I just realized I never updated my run yesterday. It was a busy day at work and then we went over to my sister's house and I guess I just forgot. I ran 5 miles yesterday. It was clear and chilly and a good run. I wore capri length leggings and a t-shirt with my sleeves and gloves to start, but I took the sleeves and gloves off about halfway through. It's supposed to get hot again this weekend though so that may be the last time I wear them for a while.
@shanaber We have had lots of fires around here too. The wind and the low humidity are not a good combination. Yesterday there was a grass fire that came within about a mile from one of my sister's house. Luckily they got it under control quickly. Thanks for posting the Vissla pictures. They are so cute.

Thanks @Scott6255 . I get you with the wind. It's been like that here today. Toady, the high temp is going to be in the 30's so any exercise I do will be on the treadmill. Probably smart to do shorter outdoor runs to begin with.
@shanaber . I love the conversions. So cool and easy. Of course, I always just google it, but now I have a quick way to impress people. LOL

I actually got to run, yesterday AND today. Somewhat longer runs, 15+km each day, but in different directions, and I actually felt... good! This was kind of strange from how I've been feeling for months. I'll take it!7 -
Way to get out there and do some long runs @polskagirl01. I'm sure that was a welcome distraction!
Got outside today for 10 miles, but way too late. Was fixing plumbing issues under the kitchen sink, cleaning out the wife's car to sell, replacing taillight on the truck, so it was after noon when I finally got out. Took it slow, and ran on grass when I could. Probably ran about 1/2 the route on grass, so hoping that helps soften the blow to my shins.

I met some friends at 8:00 this morning for a group run. It was snowing when I left my house and the ground was getting white but it never amounted to anything. Basically all day it has snowed for 15-20 minutes, then the sun pops out for 15-20 minutes, shake and repeat. Temp was in the mid-30s but the blowing winds made it feel colder. I was supposed to run with a couple of friends at 7:00 am but one had a very bad bicycle wreck yesterday, broke her arm/shoulder in three places, as well as skinning up other body parts. So, obviously she is out of commission for a while (@quilteryoyo this is Sharon that you met when we ran Roan Mountain). My other friend has been having some foot pain so she decided to take a few rest days. I had not seen many of the 8:00 am group in quite a while so it was nice to talk to all of them while we were running.
Hope your foot improves soon @yirara.
Sorry about your neighbor passing @quilteryoyo. Is this the one who helped you with yard work some?

Oh no @Teresa502 . I'm so sorry to hear about Sharon's accident. I hope and pray she heals quickly. Our weather is really bi-polar today. I'm glad you were able to meet up with other friends for a run. The neighbor that passed is not the one who helped with the mowing. It was a man that was good friends with dad and I spent a lot of time at his house growing up and playing with his daughter. His first wife was like my second mom.4 -

I slept better and longer last night, but I was still really tired today, so after cleaning some of the house this morning, I spent a couple of hours on the couch. When I got up, I was still tired, but drug myself down to do a treadmill walk. As @Teresa502 said, our weather was crazy today. I had some hail added in for good measure.....at least I am calling it hail. It could have been balls of snow, but it made a noise when hitting the roof and house. Pictures below the spoiler.2 -

Usual for the most part, I always get a sore arm, sensitive to touch (with any injection). The biggest difference for me, with this 4th one was that I was really tired the next day, lightheaded, felt 'pressure' in the top of my head, like a heaviness. I do not know if it was a side effect, but it is what I felt that next day.

Last run I had trouble with my heart rate not getting up high enough to let me run uphill. Chugged along anyway for 4 miles on trails but it was really unpleasant. These bad runs are making me disheartened, I didn’t want to get up and run today. I just needed some time outdoors without worrying about anything. So we took a five mile walk. Planning to run tomorrow.
We actually did get in a tiny bit of running on our walk! Met a very nice cat which came trotting up and demanded to be petted. Then it started following us, so we ran for a while and it seemed to give up. Then, four miles later… here comes the cat! Oh no! It had a collar so we looked to see if it said anything about where the cat belonged. Collar said the cat’s name - Fig - and address - and “I AM NOT LOST!” Apparently Fig does this a lot! And in fact it turned out that Fig’s address was right across a big field from where she caught up to us. So we said bye and went home!8 -
I'm sorry your HR is acting up again @rheddmobile . I'm glad that you went out for a mental 5 mile walk. Love the cat story. I'm sure you were surprised to see it again, 4 miles later.1

Another week kind of got away from me work-wise. I didn't get a super long run in this weekend either, but at least was able to run both days. Today it was snowing, which I am pretty sure I said was not allowed to happen again. Fortunately not accumulating at all. Just cold and wet.

