Day 85 (Thursday)
After yesterday's vent about having so much on my plate and being so tired... I added to the plate. I had a call today with a book publisher to discuss a non-fiction book I had started to write in late 2019. Guess what happened to my book writing when March 2020 came around?? You guessed it. Someone I know just published a non-fiction book on meditation and mindfulness practices. I bought his book, enjoyed reading it, and thought... Why don't I see who his publisher is? Well, we're going to be working together. I have some time to plan before we start in, but today was a really BIG day. I do know that I'll need to really examine what I'm doing in my days and Marie Kondo some of it to make room for more fulfilling activities.
And I wanted so very badly to have a celebratory dinner, but had to stop myself. It is sooooo hard not to celebrate with food! But if I relent, then I'll be celebrating EVERYTHING with food and I'll be done for. So the compromise is I am going to have a small slice of my son's birthday cake in place of the carbs I would have had for dinner. I don't know how even that exchange is, so I can't say if I'm within my calorie goals, but it's better than a massive take-out meal

Good advice on the spending time for self care! What’s the expression- “If Momma ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy!” On the airplane, if the flight loses cabin pressure, you are instructed to put on your own oxygen mask before securing your child’s. If we aren’t taking care of ourselves, eventually we aren’t able to adequately take care of our loved ones.
Sorry I didn’t post last night. I was too tired as well! Am I sensing a common theme here!?!
@NadiaMayl I really sympathize with you as your kids go back to school in a less than ideal situation, to put it mildly! I think that would do me in! Luckily, my kids are grown but they have to contend with less than ideal work situations! As mothers, we never quit worrying! I think I’ve spent more time in prayer since all this started than I spend in two years’ time! I don’t know what the future holds, but I know who holds the future!
My mom just lost her best friend to Covid. She was up in years and rehabbing from a broken femur. The rehab facility had 26 workers test positive and I’ve lost count how many residents.
@MommaGemz A midweek beach trip sounds like just what the dr ( or therapist!) ordered! Even just a few hours at the beach was so therapeutic to me! Enjoy!

And writing a book, wow!! I seem to remember telling you that writing a book might be in your future! What are you writing about? You will definitely have to prioritize, prioritize, prioritize!! But it will be worth it in the end! I hear you on the wanting to celebrate with food! So hard not to do. Glad you found a compromise that worked! Moderation is definitely key. Still hard for me. That’s why I have to buy the Bryers 100 calorie ice cream cups instead of a half gallon! I could easily eat a half gallon in 3 or 4 servings if I allowed myself, or if I was majorly stressed, or sad, or celebrating....
@GabiV125 Having nightmares and sleeping for less than 4-5 hours a night sounds miserable. When you’re having nightmares, the quality of sleep is so bad that you can’t feel rested. I hope you can do some calming activities before bed and sleep well!

And I tried to update this morning but accidentally hit done instead of post... again. Oops. This week has been rough for me mentally. I think I'm experiencing PMS so I'm exhausted, too. Things that have been there as stressors all along are suddenly more likely to worsen my mood, I have no motivation, and I'm feeling like I'm just in survival mode. Decided to just be gentle on myself and try to just keep logging food and trying to keep in calorie goals. No exercising this week, but one day I had been so busy I did hit 6k steps. Tonight I made myself do things when I got home instead of sitting in my car texting my buddies venting about my stress. Made some better food to nourish myself, packed for our trip to the cabin tomorrow night, and now I'm doing some TLC with that clay avocado mask thing (finally). Haven't yet given myself the early bedtime I needed so bad this week but I did feel a bit better today nonetheless.
I noticed the schools here have students returning this week. The kids were out for recess today, I could see them as I did surgeries, out there playing rugby or football or something. Still not sold that going back to class is a good idea... sigh.
Despite not really being motivated to make anything healthy to eat, or get in some steps etc. I did manage to at least stay at a maintenance level of calories and may yet still see loss this week. Still a win.
I think I'm starting to come out of the funk, but this week has just felt extra stressful for me. Its not anything out of the recent ordinary (which is super stressful anyway) but it is getting to me more. Hopefully my long weekend will reset me and have me refreshed to come back and tackle our crazy schedule at work some more (the craziness has to slow down eventually... I hope). Sorry for the lack of posts. I've been reading and keeping tabs on the thread, just too exhausted to post and then hit the wrong button when I try... lol
Will be weighing in a day late this week as I won't be home Monday morning to weigh. That is gonna be a tough wait for me mentally, but perhaps desire to see it go down or at least maintain after a rough week will help keep me honest on calorie intake at the cabin...

