@rheddmobile yikes! So glad you weren't injured more than that. I don't have equipment to lift at home other than dumbbells and kettlebells, but that's one reason I don't like to lift by myself outside of working with my trainer.
@kgirlhart that's a crazy range of temperatures over a short span of time. 83 degrees already???

More treadmill warmup before strength training today. If I could just leave the house 5 minutes earlier, I wouldn't have to stop at weird fractions of miles
I have a little song lyric quiz for you that I posted to one of my run club facebook groups where we often post song lyrics modified to be about running or that already mention running. Today I was listening to this song on Spotify and noticed the stanza about running. Anyone recognize it from just this part (song is from early 90s)?
She's running out the door (run)
She's running out
She run, run, run, run,
Run...

@katharmonic Yeah for the nice temperatures and run. Sorry about the skiing and snowshoeing though. Around here, if it is cool enough, the ski slopes make artificial snow. Not ideal, but maybe that will be the case in the mountains where you are so you can at least ski.
@kgirlhart Glad the weather was better for a couple of days and you got in some good runs. The weather really has been extremely unusual this February.
@rheddmobile That's scary. I'm glad you are relatively okay and had a decent run.
@Avidkeo Glad you have recovered well. Sounds like you have a great plan to improve for your next HM! You're going to do great!

Mostly cloudy, lower 30s F, with a wind from the west at about 5 - 10 mph. Was hoping for migratory robins, but didn't see any. Lots of geese, though, as the grass begins to emerge from the snow.

The moon was a beautiful orange ball in the sky when I went out to run this morning. It was 45F but pretty breezy. Made me glad I put a buff around my ears at the last minute before heading out.@quilteryoyo – I’m loving this break in temps that we are having although I struggled running in it yesterday at lunch and it was only 60F here! Your walk streak is inspiring!
A little blurry but I thought the two horses silhouetted against the morning sky was pretty.
@katharmonic – Sorry but I’m not feeling your need for more winter weather! Thankfully we live far enough apart that I can wish it for you and it won’t affect me! I don’t recognize the song though.
Glad you weren’t seriously injured @rheddmobile.

Had a bit of a scare yesterday. My right calf and leg felt really tight, and I'm sure it was bigger than my left. Asked a colleague and DVT came up. I didn't have any pain but had cankles (when you have swelling in your ankles and your calves merge into your feet, no ankles) and just to palate my calf was tight.
Went and asked a sonographer (sometimes working in medicine is a bad thing) and even they were a bit eep. Doing massive activities like a HM then sitting around not moving for 3 days after is a recipe for DVT. I decided to give it overnight since I had no pain. Got home and put my feet up. It felt less swollen by night, and this morning it felt much better. Normal to palpate.
But this mornings run. Omg.
I am scheduled to do 6.5k at race pace. So shoes on, set out. The first 1.5k I thought I was dieing. It was so hard to breathe and I thought I was going to be sick. The idea I had a Pulmonary embolism crossed my mind (DVT can turn into PE). I kept going, reminding myself that often the first couple of km can the the hardest. And sure enough by 2k I was feeling great and the rest of the run I was flying! I'm training my race pace at 5:50/k and I absolutely nailed that pace today.
So no, nothing is wrong with me. But that was still scary. I think i had a lot of oedema from water weight (currently carying about 2kg extra water weight) and the fact its hot atm.

@rheddmobile I’m glad you are okay how scary.
So today was the day, cast off woohoo. Boot on for 2 weeks, then a brace until I see her again in 9 weeks. PT starts Monday. Did take a couple steps without boot ouchie. It felts great to move my ankle and wiggle my toes.
Pictures from today and X-rays. You can’t really see the screws where the ligaments were sewn back on.6 -

Can you get a d dimer? That would at least rule out dvt and it’s cheap and quick. Since dvt can cause intermittent symptoms and it’s too serious to ignore I would really feel better if you ruled it out!

