Wow- I take a few days off for a short vacation and come back to find we have an awesome theme song! Great work @mainelylisa I love it!
This morning there was a bit of a chill in the air and I noticed that a couple of my horses were doing this weird kind of pre-shedding thing they do right before the fall starts. They lose some of their summer coat as it grows in a bit thicker underneath. Fall is coming, summer is all too short here where I live. Sigh.
I am feeling in a bit of a funk, the pandemic still being in existence and this should be a time I look forward to- the excitement of kids going back to school, the coziness of being at home more. Only the kids aren't going to school and the "coziness of being at home more" seems oppressively isolating right now after all these months of social isolation already. To top it off, I have been arguing all the time with my husband lately. He's been awfully grumpy.
We did go on a short vacation this week and things improved while we were gone, but then when we got home again the oppression of "being at home" again seemed to set him off again. I drank too much wine on vacation again. I'm thinking of just not drinking again for the rest of the month. We have two more camping trips planned in August and I'm wishing I could just moderate- but for some reason it seems I just turn on the wine spigot every time.

We have a trip planned for next month. We want to get one in before whatever happens with schools resuming happens. By the time it arrives I will be just over 16 months AF so now the question of whether or not to plan to have something comes up again.
The one thing that is beginning to bother me is the amount of liquor and wine I have stored but not touched for all this time. I have 4 big bottles of vodka, 1 whiskey, 1 scotch, a few small items, and probably 8 or so bottles of wine. I do not want to waste it but I am not sure at my present speed of consumption how long it will take me to get through it.4 -

My goal has remained the same, one that I feel comfortable with: 16-20AF days each month.
Saturday August 01 - Drinks, fancy fruity ones that I concocted.
Sunday August 02 - AF - Didn't really want to be AF, but did.
Monday August 03 - AF - Too windy to go to a lake today (I float on a mat) so I did some stuff around the garden. It is still going to be 100 degrees for a couple of more days, I am going to try to only work in the mornings so that I can get to the lake while it is super hot and not windy. Motivation to not drink is how my belly swells up so big the day after having drinks. Planning on AF again tomorrow.
Tuesday August 04 - AF - Long stressful workday when I should have been at the lake, second to last really hot day. So badly wanted a few cocktails, but fought through it with my newfound "don't drink when you are stressed" tactic. Those cocktails won't be going anywhere, I will have a few on a happy day. Lake time Wednesday no matter what.
Wednesday August 05 - Drinks. Last hot day here, so went to the lake and had some yummy cocktails when I got home.
Thursday August 06 - AF - I will try to be AF tomorrow also to get 2 in a row.
Friday August 07 - AF - Might have drinks with a friend this weekend.
Saturday August 08 - Bunch of drinks with a girlfriend. I was making them, so put half of the alcohol in mine. We had a nice visit.
Sunday August 09 - AF - planning on racking up a few of those.
Monday August 10 - AF - This didn't post for some reason, probably human error : - )
Tuesday August 11 - AF - I really have myself convinced now to not numb myself with alcohol when stressed out. If I have a few drinks when I am happy I enjoy/savour them more. I will probably be making Mojitos again before the mint is finished. When it is almost done I make a giant vat of mint tea, strain it, then freeze it into containers to later put in the blender for a nice minty frozen iced tea drink (no alcohol).
Wednesday August 12 - AF - I have a long hard workday ahead tomorrow, so no drinks tonight.
Thursday August 13 - AF - Very long hard workday today, I really really wanted drinks, but hanging tough.

I don't have anything on YouTube or anything like that. I have a few old (very old) videos from some live shows in the late 70s up until '88 when I retired from the music business. I really didn't start singing again until about 4 years ago. Like, I didn't sing in the shower, in the car, nada.
Back in the day I was in all sorts of live bands of different genres for 10 years: Punk, Ska, Rockabilly, Reggae...and finally Heavy Metal wherein I wrote all of the songs for my band at that time (my last one), Mayhem.
Hilarious to watch and hear the video now although I haven't looked at it in a couple of years. Lots of screaming, big boffed hair. My voice has changed a great deal, I got a lot bigger (fatter), older, and my voice deepened quite a bit and I lost my upper range. My tastes of what I like to sing changed as well.
I will be 60 soon, and I am the youngest person in the band lol, we are just a bunch of people that love to get together and make music. I think of them as my brothers, I genuinely love them.
Digging through here to see if I can at least find some old photos. Thank y'all for being so supportive and interested!
This was at my own club in Toronto called "The Spot" in Kensington, not long before I retired from the biz. I ran it with a guy from a band called "The Demics". He got into Heroin really bad, the club crumbled, and he eventually overdosed and died. We played there a lot, both bands.
The famous ElMocombo in Toronto where even the Rolling Stones played. Big highlight for us to get a gig there!
They were my actual fingernails!
Haha, my life has changed so much. I suppose that girl is still inside me somewhere : - ) It has been a giggle for me to look at these old photos, and thanks so much for allowing me to share. Hope they don't come in sideways when I press "post", I actually had a dream about that last night after hearing about everybody's trouble with that.13 -
That's awesome @dawnbgethealthy looks like alot of fun! I miss the hair band days😔 the music was alot of fun, 7:04 am in Vegas another 24,hope everyone has a fabulous day, do something nice for yourself today 💖8

