@kgirlhart This article really helped me understand grief after my dad died. Hopefully it will help you as well. It's been 2 years (next month) and I still will have random cries over something silly.

Ran in a light rain this morning and 57F temps. Started out in a rain jacket but shed it after the first mile. Hiking to Mt. LeConte in the Smoky Mountains tomorrow and spending the night in the lodge at the top. Thousands and thousands (according to the website) try to get a reservation at the lodge each year when the system opens up in October. A friend didn’t get a reservation last year but she got put on a waiting list and someone cancelled a few weeks ago so she invited me and a couple of other friends. Our cabin has double bunk beds, no electricity or plumbing, but a kerosene lamp for light. There is a communal bathroom with flushing toilets for the guests. They bring a pitcher of warm water to your cabin in the evening for bathing purposes. There are no roads to the lodge. Supplies are brought in by helicopter at the beginning of the season and then llamas pack additional supplies up three times during the week. Of course, it’s supposed to rain all day tomorrow but I’m looking forward to our adventure anyway. It’s a cut back for marathon training so I will get my “long” run of 12-16 miles in on Sunday.
Hugs to you @mbaker566. Sorry about your losses.
What a beautiful paved trail @rheddmobile!
@quilteryoyo I can picture Tippy saying “Mom you may be crazy enough to run up and down this driveway over and over but I’ll be here in the shade if you need me.” Great pace especially for your hilly driveway.
@kgirlhart my heart aches for you.
Good luck with your half marathons this weekend @marisap2010 and @polskagirl01!
@noblsheep – I think your sleeping experiment is very interesting. Please continue the updates!

Thanks @quilteryoyo and @Tramboman and @Scott6255 . And thanks for the article @RunsOnEspresso. I expected losing a parent to be hard, but it is way worse than I could have imagined. But I am trying to move forward as I know there really is no other choice.
Today I finally went back to work. Luckily my boss is very understanding and has told me to take as much time as I need. But I felt like getting back into my daily routines would probably help as much as moping around the house. I got up before work and went for a run. It was really nice. We've actually been having some fall weather so I enjoyed it. I ran 6 miles and then came home and did a little yoga. It was pretty gentle, stretching yoga which was good for me since I haven't done any yoga in over a week and I was a bit wobbly today.
@mbaker566 I'm so sorry for your loss and also the loss of your job. It especially sucks when it all hits at once.
@eleanorhawkins I saw that your dad was ill, but I missed if there was any update. I hope all is well and I'm sending you hugs.
2020 races:
11/7/20: Run for 57th AHC Half Marathon5 -
@mbaker566 I am so so so sorry.
RE: Medal: @rheddmobile - I'll swing my vote to whatever the group decides. Your quote is much more cost effective. My only concern would be anything being made overseas would take forever. But patience is a virtue and if it saves us all a ton of money???
@rheddmobile your hat! So Tuesday was actually the first day I had ever run in a hat because of the rain and I loved it. I should check out poshmark. I should ALSO stop spending money.
@noblsheep the sleep experiment is so interesting to me. I wake up exactly two hours after falling asleep every night but then I'm usually able to sleep the rest of the night. And that's WITH anxiety meds taken before bed.
Also regarding the teenager: Today, I might actually rip my hair out. I may also scream all the way inside myself, which will end it outward crying. Okay, so I can't do any of that. She's mad because I turned her phone off and she can't listen to music while she works at school. Now, she does have autism. And the music helps her work. Only issue is that if I restore data access, she will also have all the other distractions on her phone that have apparently kept her from completing several assignments since the start of the school year. So no phone. I just keep reiterating the same thing: When the missing assignments are complete, I will be able to restore access to data. I have already answered the question.
She's exhausting.
I have 15.5 miles tonight for the third leg of the Jangover challenge. By the time I survive this day, I'm going to really need that run. It's going to have to be my utmost priority too because I can already tell every single bit of life is going to get in the way.
@quilteryoyo and everyone who laughed about the egg - I'm glad you did! It was hilarious and the sole purpose for me telling you about it! The other thing is that the paint on the walls and flooring in the building is brand new. So I was running around trying to clean it up like a crazy person. I wish it had been a Seinfeld episode.
Anyway. I hope you're all well. Pray for me. I may legitimately lose my mind before the day is up.6 -
@Camaramandy648 Is there another way to get her music? Like Amazon music you used to be able to download to phone so you could listen without data. I believe it has to be music you own. I download podcasts to listen to without service. Website like amazon music or spotify maybe? Go old school with CDs? Trying to come up with a compromise here. LOL3

@mbaker566 @kgirlhart Hugs to both of you. Losing a parent (I lost my mom 10 years ago and still is hard at times) or a family member is heartbreaking. Much love as you get through this.
Good luck to the racers!
@Camaramandy648 Yeah cracked (pun intended) me up too about your egg fiasco.
How long do we have to go though teenage years? LOL feels like forever. Sorry , just know you are not alone!
Spin today. Good thing cause hamstring was tight today - not painful, but probably better not to chance it.

