Sara – I hear ya about wanting to eat at night. I’m the exact same way. How about some applesauce frozen? Or maybe a box of raisins? Popcorn is pretty filling. One thing I have that is pretty filling and makes me want to drink (as the popcorn does) is a turkey breast burger.

Thank you. Love popcorn - sweet popcorn! So thats a no.
Tonight I had an omlette, seemed about the best I could do

Only problem is...I don't have cabbages...lol
Two years ago I was attacked by some and got stung. I never again want that to happen...it hurt so much. To me, the only good wasp is a dead wasp.

Michele - I'm not exactly sure what type of trap you are trying to bait. I know we have "bald faced hornets" around here - they make big round paper nests in trees, and they absolutely love to after the ripe grapes on our grape vine. They are meaner than snot so I pick grapes early in the morning before the little buggers wake up.
So maybe something like white grape juice? Grape jelly?
Also, I've heard some hornets (Yellow jackets in my area) go after meat - some folks bait traps with raw hamburger.
We leave them in peace unless they build their nests under the deck (where they can fly up and sting the pups) or in the porch light beside the back door. Then it's Raid time.
The wonderful world of stinging insects!

It has been a lovely day here. We picked blueberries this evening and cut the net off of two blueberry bushes. My beans still have the net on them that I put there to protect bean leaves from deer. We haven’t seen deer lately & I will probably take the net off soon.3

Another question which came up on FB ...
What is, or might have been, your dream career?
If training education and conditions weren't an issue, what would you do or would you have done for a living?
For me, being independently wealthy would be my first choice. But then I had to think for a while. At one time I wanted to be a teacher with a backup job as architectural draftsperson. I have the qualifications for those things but they no longer interest me ... especially the teaching.
Right now, I'm sort of torn between three...
1) Working in Records Management which I'm well qualified for
2) Technical Writing
3) Doing travel writing/photography
Meanwhile ...
I'm trying to think of ways to make returning to the office in my current job more tolerable. I have to go back on July 28 unless we get a sudden, unexpected surge of people with C19. Given that we've had none for something like 65 days, that's not likely going to happen.
So ...
1) I need to look at my commute and workday in general and see if I can make it shorter. I really don't want to leave home at 8:30 and not return until 6 pm anymore if I can help it. 9.5 hours away from home each day is too long.
2) I'd love to go to a 4-day week. I would even be willing to put in an extra hour or so a day in the 4 days I work to get a 4-day week. Because of my university I don't have too much flexibility with this, but because of my university I will be at home in the mornings on Thursdays "attending" an online class. That might help a bit.
3) I'd like to get more exercise. That's been one of the best things about the shut down and working from home. I've been able to go out for walks, runs, and bicycle rides whenever I wanted. And I haven't gained a gram during the whole shutdown.
4) I have really enjoyed listening to ABC Classic FM on the radio each day while I've been working from home and I have figured out how to get it on my phone. So that's good.

Machka, I really enjoy the recovery from surgery item your mother sent you! And Amazon delivery frequently insists they have entered the Vendor’s code at the gate. When I try to talk them through it - “Yes, that’s what I did!” before the first few words have left my mouth. When I finally get them to listen and they enter it slower, more carefully - Hey! Prestó! It works!
Btw, I hope you came up with a dinner choice that worked for you. Would a smoothie be easy on your tender places?
Karen, it was indeed a fitting finale to 2020’s tax season for me. What amuses me is, I’ve already set a few dozen appointments for the 2021 season. I can’t figure out whether that qualifies me for masochism or not!
Oh Rita! If ever anyone comes along to use that for, I’ll keep it in mind. Those flower photos are spectacular! My friends say that when the desert blooms it’s gorgeous. I gather this is not the same as the spring bloom after some rain?
DellaFayeFox, thats a great shot of the Peter Iredale as it was when I recall it. Last time I was there there was not as much of it left.
Amber, good luck keeping up with your boy’s growth spurts! They sound more like eruptions!
Sara628588! If “shreddies” means shredded wheat, that’s a good source of fiber and will keep you full quite well. Bran flakes or even Raisin Bran is another goodie. Yogurt works well for me because of the protein, or egg salad or tuna salad made with sugar free mayo. I use some finely minced baby dill pickle and much less relish than I used to. It’s tart and sweet and satisfying that way to me!
Hi, Deborah! Hi, Debbie, also! Havent seen you before. I’m Sharon, near Seattle, but used to live in LA, Bay and Salinas down there! Glad to see you joining us, Deborah! We’ll have to use Deborah and Debbie, I guess. I’m 20 years older than you two, but Debby was one of the most popular names in my graduating class of 1961.
Terri, thanks for checking in. We’ve missed hearing from you and a number of others now that things are getting busier.
Michelle in NC, Some wasps aren’t attracted to sweet things. They’re attracted to protein. Try hanging one up with some pepperoni or sausage. Something greasy. Raw Hamburger or bacon grease might work.