@dawnbgethealthy WOW a nice Joan Jet look! What memories you made! I am turning 62 in a couple of months, so your music is definitely something I would have listened to. I am sorry about your friend.6

2 glasses of wine last night, needed a wind-me-down from a frustrating day... it was planned and not out of control which I am happy for... but it did trigger my mindless munching, and weight was up on the scale this morning.
Although it is a "Friday", I am not planning on indulging tonight, my official MFP weigh-in is tomorrow, and I am hoping for a small loss or to at least maintain.7 -
WOW @dawnbgethealthy you are one cool lady!!!! I loved your photos, you look amazing. What a time and experience. Thanks for sharing!
@looneycatblue sometimes we just have a rough day and a couple glasses of wine helps. For me, I am happy if it doesn't stretch on to more than that. I feel two glasses after a hard day is good moderation. But everyone is different.
I had a good evening last night. Husband came home in a good mood, apologized for being so cranky. We had a good talk and busted out the Four Agreements. Have you guys ever read that? I read it a long time ago and am thinking it is time for a refresher with everyone being cooped up together. I avoided having any alcohol and am planning to avoid alcohol this weekend, too.

@dawnbgethealthy HOLY SMOKES I am on my knees and so impressed that you are such a rock star. 🎶🎙🎸What excellent photos and an amazing life. Thank you a million times over for sharing your story with us. WOW, now that is a hair style if I ever saw one.
So it looks like we have ourselves a less alcohol band. Now we need to come up with a catching name ( @mainelylisa ).
@shorepine I am also curious as to what the 4 agreements is. Will have to reseach that one. Happy two AF days for you.
@looneycatblue hope your weigh made you smile.
@Samand303 nice switch-a-roo. I pulled it off again with my iced tea in a fancy stemmed glass while out last night.😉
Smooth sailing through the first 14 days of August for me. Many obstacles, but luckily I can still hurdle going on 61 years of age 🤣😂😅
Have a fantastic weekend.4 -

Well hello there again @NovusDies. Been awhile, it is awesome to see your 16 month anniversary AF is approaching. Your a great inspiration to this group. 👍👍👍1 -
@MissMay the 4 Agreements is a really simple book that maintains that if you make four agreement with yourself, you will find personal freedom. The four agreements are: Be impeccable with your word. Don't take anything personally. Don't make assumptions. Always do your best.
It's a really short read and also a good one to come back to from time to time.
August is ticking on and on and I can't believe it's halfway over starting today! I'm feeling a little funny about that fact. This weekend, I don't have much planned only to hole up a bit at home. There's a big heat wave happening in other parts of the state which means the coast will be flooded with day trippers trying to escape the heat because of our naturally cool temperatures found here. Typically, we are anywhere from 20-30 degrees colder than inland areas.
I haven't felt much like drinking since returning home from our trip.

Ouch, I just don't do well with any amount of wine anymore. I was never a big wine drinker, but worked in the industry putting on tastings, designing wine lists etc. and used to be able to at least taste it. My sister and I are meeting in Osoyoos BC (the hottest place in Canada) in September for our birthdays celebration. We planned to visit a bunch of wineries in the region.
The way I feel today...very yucky.
A workout helped a little, trying to drink a bunch of water. Argh.5 -

Great point made here. My logic is quite similar so I can very much relate to the thought of "not wasting it". For some reason, if I have it, at some point, it "must" be consumed, otherwise it's wasted. I have to think about this some more. I seem to apply the same logic to food as well.3 -

Alka Seltzer...maybe and throw a few drops of hydration electrolytes in your water. I can relate after last night's husband's birthday party. I think we got ourselves to a "too healthy" level so our systems really kick up a fuss if we try to drink like before4 -

