Less Alcohol ~ AUGUST 2021 ~ One Day At A Time

DH & I shared a single bottle of Petit Chablis with the Salmon with Roasted Red Pepper Quinoa Salad.
We had our physicals a week ago Friday and his doctor called wanting a follow up liver scan next week due to high bilirubin lab results. We will see. July DH was AF 1 night. Tues night he was AF for the first time in Aug. Wed he got the call and drank 2 bottles of wine. Thurs night he was AF. Fri he split a single bottle with me and did not drink more wine or bourbon afterward. Maybe this has triggered him to join me in less alcohol. TBD
We watched a wonderful movie called CODA on Apple TV (Apple original). I hear it will be in theaters too. The film was the first in Sundance Film Festival history to win all top prizes in the US Dramatic Competition category. Definitely heart wrenching and feel good at the same time.
August accountability: 9/30 days AF
Alcohol: 4 days (9 drinks)
Goal: Limit 1-2 glasses per day; 12-16 AF days per month. Aim to drink no more than 2 nights in a row.

You folks did amazingly well this week..! I was solid all week but not AF Friday night
. I started drinking my husband's nasty beer last night, only two but I feel fat and puffy today. Stupid move. Brain tired from work all week and just wasn't thinking
@MissMay I so love your sense of humor...
@Lilylady3k I'll check out your movie recommendation and...wishing strength and better health for your husband. He can do it.
@dawnbgethealthy Your forest and lake are still outstanding, I like how you focus on the bright side of things.
Today for me will be the last day of eating debauchery (pizza and ice cream party) before I really, really buckle down tight in preparation for my physical. Today the plan is Haagen Daaz vanilla ice cream with cognac or something like that on top. No wine for me....if I buy the bottle, I will drink it so just better all around it be kept far away from my reach7 -
Second week AF going for sober month.11

I stuck to my wine plan last night but way overate nuts after dinner. Normally a kitchen-is-closed after dinner kind of gal, I'm wondering what is going on with me! So hungry this week!6

@tmbg1 I have to confess I read this super fast and almost slid off my chair Aug 10 wine. LOL I'm not judging. At first glance I thought dang that @tmbg1 , she can hold her own with the wine.
Now, contacts in eyes I see 10, was the date.7 -

After almost 3 years of the "try to quit/pick up a drink/drive my life into a ditch/try to quit" cycle, I've now got 9 years, 7 months, 12 days, 9 hours of sobriety.
Life's never been better. Gone from 237 lbs to 159 lbs over those years as well. You hear it all the time, but comparing my life now to where I was back then, it's like I'm remembering a completely different person.
One day at a time, people. One day at a time.
Congratulations on becoming a better YOU with both weight loss and booze loss. Great accomplishment.5 -
This is the positive motivation that the MYDRINKAWARE app gives me
☆~You consumed 6.9 units (826 cals) less than this time last Month~☆7 -
Doing so much better last two days with tracking. Tonight was one High Noon at a party, and a 3-4 oz glass to try an awesome rosé my son bought.
Great day. After a slow start, my son and I ran a bunch of errands, played some tennis, hopped in the pool at the club, and did flips off the diving board! It was scary but I did it- it has been a few years since my last attempt. But my old gymnastics training came right back to me. Meanwhile my son, who has never done a backflip in his life, nailed it on the first attempt. He also is really good at backing up the boat trailer with no problem, while I am a spaz with it! Ah, youth.7 -
Aug 1: A
Aug 2-5: AF
Aug 6: A
Aug 7-12: AF
Aug 13: AF!!!! I didn't go out so I just avoided temptation.
Aug 14: day 8 AF period.
Real thirsty tonight. ALMOST gave in and decided on stress eating (which can turn into a bottomless pit) and drinking a (potentially bottomless) glass of wine, but held on by the short and skinnies.
Bubly blackberry, a dill pickle, and some stress relief (honey lavender) tea got me through the snack and alcohol cravings. Phew.
Good luck to all on their goals!8 -
August goal - at least 2 AF days for every 1 drinking day (So 21 AF and 10 drinks days max). On the drinks days I plan to have no more than 2.
First 2 weeks of August
8/1 - 8/14 8 AF, 6 drinking days
Week 3
8/15 Drinks (3)
Time to rack up some AF days!6 -
I am continuing with my usual goal, 16-20 AF days for the month, diary style
Sunday Aug 01 - Drinks, planned drinks day - 2 1/2 drinks. Thursday is my next planned drinks day.
Monday Aug 02 - AF
Tuesday Aug 03 - AF
Wednesday Aug 04 - AF - Planned drinks tomorrow night after work
Thursday Aug 05 - 2 drinks
Friday Aug 06 - 2 drinks
Saturday Aug 07 - Drinks - I had planned to be AF, and then my schedule got changed and I am off tomorrow, so going to have a couple tonight.
Sunday Aug 08 - AF - I get off at 3 on Wednesday and don't go back to work until 5pm on Saturday. Planning drinks for a couple of those days. Haven't even had Mojitos yet this year and the Mint is so perfect right now. That might be on the agenda.
Monday Aug 09 - AF - Surprise double/split shift. Very tired.
Tuesday Aug 10 - AF - I will be having drinks on my days off, and finally will have the time to go to a lake or even a motel with a pool. This could be the last few hot days of the season, I was working too much to enjoy the hot weather prior to this. Very excited about getting a few days off. I know that I still want at least 10 more AF days this month.
Wednesday Aug 11 - Mojitos with a friend out of the mint that I grow, the first of the season. Planned drinks again for Thursday.
Thursday Aug 12 - Drinks on my porch after getting back from the lake. AF planned for Friday
Friday Aug 13 - Drinks. Friday the 13th!! I had intentions to be AF, but just wasn't. Had an awesome day at another lake. Photos to come.
Friday Aug 13 - AF - I am at about 50% this month so far, kind of like last month where it was top-loaded with drinks days.
Rolling total: 7AF days out of 14 days5 -
Friday's lake photos. This lake has a few cabins on it. It is called Monroe Lake.
Quite smoky, but I sort of felt that laying on my floatie so close to the water that the air felt a smidge less smoky.
There were some people there when I arrived, paddleboards, kayaks and stuff. I paddled out.
The side where the cabins are:
My ride : - )
Camping is no longer offered at this place, it is day use only now. I camped in this exact spot years before I even moved to the area. No wonder I decided to move here!

