Most here would agree that the SAD is KILLING everyone who eats this way.
Why SAD? 4 factors:
1. Cheap
2. Tasty
3. Scalable
4. Portable
ALL good diets are RESTRICITVE of either FOOD a/o TIME.
All FOOD restrictive diets are FAR better than SAD. E.g. Vegan, keto, low calorie, low fat, high fat, etc. This is where the silly RELIGIOUS wars occur.
When food type restriction is not enough (99% of diets fail) one should restrict TIME. Time restriction CAN work even while eating SAD.
The old school word for "time restrictive eating" is FASTING.
1. Pick the FOOD restricting diet that YOU like.
2. Learn and use FASTING if #1 not enough.

what are you going on about now?
why restrict ANY food, unless you have a medical reason to do so (diabetes, high blood pressure, kidney failure, etc)
I've lost almost 200 pounds now, eating pretty much anything I want to. Just by counting calories. Learning how much to eat. Becoming more active. you know .... eat less. move more. ive had a reeses peanut butter cup the past 3 nights in a row. in bed. right before i went to sleep. the horror.
and my bloodwork/labs? Checked every month due to meds I'm on.
textbook perfect blood pressure. glucose. cholesterol. nutrients. electrolytes.
or am i cranky and just not understanding your post? i hope so. if so, im sorry. maybe i need a peanut butter cup LOL19 -
okay, so after re-reading it, like 5 times, and realizing my husband took the last peanut butter cup (the *kitten*) i think I get what youre saying
youre a fan of IF
okay.
but all it is, is a way to restrict caloric intake.
Like all of the other diets you mentioned (and some of those can have benefits if you have medical needs that require them ie diabetics).
beyond that, it has no magical properties.
But if it works for you, go for it. I'm certainly not against it. Wouldnt be for me, but no structured diet or time limit would be. I could fit a ridiculous number of calories in even just a couple of hours if left to my own devices LOL12 -
What??????4

So, just a random, "Keep doing what you're doing."
Okay.
Thank you.

If it's in CAPITAL letters it must be TRUE!
(Or an acronym.....)

I was at a family dinner last night and have lost @ 25 pounds since I saw some of them. My cousin asked me how I lost weight and I said "Eating less."
Everyone laughed, presumably because it is so true, but media has conditioned us to expect an answer like vegan, keto, low fat, high fat, or IF.
My other cousin said that every time he tries to lose weight he gets so hungry. So then I talked about satiety, and macros, and the importance of find the right macro balance that helps a particular person stay in a calorie deficit.

I'm a little confused because you say that the SAD is KILLING people!
And then you say, well okay, you can eat that way as long as you combine it with fasting. Which is it? It's either KILLING us or not, regardless of when we eat.
I don't understand the fixation on the Standard American Diet...I'm not even sure what that means anymore. It seems to be an over-generalization about all Americans eating tons of sugar and fast food all the time. I know some do, but honestly every person I know has a different way of eating...nothing "standard" about it, and certainly not meeting the description that you are implying.
I really think we need to retire that term. It's very outdated. We're a diverse country...there's no such thing as a "Standard American", much less a Standard American Diet.20 -
You just made my point. Thank you.
"I've lost almost 200 pounds now, eating pretty much anything I want to. Just by counting calories."
No, that's not what you said. It may've been what you meant, but if so, it was not at all clear.
You said (quoting a relevant part, my bolding):All FOOD restrictive diets are FAR better than SAD. E.g. Vegan, keto, low calorie, low fat, high fat, etc. This is where the silly RELIGIOUS wars occur.

Food *type* restriction, or the named diets in the paragraph above what I bolded, are not synonymous with calorie counting.
I lost weight eating the same food *types* I did when obese, and maintain the same way. Yes, I restrict portions, proportions or frequencies of some foods to manage calories . . . but not types.
There have been party-trick-type n=1 experiments where people have intentionally lost weight literally eating versions of SAD, AFAIK without TRE. I wouldn't care to do that personally, but I didn't get fat eating SAD, either. Eating some version of SAD, in theory, is not incompatible with weight management, with or without TRE. (As a practical matter, I think it has limitations for weight management for many people, TRE or not.)
Note: I have nothing against TRE, for people whom it benefits. I have nothing against any way of eating anyone chooses that's generally compatible with adequate overall nutrition and reasonable health.
I'm not going to make a case that SAD is good for health. That's partly because SAD is a stereotype, a cartoon - not a thing that can be pinned down enough to have a rational discussion about. SAD's sort of the opposite to "eating clean" . . . both such squishy constructs that they're not worth trying to prove or disprove propositions about, with *a lot* of clarification.6 -

I'm just glad I am not alone in my confusion cause I'm still over here wishing I had a peanut butter cup.
string cheese had to suffice.SuzySunshine99 wrote: »there's no such thing as a "Standard American".

i got nuthin banxie boy. want some sting cheese?
or is that not real food too? I mean, we do live on a farm. Technically i COULD make my own cheese. Well, not right now. I dont have any goats that are lactating and even when we have cattle, they're beef cattle and not dairy cattle, but babies happen on occasion but the milk isn't really human dairy quality, you know? Was it Wendys or Burger King that had the commercial 'Where's the Beef'? Now I want a hamburger. I'm only at 601 calories for today. That probably explains a lot.

I cheese.
And burgers.
Cheeseburgers?
Add bacon and let's do this thing.6 -
Any way of eating can work...you just have to control the calories.
If fasting works to help control your calories, then great. But it's not necessary, no matter what kind of food you want to eat. The timing of eating your food does not matter at all to weight loss.7 -
I’m just curious how long @kshama2001’s kinfolk lasted before they shut her down.
I bet mine hold the record, though.4 -

i don know, i was busy pre logging a bacon cheeseburger for dinner tomorrow LOL5 -
Speaking of peanut butter cups, I need my supermarket to bring back the SINGLE package with DARK chocolate. All I can get locally is PACKAGES of dark chocolate THINS, which don't have the right chocolate to peanut butter ratio, and have too many calories per package.
I was eyeing all the Halloween peanut butter cups, and none of them were dark chocolate8 -
So…. Are you no longer doing extremely low carb now?
I’m confused…. 🤣4