Gosh, we do all seem to be thoroughly exhausted at the same time, @clutterqueen! I’m not sure I like this trend!
I managed to make time for my latest dose of sleep therapy and was ‘rewarded’ by a week of homework, which is forcing myself to go to bed and get up at set times (even at the weekend!) to get 5 hours. Apparently sleep restriction will help me get into a rhythm again if I endure this for 2 weeks.
Slept more solidly, even if I do feel abruptly woken and a bit groggy.
Weight is hanging around the same place, but it’s TOM so none of the readings are ‘real’ anyway. What tickles me is I’m so much lighter than when I started (about 29 lb down) and yet being .2lb heavier this morning makes me feel heavier.
I feel so in tune - one of my takeaway points is to listen to my body and also to look at it. You can go months without really looking, which makes weight creep unnoticeable. I’m trying to retrain myself to see myself for the weight I am, which is a different and separate goal to being happy with it.
Wearing clothes that accommodate multiple sizes is part of what got me in this mess - when I hit goal, I’m going to buy some new jeans and I’m not going to stop wearing jeans ever again. I need something I can wear that has an unforgiving enough waistband to let me know when my weight is fluctuating/on the up!
Disappointed my tests were cancelled at the last minute, but I suspect my clinician had to drop today at short notice due to having Covid systems. Have rescheduled for next Thursday with a different person and am hoping this goes ahead. I really want some answers.
Made some time to do a little study last night - and it was productive - I wonder if I can make that a regular habit.
Really exciting news for @MommaGemz! Well done, and also for recognising that your go to response would have been to overeat, and to instead compromise rather than go crazy. You’re going to be really busy (I am in awe of how much you juggle!), so I hope you manage to keep finding some time for yourself to unwind.
Sorry you’re having a low time, @kcd394. I hope the weekend manages to vitalise you - I keep getting told exercise is a mood booster, but I’m not sure how much I believe that!
@GabiV125 Well done for committing to making time for self-care! I think an underlying theme of weight gain is not putting ourselves first (running around looking after people), so I’m hopeful taking just half an hour to do some reading will help you feel better, and also subconsciously even more committed to the journey. Weight loss really is all about caring enough about ourselves to want to shift the excess pounds.

Yesterday was my husband’s b-day and he worked in the afternoon. I usually skip breakfast, but we couldn’t and it just made me ravenous the whole day.
I walked the dog several times, even in the rain to make sure that I met my steps- he did give me a reproachful look when came back😁
I got a book for IF and so far it seems like I was doing 16/8 dirty IF. I’m going to finish it and then give clean IF a 6-8 weeks trial.

