@aliciap0116 I'm so sorry to read about the bike accident. I'm praying your husband's operation went well. Well done for not leaning on food to comfort you, but honestly just be kind to yourself no matter what you do or don't do!

@aliciap0116 sorry to hear about your husband, sending thoughts and mojo. Don't feel silly for posting here- you are taking care of yourself in a time of stress, and you should do that.
Good morning everyone, I've read all your posts and clicked your buttons! I've had a run this morning, which feels great coupled with the fact that it was my night to sleep without the baby last night. I've got some lush overnight oats with cherries, a 1:1 ratio of oats to cherries- just the way I like it. And the scale said 181 this morning! Feeling great. I hope the scale is as nice to me tomorrow, for the official weigh in. We'll see.
Have a good day, everyone!8 -
I hope everyone has a really good day today! I woke up without the alarm, just before it went off, and the morning weight was back to its usual fluctuations so I think that means my shoulders and back have healed up. I'm really feeling energetic and ready to do everything that needs doing today, and I love that feeling!
I have a lot of cooking to do today for my in-laws and so that's the main thing scheduled today, that and putting away the laundry that hung to dry last night. We're going to have another hot humid day, bleah. It's September, time for fall!3 -
@ThisMagicMoment I feel ya on the New England heat! I'm a little further north than that but this summer has been one for the record books!!
@KeriA Decluttering is the best feeling in the world! That's what I spent the few weeks of quarantine doing (then I was able to go in to work as we have lots of space and separate areas). I still have my big closet off my living room to muck out and I will be happy. Sure will make that major housecleaning for the holidays easier!
@motivatedsister We got this! It helps having someone whose brain tries to trick them in the same way!!
@torihudson6 Wow, you really do have a lot on your plate. It's pretty amazing that you are finding time to take care of yourself too.
@lilann1961 Some days I don't want to get out of bed and I try to think of all the reasons why I can't exercise. But then I think about how great a mood it leaves me in and I can't stay in bed. Just like your elliptical!
@PennycillinEQ haha I like your sense of humour. I'd be right there with you shooting up the computer, cause this is hard...physically, emotionally, spiritually!!
@holdthefries You're doing great, 3 pounds in one week!! Wow!
@wanderinglight I thought of you last night as i was sitting in bed doomscrolling through facebook! I immediately got up and plugged it into its charger on the other side of the room. Thanks for that!!
@MuttiNM That is pretty incredible to put your real weight on the license!!
@AlexandraFindsHerself1971 Your whooosh will come!! Also, I'm sorry your BF is dealing with mental health crises. The role you are in is not an easy one. I have a niece and a nephew, siblings, in crises mode right now and it is heartbreaking.
@ZhivagosGirl Wedding rings was a big motivator for me too!
@amina71016 Long weekend got the best of me too but isn't it great how quickly we were able to catch it and turn it around?? That's progress!
@aliciap0116 Wow, with all you're going through, it's amazing that you have time to fit in workouts. That's dedication. Thinking of you and hope your husband heals well and quickly!!
Sorry to be long winded but I just realized I appreciate the call outs so much myself that I really wanted to start too!!10 -
You all are so awesome!! Just had to say it. Have a great Thursday!!6
-
@MuttiNM I've just read your post, you have lost a phenomenal amount of weight, what an inspiration! Glad we don't need our weight on our license!! Imagine how many false numbers there must be!

