HEATHER Please read this as it explains what all of your DH's symptoms reveal. He already had a vestibular weakness causing the BPPV, but that fall caused permanent damage to his already weakened inner ear in my opinion. Before any cruises or flights, experiment to see how he does. Things like walking along the beach while watching the ocean. Maybe a short trip on a small boat. Try an elevation change like a quick drive up a mountain. How does he do on a fast elevator ride? See how a 2000 meter change in elevation affects him before boarding a plane. The problem with something like a flight is the time he would have to ride it out before getting off. During that time he could open a Perlmpth Fistula and his current state would be the best day scenario for many years if not life. Google Perlympth Fistula. I get up with a bit of imbalance every morning and have for the last 20 years. It is a way of life for me. I have a good idea what your dear dizzy husband is experiencing and hope I can say something so it doesn't get worse.

Here is info from a Neuro-otologist. Getting into seeing a Neuro-otologist is very expensive and usually leads to the same result and therapy you can get for free unless he has a tumor. I see you mentioning nothing that would indicate that. Please read this medical paper. You know his history and current symptoms and all a specialist would do is make a diagnosis based on that after running about $20K up for testing. To simplify, "DH has BPPV, he fell and banged his head causing a TSUNAMI of inner ear fluid to smash against membranes."

The diagnosis of TRAUMATIC endolymphatic hydrops is made by a HISTORY of trauma, such as barotrauma or a BLOW to the HEAD.

SuziQ: People here are generally being careful & but there are enough who refuse to wear masks in public to make new cases likely. Safeway won’t let you in the door without a mask. Same with the IGA store here in town. Walmart is not as vigilant, but most people are complying with wearing masks. Our county has had its first Covid 19 death. I don’t know the circumstances.

Kylia: Enjoy your soak. The wrinkles go away soon enough once you’re out of the water.

Barbara: I’m happy to see you posting again & very happy that Joe’s surgery went well. Good news! :star:

Lisa: We don’t have coffee tables, either. They get in the way. We do have a pair of decorative metal barrels that sit beside the couch and chair. They hold blankets & pillows for the occasion that someone wants a nap.

Heather: I hope your DH gets better on his own. It doesn’t sound like the medical people are stepping up to find out the cause of his morning weird spells. Does he wake up dizzy or confused? I would consider that worrisome. Machka has posted some links. I hope they lead to better understanding of what is going on for Johnny.

Our son and daughter in law want us to come and visit. They envision us traveling in our RV. DH is not doing as well as I’d like and I’m encouraging him to talk to his doctors so we can make a sensible decision about the possible road trip. It would be a long one to get from Oregon to Virginia and back. I will not go by myself and leave him alone at home.

Today I am going on a trail ride with a friend.

Tina No on the Grand Marnier! It is still unopened and I will probably regift it, but first, I must remember who gave it to me. The only hard stuff I can appreciate is brandy and only one shot for gargling at bedtime and 1/2 shot in the AM in coffee hot chocolate mix, my poor girls mocha with a bit of sass.

I cook with liqueurs. I don't drink them, generally. A bottle will sit on our shelf for years. Thankfully, that stuff doesn't "go bad."

I bet it would go good in brownies or maybe a desert smoothie.

Thank you Machka and Faye for all the links. I've read a lot of them. His symptoms so far are purely confined to a dizzy sensation on waking and an occasional feeling of being unsteady or 'tingly' in the head. His normal life isn't affected. He is so used to being super fit it is a bit of a shock to be human. He is still doing his exercises and 5k walks. He can stand on one leg.
I do worry about cruises and flights. We have nothing planned.
Faye - the idea of finding a mountain anywhere around makes me laugh. We have no mountain of that size anywhere in the UK. :D A small boat, yes, possible. I can't think of any handy fast elevators either! No skyscrapers! A walk on the beach watching the sea is a good idea.
When we go on cruises they are no fly. Local docks. But it might be a problem if he doesn't improve. Medical treatment is free in the UK, but the wheels grind exceeding slow, unless it is an emergency. He could do some of the eye/movement exercises to increase tolerance. I think Rebecca was doing those.

We went on a little trip over the last weekend. We went to where it was 118 degrees F/47.7 degrees C the entire 4 days we were there. Most of the time, we were in the lake. We had to be. There was a pool at the vacation home we rented and even the pool water was too hot. They should actually cool the water there, rather than heat it. My friend living in Arizona said the "kids" have ice block parties, where they go to someone's house with a pool and the "fee" to get in is a bag or block of ice that they dump in the pool to cool the water. I completely understand that now.

The mister, however, decided to try wake boarding and ended up re-injuring his back. So, he's back to square one after nearly feeling completely better after 5 months. I was smarter, didn't wake board or ski, and I'm still on the upswing. The swimming was good for my injuries.

As for masks, there are no mandatory mask laws there. However, most of the stores and other places we went into had mask required to enter signs on the doors and people inside were wearing them. We were a bit surprised by the behavior, though many of the patrons were from other states where it's more accepted to wear masks. But, I was happy to see the stores requiring them.

It was good to get away. I was getting a bit of cabin fever.

Debbie, I sure hope the reason that boy got shot at that store was not because of a mask. That would just make me incredibly sad. Interestingly, I haven't heard a peep about that on the news. Are shootings like this just getting to be so much of the norm that they don't even make the news anymore????

Beth - I have no words with regard to your son's situation. I cannot believe the negligence in some people.

Margaret - I am glad Drew seems to be helping you heal. Pets are good that way.

Hugs to all of those in need.

I think I bought it for some chicken dish with an orange sauce.

Heather Oh dear, no mountains. Maybe a cruise to Switzerland for a fast ascent of the Matterhorn might be a good test. You would get your vacation and he would get his head tested. A win-win for all.

Hey, that sounds good. Maybe some orange peel zest with it and a touch of hot paprika. Maybe I will try marinating some chicken tenders in the liqueur. When I get back from my illegal haircut I will research some orange sauces.

With headscarf, sunglasses, and M-95 face mask donned, I am off to work as a cleaning lady.

We’re discussing a trip east to see our kids. The plan was to go in the motorhome. Now DH doesn’t want to use it & would rather have a much smaller one. I am frustrated.

Here is the link to one of the stories.

It should be all over the news- I am surprised that it isn't showing up down there- such a tragedy for sure.

    Debbie - So sad.

It's not all over the news because these things happen every day in multiple locations. Yesterday a young man was shot by a State Trooper here - all over a broken taillight. :disappointed:
