Weight Loss

My weight loss journey began when I weighed 221 pounds. I’m a 5’11 man and I was eating Fast food and take out daily. Not only was this making a dent in my bank account but my personal health deteriorated as well. I wanted to make a change in my lifestyle and wanted to go slow. I did not increase my workout intensity but I was just more conscious of what I was eating and tried to not eat terribly. In just 2 months I got down to 201 pounds and I didn’t believe it when I stepped on the scale. For the next month I just continued to do what I did before aka eating fast food and takeout some days and I maintained my weight of 200.5 for about a month. After that I decided that I wanted to actually lose weight and do it the right way. 3 weeks ago I started counting my calories and up until the past 8 days I had no real meal plan but I just tried to eat less than 2000. I weighed myself 8 days ago at 195 and since then I have been on a pretty solid diet watching my calories and my protein intake because I want to tone out with my weight loss. With that I’ve increased my workout intensity and frequency as well. I’ve eaten basically the same things for 8 days and it’s anywhere from 1200-1400 calories a day (not sure if that’s too low). I love the food I’m eating and I never really feel hungry. This app is exactly what I was looking for so I can total my exact calories up every day and see how it can add up in a week. I have never actively tried to lose weight until I hit 221 pounds so I’m still relatively new haha if there’s anything that I could improve on or change please let me know :) thank you!

For a 5'11 active man at 195 and below, 1200-1400 calories is too low. MFP expects men to eat a minimum of 1500, even when inactive.

    I'd lose fast at 1200-1400 as a 5'5", mid 120s pounds, 66 y/o woman.

Protect your health, keep your existing muscle: Eat more, lose slower - that would be my advice.

It sounds like after some initial trial and error, you've found your rhythm but I agree with Ann that your daily calories sound very low. You'll lose weight, yes, but I have a feeling you'll also crash and burn. Make sure you've entered all your stats/activity level/etc. correctly for MFP to give you the right amount of calories. And follow that. It works.

Good luck and congratulations on how far you've already come!!
