Week 3: finished at 10 drinks. At least one less than last week. I could've lost close to a lb. of fat had I decided to forgo the drinks altogether.
Anyway, Happy Monday - start of a fresh new week - and a short one if you consider the holiday weekend coming up ......4 -

I am drinking less to lose weight. Diet and exercise were not budging the scale for me until November 2018 when I began to drink less. Drinking derails weight loss.

I haven't had a chance to look at all my photos yet. I am planting all of this week after work : - )
So this is the drive down toward Creston, I took these on Friday just past 3pm.
@globalhiker This is your only route up. This lake, Moyie Lake, begins about 20 minutes after the border crossing at Eastport. You will pass through Yahk 10 minutes before that lol. Not a whole lot else before Cranbrook past Yahk, 1 gas station, one pub. A few very good pullouts.
And this is what I have planned for this week until Sunday. Peppers will have to wait until then, and onion sets go around them. The other stuff that has been hardening off on my porch can start to slowly go in. Lots of digging and soil enhancement in each spot. I got 6 things in today.
I will look at my Blossom Festival photos with coffee in the morning : - )

Sunday night I showed solidarity with my pregnant daughter since the guys were drinking scotch which doesn't interest me ... I volunteered to be the designated driver.
This evening my option was bourbon & Diet Coke which I passed on since I really don't think it goes well with eggplant parmesan. There is no wine in the house and neither DH or I bought it when we went to the grocery store this afternoon.
This next weekend will be a challenge. Heading to visit my mom and check on our camp for a long weekend with my sister. DH plans to stay home. She is already planning all the drinks she wants to bring ... I'm planning turkey & Swiss with buffalo cream cheese on sun-dried tomato flour tortilla ... pinwheels for snacks and salads for lunch. I think we are on opposite ends with our "what groceries to bring".

Other than a party on Saturday night, I stuck to one glass of wine. Taking micro sips helps me not have that half a glass more!
Hope everyone has a good week.4 -
Oh my I realized I missed posting and responding eek!!!
Good news, I reached out and actually reached a plumber when knew back 6-7 years ago?? Thought he had moved back to the eastern part of the state. Well he had but now is back in my neck of the woods. he came over today to talk about our bathroom redo's. I love this man. He is going to take me to the contractor showroom (haha) to get fixtures and the blah blah stuff. Then just give him a few days notice when the demo (thats me) gets done and he will be there to put the bathrooms back together. And he will put the kitchen sink in as well as run the water line to where the refrig will sit. If all goes well we may have 90% of the remodel done by fall. The I can do the touch up on the wall over the winter early spring months.
As soon as I have some pictures I will share. Pinky shake.
Good news we went out for lunch/dinner both Sat and Sun and I kept to my 2 beers. Now with the remodel moving forward and will have a home equity payment at some point...we decided on weekends we could only have one outing, instead of 2-4.
Hugs everyone

Hi, all. Alone at home this week. Quiet week following the storm of activity this month. It feels so much easier to stay on an even keel when puttering around on my own. Walked to a nearby restaurant to meet up with a friend. I have avoided night time activities with this long time friend because the pattern is she drinks too much then things turn un-fun. I thought we would be meeting for coffee but it turned into dinner. She seemed so relieved when I ordered tea and she ordered it as well. Seems she is doing weeknight AF these days as well. We had a perfectly lovely time without the drinks. Cheers to that!
Alas, the case with another friend is not so easy. A group of her friends (she has no family) did an intervention with her several years ago, and she (with intense reluctance) went to rehab for alcohol abuse. I sincerely hope none of you are roped into a situation like that. It was pretty awful. It took away a whole weekend where I had already made obligations to other family members who I let down, and I chipped in $600 I didn't plan to spend to pay for the professional interventionist, her flights, etc. Honestly, we hadn't been close for several years at that point, so I hadn't witnessed any of the dangerous behaviors, but the others pulled me in because that's what you do for an intervention, I guess. Saw her at a reception last week with a glass of wine in her hand. She is in the midst of lots of health issues, so alcohol can't be helpful. I hope she is able to take care of herself. None of the friend group feels any responsibility to intervene again. We did once and it's up to her to take care of herself at this point.7 -
@ahoy_m8 What a lot for you to carry too. But congrats to both you and friend #1.
So more progress on the remodel front. Took my plumbers advice and traveled north of our home to look at granite. So glad I did, gal there had an estimate for me in about 10 min. I got to see the slabs, she said all they need is about 2 weeks notice and they install the counter tops and sink. Customizing anything on the spot that may need adjusting.
Got a call from the bank and we sign the home equity loan tomorrow so look out! I see a bathroom demo in my near future.5 -
It was a total indulgence day baking cookies for DH and then eating a ton of them myself. My sister came over for dinner ... hence the wine. Terrible excuse but she is an elementary teacher and the situation mass shooting at Uvalde elementary school really got to all 3 of us.
5/24 - 3 wine

So upsetting about these elementary school shootings. Innocent children and teachers. So distressing and sad. Up 50%.
People must be scared to send their kids to school.