Hello one and all.
Glory be – yesterday I slept until 6:45 am. For me that is the equivalent of sleeping until noon!! I awakening to a dreary, rainy, thunderstorm filled day. By noon I was ready for a nap. I listened to my body and had a lazy day.
My plan for today, if I do not talk myself out of it, is to move all of my bedroom furniture away from the walls, patch and sand all holes in the wall, remove all of the outlet covers, and fully prep my bedroom for painting. I have Monday through Wednesday off. If I get the room painted tomorrow I can move everything back on Tuesday and Wednesday can be a day of rest. Even though I am off I will have to check emails and have a mandatory all-hands-on meeting late Wednesday afternoon.
Electrical Update – The technician never showed up on Thursday and then again on Friday. I will call tomorrow and see what is up. The owner did state they were pretty booked and I did tell him on the phone it’s not a rush, but one would have expected at least a phone call. I am being forgiving this one time. Let’s see what happens next week.
Barbie – So sorry about the cracked jar. When I use glass I usually loosely put plastic wrap (or a larger lid) on top of the container until it is fully frozen. Once frozen I put on the permanent lid. I have a tendency to overfill things and do not always account for expansion.
Katla – I have been wearing masks since March. I have a wide selection, including some disposables in the car for those times I may forget to grab one prior to leaving the house or accidently touch the one I am wearing without sanitizing my hands first. Thank you for the concern. It seems Florida is in it for the long haul and without State mandates we will probably be fighting this until the end of this year. Our townhomes are individual units running independently from each other. The only shared items are the building itself and the common grounds.
Rita – Quite a few years ago I went through a libido challenge and spoke with my doctor. I did not want to take hormones for many reasons. I used the topical testosterone cream (organic, actually made from wild yam root as I did not want to use lab produced hormones). It worked wonders. After a few months I did not need to use it anymore.
Carol – Big congratulations to DIL!
Sharon – Oh, no! So sorry you had to sleep in the car…..what an ending to tax season even though it really is not over.
Barbara – Those look like succulents. Isn’t nature amazing? Plants growing where there is little to no soil. The cactus mix should work perfectly. Most succulents, like cacti, do not like too much moisture and good drainage. I have a small collection of succulents and one that looks almost like yours. Babies will eventually sprout around the base. One can leave them on the parent or just pull off and plant. New plants will also start from a leaf, takes a little longer than just waiting for a baby.
Lisa – Love the picture of Egg. She has great communication skills. Mom, you must pay me some attention prior to whatever it is you want to do……… I also love when people do not listen when one states Google maps will not get you here. As developed as my area may be Google maps will get one to the general vicinity but not my home. Love the results of your salsa/pickling day.
Amber – It sounds like both Texas and Florida are in it for the long haul.
Sara – It sounds like your body is craving protein. I always have boiled eggs ready for those times when I need something quick and/or body is calling out for it.
Pip – I am sure whatever you decide you will look fine. I am partial to short hair because it is so much easier to keep up with it and I never have to worry about my hair. With your level of activity it’s my thought short hair would be best. I love my short hair and the thought of growing it……..eeek!
Heather – I think you will enjoy Three Billboards. It is a bit dark so one must be in the correct frame of mind to watch it.
KJ – Oh, I hope you’re feeling better.
Welcome JazzyJewel, Faye, Deborah, Debbie, Rojeli6332, dellafoxfaye, and any others I may have missed.
Well, time waits for no one. Let’s see if I can find a way to not talk myself out of my project! LOL…….

This coming week:
Monday:
I get my splints out! I hope that will ease the pain. I think they're digging in. There are times the inside of my nose feels like it is being stabbed with a fork.
Thursday:
My last course starts with an online workshop. I'm glad to have only one course this semester. Taking two last semester was very challenging.
I'm also hoping to increase my exercise and I've got a personal project I'm working on.

Hi all
Again this morning trying to get my eyes to track right. Eye doc says just a floater problem that is easier to see now with secondary cataracts laser removed and laser for glaucoma. So I have to close one eye to read this and it makes things strange. I could get a patch and that would relieve the squinting pressure, but I was never into that pirate thing and being called a wench.
I see there is another Faye which is what I have gone by forever. As a child, Faetta didn't seem cool so I shortened it to Fae but watching people struggle to pronounce it as Fay and since there was another Fay in the family, I settled on Fay with an e. Della is actually short for a long French name and not my favorite. My folks always called me Della Faye which fit with their country roots. Something parents love about that double name especially when one steps out of line. I am well known for falling out of step with the crowd.
SuzieQ Thanks for the welcome and I am trying to catch up and get the flow of this thread, I feel comfortable here nearing age 70.
I love short hair on most of us older ladies, but occasionally I see a long-haired gray-headed lady of age that is just stunning. I have had mine short since my mid 30's. I worked outdoors most of my adult life and on construction jobs and long hair was a pain so one hot sunny day I took matters in my own hands and chopped it off at bottom of ear level. After washing it, I discovered my curly hair got tighter curls and I soon looked like a bushy headed hippie chick.
I will post some of my self haircut photos over the last few months, my SARS2/Covid 2020 collection just for giggles. It features the Wuhan which is a favorite among my fake nieces and grandnieces. I don't like it at all. My hairdresser retired and moved away, my bestie refuses to cut hair, I scare small children with long hair, all the saloons were closed, so what was I to do?