Hey guys.
11 days till I can run! Ive been strict about my strength and rolling and I've already noticed a difference. I was getting niggles when I stood and walked after sitting foe a while that would quickly go away. Those seem to be clearing (foam roller for the win!) though yesterday I kept getting niggles in other stranger places, like by my knees etc. So I think im working out the scar tissue and getting everything better. I genuinely think ill be back to running on the 6th. That will be 10 weeks since the tear.
I have a week off after today, school holidays here! My mum is visiting and we will be getting out on our bikes a lot. Really looking forward to it9 -
@kgirlhart Thanks. He's still in the first hospital, on steroids, waiting to be taken to London to a specialist hospital for... nobody knows, especially not me in another country and relying on second hand information relayed via my little half-sister. It was supposed to be today but it didn't happen. They're letting his wife in to see him for about an hour a day.
My heart goes out to you, I hope you are able to remember the good things and that getting back into a routine helps.
@Camaramandy648 you are far from alone. My daughter is 14 too, severe anxiety and... issues... much exacerbated by all this corona *kitten*. Her school is doing alternating weeks of online and in the building, she's been here this week but has to go there next week and is terrified, which comes out in many different ways.
I'm running. Running helps. Yoga helps a bit. On Tuesday I cycled up to that bridge I screamed under after @PastorVincent left us and did some more screaming. It's been christened the Screaming Bridge, in my mind at least. I might get arrested or locked up in an asylum if people catch me doing that. Oh well. Maybe someone else would do the worrying for me there.

Hahahahaha all great suggestions!
WELL GUESS WHO COMPLETED FIVE ASSIGNMENTS TODAY! The TEENAGER! She has several more to do but if she focuses, she'll get em done quick. They're all "read this, answer this question," type assignments.
I actually did suggest that we set up my spotify account on her phone so that she can have her own playlist and not be using data. But do you know what she said? She literally cringed and said, "No Mom I want MY OWN!"
To that, i say... well, I'd like you to have a clean room and stay caught up in school.
What would be really funny is if I bought her an 80s style boombox and made her carry it around with a bag full of cassette tapes!
Merry Christmas.

Today it rained. I didn't run. I hate rain. That is all.4

@noblsheep I hadn't heard of polyphasic sleep before. Sounds like it may be what you need. I hope it all works out and you get acclimated to it quickly.

@Teresa502 I hope you enjoy Mt LeConte. I have never been there, so looking forward to your report. I think you are exactly right about what Tippy would say. LOL
@kgirlhart I'm glad your boss is understanding. So many aren't. You will continue to be in my thoughts and prayers.

@mbaker566 sorry to hear about the difficult times you're having.
@marisap2010 good luck on your virtual HM!
@noblsheep the sleep thing is fascinating. I hope the new schedule helps!0 -
@Camaramandy648 good job holding your ground. Teenagers in general can be difficult, so I'm sure adding the autism in is just a whole 'nother level! We have an older set of kids (now adults) and a younger set, and I remember one troubled teenager (with ADHD) in particular who could do all manner of schoolwork, quickly and accurately - when he had the right "carrot" out in front of him. It was so hard finding the carrot that would actually work though. And checking the parent portal daily. And helping him make notebooks to organize his schoolwork. If he wasn't motivated he was literally flunking out of high school. He's doing fine now with a little family of his own
I don't even have to do this for my little kids now. I'm the same parent. Every kid is different.5 -
I did NOT get good news yesterday. My aneurysm has grown and is now to the point that we know it will need to be fixed. The doctor and PA suggested doing another CT in 3 months and then deciding. That is what we scheduled yesterday. But, they also gave me an option to just go ahead and get it fixed if I am going to be too worried about it bursting before then. So, I am going to spend the weekend going over the options and the pros and cons of both decisions (that's the engineer in me), talking to friends and family, and making a decision. Mom and dad think I should go ahead and have it done....mostly because if I wait until January the weather could be a factor in a lot of ways. Right now, before the introspection, I am thinking about going ahead and having it done toward the end of October. That would give me time to get some things accomplished, like making a will (something I have been meaning to do for12 years), making arrangements for someone to keep Tippy for a couple of weeks, freezing some healthy meals that I can easily heat up or add to, etc.
The aneurysm is 5 cm. The PA said that for some people, that might actually be normal, but since I'm such a petite lady that's pretty big. Okay. First time in my life I've been called petite and wouldn't you know it was not necessarily a good thing. LOL Then, when talking about the option to wait 3 months, he said, "If you were my mother sitting here, that is what I would recommend for her to do." What? Do I really look old enough to be your mother? I know he was trying to be reassuring, and I really appreciate that, but still.
The PA is a runner and has run some ultras. So, he is all about me continuing to run for now and said that I would be able to walk a lot after the procedure is done. Just won't be able to run for 6 - 8 weeks, until the sternum is completely healed.
I'll let you all know what I decide. If you have any input, I will take it and put it in my decision making process. I do consider you all my friends and know that you want what is best for me.13
