Wrapped up last week with a wee overage on the goals—currently there is a charity event that a lot of breweries around town participate in where you buy a $30 punch card and get one free pour at each participating brewery. We went to 2 on Monday but I managed to stick to only drinking 1/3 of each. It helps that beer is not my alcohol of choice, haha, so I’m happy just to get a taste and move on.
We are planning a brewery tour of some of the places that are a little further out with a bunch of friends this Saturday, but punch card and get one free pour at each participating brewery. We are planning a brewery tour of some of the places that are a little further out with a bunch of friends this Saturday, but I’ll be going prepared with a repurposed 4oz mousse glass (thanks Costco) so I should be able to stick to 2-3 total drinks (depending on ABV) even if we end up going to all 6 places that are currently on the plan.2 -
I am Dawn.
I hit 19AF days for April.
Sticking with my goal of 16-20 AF days per month for May
Diary style.
Tuesday May 10 - AF - Quite a long day, after the restaurant I went and did a big reset for Foster Grant and got home quite late. I really felt like a couple of drinks, but did the 6 minute thing (only once) and that worked. Feeling leaner because of it.
Wednesday May 11 - 2 1/2 drinks. I worked in the morning before working at the restaurant and after that drove out of town for a job. Late night, I didn't even try to resist having a couple.

Hey there.
Quick story. Yesterday I decided to sit on my deck in the sun and give my hands heat therapy. It was working and feeling great.
Husband asks if I want something cold out there to drink while on the deck. So I say yes, one of MY beers. He pours it in a glass and brings it out.
3 sips later I am not liking the world and getting a bad attitude. Then my scalp starts to crawl. G-darn it! I go inside and it was NOT one of my AF beers.
Here's the thing. I was getting pissy and angry for no good reason other than that beer was changing my mood into a sour one.
Not an experience I wanted at that moment. The day went down hill from there.

@MissMay sorry to hear about your hands, hope they are feeling better. Amazing that you felt yourself feeling differently, and getting crabby, with three sips of beer! But that’s a good thing, since it didn’t take two or three bottles to notice the same issue.
@globalhiker i love the pictures. Something so magical about a turquoise glacial lake.
I’ve only had one AF day this week, and for the past three days have made an intentional beeline to the bottle of wine after work, not even trying to wait the six minutes. Last night I even said to myself “I want to get good and lit”, and then I was like “whoa, really? Slow down girl!”
My upper back has been hurting all week despite all my efforts to relieve pain. I probably slept wrong. Yes, folks, I have been known to hurt myself sleeping on more than one occasion! That plus PMS means I want all the pasta, all the alcohol, and none of the exercise. Yet I know I need to do the exact opposite. Come on, brain, get with the program! Help me out here!5 -
Good Morning. I was previously on here under the name GiveHerGrace and this group helped me to cut back on my alcohol consumption in the past. My last long stretch without any alcohol was Christmas day 2021 through the end of January 2022.
On March 8th my life was turned upside down when my husband of 32 years took his own life after a very short battle with depression. He was my rock, my soul mate, my best friend and the love of my life. He was very well liked by everyone, an accomplished businessman, highly respected in our community, and had everything to live for. The guilt of not being able to save him and believing I was not enough to make him want to stay will remain with me forever.
I have now turned back to daily drinking (2-3 drinks) and need to get it under control so I can honor what we had rather than trying to numb the memories. I'm not even sure what a realistic goal is at this point, but any day I don't drink is better than what I have been doing for the last 2 months. I will try and post daily to at least be accountable (whether I am successful in abstaining or not.)
I'm sorry for the heavy post this morning, but this group has always seemed so supportive of each other. Thank you for listening.8 -
@Breathe57103 I am so sorry for your loss, I don't have the words that could erase your pain only know you are not alone. What do you need from us? What can we do to help you heal? This AF family is amazing and here for all the support you need.

@lmlmrn Thank you for the condolences. It is something that I never imagined I would go through and each day I am just trying to meet myself where I am. I know with time the raw grief will taper and I will develop a new normal. For now I just need to take one step at a time and get back to taking care of myself (less alcohol, better nutrition, and more exercise.)3

@Breathe57103
So very very sorry. A depression spiral is beyond what anyone can do to help with.
I experienced something years ago with the most upbeat person that I ever knew. The spiral ended the same way. This was not even close to what you are going through because it was a friend, not a life partner.
Terrible.4 -

Thank you @dawnbgethealthy. It was hard to imagine how he spiraled so quickly and ended up taking his life. He had never suffered from depression before. They had him on 3 different depression/anxiety meds and they were making it worse rather than better. The doctors were planning to start tapering them the next day, but he didn't give us a chance to help him.6 -
@Breathe57103 so, so sorry to hear about your husband. Cannot imagine how hard it has been for you. Glad you have come back to this thread for support!

At this point my goal is to just drink less than the daily drinking I have been doing for the last 2 months.