2 open bottles of wine for dinner for 4 of us starting around 5pm. I decided to wait until we sat down for dinner at 6:30 before pouring myself a glass. 1 glass for the evening.
August accountability: 9/15 days AF
Alcohol: 5 days (10 drinks)
While @dawnbgethealthy said she is top-loaded heavy in the month with drinking days this time around but I know she'll do well toward her 16 AF goal.
I front loaded up on AF days knowing that starting tomorrow I have many social situations. I have a plan and we'll see how well I execute it. I'm striving for the high end of my goal this month of 16 instead of just settling for 12 days. Also trying to keep the number of drinks to <= 2x drinking days (meaning last night I drank only 1 to make up for one night where I had 3).
Goal: Limit 1-2 glasses per day; 12-16 AF days per month. Aim to drink no more than 2 nights in a row.
Planned M-Th evenings at restaurants with friends. This plan is ambitious. In the past I would have had 2-4 drinks on each occasion Mon-Sat before the pandemic during the 3rd week of the month. We'll see how well I hold out and if I've been able to change my mindset around my friends & daughter when they ask if I want to split a bottle at the restaurant.
8/15 - AF
All my social groups are ditching Zoom and moving into their face to face events which means the 3rd week of each month will again be challenging from both a food & drink perspective.
8/16 - AF - Book Club
8/17 - 1 wine - ZTA Houston Area Alumnae Kickoff (if I skip the wine here then I could enjoy it at book club Wed night and still hit my no more than 2 nights in a row target... depends on how strong willed I am I guess.)
8/18 - AF - ZTA Book Club (really challenging since my daughter is also a Zeta and attends bookclub and we usually split a bottle of wine).
8/19 - 2 wine - Well Done Cooking Class - Espana Date Night w/ friends (not sure how many bottles of wine DH or our friends are bringing ... this is BYOB. BUT DH has his liver scan Thurs morning so curious what his mood will be then)
8/20 - AF TGIF
8/21 - 2 wine
8/22 - AF

@dawnbgethealthy - beautiful peaceful pictures but I can image that the smoke is bothersome since it has not dispersed. Take care and enjoy the rest of your summer.5

Didn't make 4 AF in a row. Drank 4 glasses of wine last night and feel extremely icky this morning. I drank because I was mad at my spouse which really is a stupid reason to set myself up for a crappy morning. Articulating that here makes it real that I am an emotional drinker. Ugh.11

