WOW! It never takes me that long to log all my food, vitamins, water, exercise. I have been logging in for 577 days straight now here too. It isn't going to be perfect. Just do the best you can is what I view it as when logging foods. If the calorie count is off a bit it really won't matter will it?
I love MFP and so glad I found it Feb 2012!

I like this site, I really do....However, I just don't have the time it takes to wade though all of the wrong food entries just to find the one that matches what I have in my hand. It should NOT take 30 to 60 minutes to log each meal!
You really like the site.....but you're leaving over wrong food entries?

I have to agree with the others - if it takes you that long to log a meal, you are doin' it wrong!

Just logged my 730th straight day this morning - 2 solid years of logging my meals, and not once has it every taken me 30-60 minutes to log a meal, even with creating a new recipe or entering new foods.

    :drinker:

???? it only takes me like two minutes to log all the meals for the day!!!! Unless you're eating something that's weird and not easily found in stores. It is more than simple!!!

It should NOT take 30 to 60 minutes to log each meal! It's just plain ridiculous, can people not read what's in front of them?!! How can there be 10 - 15 entries for the same exact item?? So I am off to hopefully find something else, maybe I'll just spend the money of a site that can keep a better nutrition chart, if there is one out there. If not then it just may be faster to make my own, at least then I'll know it's right.

    Good luck everyone!
ok bye but why weren't you entering your own food and then tagging them with your initials making them easier to find in the food chart ... :noway:

Actually I HATE it that people like you feel the need to save personal food/recipes in the database. Please stop. Keep them to yourself. That does make searching more difficult.

There are indeed very stupid mistakes in the database (sometimes by members who are delusional) but it's not that hard to catch them. If you see an 8 oz ribeye steak for 150 calories, you just need to contemplate that for one second. Is it real? Sound too good to be true? Then it is; look for another entry that is accurate. When starting out, it takes a little longer (and some of us don't eat processed food so "scanning" isn't an option) to find the foods, but it certainly doesn't take an hour per day.

I have to admit that recipes take awhile and if it's easier to just enter the ingredients separately in my daily log than create a recipe, that's what I do. Nothing on MFP is "hard" and it's awesome that we have this site offered to us for free. I love it here.

Thanks for announcing your departure, though. Good luck.

    OP is still active...

Op might have just left it active... you know because it takes so long to deactivate an account on here...

I think I am going to deactivate because it is taking too long to deactivate

It's all just so much to deal with.

The thinking about deactivating, the planning to deactivate, the posting about deactivating . . . whew!

I'm *yawn, stretch* tired just thinking about it.

    Nap time.

dude, deactivation is seriously hard work...

Leave the lights on and just close the door on the way out. Hand your key in at reception and the movie will not show up on your bill.

This made me giggle...sorry, it's the little things
  • So long! Farewell! Auf Viedersehn! Adieu!

Adieu! Adieu! To you and you and you!!!

^This. I don't know why you felt the need to set up a forums about this...

Even on my cellular / tablet, it rarely takes more than a few minuets. The worst I'm hitting into is no new recipes I make on my phone or tablet are NOT uploading via sync. I still have (2) unsynced events (both dinners I made) that refuse to upload no matter what I do. BUT if I go online, the recipe maker works fine.

I pre log my meals on the days I work. It takes me all of two or three minutes. Plus if you have a smart phone you can scan the bar code on many items.

This is pretty much word-for-word what I was going to say, haha! I love pre-logging my meals on work days because then I know at the end of the work day, how many calories I have left for dinner. And I REALLY love the bar code scanner.

It definitely doesn't take me 30 minutes, but the endless repetition of entries IS annoying.

What's possibly more annoying is the inconsistencies in measurements based on which option you choose. For ex., some entries ONLY list serving sizes by grams, which I find really annoying. If I click on one of those, I usually have to go back and find one that allows me to do a serving size based in ounces, or tablespoons, cups, etc. It would be nice if they could be consolidated.

But yeah, despite the multiple clicking, it only takes me a few minutes to do each meal.
  • OK...I checked her diary...I guess it is so hard to log that she hasn't in the last 2 weeks. I'd find it pretty tough if I didn't try too...
  • Why don't you just scan the food's barcode and enter it that way? Takes about 15 seconds that way.

Since you have joined, I am sure you are eating many of the same foods. Therefore, they are listed under the tab "frequent foods" and definitely under "recent foods". Why do you need to look them up? Also you can "save meals" that you eat frequently and just put a check in the box.

If you want to leave, then good luck. This is just an excuse because there are so many ways to log in foods if they are the brands you have in your house. Enjoy spending money because you will still need to look up foods.

LOL, maybe she'll find an app that can read her mind and log her food in that way? She doesn't have a single logged entry!!! Really, she's not even trying to log.

Not sure why it is taking you so long to log your entires. Sorry that you did not have a good experience with site. Personally, this is the first logging system that has worked for me. Good luck to you! :flowerforyou:

There are people all over the planet using this site and so their measurements may vary. A package of Coca Cola in Canada or Mexico may not come in plastic 20 oz six-packs. I have seen glass bottles in Mexico and smaller bottles in Canada. Ounces, pounds, liters, grams....depends on what your package lists!

Even when you "add food to database", MFP gives you the option to keep your food entry "private" or "Help us grow our food database! >> Yes, let other MyFitnessPal members use this food."

Just keep your food stuff private so it doesn't muddy up the waters for other users. Especially if the entry is "Mindy's hamburger - no top bun, 1/2 patty, no cheese, extra lettuce and mayo, no tomatoes"

I was going to stop working out because it takes like 30-60 minutes, like, every day. ugh.

I do so much cooking I have to enter a RECIPE almost every day to get the correct calories. I use the scanner when I can for ingredients. But I also keep in mind, nothing is going to be 100% accurate. Until I can afford to pay someone to do it for me, I will just overestimate, move more, eat less...

If it's worth it to you, you'll figure it out. Until then, good luck.

Same here. If you cook a new meal from scratch every day it does take some time to input everything. You can't scan an onion or a tomato, and you have to scroll though dozens of entries for Subway sandwiches with onion or tomato before you find the raw ingredient.

Some produce stickers now have tiny barcodes...

I don't understand why on earth it takes you that long to log your meals.

This is what I do, I type in the box say "white bread", look at the stuff that comes up and click on one that has the correct calories (this is found out by clicking on a white bread entry and then when the little blue box comes up to the right, clicking on "nutritional value"), that is then in my recent food list for next time. I also, couldn't give a hoot how many other entries for white bread there are, providing the one I tick has the correct amount of calories, that is all I am concerned about, sod the other entries, I only need the one and that goes with all other foods I enter.

It literally takes me 2mins to plan out my food for the next day, you are definitely doing something wrong. Try typing in whatever food you are looking for then add USDA at the end, this will bring up the USDA entry which is accurate.

    What does USDA stand for?

Are you new to MFP? I agree it can be a bit time consuming at first but shouldn't take you more than 10 min tops!! I would suggest you take the time to build your "meals" list and "my foods" list as this will save much time in the long run. Also when you log foods you have the option to choose " right , wrong or "I don't know".. If you know its wrong check the box so the admin can adjust or remove it. I think MFP is a valuable site and if we all do our part to correct mistakes it can only get better! Good luck at whatever you choose to do! :
