@lmlmrn
I had hoped that @Lilylady3k would chime in with some ideas for what to do with some of that food, and she didn't disappoint : - )
@globalhiker also likely has some good ideas as to what to do with those beans.
Have fun at the fair!!4 -
My usual goal, 16-20AF days for the month. Diary style.
I had 21AF days for March, but it was a longer month.
My reason for drinking less is for weight loss.
Tuesday April 12 - AF - I really felt like having drinks, but I do a split shift on Wednesdays, so thought better of it. Wednesday has become one of my drinks days. Not mandatory, but planned. Having a designated drinks day helps me to hold on for a couple of days instead of just having drinks when I feel like it.
Wednesday April 13 - Drinks - Long workday, and it was very nice to have a few drinks. Planned AF for Thursday.
Rolling total: 8AF day out of 13 days.3 -
Sigh...Just lost a VERY long post...expletive reluctantly deleted. WTF is WRONG with this site anyway ??

Hello @forestdweller1 ,I had been thinking about you. I know it is so frustrating when we take the time to construct a post and it literally goes POOF.
Did kitty walk on the keyboard while you where typing?
Hang in there and don't give up. You can always write your post in another program such as WORD and then COPY/PASTE into this thread.

@ahoy_m8 I am so wanting to get to a play/musical this year. Your night out sounded wonderful to see J.C.S.
I will have to wait until my trip next week to Vegas for entertainment. I have tickets to attend Lady Gaga. That should be amazing.
On the deer/garden front YES they basically hold dance parties in my mulched garden areas every night. Chew down the sprouts trying to grow into plants and tear up all the work I put into my gardens.
I had to look up Yaupon suckers. OK, a variety of holly. Here is a well know fact, deer love love love holly! Who would think that a plant so spikey would lure them to eat it down to the ground? But they do. Oh and tulips....I had planted 98 tulip bulbs 5 years ago and they dug out of the ground(8 inches deep) or ate them as they grew. Can you say "venison stew"??5 -
AF last night
BUT we went out for chinese dinner and I devoured my entire large portion of chicken chop suey.
I had hopes to bring some home in a take out container, not all in my stomach.
That doesn't help me trying to get into a bathing suit in 6 days 🙄5 -
Oh guys, Wednesday night was BAD.
First of all, I had a long, tough, busy day at work, which had all of us in the office crawling home into the arms of a glass of wine.
But then I discovered I’m in the midst of falling out with a friend. It upset me so much that I was crying all evening and just kept drinking and drinking and drinking. I didn’t sleep a wink Wednesday night. Yesterday I went on a bit of an emotional shopping spree and bought a watch I didn’t need.
Hoping we can connect today and patch things up, but honestly it looks bleak.7 -

Hello, everyone. I haven't yet commented on this month's thread because nothing has changed for me as far as drinking goes. I have continued to moderate successfully and I feel pretty good about it, so I've just been reading everyone's posts and liking/hugging/etc..
We recently moved from a WFH arrangement to a hybrid one at work and that's got me a bit worried. Sadly, work is one of my biggest triggers, but somehow it doesn't bother me as much when I am at home. I am a bit nervous moving forward that I might start drinking more to cope. So far it hasn't happened, but I guess it's good to be aware of the possibility. I like to think it makes me better prepared.3 -
Hugs to @Womona. I'm hoping you can smooth it out. Assuming good intentions is a basic relationship skill I came to, sadly, later than I would have wished. It really came home to me when recently witnessing a needless falling out among longtime close friends because someone errantly assumed ill intent (which was totally off base). :flowerforyou:
@MissMay My brother says deer, despite being very social, have not evolved to the point where they can communicate, "This tastes bad." Hence, even a shrub deer do NOT like can be nibbled to the dirt by the time everyone has had a taste. Wish they would spit and paw the ground in front of the offending shrub or something to warn the others away.
Thought of you last night. I had an after dinner task that took a while. While doing it, I was thinking about how I "deserved" a glass of wine while doing my next task- paying my taxes. When I finally got to my desk and paid them, it took 2 seconds and I thought about how good you said it felt to disconnect your garden accomplishment from the "deserving" mind game. Thanks for sharing that thought because it helped me reinforce a desirable habit (avoid an undesirable mental habit) last night. I'll have that glass of wine tonight. Let's be honest, probably 2.5 -
It’s all good! Had a heartfelt conversation with my friend, it went so much better than I could have imagined, apologies and forgiveness, and I feel a thousand percent better. Thanks everyone for your support!!!!!7

