Thanks. My legs are more tired now than they have been after any race in the past year. Good to know my glutes were working 🤣5 -

I’m so far behind on commenting here. Work has been crazy. I’ve stopped even turning my computer off when I leave the office to drive home because as soon as I walk in the door I have to log back on and work more hours. Anywho, I’ve been trying to run early while everyone else is sleeping. I only had time for 5 miles yesterday (in the dark and the rain and by myself) instead of a usual Saturday 10-13 mile group run. Alright, enough pity party!
@quilteryoyo – I don’t pay any attention to the time. Strictly go by mileage but I do like stopping close to a mile mark. Screw Garmin! Sounds like you had a great workout to me!
@ContraryMaryMary – What a beautiful house site! Congratulations on the half! I think 1:53 is super fantastic!
@katharmonic – I’m glad you’re feeling better. It’s crazy how both the virus and the vaccine effect people in different ways. Beautiful pictures but please keep that snow up there!
Congrats on the new job @eleanorhawkins!
Way to go @kgirlhart for getting out of your comfort zone (and house) in those conditions! I think 12F is the coldest that I have ran in and I just don’t know how those of you in Canada, Minnesota, New York, and Wisconsin handle the sub-zero conditions on a regular basis.
Upcoming Races/Challenges:
CRAW (Circumpolar Race Around the World) – in progress
Run the World Challenge – in progress
Desert Storm 218 Miler Challenge (Jan 17 – Feb 28) – in progress
Peyton’s Wild n Wacky 50k (March 13) - canceled
Cooper River 10k (Sept 25)
Marine Corps Marathon (Oct 31) – virtual again???? – deferring to 2022
Cade’s Cove Loop Lope (Nov 14)

Race Report: Fortunately, the weather was not 20 degrees and snowing as predicted a week ago. It ended up being 40 degrees and raining, which isn’t terrible.
The Museum of Aviation 5k/Half/Marathon/Handcycle Race starts at the Museum of Aviation and then goes onto Robins AFB. I was familiar with a lot of the base because my husband used to be stationed there. The course was mostly flat. Got a chance to look at all of the different planes on the flight line, and the course went past the stables, so lots of horses were out grazing.
We waited in our cars until time to start, and then they had us spread out 6ft apart in the grass and pulled us to the start in twos every 15 seconds to go. They told us two days before the race that we’d have to wear masks the entire time racing and not just at the start/finish, but they didn’t really enforce it, so I pulled it down anytime I wasn’t close to anyone. I don’t think I could have managed the whole thing with the mask.
Since it was a new course for me and I had not trained quite as diligently as I have for past races, I didn’t have any thoughts about setting a PR. I didn’t even look at my watch for the first few miles and just ran comfortably. However, when I got to mile 8, I realized my time was looking pretty good, and my mile 10, I knew that I’d probably be able to make it. I finished a little over 3 minutes faster than my prior best half time. No ceremonies with this race, so I promptly went to my car to warm up before driving home.
I’m a little sore today, but nothing out of the norm. I do have a small blister on my right foot due to the wet conditions. Oh well. I think another hot soak in the tub is in order today.

Had just enough snow overnight to make the footing treacherous, so I opted for the treadmill today. Missed my yoga yesterday so got it in today.
Great racing, @ContraryMaryMary, and congratulations on your PR, @marisap2010!!!
And Happy Valentine's Day to everyone on this side of the International Date Line and a belated happy Valentine's Day to those on the far side of the International Date Line.
When you pop in here claiming your December 2021 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?

rheddmobile wrote: »On the subject of cold-weather running, Sunday’s 8k at Stanky Creek for the Winter off-road series was postponed until next Sunday because of the risk of fallen branches due to ice, and forecast extreme cold. Which surprises me because in years past this series has advertised that races will be run in any weather and that’s why it’s called a “Winter” series. But it’s probably for the best since windchill temps are supposed to be subzero and there’s a real risk Memphians who never run in anything similar might just die. Not to mention, if it snows, which it is forecast to start later in the day, the trails which are not visible except because the leaves there are slightly more packed than elsewhere, will become invisible.
Since I was wondering what I was going to do about duplicating the race conditions if I had to run it in the snow on Monday following the race, this nicely solves my conundrum. The new date is supposed to be 51 degrees and so is the day after.
For a live event, I'd be mad if they postponed for this after advertising that they run in all weather. But for virtual, by all means wait and run it in the same conditions as everyone else
Congratulations @marisap2010 and @ContraryMaryMary !!!0 -
Great job on your half @ContraryMaryMary! That's a great time.
That's great news @rheddmobile. 51°sounds just about perfect to me.
Congratulations on your PB at your race! I am glad you were able to slip the mask off when you were alone. I have run with a buff over my face some for warmth, but no matter how cold it is I usually have to take it off after about a mile and a half. Luckily I run alone and rarely see people when I run and if I do staying 6 feet away is no problem.
Part of me wants to run again today, but I don't think I will. It is 15°F feels like 1°F, snowing and 15 mph NNE winds. It's getting colder too. It was kind of fun to get out and run yesterday, but I don't think I really want to go outside today. I honestly would love to have @contrarymarymary 's 20°F. I think that's 68°F. I am certainly willing to trade.3 -

Icy roads this morning so went to the gym for the first time in 11 months. Took a chance that at 5:30 on a Sunday morning it wouldn't be too crowded. For a while, I was the only one there, so that worked out.