@kcd394 I feel for you having an extra stressful week and being in a funk. I know exactly how you feel. You're making an excellent choice to be gentle on yourself and just try to do what you can. That TOM can be a real kicker!
@clutterqueen It does sound like we all have the Super Tired theme right now. That's why this group is extra important - to know that we're not alone. Other people are having the very same challenges. We can do it! So, my book will be on a spiritual/meditation topic. Maybe it will help in the long run as I can get back into my practice and remind myself why it had been a core of my life for so long. Left on the wayside because of the pandemic and life commitments.
@GabiV125 I'm so sorry to hear about your frequent nightmares! Maybe reading before bed will settle your mind enough so that the nightmares are reduced? Being tired is the absolute quickest way for me to fall out of good habits. It has been such a struggle to be in a sleep deprived state so much lately, and not want comfort food or "pick me up" snacks. Wishing you the best! I look forward to hearing how your IF experience is!
@thelastnightingale It seems that several of us are on that TOM right now - synchronized even over the Internet The jeans idea is a great one. Once I'm down to my target size, I may buy jeans and nothing else! Although I have zero motivation to wear jeans when we're sequestered, but yoga pants are just too to notice weight gain with (hence the start of this journey in the first place). Day 86 (Friday)
The little bit of cake did not seem to hurt because I was .3 down this morning. The problem today was that I was SO TIRED. I don't know why I'm not sleeping so well. I do remember when I worked in an office Mon-Fri that I was always extra tired on Friday because of the cumulative effect of getting up early all week. It may be happening now too, because we get up at 7am every morning to be able to start class on time. I AM sleeping in tomorrow and I have no errands to run, so I can sleep as long as I want!
I purposely ran all my errands and did a ton of chores today so that I can try to relax a little more this weekend. Friday is a half-day for the kids schooling, but it's never a half-day for Mommy. Lots of stuff to catch up on as the week ends. However, I have nothing planned for tomorrow! Unfortunately, I didn't make my steps today. chores and errands to not leave much time or energy left to finish them out today. That's okay - the rest was on point.
I did actually take some time to meditate a read right after I showered for the night. It felt like a good way to wrap up the day.

@MommaGemz I can totally relate to what you’re saying about the cumulative effect of getting up early the whole work week catching up with you on Friday! I too would try to get all my errands done during the week, and regular weekly chores as well, so as not to have to do them on the weekend. Sometimes I felt like it would backfire because I’d have no energy left for the actual weekend after all the prep for it! I’d just want to sleep! Since we moved to TN a year ago, I haven’t worked, but I still find myself trying to do all the chores and errands during the week to avoid g having to do them on the weekend.
Once again, I think it’s completely fine not to make your steps as long as you’ve logged your food and been under! It just makes it so much harder to be under! Impressive!!

Day 87 (Saturday)
Today was a total bust. It started off on such a nice heading and then just detoured into chaos. I can fully admit I threw in the towel by afternoon and ate more than I planned for dinner.
I slept in and it felt glorious! Then I decided to intentionally not "step" today because I wanted the whole house to just have a rest day. But then minor emergencies happened and just made the rest of the day so stressful. I cooked what I had planned for dinner, but added more pasta to it than a single portion size. And I didn't weigh it.
Sigh......
Oh well. It will just be important to get right back on track tomorrow. Calories, steps, water and all!2 -
@MommaGemz Yes, being able to get back on track the day after being off track is a very important skill. You’ve been able to do it so far. You’ll do it again tomorrow!

I visited my daughter in college (250miles one way) , so I drove 5h yesterday and 5h back today. Ate bad yesterday and good today, didn’t walk much, but had a great time with her and caught a good night sleep last night.
I realized we already synchronized on exhaustion, sleep deprivation, TOM, and on not quite straight eating/exercise days. What’s left? Only perfectly balanced days!

Back from a lovely weekend at the cabin. I'm quite sure I overate a little, but I didn't log anything. I think the two days of not minding my phone or logging, but instead just trying to enjoy things with more moderation than I used to hopefully was enough to show maintained or at least some weight lost over the last week. Tomorrow will tell. I also laughed that we seem to be synched via internet with TOM, tiredness etc... lol I agree the next step is a synchronized comeback with some self pampering and goal crunching with a side of proper sleep.
Gonna cook up my walleye that I caught this weekend (15-16 inch fish!), do my laundry, and get a nice shower... There's no running water at the cabin so I need one... lol
@GabiV125 that's about how much driving we did to the cabin Friday night and then back again today... at least she's that close. My mom is still back in Idaho and I moved out to Minnesota... they don't have veterinary schools in Idaho so I had to move somewhere... lol2 -
Day 88 (Sunday)
My first "double" post because I was trying to rest up. Sunday really made up for the chaos of Saturday. The only issue was that the kids woke up at 6:30am. Dang. They grumble and complain when I wake them up during the week at 7am, but when they weekend roles around... they pop out of bed so early! What's with that?
Being super tired, I knew I was going to have some challenges. I successfully avoided napping, snacking and extra caffeine. It was a win. Even though I managed to truly get some rest in, I made sure to get all of my steps in and I ate really well.