Catching up but it's a lot! Kids went back to all virtual school in NY so I'm balancing plates here as they get settled into a routine. Eating has been ok. I'm up a pound since my low last weigh in but considering I had a few "food heavy" get togethers recently I'll take it. Managed to get 30 minutes on the assault bike (about 200 calories) while the kids ate lunch. All my meals are logged for the day and I'm on track!
@aliciap0116 well wishes for your husband4 -
Happy Thursday! I logged my food plan or the day. So today, the plan is to have another strength training session. I can choose between my usual free/body weight one or my new resistance band one. I also saved some resistance band videos.
I have a medium pile of papers to go through from the weekends decluttering.
I made Coronation Chicken for dinner last night. It was very good. I found out about it while reading one of my books. Tonight my husband makes wild-caught pacific salmon. We have tons of tomatoes so I have a Greek tomato, potato green bean dish planned for tomorrow. It won’t make a dent in the tomatoes.
I am really pleased. My husband never set up outlook on my computer and I hate the internet version of it. I guess my software was updated last night so it prompted me to set up Outlook. I tried doing this unsuccessfully before but this time it worked. I have outlook just like I did at work! I can get more organized now. It isn’t both my emails and unfortunately job emails come on the other one. Anyway I think it will help me with establishing a better weekday routine which I need now.
Here are my new Brooks:
I love rose gold.
10 -
I forgot. Yesterday I did 30 minutes on my Gazelle and after dinner I took my husband for a walk too despite the smoke. I also got all my water intake yesterday. Hope today goes the same. Also when I was logging in my food plan I saw that 1 item was set for 2 of something when I been having only 1 of them. I had to go back and correct the last 3 days. I have been having less calories that I thought. Which means the scale should be down more than it is.
There use to be on MFP a little grumbling animated emoji. I loved that guy.4 -
@changeforeverlj I wish we didn't need our weight on our license. I filled out my renewal application online 2 weeks ago. I just guessed what my real weight might be for my appointment today. I guessed wrong...I am a little over a pound less than my guess. Oh, well. I tried to be honest this time. And my inadvertent fake weight is higher than my real weight this time instead of the other way around!
@KeriA Your new shoes are beautiful! I hope they are comfortable for you as well. Your talk of decluttering has inspired me to do some as well. When I retired a few years ago, I moved from a 3 bedroom house with a basement and 2.5 car garage into a 1 bedroom condo with just a small storage unit and a shared underground garage (so no place to store things in the garage). I thought I got rid of a lot when I moved but now that I've been here a while and have a better idea of what retired life is like, I think I can purge some more stuff. I started with going through my paperwork. That's the thing I always put off until the end (& usually never get to) so this time I thought I'd mix it up and start there. I'm almost done! Thanks the the inspiration!5 -
@orangequilt,thank you!
@CupcakeCrusoe, yummy, I wished I like oatmeal/oats, I know they can be so filling, but I just cannot get past the taste.
@AlexandraFindsHerself1971, same to you!
@iloveeggnog, it is definitely a process! I have my good days and the day I slip up.
@lilann1961, so are you!!
@jayemes, go you! Virtual learning is SO hard to balance.
@KeriA, sounds like you have a productive day with yummy meals planned! And great shoes, rose gold is also a favorite of mine.
Today I decided to sleep in and work from home, so I missed my 7AM work out class. Usually I would chalk that up as a loss, but since I took Tuesday off, I really wanted to get some movement in today. My gym still posts the workouts online in case people don't want to come in because of COVID, so I was able to access that and I actually did it. I am someone that HATES working out at home, I'm not sure why, it is just not successful for me, so this is quite the win!5 -
@KeriA my friend swears by Brooks. Yours are lovely!
@MuttiNM decluttering feels so good. I'm waiting for the Vets to start doing pickups by me again so I can unload a ton of stuff!
@torihudson6 my gym is happily still doing online workouts also since they opened last week. I'm miserable working out at home. Finding this gym 3 years ago and doing group fitness with the amazing community there is my true happy place. I'm just not fit enough to manage working out in a mask
2 -
@KeriA Your Brooks are really lovely, wishing you many happy healthy miles in them! Vietnamese food is such an unknown here but I love Asian food so I'm sure I would love the fresh taste! I've also been using my resistance bands, mainly for arms, just trying to develop a habit of using them first!2

Friday weigh in day!
The scale was not super nice to me today, but the baby kept me up really late last night, so that probably didn't help. My calories this week have been good, just gotta wait the scale out.

