Rita - Loving the horny thing!
Our TV went on the blink this morning. Just when I thought I was having a wonderful day as I have lost that pesky water weight that had been clinging on. Now back to my lowest covid weight.
It's something to do with the aerial. Blast it! All 3 tvs are affected. The man said he would come this afternoon, but he hasn't arrived yet. We are too mean to pay for cable, but I don't know what he will charge us. I do have my tablet to watch my favourite shows.
DH had to stay in and he wasn't pleased, as I was off to 14th July celebration with my French Circle in a park about 45 mins walk away. Enjoyed it. We had a taste of Cremant de Loire and talked in French. My first real outing!
I bought DH a nutmeg custard tart from his favourite shop on the way home to placate him. Then he went out for a walk and food shopping.
TV man still hasn't arrived at 5.30 pm.
We are also expecting the floor sanding man for an estimate.
Here I am at the meet up. Most people are out of sight to the right. We had about 16 in all.
I'm tired from 90 mins quick march, but it was a good afternoon, even if my French was a bit out of practice!

Flea: I didn’t know that Grant Imahara had passed away. I enjoyed the MythBuster shows, his ingenuity and positive attitude. I am saddened by his loss.

Heather,
Is satellite TV available in your area? We have had great service. It comes with a monthly fee for the equipment. We have rarely had any interruptions of service. If power is out, TV is also out.2 -
Katla - Our TV is free from our aerial. We only pay a yearly license fee. I'm too mean to pay a monthly fee. We don't have any subscriber packages. I have a recorder for the things that we don't want to miss. I'm always amazed at how much you pay for TV in the US. Ours is nearly free. Unless the aerial is down. Some people have cable, but we don't want it. I'm not supporting the horrible man who used to own it. We don't use any entrepreneur services. Just pay the BBC license fee once a year.
The aerial man did not come. Grrrr.
The sanding man did come and was a charming young man. Same name as my son. He is going to send us an estimate. We may get the dining area done at the same time.
Now trying to get an estimate for the painting of the living room. Got to decide on colours and whether to paint the original doors and fireplace. Help! I can't make decisions. Still haven't talked about how to divide the paying for it.

Heather, Most TV programs in our area originate in Portland. The distance is about 24 miles with significant hills between here and there. Regular antannae do not get very good signal. Many subscribe to cable or satellite tv.2

Phew! Turns out it was a Freeview problem with people taking to social media and the local paper to complain. Mainly affecting Brighton but also East Sussex. It is back on now. I wonder what the problem was, but it certainly caused an uproar!!!! Glad it wasn't us. It's back on now. Love my telly!!!!! Xxx

Yes my Athena is such a cutie, I so wished we lived closer. When we get done living here, I wouldn't mind sharing a rental home with middle son, being able to watch Athena, or be the one's to pick her up after school etc. My mother inlaw lives in the downstairs of a huge home her granddaughter's. There is a small kitchen down there, just right for her. The granddaughter and husband has dogs, cats, and so there is a gate that blocks them from going downstairs. That would work for us! I would love for them to have a home! Something nice to ponder right now though.💖
Today I bought some sweet mochi cakes. They have a sweet rice paste outside with powdered sugar. The inside is a bean paste with fruit flavor. Yum!

Rebecca ~ I think we have all loved watching Athena grow from a baby to a walking toddler. Thank you so much for sharing her life with us.

Rebecca, Michele, Katla, KJ and all those others missing their grandchildren. I soooooo hope you get to see them soon. My heart aches for mine and they are 30 mins walk away. They might as well be 300 miles!
We are scheduled to see them on Thursday after school at a social distance outside. Longing to touch them. But can't.

Happy Pandemonium Day!
Did you miss me? Today's holiday seems timely: "There is chaos and disorder everywhere, and you can't control it. Crazy, unorganized, and unexpected things are happening, and they all seem to be happening at the same time. ... It's a day to embrace and even celebrate the pandemonium that often seems to surround us. It is a day for looking at this pandemonium in a new way. As it can come along at any time, it is a day to accept that it exists. The word 'pandemonium' first appeared in 1667, in John Milton's Paradise Lost. It was spelled as 'Pandaemonium' and was the name for the capital of Hell. The word comes from two Greek words: 'pan,' which means 'all,' and 'daimonion,' which means 'inferior gods.'"
Sara - I've had a ton of foster greyhounds and they've pretty much all been couch potatoes too. They're up for a nice sprint and then it's inside to the sofa.
Rebecca - That is one cute baby!
Katla et al - My sweet Philip is getting deafer all the time. I wish he'd go get checked out and do something about it, but between male pride and a tight budget I doubt it's going to happen anytime soon. It's a bit frustrating.
Machka - Congratulations on regaining your sense of smell! Aroma is so tied into the limbic system, I can't imagine what it must be like not to be able to sense it.
Karen - I think the best comedians are the ones who can laugh at people's foibles while still being kind. Jimmy Fallon is like that, and Robin Williams was too. I don't find mean humor very funny.
Flea - I can hardly believe Grant Imahara is gone. To me he is still that baby-faced intern on Mythbusters. So tragic to lose him so young.
As for me, Philip and I are doing OK. I've been lucky to have work to keep me busy but Philip's profession as a massage therapist has been severely impacted by COVID-19. Back when he made the career change out of software testing we thought massage would be less profitable but more secure since his job couldn't be outsourced... little did we know what was in store for us all! He's working part-time right now but at this point we're not sure what will happen in the long term.
You've probably heard that Texas has become a poster child for how not to handle a pandemic, so we've been isolating for months now. That means no gym, and now that we're into triple-digit temperatures exercising outside has lost its appeal. As a result, I've gained back some of my weight and am going to have to put my nose to the grindstone again.
We've been keeping up with friends through Zoom meetings, virtual happy hours, and the occasional socially-distance backyard meetup with others who are conscientious about isolating. Not too long ago we rented a campsite through an app called Hipcamp, which is made up of private property owners who rent out parts of their land for camping. Some are primitive camping, some have electricity and water available, and some have full RV hookups. Since most owners only have one or two campsites, it's a great way to get out and still maintain a safe distance from other people. We took our RV out a couple of weeks ago to camp with another couple at a working ranch that had two RV spots. It was definitely good to see something besides the inside of our house! We still go down to my dad's river house about once a month too. We have projects in the works there but for the time being my siblings and I have to take turns instead of all being there at once for work weekends.
It was so good to skip back a few pages and catch up with you all a bit!
Take care,
-Yvonne in TX7 -