Hi all!
I finished the first level of Duolingo Norwegian this morning with a with a 238 day streak. As we are not going on a cruise for some time I have decided to have yet another try at German. I first learned a bit from my best friend Shirley when I was 7+ and that has stuck with me. Since then I have had a few more tries, but never really grasped it.
When I went back to the Duolingo site I found I had completed it all to the second level, so I'm going through it once more. I was happy to find that some of it appears to have sunk in and it no longer feels as daunting. I put in a good session this morning.
I find Germany comes up quite a lot in my life. The culture, the history, the philosophy. I have been watching a tv series about the rise of the Nazis, something that is still a bit of a puzzle. Plus there is a lot more material available online. So far, I'm enjoying myself.
I used to be able to talk a bit with my friend Ros, who was fluent.
I'm envious of the family today who are making their first expedition to Fatto a Mano since the lockdown. They have booked for late lunch. We are not feeling comfortable going yet. I'm hoping for photos. I miss it more than almost anything. Love that place and love going there with the grandchildren.

Rebecca: You aren’t alone in disliking housecleaning. We’ve had cleaners for many years, but our most recent one declined to wear a mask in our house. We said our farewells. Now I have to do the cleaning. :grumble:
KJ: I hope you’re feeling better.
Michele: Pineapple juice smells sweet.
Machka: I was a teacher, grades 1-8. I started out in elementary schools and wound up at a middle school teaching eighth grade social studies during a cutback. I taught US History from prehistory through the Viet Nam War. Truthfully, we didn't get as far as the Viet Nam war because we ran out of time in the school year. It took a while, but I eventually came to love teaching eighth graders. I worked with a team of teachers who all shared the same students. We were able to help one another solve behavior problems and that lead to much more pleasant classes.
SuziQ: One of my neighbors has made masks for us. I have three. The one I seem to use most resides in the house and two others are located in each car so that I’ve got one with me whenever I go out into the world. I thanked her with gift cards to her favorite fabric store and Starbucks. DH also has one of her masks. Like you, he keeps a disposable on hand. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that you get the electrician to your place soon. We also live in a townhouse. In our development there are 5 duplexes that share a common wall with one another, and four connected row houses. I never imagined living anywhere other than a single-family dwelling, but I have enjoyed living here.
Heather: I took German in high school and college. I am NOT proficient. My grandmother’s family emigrated to the US between 1899 & 1903. They had family in Kansas who sponsored them. There aren’t many occasions to use German in our part of the world. To you I will say, Guten tag! Wie gehts?
I have a riding lesson this afternoon. I am looking forward to spending time with Arrow, the friend who owns him, and my teacher.

So one of the things I love to do when I have time (not that often) and patience is to create recipes, usually I start from one that is ok but in my mind not great and then I change it, make it; change it make it until I am happy with it. This is my newest creation. A pizza crust of Zucchini - it is gluten free, and lower in carbs than a traditional wheat crust. Not a true diet food, but I have enjoyed it, moderation of course!
Zucchini Pizza Crust
Makes 3-5 servings
At 4 servings the crust (NO TOPPING) has approximately 250 calories per serving
This recipe requires 8+ hour of prep time, most of that time is not active.
INGREDIENTS
4 cups grated zucchini
1 large egg
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 tsp. dried oregano
½ tsp. dried basil (or 1 tsp. fresh basil minced)
3 c. shredded mozzarella, divided
1/2 c. grated Parmesan
1/4 c. cornstarch
kosher salt
Freshly ground black pepper
1/4 c. pizza sauce
1/4 c. pepperoni*
Pinch red pepper flakes, for garnish
Basil, for garnish
DIRECTIONS
On a box grater or in a food processor, grate zucchini. Using cheesecloth or a dish towel, wring excess moisture out of zucchini. Then Freeze 6-8 hours or longer, defrost and wring out all moisture a second time. It is critical to have the zucchini as dry as possible.
Transfer zucchini to a large bowl with egg, garlic, oregano, 1 cup mozzarella, Parmesan, and cornstarch and season with salt and pepper. Stir until completely combined.
Preheat oven to 425º and line a baking sheet with parchment.
Transfer “dough” to prepared baking sheet and pat into a crust. Keep the edges from being really thin the crust should be about ¼ inch deep across the entire surface. Bake until golden and dried out, 25 minutes.
Spread pizza sauce over crust then top with remaining mozzarella and pepperoni*. Bake until cheese is melted and crust is crispy, about 10 minutes more. Garnish with red pepper flakes and basil.
*This topping can be changed out for any other topping, however it should be a dry topping, so I have used mushrooms that are cooked until caramelized first.
smiles Kim in N. California6