Woke up early today because Girlfriend is having a manic episode and not having much fun, and Boyfriend has a job interview this morning. Fortunately online. I'm hoping that she doesn't need to go to the hospital, as she has had a lot of problems and discrimination with medical personnel and really doesn't want to go through another round of that. It would also interfere with her college classes, so I'd rather not take her if she doesn't have to go. Mania is not fun for any of us, though. (She knows it's mania, and despite not having had one this bad for a few years, this is not a new symptom. We already knew she was bipolar.)
On the other hand, I'm wearing new clothes in sizes that I didn't think I would ever wear again, and that is a thing that makes me happy. And despite the low-grade crisis going on, they both noticed what I had on, and one said I looked good and the other said, "Oh, you're looking so thin and I love your... in those jeans!" So that's nice.
I have a lot of cooking to do today, and Boyfriend has to go to see his psychiatrist in person today, and that's liable to be hard on him; he hasn't seen him in person (thanks to COVID) since before he had the psychotic break last November, and having to tell the doctor about the results of that break are likely to be triggering. He'll probably come back and need to just go to bed.
So today is going to be interesting. I'm really glad I have good eating habits and a food schedule in place, because that will keep me on track without me having to pay much attention to that.

And look at the pretty rainbow above it!
@aliciap0116 I hope your husband makes a quick and complete recovery.
@ZhivagosGirl Being able to wear my wedding ring again has been one of my goals ever since I hit my highest weight several years ago. Even though my husband is gone now, that's still one of my main goals. As far as I can tell, I went up two ring sizes, so it's going to take awhile to get there.
...I've bounced up and down all week long, but pretty much stayed around the same weight on the scale. Staying the same is better than gaining, so I'll take it.
For September I want to drop anywhere into the 250s, even if it's just 259. Still two pounds away, and it's almost mid-September, so I need to make more of an effort.
Enjoy the weekend.

Weekly Weigh-In
9/4: 241
9/11: 239
September Goals
*Weighing under 241 for month of September--good so far
*Continue exercising 3-5x a week, preferably 4--accomplished!
*Track food daily, even when over calorie goals--successful!
*Continue practicing self-kindness when working on relationship with food--always a work in progress, but I was able to control my cravings this week.
I am happy to see this number. I had originally dropped into the high 230s briefly in May. Then quarantine hit full force and I gained it back plus some, so this is quite the accomplishment for me.
@jayemes, my gym is also doing online posting so people can still access their services, but finding that motivation to work out at home is quite difficult. Hopefully things will slowly ease back into "normal" soon enough.
@CupcakeCrusoe, great consistency! And you have a great Friday as well
@AlexandraFindsHerself1971, I hope today goes smoothly for you!
@ThisMagicMoment, you got this! And what a lovely goal to achieve. Enjoy your weekend, too!

In Seattle we do not typically have air conditioning in our homes. It gets into the 80-90s under 5 days a year typically and usually in August. It is September and it is still hot. What we do is open windows and run fans for the few days we need to. Well we just got all the smoke from California and Oregon blowing into western Washington. Yesterday was the hottest and the air quality was near the unhealthy range especially for susceptible people. Today is still hot but not quite as hot as yesterday and the air quality is in the extreme unhealthy range. Smoke from Washington fires are blowing east so that smoke isn't affecting us but the fires have come across the mountains and causing hazards east of Tacoma which is south of us. I'm in northwest Seattle.
So I have not been doing my exercises outside. Last night we closed all doors and windows and haven't opened them so instead of the 30 minute exercise session I just barely did 25 minutes until I was just too hot. We will have leftover Coronation chicken for dinner so we don't have to cook. This morning I spent paying bills and applying to jobs. Due to my cat allergies and having 2 adorable kittens we got 3 air purifyers. I am fine with 1 indoor/outdoor cat but 2 indoor cats are too much. However with coyotes in our neighborhood they indoors cats. We may be having other wild life coming into our yards from the fires, cougars, deer etc. I will now get a glass of water and check out your posts.6 -
Ugh - I hear you on the air quality. I'm in Portland. Yesterday and today our air quality was the worst of any city in the world. Even stepping outside for a brief time is dangerous. The smell of smoke hurts my eyes and throat. Inside, even with the windows closed, smell still permeates. The smoke is so thick, it looks foggy, but in fact there is not a cloud in the sky. It was supposed to be 80 degrees today, but because the sun is completely blocked, the weather is chilly. We are not in an evacuation zone, thank goodness. 10% of Oregon residents have had to evacuate for the worst fires the state has ever had in its history.
Needless to say, I won't be hitting my fitness goals this week. I haven't been able to exercise since Monday when the fires began.
On the bright side, this disaster is a distraction from the pandemic. What else you got, 2020?9 -