Yesterday was just kind of a lost day. I really have been trying to figure out my back pain and how to deal with it. It was/is SO different from anything I have experienced before with compression fracture or muscle pulls etc. It started when I was running on Wed and felt almost like a stitch in my side but on my right back rib cage below my shoulder. I kept running and will admit to ignoring it. However by the time I finished it sort of was telling me I better pay attention. It literally took my breath away when I laid down flat to do some situps. It was as tho I had sprained my entire diaphram across my back below my shoulders. So I tried a heating pad. I tried ice. Yesterday I tried Ibuprofin (which makes me depressed so I rarely use it) and then Tylonal 3. I sat around all day pretty much after a short run. I did finally get some sleep after the T3 and this morning it was OK but still not right and I did not feel comfortable pushing too much in my run. I guess like all things this will either get better or worse right?
@AlphaHowls your streak is so impressive. I cannot understand HOW you can get so many miles out of your shoes either. Mine give me shin splints after just 140 miles or so. You most be made of iron. Even with the 4th booster. LOL. I am not going to take the 4th one yet - just being careful with masking in public places and work. If I were to see a sharp rise again I may consider it but since it doesn't appear to be very effective against getting omicron I can wait.

As to my shoes, I let them speak. My shoes are only for running. I take them off as soon as I get home. I use two pairs to swap out every other day. Their language can either be shin, hip, knee, foot. Now, I have pain every day (I am 51 years old). It is just a matter of interpreting what is causing the new or worse pain.6 -

I ran 10 miles today. It wasn't a bad run, but it wasn't an easy run. It was 67°F when I started with 21 mph winds and 76°F with 22 mph winds at the end. I did remember sunscreen. I forgot my water bottle but luckily I was less than half a mile from home when I realized it so I was able to swing by the house and get it. I ended up drinking all of it too so I was glad I went back. Really the run wasn't bad, but I am tired of the wind. I can hear it howling outside right now. But it's only 14 mph, so I guess that's an improvement.

Great running @RunsOnEspresso and @katharmonic . The weather didn't listen to me either, but it did get nice and warm here this afternoon.
@SummerSkier That back pain does seem odd. Good idea not to push it too much. I hope it gets better, not worse.

My internet is out and won't be worked on until Thursday. So, I'll be limited to my phone, which I'm not good at using. My comments will be short until I get it back.
Today I did a mile walk on the driveway. I'm planning to start Matt Fitzgerald's beginning 10k plan tomorrow and really try to do all the running. I know there will be some I won't be able to do, but I'm going to make the effort to make the time. I'm wanting to run another 10k for my birthday in August. I'm thinking about the Run For the Light 10k on Bald Head Island North Carolina. Anyone ever run it?6 -
@Teresa502 - I am so sorry about your friend's cycling accident. I hope she heals well!
@AlphaHowls - like @SummerSkier I was surprised ate the mileage you get on your shoes. I can get around 6-800 miles on my shoes, sometimes more, with my minimal shoes. I don't run nearly the daily mileage you do though.
@polskagirl01 - so happy you are having a chance to get out and run some. Where you are running looks lovely!
@scott6255 - I hope your shins are ok after your long run. I find it difficult to run on grass unless it is Bermuda grass cut low, like on a golf course, because it looks like it should be smooth when it is lumpy underneath.
@rheddmobile - I hope your heart gets back with the program and keeps up on your next run! Glad you were able too get outdoors a bit and that is so funny about the cat.
@SummerSkier - we are holding off getting the 2nd booster (4th shot) too. DD said we should wait and if cases start to go up as in another wave get it then We also have a driving trip up to see her in Seattle in June so we will get it the week or so before we leave if not before. We have continued to mask in indoor public places like the grocery store and Target... actually I have been surprised at how many people are still masking.
I hope you can figure out your back pain soon. It almost sounds like a cracked or bruised rib. You haven't fallen or anything that could have hurt a rib have you?
@quilteryoyo - was your internet taken out by the storm? It seems like an awfully long time for them to get it fixed! I hope it doesn't actually take that long!

@quilteryoyo - it does look like snow - maybe it is what we used to call corn snow?
We are thankfully over the record breaking heat and back down to more reasonable temps for April. After several days over 100 with under 10% humidity it felt wonderful today to be under 70 and drizzling when I took Beaux out for a run. Hobbes was so tired from our run yesterday that I had to leave him home. Both days Beaux was feeling a bit crazy and wanting to go really fast and Hobbes tried to keep up yesterday but eventually was dragging behind me. Today Beaux there was no Hobbes governing Beaux's pace and he just wanted to go fast. Clearly my short legs can't go fast enough for him. He has shown me just how fast I can walk though 😂 He also doesn't stop much like Hobbes does which is actually nice. The one problem I do have with him is that he seems to want to lean into me throwing my gait off trying not to step on him or trip. I got to see a beautiful snowy egret and a bunch of huge vultures that were in a tree and soaring over us. They kind of freaked Beaux out. They looked big enough to just carry him away.
I took Beaux out by the river to see all the birds there (geese, ducks, killdeer, etc.) and we saw a bald eagle snag a fish and soar right over us. Of course I was too slow to get my phone out for a picture so I just stood and gaped at it! Beautiful!

We have agility tomorrow evening so I will take both pups out for a walk in the morning. Hopefully it can be more of a recovery and less of a race with Beaux.

