glad you got rid of the dresser. One time we had a lawn mower we needed to get rid of. So we put it on the front lawn (remember, we live on a cul-de-sac) and the next day it was gone even tho we put a sign on it “does not work”
Coffee (instant or brewed) – double yuk
Katla – when I go to log my foods, lately many times I’ve gotten the message “MFP does not support”, I just hit the “back button” and then “add food” again, and it usually works

Katla - I remember attending a composting workshop and we were told the worst things from a health point of view to add to our compost was dog and cat poop. I did not retain the whats/whys that was just that the poop needed to go in the trash. I would do some research before putting near edibles.
Kim from N. California
A lot of it has to do with the fact that cats and dogs are carnivores. Eating meat means that their scat has certain bacteria in it which is not healthy for humans.
And that's why manure is usually from a plant-eating animal.I am attempting to use the dog droppings as deer repellant, not compost. Our usual practice is to flush dog droppings down the toilet. If you have a good idea for deer repellent I will be very happy to flush the dog poo as we usually do.
Ask at your local hardware store/garden centre.
Oh I see you did!I’ve found a deer repellant at Ace Hardware & will get some today. I will be very pleased to make a change for the better.

Katla A couple of weeks ago, I moved a hose near the hosta the deer were eating in anticipation of the arrival of my new motion-sensing sprinkler, which I hoped would scare them off without harming them. I recently noticed that the hosta were growing back; I haven't installed the sprinkler yet…so I'm thinking maybe the hose looks like a snake or something. At any rate, the hosta are thriving!
Kim and Katla I learned in my Master Gardener course through our county extension office that dog and cat poop may contain parasites. I think too big a deal is made out of this, since most of us worm our dogs regularly when we give them heartworm medicine. Even so, I don't put dog poop in the compost pile. I wish I had alpaca poop. It's supposed to make wonderful compost.
Rori Thanks for checking in. I think about you every day and wonder how you are doing. I think it wise to go through all of the motions necessary for your husband to be in a care facility, because you don't always have the luxury of planning it all out when the time comes. It's good to have your ducks in a row. You didn't mention your brother…
Tea My plumber instructed me. I put 4 or 5 bags of PG Tips tea into a prewarmed 1 quart ceramic teapot; bring water just to boiling and pour over teabags. Put the teapot into a cozy and steep 5-7 minutes. Then savor a hot cup of strong black tea. For a rare indulgence, I make the tea with 6 bags and put heavy cream in it for a cup of pure heaven. If I'm in a hurry, I put a teabag (Constant Comment or Cinnamon Stick or Peppermint) in my stainless steel Tervis and fill with boiling water & head out the door.
Coffee Peet's coffee. French press. Delish.
…I have to be judicious these days about drinking coffee and tea because I get burny bladder if I indulge too much - and the stronger the brew, the worse the problem.
Pogo discussion I totally forgot we had stilts. I was pretty good on the stilts. And hula hoop. Not good at pogo stick or unicycle, though.
SuziQ Well done on the bureau. My dear mom used to use her smart brain to figure out how to move heavy things by herself. It was amazing what she could accomplish by herself.

Heather - My grandmothers’s brother was a bachelor and lived his whole life in the house they grey up in. I was 12 when he passed away. Many items from the house are now in the County Historical Society. One of those items was an old Pogo that was wooden. I remember playing on it when we went to visit.
Suzi - I have to weigh every day and log every bite to keep on track. I stopped for a few months and it shows.
Lisa - I wasn’t going to comment on the tea post as I was sure everyone would be silently shaking their head at me. I too drink Tetley, boiled water poured over it, I don’t let steep much add milk and two sugar. My Dad used to tell me I should drink dishwater instead. I always reminded him that I was sure it was his Father that gave me tea as a treat when I was young and doctored it for me.
We used to make homemade stilts too! My Dad was the carpenter that made them for my brother and I.
Suzi - I was wondering if you were in an area you could do that. Our little trailer park is quite adept at putting things out for someone to come take. My daughter picked up a cute little bench for her wedding last year from a neighbour that had it. Our Grandson was appalled as he thought she was stealing it.
Instant Coffee- my Mother in Law brought her own bottle of instant coffee with her when she came to visit last year. She was scared we wouldn’t have her brand and wasn’t going to drink “that $*it we call coffee”. I love her to death.
My daughter ran away from her husband and children last night for the first time since February and came to craft at our house. She has spent the last few months completely organizing and cleaning her home. She has one room left. Last night she made a command centre for her dining room to help the Grands learn what their chores are, prepare them for what the meals for the week are and what the plans are. I will share photos in my next post.
I am getting ready to go for a walk when I finish this post I think. I’m actually not feeling 100% today so not sure if I’ll make it or not.

