I had something similar happen to me when I was running the half marathon. There was a woman, younger and thinner than me that passed me about mile 11, I made it a goal to try to keep her in my sight for as long as possible. She was running faster than me, but then she started to slow down and take some walking breaks. We leap-frogged each other a few times, but every time I wanted to slow down or quit, I said to myself, "she's still running, I can too." I saw her after the race and told her how she had inspired me to keep going during the hardest part and she said, "No way, you were my inspiration. I keep stopping but every time you passed me, I pushed myself to keep going."
It's funny how much in our own heads we are - and how we see others an inspirations, yet can't even imagine how we could possibly inspire others.
I love that you now have a new outdoor gym friend.
Awwww I love that!! I think this is something I'm really learning as I get older -- that it feels good to switch from jealousy or self-criticism to simply allowing myself to be inspired by someone.7 -
@wanderlight I love your story. That is what I call super adjusting to this Pandemic. Finding your own gym and social distancing gymmates in a park setting! You are killing it.

Today I took my husband for a walk. I made him take a break from work. We went and parked by the interurban trail near us. Since I walked at the beach for an hour I felt I could do it here since this path is not graded. There are some gentle hills but those don’t bother me. Only steep hills and graded streets or paths bother my knees. I entered my food for the day so I should be able to keep my calories low enough to lose soon. I plan to exercise every weekday and make sure I get more than 150 minutes of exercise. Since I used to do at least 180 minutes of aquafit before the pandemic I want to do that as well as a minimum. For the last 2 weeks I have gotten over 200 minutes. I noticed there were some paths off the asphalt in the grass that I could use for interval running if I start doing that in future.
Since my Fitbit Versa was irritating my wrist I went retro and got a Fitbit zip. It wasn’t cheap. It came yesterday and I have been wearing it today. So now I can track at least my steps and distance walked.5 -

I've lost some weight but I still have that sweet tooth at night that I can't seem to let go of. That being said, I'm logging it and still staying within my calorie ranges for the most part. Otherwise I stuck with my previous goals pretty well.

Have you checked out the concept of a cat patio? We were considering building one at our future house before we moved, but since we have the sunroom, no need.

Good morning everyone!
I feel like I fall off the wagon more often now than when I'm not at home all the time, but yesterday was rough. My weight's up this morning.
I've been making dinners in the crock pot outside to keep the heat in the house down- yesterday was a favorite, savory monkey bread with cheese and ranch and bacon. Had it with a chicken sausage, and would have been fine with just my portion- only I ate what the baby and my kid didn't, because it's delicious.
No more of that stuff for a while! At least until I get back to high cardio days.

I'm not sure this week's loss is correct. Based on my spreadsheet (tracking deficit & exercise calories), I should have lost 1.8 pounds. This month I've been losing more than projected. Not so much more that I was really concerned until this week. Maybe my bike rides are burning more calories than I think but this much more doesn't make sense. I'll see what happens next week before I make any adjustments. Who knows, today's weight may be a fluke and tomorrow I'll be up 3 pounds!
The weather here has been a bit nicer...low to mid 80s instead of the 90s. I like that much better for biking and hiking! They're predicting that pattern to hold for the next week. I hope they're right, especially since the lows are in the 60s. Much better for sleeping!