@Lilylady3k I can relate. DD#1 teaches 6th grade math and we are rattled, too. We're having dinner tonight.
Deep down I'm an emotional eater, and that really bubbles to the surface at leavings, e.g. after a fun family holiday when everyone leaves, or recently, when DH and DD#3 left for Europe. Knowing this about myself, I baked lots of stuff I consider treats that I can make fit calorically-- fresh bread for breakfasts, my favorite lemon almond cake, homemade pasta. So how did that work? Great. Until the next day when I remembered Sprinkles cupcakes in the freezer. Ate one. Not very satisfying. Ate another. Then looked up how many calories that was. OMG. 1000 calories. Now remembering, this is why I don't eat Sprinkles cupcakes. It put me in a small surplus for the week last week so I'm in a small deficit this week. Also added a few miles by walking instead of driving for errands to the post office and library. Sigh. Water under the bridge. I'll make it balance out.5 -
@MissMay, you are my inspiration!
@dawnbgethealthy, when I arrive over there, will bring the sunshine with me.....
@lmlmrn, I look forward to seeing your post-remodel photos. I love home improvement! So much easier than self-improvement, isn't it??
Goal for today is AF and calorie restriction 24 hrs. Easy-peasy since I have a fridge loaded with cut up watermelon......and NO snacks or wine in the house....!

Your pictures are magical and glad to hear there's been rain and snow (fewer fires hopefully).
Yes, it is a very supportive group. I am on a monthly one also. I used to do the 10 days one, but it took me too long each morning so I gave that up. 100 days really does give a nice picture.
It will be sunny here for sure when you arrive. Cranbrook is said to be the sunniest place in Canada (or in BC?)
Kimberley might be cloudy, but it is way up a mountain. It will be beautiful nevertheless.
So excited! 2 weeks from today : - )3 -

Sad news my cabinet installer guy just bailed on me. Guess an old injury has flared up. Last time it happened he said took 6 months to heal.
So after yesterday, the signing of the loan papers. I still have to give the final amount I want to start paying on June 15th...Seriously the funds will be in my account May 31 and 1st payment is due 15 days later! Either $100 or 1% of balance due whichever is smaller.
So anyway I spent the morning pricing everything I can think of for this remodel right down to the grout, tape and paint. But no labor prices yet, these totals will determine how much of the approved amount do we really want to finance.
I did not stay AF yesterday after the signing we went out for food and I drank my 2 beers, I did not even finish the 2nd one.
We are having family over on Saturday and I am thankful that none of my family expect s to have wine or any other alcohol with our meal. I have 1 brother who does not drink period. He is not against it but chooses not to drink.
17 AF out of 26 So this month will be a bit higher in A days then usual. Oh well I will call myself now NOT a daily drinker. Last September while I worked at the fair I did nip during the week. But since last January 2021 I have made the effort to NOT be that daily drinker. It is now easier but still challenging.5 -
@lmlmrn sorry to hear your cabinet guy hurt himself and is now out! Do you have a backup or someone he could sub it out to?
Very inspiring, your post. I’m all proud of myself for not reaching for that extra 1/2 to 1 glass of wine beyond my planned one glass, but now I have to start weaning myself off having a drink every night. I really want to get back to AF during the week, but I kind of also hate the thought of not having that nice glass of wine waiting for me! So torn! But, my weight will go down if I cut back, so there is that.
Wine night at work, and a co-worker is leaving so we also had mimosas in the morning with some yummy bagels and lox. Nothing like brunch during the workday!!!3 -
Checking in!
@lmlmrn so sorry to hear about your cabinet guy. Getting anyone to the house these days to perform work is INSANE. Or even to get them to call you back with a simple yes or no.
I have now over lapped and have THREE plumbers 🪠🚽🚿scheduled to come. May the best man win who shows up first and gets the golden Willy Wonka ticket. I even promised the one plumber to make his favorite meal to take home! Desperate times folks.
So at dinner time last night at home I decided I wanted to have a glass of bubbles(prosseco)
Veal parm was delish. Stated to sio the prosseco WHICH I HAVE ALWAYS LOVED...and I just was not feeling it. Had 3 or 4 sips and dumped the rest down the drain.
So with that I am for May accountability:
3 A days( four standard drinks)
23 AF days
BONUS husband and I have now finally reached clearing out OVER
1/2 of our possessions that we owned
The items you never knew you did not need until it came to getting rid of things.

