I had fun watching hummingbirds at the sugar water feeders on our windows. It is dark now and the birds are tucked away for the night.1

Happy Mother's Day to all who celebrate! I was liturgist at church today but my role got expanded when our pastor's husband came home sick from work on Friday and tested positive for Covid. She tested negative but since we have a mostly older congregation decided not to come to church but do a video recording of her sermon. So I ended up doing a lot more of the service. Good thing I can read out loud.
Everyone take care, Sue in WA5 -

9: What values are important to you? Find ways to use them today. Kindness, honesty, determination, humor.
Joe left at the crack of ridiculous to go to Freddie’s, and brought me back a beautiful bunch of flowers, all in my favorite colors, pink, blue, lavender and purple. Feel pretty damlucky.
Thunderstorm, hail, fog, mist, sunshine, blue skies with glory of heaven clouds, pelting rain, wind, all on the way to church this morning. Gotta love the weather!
Karen hope there was lots of laughter at that wild mother’s day brunch Loved the bar mitzvah story.
Ginny thanks for the Naot pics, they’re lovely. Have only bought one pair of dress shoes since I retired, wore out my navy pair and I wanted for church. Then for two years livestreamed from home instead .
Machka thanks for the pic, now I understand.
Heather wow, just wow. One of the benefits of not liking fish is I don’t envy that Nobu spread. The memories you’re both giving your son, DIL and grands are priceless. Thank you so much for sharing them with us.
Lisa what kind of heat shielding fabric do you use in your hot pads? the design and the bookshelf quilt. Joe buys perhaps a half dozen paperbacks a week, reads, then donates ‘em. I check out books from the library and re-read favorites from our 4 floor to ceiling bookshelves. Like Tracey’s daughter I love the feel (and smell) of physical books.
Julie good to see you popping in and enjoying skimming! Well done on the rough pages, integration and… cleaning.
Allie little by little will get the job done.
Betsy 11.4 miles, WOW!
Carla, great smiles.
Rita my heart melted too.
Tracey what did you do on your “whatever you want” day?
Lanette so with you what you said about Robin Williams.
Annie I too squander too many calories on sweets, but do better when I up the protein intake before…
Barbie love your perfect day.
Sue your service today sounded like ours. Our pastor is out of town visiting newborn grandson, our factotum is mid move, our pianist is recovering from cataract surgery, our backup organist was out of town… Pastor’s wife preached and led the service. All chanting and singing was done a capella. A refreshing experience.
Whoops, Joe’s up, time for shift change.
Lighter, lovelies!

Good morning-quick checkin
Machka-thanks for enlarging picture for me. I agree-I am not overly fond of that layout.
RvRita-that rose story is too stinking cute! What an impression you made.
@bananasandoranges -good to hear from you. Keep up progress on writing!
Glad so many seem to have had a good mother's day. Had good visit with son and daughter-in-law. He prepared very nice filet and risotto with garlic and a salad.
Best part of day I discovered this am. My granddaughter is able to text through her iPad. She has not done it much at all with me. This morning, once focus went off, a text from her came through tell me she loves me! She is 8 and precious to me. She sent it at 10:30 pm my time (7:30 pm for them).
Expecting warm and sunny today! Off to get ready for work.
Take care all,

Yesterday was gorgeously sunny. Today not so much. I'm getting ready for Monday Painters after lunch. I started a painting last session, so hoping to finish it today.
Good to see my American pals had a fine Mother's Day.

Hello, my dears,
Lanette - I loved watching Robin Williams. There are very few actors that I feel connected to, but he was one of them. I loved his work so much that I couldn't bring myself to watch the ones where he was the villain. Glad you got the help you needed with the lights, etc!
Julie - Good to see you posting!
RVRita - Loved the rose and the giver. What a sweet thing to do!
Karen - Good to see you enjoying yourself, dear heart.
Heather - I'm more than happy to live vicariously through you on your cruises... I look forward to tons of pictures!
Rebecca - I hate to see you resigned to your youngest's lack of communication, but I hated it when you were grieving over it even more. I'm so sorry. My husband told me once that once age 16 rolls around, children give you permission to parent. When they don't want it, you can't force it.
Just a question...Is anyone else using the new "Save Draft" button just below the box you post in? It keeps your entire post, and even if you go to another page or leave MFP entirely, it will be waiting for you on your return. I try to push that button after every paragraph and have yet to lose a post since I started using it. Note - this may well be on the website and not on the phone--I don't use the mobile app for posting.
My daughter and son both called yesterday, which I appreciated very much, and Corey cooked me dinner - baked, stuffed mushrooms. He knows they're my favorite of the things he makes. Insanely good.
I mailed Kelsey a Mother's Day card and made her cry. She's the first person to call me "Mom." I am ever grateful for my little family's love and respect. It makes the years before I met them seem worth the price for every ounce of pain.
Third cup of decaf tea uploading now... Weighed myself this morning and I'm 2 pounds lighter than I was May 1. Yay!
Just a few tea memes below.