Congratulations on your race @ContraryMaryMary! Fantastic time, especially with the humidity and elevation. Well done!
And woo hoo on your HM PR @marisap2010! Fantastic! So glad the weather improved for you. Although cold rain is probably my least favorite thing to run in. Love the medal and glad you were able to run without the mask for most of it.
Good news on the postponement of the winter series for you @rheddmobile, solves your problem and hopefully you have great conditions to do your comparison run.

Not a race, but I did a half today as well for the 2021 HM a month challenge. Although it was cold, I was very happy that we waited until today when it was 22F instead of yesterday's 5F. The windchill was a factor though and I'm sure that brought it down to the teens real feel. We ran the same park we did for last month's because it is plowed and flat. It was lightly snowing this morning and the paved trail was a little slippery in some places but mostly ok. I was not feeling this today and wanted to bail on it pretty badly, but I really didn't want to have to do it another time. Fortunately my two friends that are doing the challenge with me are fun and chatty and kept me going to grind it out. The average pace was 11:12 min/mile which was not as bad as I expected given how slow I felt, and our total time was only 3 minutes slower than our January attempt (when we had NO snow, oddly enough).
I got home and took a hot bath and curled up under blankets. I'm warm now and very happy to have 2 of 12 done!7 -
Very nice HM @ContraryMaryMary! Those hills sound killer.
Way to go @marisap2010 on your monsterous HM PR! That is so impressive.
17F with 15mph (feels like 3F) and blowing snow here in Texas. We've been having rolling blackouts today. But think I will try to get a treadmill run in between.4 -
Congratulations @marisap2010!!0

Well crap. Turns out NZ isn't immune to possible race cancellations. Covid talk in next paragraph. It's Monday morning. Yesterday 3 members of a family in our biggest city tested positive. The government put us all into a lockdown until Wednesday night to give enough time to assess the situation. Which means currently no gatherings of more than 100 people. Race is supposed to happen Sunday. I think we will have a good sense of what will happen tomorrow. Best case scenario, no one else has caught it, and we can come out of lockdown Wednesday night. Worse case scenario, someone else shows up with it, and we are in a form of lockdown for another week.
Atm I'm still going to Wellington and I'm going to run it anyway, I've trained for this and fortunately even at our most strict lockdown I can still do some laps around home, or the river at mums place. We get daily updates at 1pm.11 -

I'm sure you'll be fine @avidkeo, you're only at Level 2 so 'out of Auckland' races should be ok. Fingers crossed this is all over by Thursday. At least you can still send your kids to school/kindy. I'm 2.5 hours into home schooling and have scheduled a very long rollerskating class in the garage!
However, as frustrated and annoyed as I am by being back in lockdown, I am feeling very grateful that my event was yesterday and I was able to enjoy being one of 2000+ runners. Also grateful for yesterday's weather because while it was hot and humid, today we have pouring rain and such steamy weather. I fear I'm going to have to turn the air conditioning on (and I hate air conditioning, but everything is so sticky, feels like I'm in Fiji/Hawaii/some tropical spot but without the pool).
More:Also grateful that I was in the supermarket when the announcement came so was able to pop a few extra things in my trolley (I did wonder why I suddenly went from being one of about six customers to one of goodness knows, 50? 75? 100? People were pouring in as I escaped!) Hubby phoned while I was there with an update and a shopping list. Not that it's a major, as supermarkets are still open, but things do run out when people panic buy and I'd rather not have to queue.7 -
Was planning on getting out for at least an easy 5k around the neighborhood but it is 15F with a wind chill of 1 degree... and somehow simultaneously snowing and RAINING? What fresh hell is this? How does it rain at this temperature? The humidity is 90% and the snow is nicely drifting down at the same time wet raindrops are falling between the snowflakes, pattering, hitting the ground, and freezing. I thought the humidity was supposed to drop when it was this cold?
Anyway that’s a hard nope from me, I am riding my stationary bike.
We are now supposed to get 12 inches tomorrow which if it happens will put us close to the historical record snowfall which is 14.
Last night I saw my little raccoon family that lives in the shed and eats my birdseed that falls from the feeders. They poked their little snoots out, looked at me, looked at the ice, said the heck with this and went back to bed.
I’m just praying the power stays on, since our heater is running constantly and the temp in the bedroom is only 57. If we get a lot of ice, which we are projected to, it’s almost guaranteed we will be without power. The last ice storm it took MLGW THREE WEEKS to restore our power, we had to live in a hotel. Which is not really something I want to do during a pandemic.
So, yeah, done complaining! @ContraryMaryMary you rock! @marisap2010 You rock too! @katharmonic You also rock! @Avidkeo I hope your half isn’t cancelled, is there a chance they would just postpone? @Scott6255 how are you getting netflix with no power? I guess I could watch it on my phone, but it would eat the battery pretty quick...5 -
@Teresa502 I hope your work calms down soon. You are doing great to get out in the conditions you are for your runs. Yeah. I figure Garmin doesn't have a clue. LOL
Congratulations @marisap2010 on your PB! That's awesome. Glad the conditions were better than expected and that you could pull the mask down when you weren't near anyone. I may need to put this race on my list for the future.
@katharmonic Great job on getting out there and running in those conditions when you really didn't feel like it. Glad you had friends who made it tolerable.
@Scott6255 Rolling blackouts doesn't sound good. Hope you were able to get your treadmill run completed. Also hope it warms up sooner than they are expecting.
@rheddmobile Good call to not run in those conditions. I hope they are being overly cautious with the predictions and there isn't that much snow.2 -