Good morning! A mid-week update:
Weight:
My scale weight had been bouncing around the same 1-2 lbs (202 +/- 1). On the one hand I'm not surprised - coming off a two week diet break, a high sodium/high carb take-out meal, some extra exercise, plus I think this heat is making me retain water like crazy. On the other hand, I'm starting to get a little annoyed.
Today it was finally down to 200.2, so I'm getting closer! I usually don't think too much about scale weight, as long as it is trending down, but I'm getting really impatient to get under 200. I didn't realize how big of a goal that would be for me mentally. It has been...a long time.
Exercise:
I've been having to adapt my exercise routines lately due to some heel pain. I had started running again (and loving it). I finished C25K, and started on the C210K next - I think the program built up too quickly, and I just overdid it. I haven't gone in over a month now. I've been trying to bike and do regularly yoga instead. My heel has been slowly getting better - no pain at all the last 2 days. Speaking of yoga...for the first time, I successfully did crow pose and held it for two whole seconds (even made my husband get a photo for proof, lol)!
Husband and I went for a great evening bike ride last night on the river trails near us - 13.5 miles out to a local lake and back. The evening weather was perfect, we saw dozens of deer (lots of little fawns), and had a gorgeous sunset complete with a rainbow.
Food:
We had some great tuna and swordfish on Sunday, and Monday I made some spiced lamb meatballs with pita. The pitas didn't puff up, so instead of stuffing them, they accompanied an arugula salad with onion, radish, and topped with meatballs and a garlic-mint-yogurt sauce. Looking forward to having the last of them for lunch today. No idea what to cook tonight though. I might pull some frozen smoked pork out of the freezer for tacos.
Re: comments above about a catio/cat patio - We bought a mesh cat tent from Amazon. We have to put them in it and take them out of course, but it lets them be outside with us and they LOVE it.

Well, after another pizza party with the kids last week and a junk-filled riverside picnic, today's weigh-in was an eye-opener about the need to be vigilant. This is the first time my body measurements haven't gone down. I can also see the difference in my progress photos.
I'm determined to not get down on myself, though: my son only visits once a year for 2 weeks, so this is a special case. I've already gotten back on the wagon this week and am going strong with nutrition!
I'm also figuring out that I don't have to restrict myself to vegan or vegetarian eating: as long as I have a wide and varied diet, I can be healthy. Having to be grain-free and fruit-free is enough of a restriction, and I was starting to get bored of just beans and tofu and veggies.

My July Goals are:
1. Continue to get enough sleep and water intake.
2. Continue to log weight, food and exercise and stay under calorie goal
5. Continue to make healthy meals at home.
3. Get some exercise 5-6 days a week and up NEAT. Try to exceed 150 min. of exercise/week. I got lots of exercise at the beach but not during the weekend. So far this week I am getting exercise every day and plan to keep this up. Now that I have my Zip I will see what steps I am getting and then set a goal each week to up it.
4. Get into the 240s and lose an average of a pound a week at least . I am on a downward trend this week.I do not know why a lb a week is so hard to achieve.
What I really wanted to achieve this month was to be well into the 240s so that with my usual weight variations I stay out of the 250s. I do not feel I have achieved this. I need to be at least 248 or 247 to keep my weight variations in the 240s. I could lose more by the end of the month but I doubt it will be that much. What I feel good about is I have a calorie goal and exercise plan that seems to be helping me lose if I can avoid those higher calorie days. For this reason I think we will decide not to take the cabin we had reserved for our annual family camping trip. We would have to share public bathrooms and I do not think that is safe. Frankly I would rather stay home and make things nicer here. Like finding good walks like we did yesterday, de-cluttering and make healthy yummy meals like I am doing.
Yesterday I heard the story of a local public radio host who was staying home, having groceries delivered and only met with only one person in her back yard with social distancing. She got COVID 19 and it was really bad even though she wasn't hospitalized. She was miserable for weeks on end and felt that she was fighting for her life for weeks and weeks. She felt like she couldn't breath not to mention all the other symptoms (high fever, nausea body aches etc). She is finally working from home but she didn't sound like herself.
I have to pick up my stuff at the office tomorrow. After that I plan to stay really safe. The Governor is starting to limit certain things for some of the phases but I feel there should only be take out not dine in. I went to an open air mall here to drop off an Amazon return. You couldn't tell that there was a highly contagious airborne Pandemic happening. Yes, people were wearing masks and keeping distance except as they passed by each other on the sidewalks. I am glad my youngest is graduating this summer. Since she is in computer science and software engineering, if she finds a job she will probably be able to work from home. I will look for a job but it will have to be from home with a fair wage. I am doing fine now on unemployment and if I have to I can retire and work part-time. I am going to work on setting up my art room so I can paint again.
In the process I will be thinking about my August goals. I think they will be more global than they were for this month as in they will probably include decluttering. I have been working on paying off debts as well and have made a lot of progress even being on furlough.6 -
So, remember last month when I said I couldn't imagine being a size 10? Well, I ordered a pair of size 10 jeans (to have something to shoot for eventually) but they fit right now! Truth be told, they are Old Navy Boyfriend jeans, so very forgiving in the hips where I am my widest, but still... size 10!!
@KeriA - I too heard that story on NPR. Really scary. A dear friend of mine caught it along with her husband. She said it the most horrible experience she had ever had. She thought she was going to die. She never had to be hospitalized, but she was sick for months, kept relapsing, and at times, felt like she was drowning every time she laid down. Everybody stay safe out there. This is not something you want to take your chances on.9 -