Time for an update.
It's been a crazy first week of school...we are back full time with smaller class sizes. It's been scary and good at the same time.
I'm so proud of myself for sticking to the plan...I'm trying to recognize patterns as I know that sometimes my gains are because of lack of sleep and hormones, so I'm trying to be gracious.

September goals:
Maintain my weight between 167 and 173⛔ - Revising this goal to maintain between 162 and 168
Log food daily ✅
Row or Run at least 6x's a week ⛔ -Smoke means no exercise
Get at least 45 "active" minutes a day ⛔
Get at least 10,000 steps/day ⛔ - On the plus side, I did get my fitbit back, so once it's safe to go outside again I can at track my steps more accurately.
So, weird thing happened. Prior to this week, I'd been getting tons of exercise. I've been either rowing or running between 6 and 7 days a week and getting lots of walks in on the non-running days. Suddenly when 35 separate forest fires swept through our normally lush green Oregon the air quality became the worst in the entire planet. So obviously exercise, even short walks had to stop.
I thought that would mean I would gain weight. But instead, I've dropped weight every day since Monday. And today, since I didn't have to get up at "Row O'Clock" (that's the crack of dawn) today, I dropped another 2 pounds.
Those of you who know me, know that I often advise people that exercise makes you retain water. Well, this is the first time I really experienced a whoosh from an exercise break. But honestly, I'd rather have that 5 pounds in water weight back if it would mean no more fires. Every time I see a bit of ash in the air, I wonder, was that someone's precious family photo album, was it their child's favorite teddy bear? Even if it was just from Douglas Fir, it's still precious and the loss is too much to bear.
I know I'm usually so positive. Even through the pandemic and our crazy political strife that we've had on our country (not to mention in Portland specifically - our city was tear gassed nightly by unidentified federal troops that occupied our city for 2 solid weeks!), I've stayed cheerful, positive, stuck to my goals and concentrated on what I could control. I kept logging my food, took up rowing, kept up with running, kept going to work. This is just really too much. Please pray for rain - not just for Oregon, but the whole west coast.
And for those of you in Europe, I'm sorry - apparently you are starting to get our smoke as it crosses the Pacific Ocean. As you see the orange haze in the sky, please think of all the beautiful Douglas Firs, photos albums and teddy bears that have been reduced to ash and smoke.8 -