Day 89 (Monday)
Happy Labor Day! I celebrated Labor Day by.... laboring! I had a full day of work and a husband at home to watch the kids, so I took full advantage of it and got lots of stuff done. The downside is that I didn't make my step goal. That's okay though. Eating was spot on and I feel really accomplished today. Back to home schooling tomorrow.

@MommaGemz I really like how you focus on the positive of what you manage to accomplish each day and not the one thing you might not have completed! That’s so healthy but so hard to do! I sometimes find myself beating myself up for me the one thing I don’t manage to get right instead of the things I do. Then it’s easy to spiral down into the “What the heck does it matter? I can’t even do ______ right, I may as well give up!” So thanks for verbalizing the positive and letting me see a good example of this! Please continue doing that. One day I might even get it through my thick head! Sometimes I am my own worst enemy! We would never be as hard on others as we are on ourselves! Why!?!

So I definitely overdid calories tonight. Tried to mitigate that by walking a mile on the treadmill, but I'm still over. Oh well, I'll be back at it this week and hopefully the scale is nice to me tomorrow morning. Good news is I sent my mom pics and she said I was looking skinnier in them, so something is working even if I haven't noticed it myself so much. Another thing I've noticed mentally that changed for me is I started thinking "what'll it be like WHEN I wear single digit sized clothes again?" Not "I wonder IF I'll ever wear single digit sized pants again..." I can see it actually happening and wondering how long it'll be before I hit a size 8 versus it feeling so far off a goal that I'm not sure it's even gonna be feasible. Off to shower and then off to bed early. Its gonna be rough to go back to the grind tomorrow... I'm out of creamer and don't like black coffee. Lol1

Today I’m closing the door on the last 4 days of overeating AND snacking and start back once again. I’m getting better at not beating myself up for it, shockingly. Still not better at avoiding the situation, but that’s going toward bad talk, so no.
Different subject: I’m absolutely obsessed with wearing my Fitbit, so for situations when my attire would just not allow it, I took the bracelet out ( have a charge 2) and put the small device in my bra. It counts every step.

What do you love about your Fitbit and what would you change if you could? Also, which version do you have? I’ve been wearing a Polar all these years but I only track heart rate and calories when exercising. Actually, I don’t even do that too often because I know within about 15 calories what each of my workouts burn as I’ve measured them so many times. I know, I know, that means I should probably switch things up to get a little muscle confusion going but I’m pretty attached to my workouts. And my mind can wander because I already know what I’m doing. But maybe I should get a Fitbit one of these days.... so any sharing would be appreciated!2 -
Clutterqueen- I love that the Fitbit makes me feel active, when I know I’m not by any standards. I never been the athletic type and have a desk job, but love walking, so going after the 10k steps , or double, or earlier in the day, felt like challenges to me.
I had the One for years, than updated to Charge 2, and last week a friend of mine cleaned up her closet and wanted to throw away the Versa 2 she won at the Christmas party. I saved it and have been debating if I want to activate it now or later.
The Ones were failing every 6 mo, and I’ve got plenty of replacements. The Charge worked so much better, but still had to replace it in a little over a year, so probably is smarter to just wait this one out.
Another thing I like it's how easy is to get a replacement when one stops working- as long as the broken one was purchased from a recognized distributor.
I friended my sister on Fitbit and for a long while she was doing weekly step challenges with her group of nurses, so I really needed to try harder to keep up with them. Then she broke all tendons on one ankle ☹️. She’s recovered now but she’ll need to take it easy on that foot probably for the rest of her life .
Lastly, I was always a very light sleeper, but in the past years it got worse and couldn’t figure out what changed. Slept with it for a while and now I know that regardless how long overall my sleep is, if the Deep Sleep is less than 2h, the next day is a drag, I get cranky, I overeat, forget easier etc.
But truly, I loved that in the craziest of times, it felt like I had something just for me, and I had the complete control over it.