@MissMay wow. Great job downsizing. I tip my hat to you. I know I need to start now, but it's hard to know where to start with other people's stuff. Still laughing about @Lilylady3k being the safe-keeper of the boy scout vest that belonged to her BIL, was it? Sheesh.
@lmlmrn bummer about the cabinet guy. Fewer people going into trades (so the tradesmen tell me) and they are getting old. My landscapper (who I LOVED) had retirement come faster than expected when his partner was badly injured. You said DH was in the wood finishes business? Does he know people who know people?
Cabinet story: I forever wanted new cabinets at my lake cabana. Water intrusion and a new roof was the tipping point for a bunch of updating. (Adios ugly popcorn ceiling!) Had 3 guys come out to bid cabinets. It's 8 linear feet of cabinets. I like how they function so I just wanted new doors. Bids ranged $3-10k, and none of them were exactly what I wanted. After thinking about it a long time, I decided I could maybe do this myself. DH said that was a terrible idea. I had to agree with him on all his points, but I presented it as a $300 hedge against a $3-10k investment. It took me all summer and they actually turned out great It was a gamble because I had never done anything like that and had to learn a lot about hinges.
Not suggesting you want to do it yourself, but if you like how the existing cabinets function (and their placement), changing the fronts can create a new look with less construction. I augmented the cabinet frames to go from inset doors with old style gothic hinges to overlay minimal reveal. Anywhoo... hope you find the solution you love.
Happy Friday. This was my first week all month AF M-Th4 -

I went to emerg/Urgent care right after work Thursday.
Wednesday night while I was digging up the garden a big wind came up and threw dirt into both of my eyes. I got it out of the left eye, but the right eye just felt like it was scraping inside. I can't believe that I continued to serve customers as my eye swelled and hurt so bad. I work alone though.
The doc put dye in my eye and couldn't find any foreign bodies, but said that there was obvious contusion. She flushed it out and then put anesthetic in it. The freezing lasted about a half an hour. She put me on 5 days of antibiotic drops to put in 4 times a day. I started them yesterday, 3 doses. I am not going to go to work today. I did sleep a bit, but when I woke up my eye wouldn't open. There was grit at the corners. So there was stuff still in the eye even though the doc couldn't find it. It looks like metal or glass!!!
My eye booger...
Maybe it was imbedded in the upper lid so that the doc couldn't see it and the flush didn't get it out. The antibiotic might have loosened it?
4 -
omg, Dawn, that looks terrible! I hope all the foreign bodies are out and things feel better soon!2
-
Planning an indulgent night.
I didn't go to work today. I have never had a sick day in all of my working life!!
Tucking into the St. Louis Blues/Colorado Avalanche crucial play-off game.
So great that my sewed shut eye opened up over the day. The antibiotic drops I feel are really helping, plus warm compresses as suggested. The grit this morning that I scooped out I really feel was what was continuing to abrade my eye. I would have gone to work, but my boss said that she would cover my shift. I had some Foster Grant jobs to do, same result there, take it easy and heal.
Lol, will I have to wear my ski goggles in the yard??
It was very windy today and I was feeling paranoid about my delicate eye with the dust swirling about.
Took it easy and did some extra indoor workouts for my planned Ribs binge.
Totally planning on digging the 3-6X3 beds for peppers and tomatoes and onions over the next two days, and planting. I will turn everything and add in extra stuff. The tomato garden is just 2 feet, the 2 pepper/onion gardens are 3 feet deep.
Time to cut the grass again too, but priorities priorities.
I will watch at least one of the periods from my tub with my smokes and a drink : - )
I have been chided by a few people to leave the dandelions for the bees.
I have been overseeding my yards for years to avoid dandelions, but the neighbours (rental properties) have gazillions of them that blow into my yard. So, I have some.
I heard a great radio program about all of the anti-inflammatory properties. Maybe tomorrow I will cut a bunch and make a tincture or a tea. Leaves, stems, flowers...all good. Might as well get some before they turn to white and seeds which the bees aren't interested in.
Of course I need the bees. Gosh.
This batch looks good. I remember a lady that I knew 40 years ago who always put the stems into a salad or sauteed them. Hmm. (lightbulb moment)
Considering that I was away all last weekend and then chomped out my crown Monday night while chewing gum requiring it to be cemented back in on Tuesday, and then the dirt in my eyes Wednesday night, visit to Urgent care on Thursday and weird foil/glass/silica sand dust getting lodged....I am feeling okay about losing a day's pay today. After all, our holiday in Canada was Monday so I got extra pay. (Queen Victoria Day?)
Even though I didn't accomplish a whole lot today, it was lovely to just lightly putter around, clean a few things etc.
I will take photos when I plant my peppers and tomatoes : - )
Garlic is up sooooo beautifully!!
And peas are looking healthy : - )
Strawberry bed is in flower:
And bearded Irises are popping...
Life is good even though I had a weird week.