I'm getting married next year, and I've just been gaining weight for the last decade. I'm hoping to drop some weight and get fitter before the big day. I want to start this next phase of my life on a better footing.7 -
@speyerj Yes Portland’s air quality is the worst today, then Vancouver BC, then Seattle. I am glad it is cooling there. It is a bit cooler here today finally so the question is do I slip in an exercise session indoors. I am so glad we bought those air purifyers for the cats. Don’t ask 2020 what else it’s got please! Sorry you didn’t get to row or run. I am glad it has had a weight loss benefit. This is getting to me too. I too have worked on staying positive. Through staying home, furlough, my daughter not being able to have a graduation ceremony from college, being laid off and having to take care of medical issues when it isn’t really safe to do it I stayed positive but the fires and smoke is just too much. I was worried about those in Louisiana who were hit by a hurricane and no one helped. This country used to be there to help each other.
@pamiede there is much to be said for slow weight loss. Protein is good too.
@TeacherMamaJen take care right now. You need your sleep not just for losing but for keeping well. Don’t worry about weight for now just stay safe and healthy.
@Riddikulus89 I like you last goal the best – be kind to yourself. I know you have a great motivating factor right now but I think that the way to approach this isn’t to think of getting slimmer for a wedding but figuring out a sustainable relationship with food for the rest of your life which is highly compatible with the last line of your post. It seems to me you realize that temporary weight loss isn’t the best goal whatever the results. A lifetime of healthy eating and exercise is. Healthy eating isn’t denying yourself foods you love. It means eating healthy foods and figuring out how to balance that with your activity level.
@torihudson6 good for you getting that workout in at home. I too really struggled since the gym closed with exercise. I finally have some things that work but exercise is the 1st thing out the window for me now when before Aquafit was the last thing out the window. I miss working out in a pool so much. I am glad you are starting to seeing some progress again.
@AlexandraFindsHerself I am sorry that it was a hard day at home but glad there were some personal progress to celebrate too.
@CupcakeCrusoe yes bad night sleep can definitely show on the scale.
I did my daily log/food plan today. I do not put as much pressure on myself to get exercise on the weekends since I am still struggling with 5 days a week lately but with a long weekend last week I am going to try to do something today inside of course with this bad air. It is cooler too than it has been this past week. I am making a Greek dish to use up our tomatoes tonight, Fasolakia. I was going to make it last night but decided leftovers were a better idea since it was too hot to cook. We had Coronation chicken again. Tomorrow I am going to make pico de gallo for chicken tacos/fajitas. We were going to do some yard work this weekend but that is now out. I am praying for rain and not just for Washington for California and Oregon and anywhere else that needs it. I can exercise in it not in smoke.3 -
Today I had the meeting with the trainer. He gave me some exercises to do at home in addition to what I already do, and said, as far as weight work, "That stuff you're doing? Do that." So I will start an every day low weight low rep weight lifting practice, and gradually work upwards in weight. I will also begin riding a bike there and working that upwards time-wise. I also took the second week's food over to my in-laws.
My girlfriend is over the worst of the manic phase, and is back to doing her schoolwork. She still doesn't have much appetite, so we'll see how that shakes out regarding her weight loss.
Tonight I am having a very thin crust crispy sausage pizza, and enjoying the heck out of it. I've been staring at that crust and thinking about making pizza for about a week.2 -
Today I inhaled a calorie dense slice of my husband's comfort cake! He injured himself playing soccer and has been self soothing with beer and this cake from a bakery around the corner. He is one of those naturally thin people for the record. In order to handle said overage, I was on point with everything else today. So not a very exciting menu and already looking forward to tomorrow hah.
But, on the flip side, I have been asked to join a running group here in my town. ME!!! I still wonder who this runner is that lives in my house and looks like me!10 -
@speyerj Fires are devastating, praying for rain in your State! I remember last year Australia suffered from those terrible bush fires for months, heartbreaking.
You certainly had a good loss this week! My weigh-in is tomorrow and I'm in a panic for the first time in 6 months I've put on weight. Not because of eating, in fact, since Friday I've eaten fewer calories to try and spark a downward trend, yesterday I went on a very long brisk walk, but this morning I've picked up again. I've been trying to think of what I did that was different, I've gone on more walks outside and I've started doing resistance band/weight training. Today I'm not going to allow my calorie deficit to be so low, I'm going to eat more protein, and will log-in my weight regardless. It's an important moment on my journey, before I would use this as a stick to beat myself up and binge.
4 -
Good luck with your weigh in @changeforeverlj . If you've lost weight for six months straight you're doing very well! One gain won't be the end of the world, don't let it send you on a binge!1

I think I'm moving my weigh day to Fridays. The weekends are just too unpredictable and I don't feel like they represent the week. I tend to drink a bit more or eat later in the day - so my morning weigh ins are slightly up but over the week the salt/alcohol/water weight goes away and I hit a new low (as long as I'm doing the work all week).
Got a ton of exercise this weekend so far. Doing heavy yard work (ripping up old overgrown bushes and moving lots of dirt) Diet's been good too. Staying reasonable. Had a BBQ for my brother in law's birthday yesterday and I didn't have cake - because I really didn't want it. Normally I'd have had two pieces just because it tasted good. So win for me!
Got 4 workouts in last week. Going to try to do the same this week. And I NEED TO DRINK MORE WATER!!!
Happy Sunday all6