Some of you who were in the deep freeze recently (when So CA was so hot) are now seeing temps way higher than we are. We have the high winds again though.
@rheddmobile - so glad your dh was home and that you are ok for the most part. I don't have any barbells at home, would love to have my own squat rack, and only have dumbbells and kettlebells like @katharmonic
@skippygirlsmom - I bet it felt wonderful to get that cast off! Seems like the healing is going well. Will all the hardware stay in place or does it come out at some point?
@Avidkeo - I have had inflammation after a long run or race but it is usually all over and never in my ankles like that. Sounds a little scary to me!
Had the MRI this morning. Hoping to get some news early next week on diagnosis and plan forward from the ortho. In the meantime more walking and little bits of running if all feels well. This will be a very low mileage month for me as I expected. Hopefully next month will be better!9 -

@Teresa502 I'm loving this weather too. I dread the rain that is coming in. I like the horses too.
@Avidkeo That is scary! Glad you are okay and had a good run, once you got going.
@skippygirlsmom Yeah for the cast coming off and getting to start PT on Monday.

Monthly Total: 51.75/56 miles
It was another beautiful February day: 59°F and sunny. I went for a stroll around noon to the mailbox and in the neighbor's field. I was extremely tired on the way back to the house, so decided to listen to my body and lay down for a while. I had hoped for a nap, but never went to sleep. That must have been what I needed because I felt fine when I got up so I went out for my actual "exercise" walk.
Health and cousin info in the spoiler, if interested.I have had a couple of minor issues related to my surgery this week. I have a weird pain near one of the chest tube sites that comes and goes. I also nearly passed out (at least I think that's what happened) while driving on Monday and noticed that my heart beat was irregular last night. I'm thinking that may be what happened on Monday. So, I called the surgeon's office today and was told to take Motrin for the pain. They told me to make an appointment with my cardiologist for the irregular heartbeat. So, I did, and have an appointment on Tuesday. I'm hoping it's just my body reacting to having my heat messed with and it will go away on it's own.
My cousin had a turn for the better and, if he continues as he is, may get discharged tomorrow.7 -

@quilteryoyo Glad to hear cousin is better. Can you check your pulse rate. Vascular surgery could induce atrial fibrillation-causing an irregular heartbeat and syncope (passing out) if it goes too fast. ? Might avoid driving for awhile?
@skippygirlsmom; hurray for a castless state
@avidkeo: d-dimer is a great idea
@rheddmobile: glad all is well after that episode
*So, my 2021 resolution is to hike/run all 193 (or 195 depending on your source) countries of the world this year. This could be difficult, since I don’t have a passport. But YouTube to the rescue! I have been using the site to take train “trips” recently, and have found them strangely motivating. Why not use Youtube vlogs to hike/run the world (and learn something about each country)?

@shanaber glad you got the MRI done. Hope you'll get some good answers soon!
@skippygirlsmom yay for getting the cast off! Oh your poor foot and ankle. It's healing well though it seems! Weird question but do you feel the hardware in there?
@avidkeo hope everything is ok, that's scary.
And @quilteryoyo - you too! Hope it's nothing but glad you are getting checked out. And I'm happy to hear things are better for your cousin.
Everyone stop having scary symptoms now OK? Hugs and health vibes all around!4 -

I ran 5.25 miles this morning. It was a really good run. It's funny because the morning was not starting off good. I was slow getting up. One if the dogs had peed in my bathroom and a million other little things were slowing me down and making me irritable. But when I got out to run everything just clicked and it wad great. It was chilly compared to yesterday, but not too cold. I really got in the zone on this run. Then throughout the day when something was annoying me I just thought about how great I felt running this morning and it really helped my attitude.
As usual I am behind so I am posting this and will go back and try to read all the post I haven't read yet. Maybe I will catch up on the weekend. 😁