IT FINALLY HAPPENED

It has been about a month of hovering in the low 200s, but it seems the woosh is finally here.
Next mini goal is 197 (60 lbs lost). Then back to my every 10 lb goals, I guess. I never really thought I would get this far. Next bigger goal will be around 170, moving from obese to overweight, which suddenly seems so much more achievable.
At first, at 230-240 lbs, I felt i was just getting back down to recent weights that I remembered, reclaiming lost ground I guess. Reaching the 220s felt a little more successful, as it had been a few years, and the 210s and 200s even more so. But now this is a number I haven't seen in over a decade. From here on out, every weight seems new and exciting, and also terrifyingly precarious. Onward and downward.13 -
Have been on a mini vacation. Went to a friend's cottage on Crystal Lake ... had a wonderful time!! Hot sunny days which made being on the lake wonderful; and cool nights good for bonfires and sleeping!! I really needed this get away. I knew being in lockdown since early March was getting to me ... this was just the break I needed.
JULY GOALS ---

Love our Farmer's Market!! Yesterday picked up cucumbers, tomatoes, peaches & creme corn on the cob YUM!!, huge head of cauliflower, 1 each fresh caught Lake Perch & Lake Trout, 6 duck eggs, yellow & green beans, and snow pea pods. I also picked up a bouquet of mixed flowers and a dozen glads in purple, yellow, and pink. They are lovely! The food stalls are easily 8 ft apart, everyone wears a mask and are very conscious of social distancing, and only the vendors are allowed to touch the produce. Each stall is set up with a hand sanitizer station for customers and vendors. And, the vendors use it between handling each order. We have a semi-pro ball team and after our flood, the Market changed it's location to the parking lot of the ball diamond which allows for the distancing of the food stalls. Because it's so large, it's also a great way to fit in some outside exercise ... even though it's more of a stroll.

The last two weeks have been a struggle for me. I had a girl's night in with some friends and we ordered lots of unhealthy food. This sort of opened the floodgates of bad food choices and I'm ending the month two pounds heavier than when I started. I'm planning to restart my healthy eating habits in August. Today the big task was going into the office and picking up my stuff. It was nice to see my boss and others that were there. It was hard to see others taking over my work. She had a few questions about projects that I answered quickly since I had left things in order. One question was due to the planner taking over not knowing how the work I did is done. I was glad to get it over with but after I got home and put most of it away I got a bit pensive. I didn’t sleep as well last night and got up earlier so I took some down time and a nap.
So far no exercise but then it is hot and it will cool down tonight so we might go then. I stopped by on the way home and got some yarn for some crochet projects I have in mind.
The new restriction here is that only those who live together can dine inside together at a restaurant. Groups with others you don’t live with must be outside dining. There is a limit on the size of the group. The Governor is trying to make adjustments without us having to going back to Phase 1, sheltering at home. They know the uptick has to do mostly with people getting together inside without masks and adequate distance. I am not going to eat in restaurants until things are much safer or we have a good vaccine. We are doing limited take out only.

Today makes 200 days back on MFP. In that time, I've lost 23.4 pounds and kept it off through a pandemic. That's a loss of 0.8 lb/week on average, which is great.
Considering I've been noncompliant and haven't been exercising as much, this week's weigh in is not surprising. Still, net loss for the month, so I'll take it. If weight loss has to be much slower in order for me to be happy enough not to reverse my progress or make myself and everyone miserable, so be it. Also, I know I'll be seeing a lower number after a good night's sleep, it's just whether or not that number sticks around.
Speaking of, today's pizza day, and I need to make room in the calories for a pina colada, too.

