I'd go for Fenix 6S because it's the smallest, however, read the following for a more informed view: https://www.pocket-lint.com/fitness-trackers/buyers-guides/garmin/143061-best-garmin-watch-fenix-forerunner-and-vivo-compared
Thanks. I'm leaning that direction cause having an all rounder appeals, and I like the battery life.
However this is mostly hypothetical... I'm dreaming, though there is is a very small teeny tiny chance of getting it.

@quilteryoyo congratulations on the good checkup, and welcome back to your bed!
@noblsheep: Really enjoyed Beihai park, the discussion of courtyard homes and tour of the Peking Duck restaurant established before Shakespeare was born!
and again, thoughts of warmth and freely flowing water to all of you in Texas and other weather affected areas.....
*So, my 2021 resolution is to hike/run all 193 (or 195 depending on your source) countries of the world this year. This could be difficult, since I don’t have a passport. But YouTube to the rescue! I have been using the site to take train “trips” recently, and have found them strangely motivating. Why not use Youtube vlogs to hike/run the world (and learn something about each country)?

Hypothetical question. Which watch would you get and why between garmin Fenix 6s Pro and garmin forerunner 945?
And go!
It's like somebody wrote an exam question just for me!
Both the forerunner and fenix are due a new models this year. The FR955 was ready and is only held back as they don't want the varying lockdowns in countries to hinder the opening month sales boost that new garmins get. Fenix 7 is due towards the end of the year. This makes both options look like they will get a price drop soon though the 6 has already seen some reductions.
The standard 945 and fenix are the same size and, as @ContraryMaryMary said, it is large on the wrist compared with my 44mm apple watch - 3mm seems to make a lot of difference. If I was going to make triathlons a thing I might have gone with the 945 though that was the only plus I really saw in it.
Given the current prices I went for the fenix 5. The upgrade features - the better music controls, garmin pay and o2 sensor - were all things I wouldn't miss. I was patient and found a 'brand new' 5 sapphire without box but with original charger for under NZD400 on eBay. I then bought another used 5 sapphire watch on eBay with a terrible description but with box, manual and several replacement straps including a metal strap if we ever get to go out again! I resold the used version for more than I bought it for without the box and kept the straps I liked.
I'm sure I would love the FR945 or fenix 6 just as much however I get everything I need and some spare straps for about 40% of the new cost. The big thing for me was the sapphire glass as I forget to take off the watch when I am doing DIY or repairs on the bike and I would scratch it.6 -
@kgirlhart Glad you are staying safe and haven't lost power or water.
@katharmonic I had issues with MFP freezing up last night too. My Garmin is rarely anywhere close to what the treadmill says, but I haven't really tried to synch them. I use treadmill distance and time, but use the Garmin calories burned. I figure even if it isn't totally accurate, the comparisons from other treadmill runs/walks are comparable.
Thanks all for the comments about my follow up appointment. I'm really happy with the results.

Another bit of snow yesterday afternoon and things that had just started to melt froze over last night. Footing this morning was a bit more treacherous. Looking out my office window, I think I see a bright yellow orb in the sky, not quite sure what it is, but hopefully it will melt away more of this mess
Interesting discussion about Garmins. I'm hoping to update my Forerunner 220 later this year so I've been trying to compare models and figure which one is a good balance of price vs. features. I've enjoyed everyone's input.

Snowed some more last night. Was really wanting to go outside, but opted for the safer choice. Maybe tomorrow...;
When you pop in here claiming your December 2021 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
PUT THE FUN BACK IN THE RUN!
Return to a good running weight of 175 lbs (second attempt)4 -
I'm a little late joining the discussion but my February goal is to complete Couch to 5k. It's been years since I have run consistently and it feels great to get back out there.
Like many of you the snow has me running in a treadmill instead of outside which is great for working on my pace.
Good luck to all of you fighting through snow, power and water issues. I hope you are doing well!10 -

@martindale – Glad you are making it through the storm relatively unscathed. I hope the hospital can help your father-in-law improve.
Wow @Scott6255 – snow on the beach? What a sight! Stay safe!
Excellent news @quilteryoyo. Being able to drive and sleep in a bed is a game changer!
My Garmin is not synced with my treadmill either @katharmonic. It only records when I run, nothing if I stop for a walk break.
@rheddmobile – You got a big ole “Inspiring” click from me for your efforts in feeding the birds! I know they appreciate it.
@Avidkeo – no watch advice here. You know @PastorVincent would be all over that question! But wow - @MrWobbly to the rescue!
@Eaglesfanintn – Could you send that bright yellow orb my way? I could really really use that vision and feel right now!
Welcome @eric13296! Never ever too late to join us.