Love the photos, everyone! Good job stopping at one, @Lilylady3k. @Womona I feel everything related to boat trailering is terrifying. It’s nice having a partner in crime who doesn’t mind. What a crazy fun day you had! @tmbg1 I have been there. The last time I realized I was drinking in anger, I decided I really don’t want to be an angry drunk and have not had the urge to drink in anger since then. I’ve had the urge plenty, but not as a response to anger. Baby steps.
Had a fantastic time at the wedding. It was beautiful. Saw tons of people haven’t seen since our kids were in grade school. Hope I didn’t get covid (no one taking precautions). Stuck to my drink plan but ate more than planned. Again. Seated dinner with desert... then wedding cake. After dessert. They plated 3 cakes on each plate- wedding, groom’s AND a strawberry birthday cake for the groom. Is that a thing now— dessert then cake?
Also, TMI alert, I started a period today. After 1 year, 2 months and 9 days without one. I really thought I was past this. 😕. Discouraged. Maybe related to unusual hunger past couple days? I dunno. Anyone hear of this happening to anyone else?4 -
I am baaaack LOL
I was not AF on our little 3 day road trip. But when we did drink it really was in moderation. 2 shots of brandy both nights so I am not hurt by this.
We really did have a very relaxing time. On Saturday we drove to this little tourist town on the Puget Sound. They also have the annual tulip festival in this area. ( https://lovelaconner.com/skagit-valley-tulip-festival-2021/ ) See the Pictures. We may plan a trip next year to go see this again. It had been years since we went up for the festival.
Walked up and down the main street, stopped in some local art galleries and talked with the owner/artists. Great networking for me. I am going to reach out to one of them who also has a studio about an hour from my house. They way we were chatting I may be able to use some of her wall space (?) We will see.
Saturday night we went to "the raceway" and watched these little cars with spoilers on them race on a dirt track...wow they go fast and are aggressive when going around the curves. I mean they literally went sideways! how they kept from rolling was beyond me.
The drive home today was uneventful and now that I am home I am going to relax, have an ice cold water then think about a few moctails for this evening. I really need to make some more kombuca. The tea is ready for the flavor part so I need to get on it before it turns to vinegar.
OH my to all these photo's of the water! And here I was out enjoying my views and did not take a single picture. Am I jealous ....yes I am.

@ahoy_m8 - Hmmmmm that is a long time for . to reappear. Maybe the sugar from dessert & cake?

I have had an aha moment today. I knew that I could add different meals, snacks but it NEVER occurred to me until today to use one of those slots for alcohol consumed. Now I will easily see how many of my daily/ weekly calories are from alcohol.10

Out of curiosity...what was the pre-cake dessert? I really can't imagine what would get me ready for cake after a full meal. Strawberries maybe? Anyway, good job sticking to your drinking plan. Never easy at a big event.
@Womona I bought a trailer, played around in a parking lot, drove to my place and backed it, drove across the country....then ended up needing two different guys help backing it in the parking garage of my apartment...I hate that. I'm a mechanical engineer, drive/race/overland, and very self sufficient. Felt like such an idiot, but the boys didn't mind lol.6 -
August goal - at least 2 AF days for every 1 drinking day (So 21 AF and 10 drinks days max). On the drinks days I plan to have no more than 2.

Aug 14: day 8 AF. Really hard day, but I managed.
Aug 15: day 9 AF. Not thirsty at all today!!! Mom seems to be doing well in A-rehab. Studied all day for my big interview coming up. Engineering equations are coming out of my ears lol10 -
@ahoy_m8
Usually you are in the clear if 12 months go by! Maybe it is the last little bit vacating. Let's hope so.
And yes, i really hope that you didn't get Covid!5 -
I am continuing with my usual goal, 16-20 AF days for the month, diary style
Friday Aug 13 - Drinks. Friday the 13th!! I had intentions to be AF, but just wasn't. Had an awesome day at another lake. Photos to come.
Saturday Aug 14 - AF - I am at about 50% this month so far, kind of like last month where it was top-loaded with drinks days.
Sunday Aug 15 - AF - Schedule change and I have the day off tomorrow - this sometimes signals that it would be a good time to have drinks. I think that with working as much as i did all through the spring when days off didn't exist, I became very self-indulgent once they appeared and I knew that I actually had the next day off. Still a good idea for me not to drink if I have work the next day. Refrained today, more for my waistline than any other reason : - )
Rolling total: 8AF days out of 15 days3 -
@lmlmrn
Thank you for the link to Skagit. Beautiful! I was thinking that it is way too late in the season for tulips, but of course as I read down I see that it is April 10th.
Quite an undertaking. Such a positive light.
I thought that you were in Washington, then was confused that you had art hanging in Maine. You go girl!2