@KeriA I love hearing about your walks. They all sound wonderful. Also, about your art room. Given all the scariness about the pandemic, we haven't been anywhere, either. My extended family had a reunion recently (!!!!) with some of them flying in from hot zones (!!!!!!!!!!). We didn't go, of course. But man.

@MuttiNM weight lows are always correct, it's the highs that might not be. Lows, if unexpected, just mean you don't have a lot of water on board, so you can really see your progress.

Well, I guess I met my July goal weight. @CupcakeCrusoe I guess you're right. I should believe the low weights. However, I lost a bit faster than I really wanted or planned to. I'll monitor this for 2 or 3 more weeks. Maybe my bike rides and other exercise are burning more calories than I think or maybe I had some excess water that decided to leave all of a sudden. It seems weird to be concerned about losing too fast but I really do want to do this in a healthy and sustainable way.

I have done really well with my workout goals and focused on getting stronger and building a habit of consistent exercise. I managed to work out almost every other day, and really pushed myself during those workouts.
I also logged every day and at the halfway mark of the month I started intermittent fasting and I love it. I find it very easy to only eat between 12 - 8pm. I'll continue this into August as well.

Very pleased with how I did this month. I jumped up in weight mid week because hot weather makes me retain water, but I landed right back where I was 2 weeks ago.
I've finished my learn to row class and joined the rowing club. I can sign up for rowing 3xs a week. Between rowing and running, I'll be getting plenty of exercise. They are great cross training for each other too.
I want to give a shout out to @Pamiede for walking a mile today. And you lost weight, despite being in recovery from surgery. You are amazing. I'm so impressed.
And @MuttiNM - Wow! An incredible rate of loss for you. It is unusual to drop so much in one week (especially when you'll already lost over 100 pounds). But I would guess that the big drop is a reflection of fat loss that might have happened weeks before and was just hid by water weight.

I always think of July as a birthday month, and maybe some of my behavior reflected it. I think I’ve been doing too much guessing without much accountability. I need to reclaim some control over this process and I think that’s the main thing to work on for August. I’ve been making excuses because of the pandemic and whatever else is happening. It’s time to start kicking butt, meeting my first tentative goal, and hopefully lose the last 20 – 30 pounds I’ve got on me.

July GW: under 160 lbs – I don’t know what to say about this. I was under 160 for a good three days then started to creep up again. I have been drinking a lot of extra water. On Wednesday I think I lost track and drank close to 200 ounces. I’m not real worried, since I run or work out and I’m soaked at the end of those workouts. And I believe I probably take in quite enough sodium! Overall registering a loss, which I did not think would be the case after I weighed this morning. I’ll take it, I’ve been on this merry-go-round for long enough to know any loss is a win.
GW: 150 lbs – I’m hoping to get to it by the end of September. I think that’s a stretch, only doable if the reason I’m up today is water retention.
Goals for July:- Running: I’ll end up running 3 days this week. Finally bought a hand-held water bottle. I ran yesterday in the middle of the day and carried it. It will take some getting used to, but it’s not as bad as I thought it would be. It was 90 degrees during this run! I hate running midday in the summer, but I did it so I could stay on track for AM workouts. It’s a long story why I could not get early workouts in this week, but I can say this: it stinks having to roll out of bed at 5 AM to do work.
- Cross training: I cross-trained on the bike three days this week.
- Weight training: I did planks yesterday! 6 sets of 30 seconds with 20 seconds of rest between. Not too bad for the first time in about 4 months. I also did a set of 10 squats today. 10 slow, good form squats. Gotta start somewhere.
- Water: Keep drinking water, at least 128 ounces a day – definitely got it. Actually, had to slow myself down.
- Skin: From bad to worse. I’ve got to figure it out.
I probably won’t post anything tomorrow since my regular weigh-in day is Sunday. I’ll see everyone over in the August thread.