@skippygirlsmom pretty pictures! I expected another screw but it's good they did the medial ligament like that! Very cool.
Hmm never considered a d-dimer. Calf is fine today, and I spent most of it on my feet. So maybe was just too much sitting around. I'll keep an eye on it3 -
Well, I know what band I’ll be listening to on the way to work today! Love me some Radiohead.
@rheddmobile I’m glad you weren’t hurt too bad during your lift. Be careful!
@skippygirlsmom Yay for the cast being off!
@Avidkeo, I’d definitely get checked out to make sure nothing is really wrong.
@shanaber Hope you get good news from the MRI.
@quilteryoyo Take it easy!
Nothing new to report here. Worked late last night and then studied when I got home for a certification I’m trying to obtain. The weather should be nice this weekend, so hopefully I can get out a bit if work isn’t too crazy.2 -
@HonuNui Thank you for the info. I have a blood pressure cuff that I have used, when I'm near it, to check pressure and HR if I feel weird. That really hasn't shown anything that I can tell. A couple of nights ago I checked it manually and could tell it skipped a couple of beats. I am wondering if it is episodes of A-fib. Hopefully the cardiologist will be able to help me figure it out. I'm just glad that, so far, I've had enough "advance notice" that I have been able to sit down or pull off the road and haven't actually passed out.
@kgirlhart Glad you had a great run that was able to help you make it through the trying times of your day!
2 -
@rheddmobile Glad you escaped relatively unscathed. Those barbells can be dangerous without a spotter.
@skippygirlsmom Happy for you getting the cast off and giving your toes a chance to wiggle!
@shanaber wishing you good luck with the MRI results.
@quilteryoyo That sounds scary. Please don't push yourself and I'd say don't drive until you get checked out.
6 treadmill miles this morning. It was raining, thundering, and lightning this morning. Last night we had a bunch of hail. The day before it was 81F. The week before that it was -2F with snow and ice. Here is Texas, we do all four seasons in a week

You're probably getting tired of hearing about my virtual trail race, and you're in luck, because I finally got acceptable-for-me results on the course today and submitted my results.
Clear, sometimes muddy trails meant I was more limited by my own ability to climb the hills, than the footing. My feet were wet and muddy inside my shoes, but it was fine. My buff and headband were off and clipped on my waist pack within the first 100 meters, and the long-sleeved shirt was off and tied around my waist shortly after that. I ran in a tank top and it was warm and I even grabbed some snow a couple times from the side of the trail and put it on my head It's a 7.6 km route, but from the results up so far looks comparable to times those same people would probably do on a normal road 10k. I got in under an hour, which was my goal, so I'm happy with it. Even though I'm currently the last-place female11 -

Sunny, upper 20s F, with a Mary Poppins-like wind from the southeast. All the snowmelt from yesterday had frozen overnight on the edges of the roads, so footing was a little tricky in spots today.

It's supposed to start raining around noon today, so I got out early, for me lately, to get my walk in. I backtracked and walked all of the hills in my neighbor's fields today. I just wasn't in the mood to do driveway laps. When I started out, I intended to only do one mile and then walk on the treadmill later. But, I was feeling good and the weather wasn't too bad, so I just went ahead and got it done.6 -
@quilteryoyo Glad your cousin is getting better. I hope you get some answers on Monday. Keeping you in my prayers.
@katharmonic it’s funny because I said to my friend when the cast was on “seriously the hardware it popping out or at least it feels like that” ha ha. The area around both incisions is numb feeling when I touch them, I don’t feel like anything strange feeling in my ankle so nothing feels weird, but my ankle is very stiff.
@Avidkeo my friend looked at the xray (she’s a doctor though not an ortho but she stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night ha ha – she actually did an ortho rotation in med school) and she said there might be more screws on the inside I can’t see just based on the angle of the xray. The doctor did say “screws” when she explained what they did to reconnect the ligaments, but I’m not sure. We did laugh over the one screw by the plate that looks like it’s floating around, I said that must be the ones she dropped during surgery.
Thanks for sharing in my happy cast off everyone.
@polskagirl01 that trail looks so nice to ran on. Yay for being under an hour!
Speaking of weather, it was so beautiful here all week, I couldn’t wait to get our and walk my puppies who probably have forgotten what walking is, of course today and the next few days rain rain rain.

@skippygirlsmom I'm sorry you got hurt, but it's really cool how they fixed you up. I hope the healing process continues well so you can be back to running as much as you want.
Alright, everyone with weird symptoms can stop it now! Be safe and healthy!3