Oof, 84 degrees today, not used to this yet! We had a frost warning two days ago. We were also under a wind warning with gusts supposedly up to 50 mph, so running into the wind felt like climbing a hill! Husband says, “Did you check the gravity forecast for today? It feels a little high!” It also didn’t help him that flowers are blooming and the smell of wisteria was everywhere and he has hay fever.
5k, supposed to be a tempo run, more of a “get it done” run. I tweaked my knee doing warm up leg swings of all things, so it was a little painful. Otherwise not a bad run. We heard an unfamiliar owl sound during our cool down walk, looked it up and it turned out to be a screech owl making a noise which is called a whinny, which they use to defend their territory! I knew we had screech owls in this area (used to have one at our rehab which couldn’t be released and was an Animal Ambassador) but had never heard this particular call before!6 -
@shanaber I don't think the storm took out my internet. It's been going out a lot for the last couple of weeks, but always came back. Not yesterday. I wish I had a viable alternative. Right now my Verizon JetPack seems to be working, but it wasn't yesterday. Our cell signal is also spotty here and I don't have 5G....I've asked. I'm glad Beaux is helping you to fulfill your walking potential. Love the pictures.

I met a couple of friends at 5 am for a 5 mile run this morning. Temp was cool but not cold at 42F. My Garmin 245 has some dead pixels on the screen. Apparently this is a common problem with this model because their support page has a form specifically for this problem. The form takes you directly to a UPS label so that you can send the watch back to them for replacement. I just hate giving my watch up for the time it will take to get it replaced. I’ve never heard of that 10K @quilteryoyo but what a great excuse to go to the beach! You should go for it!
@shanaber – I think Beaux and Hobbes needs sunglasses! I bet they enjoyed watching all the birds.
Glad you are still getting out there @rheddmobile even if your performance is not as it once was or making you happy. Hopefully, in time, things will get regulated and if not that you will adjust to doing what your body can do in that moment in time.

Just read through to get caught for the month. I'm happy to see so many new people and returning folks too! I never updated the end of March as I went camping with my parents and don't tend to be on electronics much when I am camping even if I do have signal. Then I just got busy and kept saying I'll do it tomorrow. Tomorrow finally came so here we are!
My plan has me a touch over 100 miles this month, but I like the nice round number of 100 miles. Like so many of you, our weather has been all over the place and early morning runs are quickly becoming very important as the afternoons are HOT and very sunny. Someone mentioned a sunburn earlier, and that made me think about this new sunscreen I found and LOVE!! Supergoop has a daily lotion sunscreen that is sweat/water resistant and SPF 50. I sunblock for every run if the sun is up and I usually use sport sunscreen for the sweat resistant feature but it is usually so thick and almost slimy, especially once you start sweating. This supergoop stuff is like a lotion, soaks in nicely, and actually has a pleasant but not overwhelming smell that isn't chemical smelling. Big fan and would highly recommend it to all my runner friends looking for some sun protection.
Pics under the spoiler from my camping excursion. My parents are transitioning to living full-time in their RV for a couple of years. This is the end of their time in TX and they will be moving further north to chase some cooler temps for several months, so I took a few days off to see them before they move on. We went to Guadalupe River state park. Beautiful park right on the river with plenty of places to go for a swim in the cool water! And not too far from our place in the hill country, so my family is going back for a day to hike and swim over the long easter weekend. My dad has taken up hiking and goes out every day, usually for a couple of miles at a time. He is really enjoying it and it is fun for me to have an activity to do with him.5 -
I'm new to MFP and this is my first challenge, but I need accountability. So I'm starting out as a beginner, not too high, 15 miles this month. Now to set up that ticker thingy.6

@martaindale - I have used Supergoop for a couple of years now. Love the daily sport sunscreen as well as the sport spray. I use the spray on my calves and ankles as well as the back of my hands and the lotion on my face, neck and shoulders before I run.
Love where you were camping! How long have your parents been RVing it? It sounds so intriguing to me. My husband isn't interested but it sounds like fun to me! It is great that your dad has taken up hiking. Does your mom go with him?

I took Hobbes and Beaux out for a 'recovery' walk today. It didn't feel as fast as the others have been and I actually thought Beaux was doing better until I saw our pace and of course Hobbes started dragging a bit on the way home. It was cool drizzly and lovely out when we went out - so much better than the 105F weather of just a couple of days ago! SO we just kept walking and ended up with 5.27 miles. Hobbes and I had agility class tonight and it was so much running. We are both wiped out now and of course Beaux is ready to play. Just one more day and Hobbes has us all to himself again... he will probably be bored then 😁4 -

I think it depends on the country. In the UK my handheld GPS had a broken rubber seal, and they kept on telling me it can't be repaired. Which is rubbish. Finally got a customer service rep, who told me that they could repair it, but now the device is so old that they stopped supporting it. But yeah, They did offer me a replacement for my Fenix 6s that I won at a certain time. For something a replacement would not have fixed.3