Hello @Mouse_Potato it is good to see you in here.
It is always good to voice your under lying fears, get them out in the open to face them head on. Think about how much packing and organizing you will be able to accomplish without going past your moderate drinking threshold. If you need to cope a little with the stress that may be involved with your move, do micro sips as I believe @womona introduced us to.
Keep reading and keep coming in the chat with us.4 -
@ahoy_m8 you are more than welcome.
You never know what you might pick up from another persons experience.
Our drinking minds have a extremely strong will to convince us we need or deserve or should celebrate with alcohol to feel accomplished. Really when you think hard about it, that is just plain silly.
(Tax season....UGH)
Have a great weekend3 -

@womona I was so sad to read your first post yesterday, then happy to see this one this morning. I can only imagine those hours of dread until you both talked it out. Giant hugs to you.hope your feeling better.4 -

Hanging in there this month but burning through my days and not collecting many AF days. No special challenges for the rest of the month. Oh man now that I say that I completely forgot about next weekend ... French Quarter Fest in New Orleans. That will be challenging so I need to rack up some AF evenings prior. And it is a celebration of DH making a decision!
DH notified his manager Friday that he is vacationing in April starting 22nd and then taking a leave of absence in May without pay from the large technology company he works for. That gets him through the large annual & quarterly bonus, vesting of the majority of the stock, etc. He is tired of the grind and is where I was in 2018. She is like ... when you come back in June after the mental break then we'll see if there is a more interesting job you might be wanting ... they don't want to lose him. I think he will then just give his notice and retire. Hard to walk away from the big $ but then again it isn't worth it if you
1. had enough
2. have enough
3. have something else you want to do5 -
Our seasonal town is starting to come to life again. Last night was the opening at a great place we like to go. It seemed like everyone was there. My BF got a job there and when we arrived she asked if I wanted my special drink. I nodded and she returned with a beautiful stemmed glass of beverage for me.
As I was talking we some acquaintances the one girl gasped and said "OMG are you drinking today?" and she immediately clicked her glass to mine and toasted me. (Hmmmmm that never happened when I'd seen her before)
I said "CHEERS, yes Jess knows how to make my favorite drink" then I explained it was a mock mint julep and it is delightful.
FUNNY, her jaw dropped I could see she felt uncomfortable for assuming. I reassured her and her friend that it was ok and I am prefertly fine with coming out having fun without consuming loads of alcohol. In fact I said "lets go up and dance girls!" Breaking the ice like that with them was priceless.
AF with mock mint juleps and sore feet from dancing!8 -

I have told this story before, so some of you have heard it.
I have grown hot peppers in a long planter on my porch railing for maybe 15 years.
Last year the deer ate the hot peppers off of it!! I hoped that their *kitten* would burn when it came out. Grr.6 -

I actually had a really amazing day. It's been a long time coming. I hiked 10 miles with my loved one up in the mountains. The skies were a very deep, bright indigo blue. The temperature a perfect 70-75 F. We did run out of water the last 3 miles but we managed. We saw some elk which is expected, some bear paw marks on the trail (we have some black bear) and many large butterflies and blue birds along the trail. We then had our lunch after at 3pm at a local Thai restaurant and the food was very good. Then, I hit the local sporting goods store and found the clothes I was looking for.
Today was one of those days the universe and I were aligned. If only every day could be like today!
I did pick up a Kim Crawford sauvignon blanc and had half, the rest is in the fridge because I don't need it.8 -
@MissMay, you are an inspiration for many and reading into your message, I think you are a thousand percent right in that we can be social and have a wonderful time without any "drinks" whatsoever.5

Saturday April 16 - AF - Heading into many split shifts for the next several months. This will be good for saving up for Property taxes in June. Didn't have the rest of my Prosecco yesterday, by the time that I got home from a trail it just wasn't the right time of day for me to have it. I have already booked Thursday night off to see "Bromance", dance/acrobatics. I may have drinks that evening.

Happy Easter
Well one leg of the fair work is done. The Spring fair is no where near the scale of the 'state fair' when that opens in the fall. I think Blake Shelton will be preforming then? dunno will have to go look.
I did get to watch a few 'jumps' from the 'dock dogs' it is amazing how far out they can run, jump and grab the toy bouy about 7' in the air!
It has been super cold and not pleasant at the fair so the volume is low. But that is ok I still am having fun. So back again next Thur-Sunday.
I did realize that working triggers my craving alcohol. I did have 2.5 drinks last night nothing crazy and was in bed by 11pm.
@MissMay What a fun night even if it had a moment of awkwardness.
Thanks to everyone with the ideas on canned chicken. I really have a notebook I am writing all of these down.4 -
Nearly hit my targets this week. First “miss” since I started watching my intake, but also the first week we’ve socialised.
20.3 units (/20, so just over) and 2/2 AF days.
One thing I have realised over the weekend. He is using alcohol as an analgesic for some long standing injuries that he hasn’t properly rehabbed / that are becoming long-term issues. Not a great idea.4