I got calls from Jack's youngest son and family and my two sons. Jack's daughter texted me at 10Pm last night. I didn't hear from Jack's oldest son but I didn't expect to hear. Feeling fortunate to have heard from 4 out of the 5.
Lisawhat does Corey put in his stuffed mushrooms. I love stuffed mushrooms.
Happy Monday to All,

Good morning ladies!
I dropped my car off for an oil change, so now I'm feeling virtuous even though I'm not actually doing the work. 😊
I miss my yoga mornings. It's just a video, but the teacher says nice things to me, and makes me happy. Maybe I can start again next Monday.
I need to come up with a plan to learn the dreaded lunge. It starts with a stationary shallow lunge, holding on to something. But where can I do that? Hmm. Maybe the bathroom sink? Must be careful not to reinjure myself.
Have a great day!

where it's cold but the sun is shining! Yay!1 -
Betsy - Corey never works to a recipe, and he couldn't tell me how much of anything he puts in it, but the basic ingredients are here:Stuffed Mushrooms
Whole fresh mushrooms, brown or white mushrooms (brown are better), 8 oz, washed gently and stems removed.
Softened cream cheese - half an 8 oz brick, or more if you're making a lot. (This can be the neufchatel cheese, which is quite a bit lower in calories and tastes exactly the same. The fat-free cream cheese does not work well, unfortunately.)
Garlic powder to taste
Onion powder to taste
Black pepper to taste
Bacon bits chopped fine (If you decide to skip the bacon, add a dash of kosher salt.)
Minced chives (unless you're making them for me, in which case forget them)
Mix the cream cheese and spices and bacon together. Taste the mix and adjust as necessary for your taste. Spoon mixture into mushroom caps, piled up about an inch above the edges of the caps. Place on a baking sheet, and bake at 350 degrees until the cheese mixture is brown and delicious... Start checking at 20 minutes--the time will have to do with how large the mushroom caps are, so it could be as long as 30 minutes.
The electric folks are here to clean up their mess from last Thursday... That is an industrial wood chipper, and it spits the ground wood directly into the back of the truck. It is just as loud as you think.

Annie - No offense meant, but why? You are doing a lot of different, wonderful exercises that don't hurt you, why do you want to do something that does? Is there something you do in your daily life where you have to use lunges? I'm absolutely not saying you shouldn't exercise, but I am very much averse to doing exercise that hurts our bodies. I'm not talking about the soreness that well-used muscles feel, I'm talking about the overuse of a joint that isn't up to the use. I used that kind of self-destruction as my excuse for a lot of years, because I would start and then hurt myself and quit.
There may well be a reason for you to do them that you haven't expressed, and if so, my apologies. Just thought I'd ask.
Love,
Lisa in AR2 -
Annie - Why do you feel you have to do lunges? I never do lunges. I am sure you can be very fit without ever doing a single lunge. You can do all kinds of exercises without hurting your knees, including yoga. Just miss ones out that stress the knee. You can exercise perfectly well in a chair. Stop the lunges!

Went for my run this morning, then rowed. Done another rowing session this afternoon.
I am proud of myself for cutting and pasting and editing my new book, WHERE AM I? Should be out soonish! I find this bit very difficult and scary, so just getting to the page is a major achievement.3 -

Hi Gals,
My health care provider has approved counseling and amazingly approved 12 months of counseling as many visits as my counselor suggests, and the option to renew at the end of the 12-month period. I think they must be -finally- taking mental health seriously. I could not be more pleased.
They also have suggested a physical, and because I have not had one since I turned 60 it is considered preventive – also covered fully by insurance…. I am winning the weird USA insurance lottery! I have to go in this morning to have a blood draw for all the things they want to check and then in tomorrow for the actual physical.
After the lab visit and breakfast, I am taking mom home. It has been a good visit, not much serious talk or working on what comes next in the family, I knew when I picked her up, we had to just work on a full break, and totally making the time all about her. I have never seen her look so tired and so frail. She got 10-12 hours of sleep each night and 3 healthy full meals each day. 4 ½ days later and she is looking better. Walking better, the bags under her eyes are lessened. I need to make this happen more, I had been doing a 2-day visit every 6 weeks, I think I need to do 4 days every 4 weeks. A bit of a challenge for me and for the business – as she takes up a lot of time. But she’ll be gone soon enough I know I will not look back and be sorry I was able to do this. And I will be sending home with her some leftovers. She can and does cook for herself but is so caught up in the horror of the mess my brother has made she just skips meals or eats chocolate as she is depressed by the mess.
I am not my mother’s daughter – I will get mental health help she refers to it as my stupid psychobabble.
I have read everyones posts and wish you all well - sorry I am not commenting on everyone, just don’t have as much energy and time as I wish I did.
Sending love to all.