Went back in the pool. It was 86 today and I think now it's warmer. It's getting to the point where it is no longer refreshing. But it WAS good to get doing something. I ask Jess to go for a walk with me or go in the pool. She always says "no". Wish she would. If you want to lose weight, the "eat less, move more" is what you need to do. I just feel so bad for her, but I don't say anything unless she asks me. This afternoon she had 2 cans of spaghettio's. Spaghettio's can be worked into the daily calorie, you just need to account for it. And have one can instead of 2. But I just don't say anything.

Michele, I know how hard it is for you to keep your mouth shut about the things your daughter does that are not good for her health. A wise person told me "Never pass up an opportunity to say nothing".3

Michele: I don’t talk to my daughter about weight, either. When I was a full time working mom with kids I was definitely chunky. I was finally able to do something about it when I discovered myfitnesspal and had the good luck of finding this group. By then my kids were grown and on their own. I didn’t lose the weight until after I retired. Now my daughter is a full time working mom and provider. She does a lot of juggling and I’m proud of her. I love her as she is. It will be a long time before she is able to retire and focus on her own health.

Rori - It's good to see you. Glad you're looking into long-term care. Your strength continues to awe me, as does Machka's.How to Make TeaSo, keeping it lighthearted and not too judgemental ... how do you make tea? How do you like your tea?
Machka in Oz
Apologies ahead of time to any tea drinkers in England and Ireland - I boil water in a kettle, then pour it over a teabag in a mug (Tetley here, can't get PG Tips). Everything's fine up to that point... but then I put a tablespoon of sugar-free vanilla non-dairy creamer and two Splenda in it. Learned to drink tea with milk during the six years I lived in England (Sussex for three years and Berkshire for three years, at RAFB Lakenheath then RAFB Greenham Common, with an eight year gap in between). The ladies I worked with in the military kitchens would have been so disappointed with me!
What I found funny about the video, Machka, is that Americans are just as whack-a-doodle about coffee as our brethren and sistren from whence we came are about tea... and during the time I was there, never met a British person with a coffee pot - only instant coffee, which makes most Americans shudder. You never hear about that, though, where the hot tea thing is a recognized meme.Whidislander wrote: »Heather thought that was Bea on the pogo stick, she has really gotten long and lean as her sister! As a child we had homemade stilts! Scary but fun!
💖Rebecca
YES! I was trying to figure out why we never had pogo sticks as a kid (besides being poor as church mice), and the answer was that we didn't have sidewalks, as I grew up in the country. But as soon as I read this, Rebecca, I remembered the homemade stilts we played with. Thank you for that memory! My brothers made them--because of course, I was a girl, and not allowed to touch a hammer 🙄. For anyone who doesn't know what we're talking about, ours looked quite a bit like the ones in the spoiler below. Note - the kid in the picture is definitely not any kid I ever knew, as Crocs did not exist, and would have probably gotten the crap beat out of you if you wore them. Still, good childhood memories, even if no pogo sticks.
Later y'all,
Love,
Lisa
Awe, memories are awesome! We also stomped on soda cans sideways, so they stuck in our tennis shoes the circle good and bottoms on either side of our shoes. Then we'd walk around loudly! 😁

I'm so sorry, Allie. I thought you were going up there for a mini-vacation, not to work. Perhaps that wasn't made clear to your brother. You are entitled to a break and relaxation now and then.
Take care.

Hey all! Happy Wednesday! I am so happy for today, because today, ALL of the kids will nap/rest! lol even the newly five year old! Most days I have the five year old and one of the three year olds doing something quiet in the kitchen (where I am) while the littler ones sleep in the living room. Wednesday is my eatlunchbymyselfwithoutalittleonechatteringawayorneedinganything Day!
INstant coffee - Well, there has to be one in this group, and I guess it is me. I switched to instant coffee about five years ago when I decided a pot of coffee a day was too much for one person. Tried making only half a pot, but the pot, filters, and ground coffee were too convincing and I would always make more. I thought about getting a Keurig type coffee maker, but the coffee pods are SO expersive (comparatively) and having to clean little tubes and filters is a big NO for me. So instant saves the day. When I go out, or am on vacation, I, of course, seek out the yummier brewed version.
Pogo stick/Hula hoops- I could do both passably well; but my childhood pastime was spent mostly on wheels. I rollerskated, skateboarded, and biked everywhere. I looked for jumps and dips and stairs to go over, I also would attempt (many times) to tie a rope to a bike, motor bike, or car and have someone pull me. lol I was also good with jump ropes and would even jump with my skates on. My sister could pogo and hula forever and do all sorts of tricks. Anyhow, my knees are a mess (appearance wise) due to the many wipe outs on wheels (and one fall out of a tree house).
Allie- You have come so far since standing up to Tom! You are a strong person. I know it is hard to stand up to people we love; but it always feels good in my heart and soul when I can calmly tell those people where I am at and what I will and won't do/tolerate. You are so good at standing up for others; it is time to stand up for yourself again! You are WORTH it!!!
Rori- So good to hear from you and my heart is with you! I am sending strong vibes/prayers for strength, patience, and peace to you! Take care, friend.
Karen VA Lilly Belle! How did she get so big?