Too tired to post coherently as a friend just dragged me on a socially distanced walk and I did about 11,000 steps.
I switched from a Charge 2 to a Garmin Forerunner 45S. The HR function on both is the best feature. Garmin is better for running. Fitbit challenges are fun and it’s much much more accurate at tracking sleep. Fitbit strap can be swapped for something pretty, Garmin is just a bulky sports watch.2 -
Aaaahhhhh I can’t get out of this funk, y’all!! I am doing my daily yoga... food.... meh, can’t say I’m being too disciplined.
As much as I’m blocking it, it’s probably got to do with the fact that tomorrow marks my dad’s one year since he passed away!
I keep floating between 151 and 153!!!
Ideas on how to get over this hump!?

@NadiaMayl Be kind and patient with yourself right now. Marking the 1 year anniversary of a parent’s passing is very tough! Get through tomorrow as best you can. Honor the memory of your father in some small way.
Then the next day you can focus on your goals. Try logging your food before you eat it. Just for the first day to get back on track.

Day 90..... Day 90 Y'all !!!
Day 90 feels so uneventful, but such a major milestone. Today was total chaos in my brain. I feel so completely scattered and pulled in 100 directions. I got alot done today, but I think it was by accident. And my kids were fighting All. Day. Long. Non-stop. I also got a 5am wake-up call from my daughter because she had a nightmare.
I am so, so sorry I have been so quiet these last few days and not interacting much. I feel a bit underwater. My 3 daily goals have been acting as a life boat even though I don't manage them every day. Wishing you all well and I'm going to go back and catch up on posts right now!

@NadiaMayl Wishing you well on the anniversary your Dad passed. It's a hard time for sure. The advice I can offer to get over the hump is to limit yourself to 1-2 daily goals and hang on to them like a lifeboat until you're over the speedbump and on the way back down.
@clutterqueen I have been wearing a Fitbit for years. I still have the Charge 2. My Original Charge died after a couple of years. I really run these into the ground! I have considered getting one of the newer ones, but my needs are really simple. I just like to count steps, check my resting heart rate and track sleep, and this one still work for me. I've never used any other fitness tracker, so I can't compare. But the real reason I keep wearing this is because it's a constant reminder to keep moving. Just keep moving. And it really does get me up and away from my desk or off the couch on a regular basis.
@GabiV125 Just get back on that wagon and keep moving forward. Don't add to the stress by worrying about those few days. You can do it! I've always had trouble sleeping as well and it got worse after having kids. I love the sleep information the FitBit is able to give. Studying those stats has been very helpful and got me to rearrange my sleeping times. Now.... if only my kids would let me have some uninterrupted sleep
@kcd394 Congrats on the pics! When we, or someone else, starts noticing the change that is a huge win!! And your cabin vacation sounds so nice! Cabin in the mountains vacations are my absolute favorite - unfortunately, Texas has no mountains where we are. We've decided to take the kids to the beach for a few days to de-stress and let them have some fun. It will be in 2 weeks, during the week when school is in session, so we should have the beach to ourselves

@mammagemz minnesota doesn't really have mountains either, but being on the lake was nice. I'm from mountainous idaho so the lack of mountains is one of the things I miss from home.
@clutterqueen I've had many fitbits... the regular wrist tracker, a charge hr, charge hr 2, and a blaze. currently have a versa lite. Like that you can change the bands, love the sleep tracking feature. It's pretty good at autotracking walks and stuff, and the heart rate info is somewhat helpful. Polar monitors i think are better if you're using during workouts. Mine shows texts etc but i find i dont use those features that much. Honestly a cheaper one with a hr monitor function would be fine.
@GabiV125 I overdid it again with unexpected free lunch on a Tuesday, again... makes for 4 days of falling off the wagon. Also gonna get back to it tomorrow. We got this!
Today was brutal... we squeezed in a bunch of things and it was a busy day back... free lunch from a kind soul so I had some pizza, potato wedges, and a fried chicken drumstick. I was so busy today and left at like 645 (we clised at 5), and with the craziness of the end of the day I completely forgot I needed to stop for coffee creamer. Best to forgive myself the last week or so, get some sleep, and try again tomorrow. It's a temporary fall off the wagon, not a crumbling of my resolve... WE CAN DO THIS!3