Dear @Breathe57103 my heartfelt condolences on the loss of your husband. You were always such a huge part of our LESS alcohol threads in the past under your other name @GiveHerGrace and of course we welcome you back with open arms.
However we can be supportive to you, we WILL. If you want to talk, listen or just lurk it is up to you.
I lost my brother(16 months older than me) 5 years ago. He took his own life while on what should have been a lovely 2 week vacation for him in the islands. I still have no closure to this date, on all the questions ~ WHY? WHY? WHY?
I am sure your husband loved you unconditionally and no matter how deep that love is, a persons own pain inside will always consume them. The inner thoughts of a person that takes their own life is they can't stand to see how their own issues are affecting their loved ones. And they try to lessen the pain by exiting our world.
Loving hugs💕

May 13 days accountability:
1A (1 stupid glass of Moon Haze Pale Ale)
12AF
Scored 2 /12 packs of non alcoholic Run Wid last night from a pub that a beer distributor dropped off samples for the owner.
The owner saw me walk in last night and said "I have something for you to take home, because NO ONE is going to want to order these".
My lucky day.
Thank you non alcoholic beer Gods 😉5 -

Almost at end of week two and I've been AF every other day. Not great. My work-life balance is very off.
Today I've been reminded life is very precious and taking care of our spirit and soul and body every day is necessary. As strong as we know we are or make ourselves out to be, we are delicate by design. What we have today can be taken away in an instant.
Off I go for a hill walk, say hi to my neighbors, get some sun and listen to the morning songs of the neighborhood birds. I'm tuning out of work and tuning into life.4 -

Friday May 13 - AF - I hadn't realized that it was Friday the 13th until now lol. I was exhausted, and felt like chilling out with a couple of drinks, but didn't because of the extra day of drinks this week. I might have drinks on Saturday. Going away next weekend for 3 days to the Blossom Festival in another town (Creston BC) but do not plan to have any drinks while there.

I would like to join the group. I am trying to cut back to one or two drinks a day on weekdays for now. Hoping to get to one to two a week at some point.3

@mimikatr welcome to the thread!
Yesterday we went to the credit union to start the paperwork in motion for a home equity loan...sorry ranting but the banking industry who has to satisfy the governments requirements...just too much. If anyone works in the industry I am sorry if I offend. But sheesh we have excellent credit, own the home outright, along with other real estate (all can be found through public record search) and you still want our tax returns originals and all pages for past two years, copies of our ID's etc. Mind you we have done business with this company for 15+ years, have multiple accounts and husbands business account is with them. Still shaking my head knowing they will take 2-3 weeks to approve.
Ok so what did we do, well Friday out for late lunch/early dinner and two beers. I feel good about my progress compared to a year ago. Last year at this time I struggled to keep the drinks to just a few days a week, now it does not feel like such a big deal. I never could before just drink two and be satisfied, now I can even walk away with liquid in the glass. Progress5 -
1st week of May - 3AF and 4A
2nd week of May- 3AF and 4A but stayed in control!5 -
@MissMay "Why Why Why" is one of my daily mantras right now. Thank you for sharing the story of your brother and for the insights you shared on suicide. I was very forthcoming in my husband's obituary regarding his manner of death hoping that others who are struggling will reach out for help.
I implore everyone reading here to please reach out if you need help and to check on your people.
I went golfing with my son this afternoon. This is something my husband and I did together a couple times a week. I am having difficulty finding the joy in it right now. I hope some day I can love it again.
At this point my goal is to just drink less than the daily drinking I have been doing for the last 2 months.

Hello everyone. I'm a newbie. Trying to get some weight off and sabotaging myself with alcohol. This looks like a helpful group. Hope to get to know some of you as we go along.3

Welcome @ajanet1007. This is a great group.

My black lilies coming up : - )
And a strawberry plant coming to life in the middle of the cilantro box plus weeds lol. Lots to do.
Peas popped up : - ) No photo, I will let them get bigger. Expecting some other things to emerge this week, and will put in some of my bedding plants. No peppers or tomatoes until I get back from my trip on the long weekend, a bit too early yet.5 -

Welcome we are so glad to have you joining us for support to have LESS alcohol in your life. Everyone here is going with different goals and strategies that fit and work best for their own progress.
Don't be intimidated, we all have to make this work for ourselves. Start slow with tiny goals you know you can follow through with. Accomplishing one tiny goal encourages you to keep going. Then you can add stronger goals either daily, weekly or monthly.

Great photos @dawnbgethealthy. And @lmlmrn I feel your pain with having to deal with that. Not something you need at this stage of trying move on to the next step in life.
AF Sat and Sunday this weekend. SO MUCH TO DO, NO TIME TO HAVE A FUZZY - CONFUSED HEAD OR LACK OF ENERGY.
Mondays can be awesome. They set the mood for the entire week.3 -
Week 2 down - 11 drinks total for the week. Can I blame the uptick on the really hot weather? I want to but I have to be honest.
I say yes to a "good mood" week....state of mind is everything. When I am happy, I treat myself well.
Off to enjoy a good run in the early morning darkness before the temps hit 101. A little AC/DC and Kid Rock tunes to go with that to wake me up.
Good week to you all -4 -
