My husband is dealing with some physical and mental health issues right now. It is so difficult to watch because he is a very high achiever running a successful growing company, chairing boards, etc. I considered having a drink late this afternoon, but instead decided I need to stay cleared headed and take charge to help him work through this. I am glad I had 30 days under my belt or I may have caved. (He doesn't drink alcohol so I would be drinking alone.)
On the bright side I convinced him he needs to step back from things and take care of himself so we are heading back to AZ on Saturday. The sunshine and warmth goes a long ways in aiding in healing the body, mind and soul.
As someone who has been the very high achieving professional who has had to step back because of health issues, I SO respect your decision not to drink.
My spouse has been a rock through my struggles and if he had turned to drinking to cope, I would have felt much more alone in what i have dealt with. Instead he's been so present, it's made a huge difference for me.4 -
Dydd Santes Dwynwen Hapus - Happy St Dwynwen's Day!
(Welsh equivalent of Valentines)
It's also Burns Night.
I'm half Welsh, half Scottish. So have had wine, although not overdone it. Aiming for AF tomorrow and will add running total then xx6 -
This was a fantastic read in Travel & Leisure February 2022, here is a snippet

Posting for accountability. 32nd consecutive day AF.
12/25 - 12/31 AF
1/1 - 1/25 AF
My thoughts on wanting to have a drink in the evening have definitely dwindled. Most days it isn't even a consideration anymore. I know at some point I will likely drink again, but until there is a good reason to do so (social event, etc) I am going to try to continue to abstain.
Thank you for your support and helping hold me accountable by sharing your own journeys, triumphs and struggles!

Hello to everyone, I have been mostly lurking lately so forgive my lack of personals.
I had a few beers over the weekend when we had a meal out. Then for some reason last night I jumped right into a glass of whiskey or two. The why I did this? I am still baffled, but I am sure I will sort it out.
Anyway I am sorry to read about those of you under the weather but thank you for being cautious about not spreading any more germs. I have am truly thankful I have not had any symptoms.
The socks will pop back in soon, I hear the Mr. or was it the Mrs. that got a new hat?7 -
My usual goal, 16-20 AF days per month.
My schedule pretty much dictates my AF days.
I will be AF on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays for the next few months.
Diary style is how I keep track
Sunday Jan 23rd - AF - Skating in the morning before work : - )
Monday Jan 24th - AF - I have a very light day tomorrow, so considered having a drink, but my tummy will be much leaner in the morning if I don't. Counted my "lunges" while skating. 70 per minute and I skated for 60 minutes. 4200 lunges?
Tuesday Jan 25th - AF - Skating tomorrow, and I am having a very busy work week, so AF. I might have drinks tomorrow.
Rolling total: 15AF days out of 25 days.4 -
@dawnbgethealthy 'Counted my "lunges" while skating. 70 per minute and I skated for 60 minutes. 4200 lunges?"
That is amazing! YOU GO GIRL!
@GiveHerGrace you and I are on the same AF number. I love your thinking about staying AF until there is good reason and not because it is habit or triggered. And even though you have gone more than a month without, your brain has not tricked you by offering the reward of drinking. Congrats
@lmlmrn I so need the sock family to come visit me and give me inspiration. I also saw a new "hat" in my kitchen the other day that I thought would work. Orange juicer lid 😁👍.
Hope you get back on to your even keel soon.
My accountability:
AF January 25/25
32 day streak since Dec 256 -
FINALLY starting to move the needle on racking up AF days - 19 AF out of 25 days. I was stalled for awhile there. People tell me "don't you know Mercury is in retrograde and this is supposed to block your progess" and everything you try to do is a struggle?" "Huh"? I did not know about this and then googled it. It's interesting but I don't think I can fully blame the planets just yet
Energy is back and my head is on straight. Ah if only every day in my like I could feel sharp, relaxed and in control!
Back in training for a half marathon mode - today is planned 1 hr 15 min run. Let's do this, I say.5 -
Thanks for all the well wishes! I am fatigued from working 9 hours Monday and playing tennis yesterday. Holy cow the post-Covid fatigue is real! Didn’t help that I had two glasses of wine last night. Going to be AF today.
Tomorrow is book club but I am going to nurse my one glass of wine. My tolerance is way down. I need to be a le to drive home!4 -
Sorry for the typos there-I misplaced my glasses last night and too blind to find them!3

Checking in. Donated blood today so no plans to drink. That is one way to head off happy hour!

Covid and home schooling have got the better of me, but had I not been checking in here, I'd quite probably only have had 4 AF days by now. I'm learning a lot about myself, and actually thinking before drinking, which is new.
Still a few days to go, but I'm liking the idea of using LilyLady's goals for myself going forward.7 -

I remember reading years ago that there is something about the artificial sweeteners that are as addictive as street drugs. Something about hijacking dopamine receptors. Great. So no wonder you’re struggling! It’s not something you can quit cold turkey, you can get withdraw symptoms. Instead just cut down- maybe pour 3/4 of the can and top off with seltzer to keep the fizz. Then titrate down to half a can after a week or so until you’ve removed diet soda from your diet. Good luck!3 -
Had one glass of wine last night, glad I didn’t pour the second! But the leftover beef lo Mein was a big carby mistake. Delicious though!!! I’m getting my appetite back, but didn’t make good food choices for dinner because we need to go to the market. Usually my husband cooks meat and veggies and that will last as leftovers for a few days. He’s on a business trip, leftovers are gone, nothing is defrosted and I’ve been coming home way to late to start a proper dinner. Thank God that man likes to cook or is be eating cold cereal for dinner every night!!! I like to clean and wash dishes so it works out!
Frost in the lawn today is really pretty glistening in the sun. Must bundle up today!6 -

Planned on making one of my favorite dishes last night for dinner. Eggs are NOT just for breakfast.
So I combined two famous chef recipes to make eggs benedict. I liked the technique for the poached Eggs in the one recipe and liked the added guacamole in the other chefs recipe.
So moving right along, trying to time everything perfectly...I look over and my sauce had broken. And I have just cracked my last eggs to make the poached.
In the past, I probably would have immediately opened the cupboard or frig to see if possibly the answer to the broken sauce was in a drink or two. Proud to say I Googled the problem at that moment and brought my sauce back to smoothness and saved the dinner.
WIN WIN and yummy Eggs benny.

The times, they are a changin'
Reese Witherspoon posted something about new healthy habits she was looking forward to integrating into her lifestyle, and Ina Garten tried to be clever and responded that instead that she's going to drink more and continue doing unhealthy things because it's a pandemic and she's stressed, and that's the best she can do. I get the concept of backlash against toxic positivity and toxic self improvement, but she seems to have missed a culturally memo about promoting drinking.
Well, Martha Stewart was having none of it and clapped back against recommending that people drink more in response to pandemic stress.
The era of glorifying drinking is rapidly coming to an end. We are seeing in real time the demise of stress drinking being a cool thing to brag about. I think we will see a sharp increase of this type of critical comment in social media in response to celebrities talking about booze, especially female celebrities.
The pandemic has created such an increase in problem drinking that it is also acting as a catalyst to rapidly speed up the cultural backlash against alcohol.
It's certainly an interesting thing to watch.4 -
@Xellercin going to have to check that out. Wow I would have never excepted that remark out of Ina. I mean I know her and her man enjoy Naples, but still don't put the blame on something like that.
Thanks for the info