Realized this morning that today is the last day of exercise until Sunday...wawa. I really, really need to convince myself to do yoga at night since it isn't strenuous. Now to convince my body

We had a great turn out for our fund rasier last Saturday. Over 53 motorcycle riders. It was so windy and my neck and back can still feel it. But glad it went well and DH and I raised a fair amount and happy about that.
Allie--glad to hear Miles is okay and I pray you are not stiff and sore for long.
Betsy and Rori--Hugs and prayers.
Annie--Sorry to hear about your and DD not talking. Our one daughter has not talked to us in just over 3 1/2 years. She will not let us see or talk to the DGC. It hurts but nothing we can do. Hugs
Pip--Sending hugs and prayers for all of you.
Terri--Beautiful cards. Thanks for sharing.
Karen--No I did not see that picture, thanks for sharing. Woke up this morning at 430 and already 72. Going for cold to hot no in between. Turned the AC on before I came to work as going to be hot all week. Gotta love Nebraska where you can have winter and summer in the same week. And can't forget the wind that never seems to stop.
I feel bad I can not remember her name, but has anyone heard anything from the lady that worked in the family shop with her husband and sister in law? Been thinking about her..
Kim--Glad your are taking care of what you need to do for you. I think you are doing great by your mom and it does make a positive for her, even if she will not admit it.
Had a nice mother's day, several of the DH's kids texted me and when we got home my DS had been there and left me a beautiful cross stainglass windchime. So it was a good day all the way around. Church message was just what I needed to hear.

Lisa - How funny we both said the same thing to Annie at the same moment!
Kim - Glad your mum's visit passed off without drama. And so happy for your mental health win. Hope it doesn't take forever to get organised. You are a daughter beyond price.

KIM ~ So glad your insurance provider is giving you the benefits you deserve. I am so sorry to hear about your mom's failing health due to all the mess your brother created. Is he still in the home?
VICKI ~ Sounds like you had a great weekend.
ANNIE ~ I had to look up "lunge" to see what you were talking about. I have a replaced knee and another knee that needs to be replaced, but, I think I could do a lunge. Just not all the way down to the floor.
Our son and daughter in law provided us with a very nice Mother's Day dinner Saturday evening. He cooked mouth watering steaks on the grill.

Why do I need to do lunges? Very good question. On one side is the fact that my knee is slightly crooked, which no amount of exercise will fix. So maybe I should just give it up.
On the other hand, I just want my whole knee to be stronger. If this is a weakness, I should try to work on it, no?
I think I can learn to do lunges if I start off gently enough. Lunges and squats make up a lot of the home bodyweight leg exercises. I want to give lunges one more try before I avoid them altogether. Because I feel challenged.
But thanks for asking. I'm adjusting my attitude from determination to just exploring. So that's already better.

Well I had all sorts of grandeous ideas for myself today..but im just tired ..so it wont be today.. took Alfie and we went and got Homer out.. and I got my mail.. will put fresh sheets on the bed and hopefully get my vacuumed comforters down to the storage room.. but i feel i need a nap.1

Annie - I used to have the 'worst knee in the world' and have strengthened it hugely without lunges, or squats. The exercises my physio and the hospital gave me contained neither. I could not even get jn a car seat without manually lifting my knee. Now it functions perfectly for everyday life, as long as I don't overstress or twist it.
Stand on one leg and raise and lower yourself a bit. I also do small side lifts with the other leg at the same time and raise 2kg weights sideways with my arms. 15
Clamshells. These were the first ones I was given by the physio. Vital. 20
Side leg raises lying down. 20 alternate days.
Bridges. 4 And one leg mini bridges. I do 40 on each leg.
I do these every day without fail along with all my other exercises. (Rowing, cycling, cross-trainer, press ups, yoga, occasional runs) They have saved my life.

just got home in time to pick up the daycare girl- The weekend was pretty much nothing but drama- yesterday being the worst.
On page 16 so will take a bit to catch up.
VERY glad I have Zumba tonight- need to get away from the ongoing drama.

If lunges are a weakness you should try to work on it?
No.
Just because certain exercises exist doesn't mean we should do them.
Exercises like lunges need to be done so carefully in order not to do damage. I tend to avoid them for that reason. I also do modified squats rather than traditional ones to avoid hurting my knees.
Have you seen a sports doctor or physiotherapist about your knee?
Where does your knee hurt?
What triggered the pain?