Decided to do a longish run this morning for several reasons, one of them that I needed to manage some work stress/anxiety. So what better way than to skip going to work and run! It helped. Although I'll have to do some work over the weekend I will hopefully be in a better headspace (and not have to deal with other people in my physical space either). I met up with the run club group and it was about 23 F and lightly snowing, but the footing was decent in the park. I ran with the group for the first 2 miles or so and then was on my own so I cranked up some music and ran a little harder. I don't know how he knew, but a guy I saw at one end of the park by the dog park said something to me like "getting out your frustrations?" Hmmm, yes I am. I would normally do a bit more for a long run but decided I had worked out enough of the frustrations to call it at 7 miles and get on with my day.6 -

Wow thanks @TheMrWobbly perfect description. So the Fenix 6s would be what I'd go for because oi do prefer the smaller size.
I can get "mates rates" from a local shop due to being a healthcare worker. It works out about 30% off usual retail price. They don't have this shop where I live but do have it in Wellington, hence temptation. I don't need it, my vivoactive 4s is still going strong. But chance on new toy is very tempting. And I'll get a good resale on My vivoactive.
I'll just hold off then. Wait for the new models to come out.5 -
Sorry I haven't logged in to say hi and check on everyone. By the time I'm done working I'm beat and work is trying to kill me. ha ha
I'm going back to read the thread, but it looks like you all have been busy!9 -
So just back from my day-before-the-race run. Hal said 6.5k recovery run. @ContraryMaryMary suggested a warm up, 20 mins at race pace then cool down. So I combined the two. I did a 1k warm up, 4k at around 5:55 min/k the 1.5k cool down.
It was wonderful! Legs felt great. It took about 3k to settle down into the pace, then it just felt like a natural rhythm. I was disappointed to turn around and go slower. Though I realised that's also a good strategy. I have in mind to try for negative splits, so first 5k at 6:10, next 5 at 6:00, next 5 at 5:50 then final 6.1k at the pace I feel like going. Realistically though I can see me going 5:30 for a couple of km, slowing for the next 10 to closer to 6:00 then speeding up for the last bit, mostly due to excitement and race.
Will see. Goal is to complete. I am NOT aiming for a sub 2hr yet, as much as I think i could actually do it. Im confident now that I'll definitely be able to sub 2hrs in July's run.
Weather tomorrow is supposed to be the same as today, slightly overcast with breezes up to 35km/hr. If its the same tomorrow as now, I'll be pumped. I hate the wind haha.
Just had breakfast, toast with honey, juice, and cereal. Lunch will be rice. And dinner probably more rice haha. Just like yesterday.
Adding, I'm surprised by my HR zones today, I expected way higher given I was pushing race pace. Yay!6 -
@Tramboman Tomorrow, tomorrow, there's always tomorrow..... I hope things clear up a bit and you can get outside tomorrow. You're doing great trudging on the treadmill.

We had a dusting of snow again this morning. Not enough to change any plans. So, I drove to town! It's a big deal when I haven't been able to do that for 6 weeks! I did a few things and got a hair cut. I feel so much better now. Even though I slept better in my bed last night, I was tired when I got home. Instead of giving in and taking a nap, I changed clothes and went to the basement for a treadmill walk. I'm glad I did. I feel better about myself for having done so. Today I did a steady state 3.4 mph pace. Thought I should probably mix it up a little.

Crazy Laps are aptly named since I am crazy enough to do them. I 'lap' my basement, round and round. I use my two stair cases for my 'hills'.

I finally got to run! I was so happy. The sun was shining and it was 42°F feels like 38°. It was 11°F when I got up this morning, but it finally started warming up so after work I was able to get a 4 mile run in. The roads were wet and there were a few slushy spots, but no ice and it wasn't bad. I even took my sleeves off for the last mike which was really nice after being so cold all week. The creek was still frozen so I had to stop and take a picture.
I also saw tons of robins. I didn't take any pictures of the robins. I usually see robins on my runs, but usually just one or maybe two. But lately I have been seeing flocks of them.
It was a great run and I can hardly wait to get back out for another one.
Good luck on your race tomorrow/today @avidkeo!

Cloudy, upper teens F, with a little light snow to go with the light snow we had overnight. Footing wasn't too bad. My ice beard today was almost as good as the one rocked by @rheddmobile. Saw 23 cars and one other runner. Today's highlights were the coo of a mourning dove (they're here all winter, but are just now thinking of mating and nesting) and the trill of a red winged blackbird (they normally don't come back until there's at least some open water, so this one might be early).
When you pop in here claiming your December 2021 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?

Morning all. Hope you are all doing OK.
I'm up, had breakfast. Woke early because of course I did. Going to go catch the train into the city soon, exciting!10 -
I'm excited for you @Avidkeo ! You're going to rock this race!2
-
@Avidkeo have a great race!
@Tramboman I have a yard full of grackles at the moment but I noticed I also have several pairs of red-winged blackbirds. They are the only thing willing to stand up to the grackles. We have them year-round here, but I don’t usually see them at my feeder because I feed the wrong kind of food for them.2 -
Thinking of you @avidkeo, you’re somewhere around half way and I hope it going well.1