Karen - Oh my word! I don't know which I love most, Lilly Belle, or her smocked dress!
The butcher came round with his delivery. It was the lovely Phil, who owns/runs it. He is so good at customer relations. I really admire good service. It is a real talent. So kind to include all the chicken thigh trimmings and bones in a separate bag for me to make stock.
Unfortunately, getting all the meat sorted and into the freezers took me long enough to divert me from writing this morning. I am easily distracted. This afternoon I have my girly Zoom.

I attended a city meeting last night and it went on for a long time. This is the largest group I've been in for a long time. I'm up early this morning and am eagerly waiting for my coffee, despite being tired. I hope this will be a lazy day, or at least a restful one. I'm tired this morning and up early. I foresee a nap in my future.

Morning, afternoon and evening, all,
Karen in VA - Lilly Belle just keeps getting cuter...
Insomnia last night was horrible, I was up and down until about 3 a.m., and then in the littlest room in the house until 4 a.m. I really hate it when my gut spasms so hard that I end up nauseated as well... Afterward, got laundry in the washer, made myself a cup of coffee and Corey's lunch, and as soon as he pulled out for work at 5:15, I was back in bed until about 7 a.m., which was helpful.
Now that I've gotten used to sleeping at least seven hours a night, when I don't, I feel as dumb as a sack of hammers--my mind feels like it's three steps behind everything. Ick.
But I dragged my draggy behind onto the elliptical, along with the rest of me, so there's my NSV for the moment.
Got the first load of laundry on the line, and have one more load to put out. The weather is just superb this morning for being outside - 62 degrees, a good little wind blowing, with clear skies expected tonight. After the laundry is up, I'm going to get some of the garden work done that Corey asked if I would. Mounding up the dirt on his potatoes, staking a couple of other things up, and repotting a couple of pea plants he finally coaxed into sprouting inside. He's beginning to figure out that having me home and not working means he doesn't have to get all this stuff done in the evenings.
And, a little physical work is all I'm good for this morning, as the rest is just beyond me. Yesterday I made the leap again and purchased rights to a web domain and hosting for two years. I took all my old stuff down a while back; it was more than I could do to keep up with it, and got outdated quickly. Now I'll have a clean slate--but it's a lot of focused effort to get a site and a blog up and running again. But I have no deadlines I have to hit, thank goodness, 'cause ain't none of it getting done today.
In fact, once I get my chores finished, I might just go back to bed.
Egg is sitting on my lap telling me she thinks I should.
Love y'all,

Tracey - Love the command centre, especially the chores boards. That is a great idea to have the moveable labels.
My DDIL was very good at charts and gold stars. She used them last to persuade Bea to go to the bathroom on her own and not drag an adult in there with her. Smiley faces etc.
I used charts, emoticons and gold stars to get myself to drink less a few years ago. It can be very effective.

Katla never thought I’d say this, but “Hooray for dog poop!” I”ve also heard that stringing up strong smelling soap (Safeguard, Irish Spring, Fels Naptha) discourages deer, but I wouldn’t want my beans to smell like that either!
Kim that long picnic/talk/walk with your nephew sounds like it was just what the doctor ordered. Good, no doubt, for the both of you.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/2020/06/09/coronavirus-hospitalizations-rising/
I believe these upticks in hospitalization are effectively the second wave already in progress. Fortunately, we appear to be more prepared - but a number of deaths seem like a high price to pay for a day at the beach. Unfortunately, George Floyd's death will drive the second wave through the protestors' proximity.

Sue & Barbara,
I bought deer repellent containers that hang on wire a wire hoops, and put doggy poop on the ground between the curb and the bean row. I saw no damage this morning.
Keeping my fingers crossed that this continues to work.

Enjoyed my girly Zoom.
Then I emailed easyjet about my non existent refund.
Then I texted my lovely brother about his son's assessments. He rang me back. They are not doing exams this year, so they are assessing the students instead. He has offers from Cambridge, Warwick and Southampton. At the moment he is shielding, so deferring is a problem. He might as well go in the 'bubble' they are meant to be creating at uni. They don't know when the assessments are coming. Love my bruv.
Our Zoom was great and I held my tongue when my difficult friend talked about buying ANOTHER house! Her 6th? Plus one each to rent for the kids. She now wants one suitable for her old age.
I think my York/Portsmouth friend might be flouting the rules and coming down to Portsmouth on Friday. She has had the virus and the current rules make no sense. If she comes I will see her on the beach, at a distance, and bring our own food and drink. Even though I know she has had it, I feel I have to stick to the rules. We haven't seen the kids since they went back to school. That hurts. I'm going to ask for a Zoom. No extra confirmed cases in Brighton and Hove overnight. I'm hoping the hot weekends visitors took their bugs home with them. Bit early to tell.
Lisa - I see your increase in cases online.
Much love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx
Thinking of a few people. BeUncommon, Janetr, Penny. And a couple of others i can't remember their names.2