@globalhiker and @dawnbgethealthy hope your both doing better today. That is exactly what is happening when we drink less. We are lowering the toxins in our systems. Then when we reintroduce alcohol again, it reacts harshly.
That is when I have my worst feelings about myself towards what I have just done. The next morning when I wake up( or attempt to) and realize I have spent "X" number of days cleaning out the toxins and now I undid all the good. This of course is only my personal feelings towards my own actions afterwards. I have a few old snap shots from my 21st birthday party that show me "sleeping" peacefully, covered with someones coat in a chair. Looking at them I often wonder how the evening would have turned out if I had only had that one celebratory drink, instead of those many beers and shots.
@NovusDies so is the purchasing of the alcohol while you our on this long AF streak for other people in your family or when you have company over? Or was it a stash you had before you went AF? Curious.......
@shorepine I live right on the coast here in Maine and know what you mean about people trying to escape the heat inland by rushing to the coast. The problem this Summer has been the humidity has been so high for such a long extended time that there really is no were to find comfort. Nice 3 day AF streak stacking up..
Oh, and on another note: I can not drink wines, trying to get it past my nose once it is poured is difficult enough. Than there are the histamines and sulfates in wine that make me sneeze, eyes run, cough and wheeze , I become quite the mess. For some stupid reason prosecco does not do that to me, there is my down fall at times.
AUGUST 16 / 15 days alcohol free
Hot tea before bed last night and now having my cup of java eye opener. ☕
Successful goals for everyone today.

I too felt like having some prosecco (I call it champagne) but I have moved my schedule so that I can go to the lake tomorrow and I don't want to be "fogggy" I really want to enjoy it.
I had this:
It was really good. I chilled the champagne flute first of course, I am fancy like that lol8 -
This is the lake that I went to today. Glorious, nice and hot. This lake actually has a few cabins with docks on it, most of the lakes that I go to don't have any houses. It was nice floating by them on my mat dreaming of living there. I could never keep up with the upkeep on something like that, but dreaming is nice to do.
Blue skies, no wind, not a cloud. So lovely.8 -
Interesting comment on the wine @MissMay. I used to be able to have a glass of it without it bothering me. I had a glass or two of it every night in Dallas last fall on my vacation, and felt completely fine the next day. This is something new.
Gin, Vodka, Rum don't do that to me at all strangely.
If we wine tour in Osoyoos Okanagan wineries I will have to be prepared to have a slow day after. Hah, or maybe I will taste and spit it out. Do people do that?4 -

@dawnbgethealthy so glad your foggy brain is lifting....that was a good choice to have your beautiful chilled mock champagne in the tall fluted glass.
Your lake pictures are so intriguing. I want to be on lake water. This salty, yucky, nasty filled ocean water around here is horrible....oh and now the shark attack that killed a woman the next peninsula over, YIKES!
Thank you for bringing us into your world 💜
Darn goldenrod and queen annes lace are doing a number on my all ready sensitive allergies. Wearing my contacts is like having 120grit sand paper rubbing in my eyes. When I meet up with people I know what they are thinking. Rough night last night huh, with too many drinks? Nope.....just slept with the window up and the pollen sifted in.
I have now turned the corner on being more than half way AF for my August goal of a dry month. 16 days down, 15 to go.

Checking back in since I disappeared in March.
My goal drink less alcohol (4 AF days per week; ~16 AF days per month; limit 1-2 glasses per day) worked fine January and February then mid March I slipped.
My daughter's wedding we planned in mid April for 150 people kept changing to 50, then 20, then limited to 10 including the priest ... but we finally were able to include the parents and all the siblings so 13 was the final number of family including the bride and groom. Of course messages out to guest, changing all the bookings for venue, food, drink, flowers, cake, photographer, etc etc. They were married!! And it was lovely.
But my better habits and goals flew out the window. I've had drinks almost daily since then and many times up to 4-5 in an evening. I can count on both hands the number of AF days in April-July.
Fast forward to August. Put on the brakes!!! Started focusing again on myself, my needs, diet, exercise (walking 3 miles per day) and increased my AF days!
August 2020
Aug accountability ~ 16
No Alcohol: 14 days
Alcohol: 2 days (6 drinks)
Goal: AF days 4 per week / 16 per month; limit 1-2 glasses per day

@dawnbgethealthy Thanks for sharing your band days and lake days pictures! I enjoyed remembering the 70s ... and on the lake is my dream location to live ... one day!3
-
18 drinks/16 days...this is what happens when I decide to host a party and there is alcohol left in the house the next day. The good news is I did buy the lowest alcohol I could find that was drinkable, but the bad news is I drank one bottle Friday night and drank the second on Saturday. Barefoot spritzer crisp white. No hangover maybe because of the lower alcohol, but dangerously too drinkable. Still, I counted serving size the same as regular wine because portion control is my issue.
No drinks on Sunday and I really want to stay AF now until my vacation late September, hiking trip in Utah. Plan is to grill our own food. Figured southern Utah should be relatively easy to socially distance and looks to be more AF friendly compared to Arizona.6