Been thinking about you. Damn homeschooling again, they only went back a week ago! Sadly at level 2 they can't run the race because can't have gatherings of more than 100. And I don't get the panic buying either. It's crazy! The queues here for Covid tests are insane. Sigh.
@rheddmobile I think they will postpone. They just put a statement out saying they are planning to go ahead atm with the hope that we go back to level 1 by Sunday. But will update daily.4 -

It was misting rain all day today, so I did another ladder walk on the treadmill. Today, I just did the ladder once, but stayed on each rung for 3 minutes instead of the 2 I did yesterday. This may be my go-to treadmill walk for a while, as it does keep me from getting bored.5 -

I decided that because of the weather instead of my usual long run I was going to do a yoga class that was 108 Sun Salutations. But my husband and I decided to go out and run around the block just so we could say we ran when it was 10°F feels like -6°. I wasn't going to count it, but then I decided I would count it because it was really cold and even though it was short I still went out and did it. Then I did my 108 Sun Salutations. It was 2 hours and 6 minutes of yoga which was my longest yoga session and I think my arms may be sore tomorrow. That was a lot of chatarangas.
Sorry to hear y'all are having the rolling blackouts @scott6255. Glad you were able to get a run in. So far we have been ok here.
@rheddmobile I hope your weather doesn't get worse and I hope you don't lose power.
@avidkeo Fingers crossed that your race isn't cancelled.

@kgirlhart it definitely counts!
It's cold here too, but as I was paying attention to my form, I noticed that since the snow is more packed down and crunchy today, I don't have that slight slip/delay in moving forward with every step as I did last week. Much better for my form and lower back It did take me 6 kilometers to feel warmed up though, at which point I was almost done, haha.
It was pretty and foggy.

Great job getting out for a run @Eaglesfanintn and @polskagirl01 ! Love that train picture.
Great job on the treadmill @Tramboman . I think we are going to miss the storm this time. It's going to be all around us, but we aren't going to get it here in the valley, at least that's what the weatherman said. We may get just a little snow in the morning. We'll see. Stay safe everyone.6 -

Forecast was calling for freezing rain at 7 am turning to snow late morning so I headed out a little after 6 am. I got in almost 2 miles before a light drizzle began. It got a little heavier around mile 4 but had stopped by time I finished up 6 miles. I like to run in a hat when it’s raining to shield my eyes from the rain, but when it’s below 40F (it was 31F), I also need to keep my ears covered with a headband. So after mile one, I looped by my mailbox and stowed the hat in it since it did not want to stay on good over the headband and it wasn’t really raining. Of course I was a couple of miles down the road when the rain did start heavier. When I got back home and stepped on my porch it was icy where the rain had blown in earlier so the temperature definitely dropped while I was out.
@katharmonic – way to go on HM #2! Just think you’ve completed two HM runs in the two worst weather months. For us anyway, March and early April usually yield a few nice days in between the cold ones.
@Avidkeo – Hope things are a go for your HM. I know you have trained so hard and planned every detail.
@quilteryoyo @Scott6255 @Camaramandy648 and others I admire you all for being able to stay on a treadmill so long. It’s a struggle for me to do over 30 minutes. I would rather run crazy laps with @AlphaHowls!
Glad you were careful on the ice @Eaglesfanintn.
Looks cold there @polskagirl01! I hope you stopped and got your medal!
@quilteryoyo – I keep bracing for the weather in Texas and western Tennessee to come our way. It’s so unusual that it goes around us but I’m so glad it is heading that way!

Back on the plan today with a 10k+. Knee started screaming at me on an incline half way through and it hurt to walk, gave it a rub and a whack, walked for around 500 yards until I was back on the flat, started to run and it seemed fine for the second half?
Great run @marisap2010
All of you with your medals made me realise that I got my first medal in November 2019 and haven't had an actual race since then 😒 Congrats to all that have made it to an event somewhere in the last 15 months and I will live my running vicariously through you 😊6 -
Hey hey peeps! I have liked and hugged along the way. Congrats to those racers. Well done! Lots of great times!
The cold! We seem to be escaping the brunt of it surprisingly. But we have had nothing but rain and freezing rain, Temps in the 30's.
But I would be like most of you and not even try!
7.35 on the Tread - last mile was cool down.
Tomorrow is spin day.
Happy Week !6