Oh Athena wants something, and I would most likely just give it to her! Cake for breakfast? Sure thing!😁

I've just made some sprouted beans in the IP. They are now in the freezer waiting for a nice piece of fish to go under.
They are moth beans. I'm sure that is not how they are pronounced. The ones I got from Amazon come from Samarkand.
The method for sprouting and the recipe is from Ivatra Pitri, or twosleevers, as she is known in IP circles. I have her Indian Cookery book.
In the actual recipe they are cooked with all the usual onion, spices etc, but also desiccated coconut. We love it. One cup of dry beans makes enough sprouted beans for six portions I think. I've frozen them in 3 batches.

well Tom just called and I will drop Homer off at vet tomorrow am , he most likely will have the rest of his teeth taken out ,I knew it was something in his mouth.. poor lil guy... will be soft food for him4 -
Heather: Thanks for your good wishes. We make facetime calls or zoom calls to our adult children & grandchildren when we can.
Allie: How old is Homer? I hope the tooth extractions are helpful and he is more comfortable. :flowerforyou:
Rebecca: Athena is a cutie pie. I love seeing her photos.
Our daughter’s old dog passed away yesterday. He was a huge Goldendoodle, and a great dog with the grandchildren. He was about the same age as our dog. I’m sad for them and counting my blessings. Our little guy is doing okay for now.

Heather: Schools closed early here. I don’t know when the fall term will begin. It all depends on the Covid virus and keeping the children safe.
Yvonne in TX: Great to see you post!!! Good luck with Phillip getting his hearing checked. My DH wore hearing aids for several years, but eventually they stopped helping. He tried others and chose not to buy new ones. He is doing surprisingly well without them now. I stay out of his decision process and that works better for both of us.
As for the gym, it is open but DH doesn’t want me to go there because of virus worries, so I don’t get to enjoy yoga for the time being. He does feel good about me getting out to the stable and riding Arrow. YAY!!! I had a lovely ride Sunday and am still “riding high” because I finally managed to canter. The old childhood trauma is done.

Visitors in Hospitals - here in Alberta it is two visitors as of middle of June, but like Machka said the visitors have to be designated beforehand.
Barbara - I really don’t like practical jokes either. I think most of them are just cruel.
The dynamics here are very hard to figure. Our home is a not for profit that was established by the Baptist church. We have a board of directors that oversee all financial aspects but their contract with the Administrator that they hired states they will have no say over the operations or staffing. So our Administrator (my boss) is as high as it goes. Some of us at work are trying to figure it out how or who to go to. The HR lady reports directly to the Administrator and tells her everything.
Rita - I hope you got to go skinny dipping today. I’ve never been, but now that I know how to swim maybe I should add that to my bucket list. I’ll run it past hubby. Then we would need to find a place, I’m sure the rec centre would frown on it.
Heather - here in Canada there is no analog distribution of tv anymore. You either need cable or satellite. I grew up on with antennas or rabbit ears. Precious memories.
Rebecca - I agree cake for breakfast, cookies for lunch. Who could resist that face?
I am officially on holidays until next Wednesday. Tomorrow we are going to be with our youngest daughter and her husband as they get the keys to their first home. They have graciously invited us and we will have a pizza party in their backyard.
Thursday we are having the trailer levelled and Friday we are leaving to go camping. I’m very excited!

TV .... down here in Tasmania and also where we lived in Victoria (Aussie State) we get free antenna TV. For the first several years I lived here we had 3 or 4 channels. Now we've got about 20 but they are often so closely related they play the same things.
So the TV doesn't usually come on until about 6 pm and is off somewhere between 10 and 11 pm ... unless the choices dry up before that in which case it might be off by 8:30 pm.
Oh also shows tend to start roughly on the half hour and will go as long as needed to finish.
Last night for example Poirot started at 8:40 because New Tricks before it goes a little long and finished about 10:50.
